Shillien Knight-Pointless to continue?

General Discussion Started Last reply 13 posts
With all honesty is there any point for me to continue leveling my shillien knight? I am 45 atm and feel as if I have no viable features to offer solo or group play. Yes I have a few "group" tank skills but how often can a group be found?

Will it get better or should I roll a nuker now ~_~
Shot answer? Well, I have several:

A. Wrong forum.
B. Groups in that level range are a lot more rare these days than they were back in the day.
C. Hex is sweet merciful goodness and your cubics are okay. Hey, I said they were "okay"...I didn't say anything about them being cheap.
D. If it bothers you this much, and given the course NCSoft has charted in regards to tank, yeah I'd say go ahead and reroll.

A friend of mine is a SK and he knows he's pretty much "Jim Jones'd"(screwed with no way out), but he likes the class so it looks like he is sticking with it. The dude likes a challenge and the path less traveled.
How many characters do you currently have?

I think the answer is easy.

Do you like playing it?
Would you like playing a nuker?

If you reroll "just because you feel you can't be of use" then you run the risk of always rerolling.

also, just a bit of info, no one ever yells "looking for nuker" for parties.

So if that is your main concern you might be equally disappointed.
If you want to always be of use, roll a bladedancer or swordsinger.

Otherwise, if you enjoy tanking in groups (that is, pulling, pacing, keeping your mana up and the aggro on you), then continue: The SK is a fantastic tank.

As for cubics? Phantom only. Don't bother with the other two, probably get more bang for your buck using potions/shots.
Most of the exping that goes on in l2 now is done either in solo or very small parties. So if you want to level quickly, choose a class that can solo well, or find some friends that you know will party you a lot. But for that you'll probably need either a DD class (such as an archer) or a good buffer (wc/bd/sds) to buff the DDs (i.e. the archers).

A nuker will level a little faster than a hawkeye, but once it's leveled up you'll wish you had leveled an archer since they're the only damaging class that mean anything in higher level stuff (raids, pvp, sieges, etc).

Tanks and straight healers (EE/SE/Bish) will be wanted a lot for raids, but when it comes to leveling up most people will prefer to solo and then yell at you for still being too low level to help them.

My best advice for L2? learn to be self-sufficient, because people would rather kill themselves than help level up someone who, on the long run, will turn out necessary to have.
Or find a good clan.

Really a neccessity in such a clan-dependant game. Or both! :p
Hmm or try get a wolf to your lvl and play along with him.
Its really fun.
Also find players that depend on you like warsmiths and bountyhunters also some healers. Make friends with them it will pay out later on.
My paladin is always welcome to a lot BH i know because he makes the life for the BH a lot more easy with tanking heals and damage and the wolf adds a lot.

If you know some dwarfs and healers you can also make nice aoe groups. But it all depends on the ppl.
From my experience, TK and SK are useful in pole party. They'll be probably even more when the VR nerf will strike.
But more generally, tank classes need a specific dedication that nukers and archers (dualboxing because boohoo they can't find a support) can't understand.
The key is you need groups. If your clan/ally doesn't offer you regular parties for any reason, you won't progress. You can't solo, you can't duo and if you need DD, the DD more than often doesn't need you.

In my clan there's a TK 75 who's proud to play it and wants to prove it's possible to play a tank and stay legit (his goal is not to sub as soon as possible but to raise TK the more he can).
im a nerfed SE but still <3 to play it... and sub is BP coz <3 to heal

if you <3 to tank and keep the dmg from rest of party, to protect others with it... stay with SK

You can't solo, you can't duo and if you need DD, the DD more than often doesn't need you.

Dont know where ppl get this stuff that tanks cant solo.
I have no probs solo my paladin with wolf out on field mobs where herbs drop. I can hunt with no breaks at all if i choose the right spot.
Sure its not fast exp but you can do it.
In a tank duo you can switch tanking and with herbs its even more easy.
Ok maybe it becomes more harder at higher lvls (70+) but thats something i cant tell yet 8 lvls to go.

You can't solo, you can't duo and if you need DD, the DD more than often doesn't need you.

Not exactly true. I had an all-time duo with TK as a BD and i enjoyed it helluva lot, to the point where i actually refused big parties because they gave me less exp than that duo, and were far less controllable. TK can surely duo, and up to high levels too, and he is a best RB-tank that is needed every time clan desides to go after RB.
I have a SK lvl 72 and i love.
I agree that is a hard path.
SK is a tank with good pvp capabilities but is hard to learn to play it. You will need same pratice.
With Bainsh Seraph skill i can do more exp alone then a a group. I kill angels at WOA for 42k exp. My Banish Seraph is lvl 9 and its land rate is 1/3. Each shot spend 10 soul ore but angels drops 10K. Angels have a nice drop too and you can a quest for S-Jewels Parts there.
But if you are not patient and wanna lvl up fast. Reroll to a dagger, nukker or archer class.
But if you wanna guide your path to hard core zones keep with a tank. If you wanna be the last man stand at sieges and batllefields keep the tank too :)
