Alyra and Ornery: Unleashed!

General Discussion Started Last reply 47 posts

Ornery posed the following question to us: “If you could have a server with any rule set, what would you choose?”

Now i have to ask....

Why isn't a question like that asked on these boards? Why isn't a board poll created to ask that question?
Actually that is a really good question...while face to face feedback is good, it would really help to reach larger audiences, perhaps even utilize fansites to get out to an even wider range of players (both not playing and playing ones, as both are important in this question).
Didn't we have a poll about alternative-rule servers a while back?
Could be, I think it was pretty limited in scope

Put it up as a poll on Official, Vault, Stratics, onlinewelten, etc.
Also meant to say "Great write up." :D

And here that's what I thought they were doing....
your not getting what i'm getting at....

have they asked that question here on the board?
Good job.

It's nice to see that they are exploring alternate rules servers as hey will certainly bring in more players.

All good news.

  I haven't seen that yet, it was mentioned there was a poll once, but it only had very limited choices as far as I recall, with the question resurfacing, it might be a good idea to go all out and get playerfeedback from all over through polls and whatever else.

Oh yeah, and to mimick Grenorisen, it was a great writeup. :)

I've always thought a server with the Karma system turned off, and random item & coin drop would be great. At the same time, the drop rate would need to be dramatically turned up to accomodate this.

not a fan of the story style write up tbh
good info i guess but once again you guys fail to ask the important questions
woot for more GM fun ;)

still think random, and unannounced GM events would be intersting, summoning a random raid boss with consierable strength requireing a server wide raid work, and considerable amount of XP/SP/Adena or loot to go with it when it goes down.

Course i've been making a huge list of suggestions, questions.... and theories... lol
Im gonna look at the alternate rule servers.

A more relaxed server with higher rates would be pretty cool. That would bring some of the more casual players in to the game and i would imagine it would attract quite a few private server players. If a high rate server was brought in it would be constantly full :P (When i talk about higher rates im on about 2X or 3X, you should still need to put in a fair amount of work in to get the rewards out).

Other rules like RPG servers having an increased karma rate and removing the XP penalties upon death would be a nice idea.

but once again you guys fail to ask the important questions

And that is?

You are posting in the thread.
This thread isn't a poll of the playerbase, it really only adresses the few people who read this specific thread, reads the interview fully and actually answer their own choices in here.

*looks around* I don't see many answers in here.

So really this thread doesn't have anything to do with what I was suggesting above. A concious effort on the part of the team to simultaniously put a sticky poll here (maybe even write its there in the newsletter) and ask the fansites to put up a similar poll (heck, even on blah, but that can be posted by anyone), would actually get out to a lot of players, while it wouldn't be gospel, it could definetly be used in the evaluation of what kind of new playstyle servers should be put up, if any. It also have the added benefit of showing even more care about player input.

As for the thread above, its honestly not enough, I mentioned *all* fansites, Vault is but one of many.

But anyway, I was simply agreeing with Splatter thats all. (at least it has the added benefit of bumping the post up for more to see ;) )

It was great to read the write-up.
Thanks for such a great write-up, Seridove! I'd like to address the question of why an "official" poll hasn't been presented for potential alternate server types. We do want to hear from you--we are listening and appreciate your ideas, but we're not quite to the point where we’re ready to post an official poll about this subject. We're looking at many aspects of Lineage II and the community right now, and exploring ways we can improve both based on player feedback and our own observations.
Alyra, totally unrelated, but where's the post about Medal event?

Speaking of servers, transfers are coming folks! I know we’ve all heard the “in the future” line, but I’d expect to see this happening soon. When Alyra and Ornery started talking about specifics: potential fees for the server transfer service and other possibilities, it became apparent that “in the future” wasn’t that far away.

Hello Alyra,
Might you give us a clue that you are ready to handle properly the problem of account sellers that would be able to level characters on a quiet server and sell it on any server the customer wants?
I've heard of rules for the transfer in order not to ruin the economy of a server, but I'm not sure about character levels.
Of course I'm fully aware this is a good idea for honest players who moved geographically or started before European servers opened. However have you any prevision on the impact on server populations (European servers completely full and lowly populated servers deserted for example...). Will there be any rule of transfer to prevent problems or will there be consequent actions on the management of servers like closing one and opening another elsewhere?

Take care!

I'm putting it up shortly (today). :)

Hi washtak! I'd be happy to answer your question. When server transfers become available, we will have extensive rules in place to help prevent the kind of abuse you've mentioned. Once they've been finalized, we'll share them. :)
I hope you're not restricting moving to popular servers tho >.>
IMO, if a new server pops up, specially with different values and rules, tranfers to that server should obviously be denied....
Well, I think the using of characters like that is unavoidable really, there's always characters for sale all over anyway :(

I think it would be really sad if NCSoft ruins the feature to such a degree that only the secondary market can adapt.

Let say that they don't allow item transfer or adena transfer...normal players would be pretty screwed, cheaters would simply use the bad sites to transfer the money (as happened a lot with Franz and Teon) and get it.

I honestly don't see any model that doesn't seriously hurt the legit player other than to plainly just allow it for X fee period.

The other issues simply have to be dealt with in other ways or they're going to be the only ones winning.

I am really quite fearful that NCSoft will drop the ball on this...I would love to be able to play with some of my friends on other servers and perhaps even moving between several servers (like going to play with Elliebelly on Kain, then Spiritmyst on Franz, then Craysh on Sieghardt...or even move different characters to each server to team up with them), I'd gladly pop money to NCSoft for that.

I hope you're not restricting moving to popular servers tho >.>

+1

But at the same time, we all know when server transfers come, where everyone is going to go. Bartz, Teon or Franz. Some servers are deserted enough already (causing players to want transfers) but if everyone transfers off they will really be empty! It's kind of a tough situation. Empty servers makes people want transfers which causes more emptiness, etc.
IMO, Character transfers are going to have to go like this:

A set fee to transfer to any given server, All Characters present on a specific server that you want to move to another server, including the weapons/adena/armor/etc. NEEDS to be moved over as well.

There are several people that would like to move, but would only move in the case of keeping what they had worked so hard for.

Now people are obviously going to complain about "but but..." about somthing bad about this idea..

But it's simply the only way to do it, no dening it. You do it any other way and people won't want to transfer enless they've already got nothing and are high enough lvl.
Not everyone wants to go to the most laggy overfilled server there is.

We're looking at many aspects of Lineage II and the community right now, and exploring ways we can improve both based on player feedback and our own observations.

But is that "exploring" like how NC "explored" server transfers (3+ years) or "exploring" in order to implement it at some point in the (relatively) near future?
I think there should be an alternate rules server that allows pvp everywhere without pk. Including in town.

and btw, server transfers will probably suck. I think in korea you get only adena when you transfer, and lose everything else.

Yea I wanna transfer to some other server without my aq, baium, zaken, and frint...
i thoguht you quit when your clan got rolled off erica =O
Personally, since Korea already has the system implemented and, ostensibly, working, then NA/EU should have the same transfer service. Pay your $50, get a naked toon and a maximum amount of adena (based on your level) on your new server. Viola! You've transferred servers... get to work!
What??? why isn't the whole inventory transfered? is it that hard?

What??? why isn't the whole inventory transfered? is it that hard?

Yes it is.

I seriously doubt you could automate such a system with fool proof success as you could a simple toon transfer. (No tats, just say.. 67 Glad on here, with X name, and X gold)

And that exactly would ruin the whole thing and for the most part ruin it for legit players, reward cheaters and encourage more cheating (legit players jumping servers and using Adena companies to get the comparable money to get gear)
Of course they can, they already have it in UO for instance and they have vastly more complicated item system than Lineage II

Heh I think you'd be shocked if you saw what a complete and utter mess Lineage 2 code is.

No, no I doubt it could be done. Not without a ton of cash :X
But... But... think of what the influx of that adena into that server would do its economy!! It would cause prices to go way way up and you could never replace what you had on the other server. That they can't transfer my robes, etc., that seem unreal to me... since they seem to get it right every time I log in :)

Perhaps they could have something like the PTS for the initial transfers, and NPC which allows you to re outfit yourself.

PS -- I'm just engaging on principle here. Not saying I'm transfering or anything :P
would be a terible influx of adena lol.

image what prices would become when everyone had 300+ million
When it comes down to it all your character entails is some entries in a database. A well-constructed database should be easy to manipulate.

Sure, there's going to be some item IDs and other data to amend but it is not man-on-the-moon type work we're talking about.

I don't get what all the fuss is about. ;)

Heh I think you'd be shocked if you saw what a complete and utter mess Lineage 2 code is.

I doubt its as much of a mess as the UO code, thats in some places up to 13 years old, patched, repatched, undocumented, etc. etc.

heh
Transfering the character information should be quite easy.. as an account is created on the server, and residing on that server under that account is information for 7 toons (created or not).... and fore each toon, there is item/weapon/armor/jewel, WH and frieghted items and inventory/quest inventory information.... when a server transfer is initiated, it should technically be as easy as simply MOVING that entire account information over to another server.
IMO, if they allow server transsfers they should have an easy way to liquidate all chars items/gear/frieght/wh into adena and transfer a naked char with a fair amount of adena for their stash. Prices for certain items could be updated by the playerbase by way of votes.
Server Transfer = Bad. I hope L2 doesn't implement this, would be one of the worst moves that can be done to this game.

Unfortunately, it is already in the works to be implemented.

No, but it makes the most sense for the economies of both servers. It prevents a character from Server A from amassing an item relatively common on Server A (let's say DracFocs for the purposes of this illustration) and hopping to Server B where they are extremely rare and cost, let's say 500mil each, selling them off over a matter of months to maximize their profits, then moving all that adena to another toon back to server A, thereby bringing 50 billion adena back to Server A and out of Server B.

Thus, a baseline maximum of adena, by grade, is established, and you move over with no more than that. If you, personally, have less than that, that's all you move with.

No one gains adena by moving, though many can lose a lot.

totally disagree.

it would get alot of people that quite to return to the game.

tho I disagree on not allowing people to Xfer all of their gold. some legit players want to shift to a more active server should have to lose all their hard earned Boss jewelry, +6 armor, +5-16 weapons, and or money they made all through out their years in the game.

Economy's are screwed up enough as it is, more mats so on coming in would hurt a thing.
Well, imagine, like i said earlier, the adena influx if our armors, weapons, and mats aren't transferred with us but translated loosely into adena. There has got to be an alternate solution. If people were to move to my server with millions of adena to spend to replace all their stuff, that would be a disaster to our economy. If they amassed a neat little fortune on one server, they should have it transfered. I mean, after all, however they went about accumulating it, they will probably repeat on any server.
