I'm sure it does under certain circumstances..... :) But I am not under those circumstances...
I suppose if I spent more time on my main than my sub... and spent more time playing the game...... I tried to explain this to my mortgage company.... and for some reason they still want me to pay my bills every month... wth??? o.O
I remember at level 39 in a catacomb with another cleric friend who was going pp. Both of us have the argument that our own choice allowed for more active play in the game. I'm still active, the higher level I got the better groups I got... She is now boxed :(
Well you went PP back in the day when everyone went PP, and when you could still park in EG and sell buffs XD Oh and when people had LIVE prophets in party... that's the big thing.
Aye! Bishops are rare because (I think) it takes a special person to have a Bishop as a MAIN. You have to want to help others more than yourself.
Bishoping is great fun, we are a lot more versatile class than most people realize.
I remember someone interrupted me while I was soloing in FotD a while back to tell me that Bishops couldn't solo so I should stop!
I completely agree with this entire post. At 74, with a Wizard Tear and Empower 3, I solo'd at the top of Blazing Swamp. I even had members of my own clan that had to come see it for themselves. LOL The Doom Knight looking things (Cyursed Guardian, I think) were a 3 shot with MoH, and gave 9300+ each. Not the fastest xp I've gotten, but every bit helps. With mp herbs, elixirs and invo, it's easy to sustain that for hours with no breaks. My SE was only 57 at the time, so she couldn't recharge me. Also, it was the same 3 shots in DC and Maj robes, so I wore Maj, to improve MP regen some more.
Most likely the last of those statments, however, to be perfectly honest, with a +10 homun, compltely decked out like i was a mage, and with an SE in tow(again like a mage)
Bishop mains are the best! And if Tura comes back in here... GabriellaAmor is back and fit... The only thing that I don't particularly like is how everyone has a boxed something, and very few teams are looking for a b-grade bishop with nothing else to offer buff wise :/
Actually, I read here about turn undead, and went to FP Cata to try it out. (75 Bishop) Then, I grabbed a 71 EE we have, and went back. We were holding the undead in 2 small rooms, (white and yellow to me) and did so for over an hour. Neither of us ever had to even think about invo. It was an absolute blast, and talking it out in vent made other allies want to come watch. We got her 6% she needed to level in less than 1.5 hours. It was just us in group, and we had a 59 SE OOP. I was even wearing DC robes, and MP was still not an issue.
It's expensive money wise, with 5 spirit ores per, but it's safe and easy, and the xp is awesome.
lvling with undead 1shot skills is unefficient in every single way possible.
With as much respect as you are due, you are wrong.
I am lucky to have a great clan so I party quite a bit, but I also play solo a lot. I used Might of Heaven through the 60's in FotD, sometimes with emp and usually without. When I was low 70's I would hunt the undead in WoA then I started hanging out in the Imperial Tomb. I would use Turn Undead in the first two rooms whenever I could afford the ore. When I got to Cardinal, Turn Undead was the first spell I enchanted. The success rate was even better. Now I solo down in Pagan's Temple.
You said it is inefficient "in every single way possible". I am sure that I will miss some ways, but let me think through the ones which come to mind. I am basing this discussion on my current experience in Pagan's, which is similar to the Tomb but higher level. The success rate is not perfect, let me be conservative and estimate it at 50%, though I think it is more like 75% or so with the mobs I hunt.
Experience over time:
One buff round including 1 invocation, 1 set of self buffs, and running from room to room for the mobs I wanted. 30 mobs at average of 32k exp each = 960,000 exp. per buff round
Adena per exp
Average two casts of Turn Undead per mob @ 5 spirit ore per cast @ 500a each (Giran prices with 15% tax rate, applicable to Erica) = cost per mob 5000a. Rough adena average drop per mob 7000a x 70% adena drop rate = 100a net cost per mob (not considering drops). Whether or not spending 100a for 33,000 exp is acceptable or not is a judgment call, you may disagree. Note that you can hunt this way without shots.
Excitement/Fun while hunting
Excitement varies from person to person. You are often dealing with two mobs at a time and frequently three, so you have to be nimble with trances, Turn Undad, and MoH for kill shots. Pagan's also tends to be where Zarachi hangs out and where higher level players pass through, the same for the tomb.
Drops while hunting
Pagan's A grade key mats, majestic, nightmare, dark crystal. A grade item drops, rare of course. Other base mats and arrows also. Tomb gives base mats and A weapon parts. Both locations have quest for S-grade.
Ease of Access
Depends on your location but Pagan's is High. You can get to your hunting spot from Rune in seconds and the 'secret passageway' shortcut into the library is almost as fast as a SoE. Very handy huntspot.
Are there other ways which you would want me to try to measure the effeciency and effectiveness of this hunting method? I am not trying to diss you personally in the slightest, I just think your analysis of this hunting method is not accurate.
9 anything with duals blazing can kill stuff, especially if they all have major heal.or they could even act as a mele group, one or two dedicated crowd controllers and alternating the healer when mp gets low.
TauTau, the skills' success rate is too random. I have it +9 as well. You are right, many times it will work on the 1-2-3rd try, but their are also plenty times where it will fail 10x in a row.
Now, to prevent you from wasting too much time on those fails, the secret to lvling with undead 1shot skills is simple: use as many speed/reuse items/equips/buffs/whatever-the-**-exists, so that the 1shot skill has NO reuse timer.
I don't want to list everything I've done, but I managed to make the skill become so fast that 1 1 second press of the key resulted in it beeing casted 3-5x in a row, causing a lag very similar to daggers/nukers in pvp with every speed/reuse buff possible.
With this setup, you will truly be able to click a mob, wait 1 second, and it will be DEAD. Wether the skill went off once, twice, or seven times doesn't matter, the mob WILL be dead if you press your key.
After some hours, I started evaluating ratios. I went through ores as fast as a normal person goes through soulshots, I was boxing 4 support classes out of party to keep myself going, and most of all I realized their are not many places with spawns that can keep up with me (result=downtime).
So looking at that, why not just join a normal good party instead? :p efficiency up x100!
Bottomline: I know this skill could be a lifesaver for all EEs and Bishops who "never seem to find a party" etc, but really, all the effort you need to do to truly make use of this skill is just too much, and joining a regular GOOD exp group would be way more fun and cheaper ;)
First, you didn't say how the mob dies with a spell that cannot kill a mob.
Second, if you are "too lazy to type it all out" that implies that you don't know what you are talking about and makes people less likely to believe you.
Third, just curious here, did you personally earn every point of experience on your lvl 79 toon? I'm not saying you botted or bought or anything like that. I'm just of the opinion that anyone who does bot or buy is a lame loser who has proven they cannot do it the honest way and have to cheat to provide an appearance of accomplishment. I'm not saying you did that, of course.
First, I did say it was an expensive way to level. Second, you are probable the only healer in the game that has 4 79 boxed toons available to you. Third, everyone knows that groups>solo for almost any class in the game. However, in playing a healer for almost 2 years, I can tell you that groups are not always easy to find. And, the majority of the groups I do find are not even close to the best case xp wise. Unless you have a good clan, that actually xp's often, and is in a decent level range for you, the best groups you'll find for xp are in the rift. And, the only reason you get to go there is because they need you for the boss. Otherwise, at raid bosses, I'm always in the tank group, and get next to no xp.
So, unless your clan is awesome, which mine is, you will have to learn to solo if you want to level. I know I can effectively level on undead in Blazing Swamp, but they are 9k xp for a 3 shot with MoH. With Turn Undead, in FP cata, I get 25-28k, often for only one shot. And, if you are smart about it, it is almost completely safe, and sustainable until you run out of spirit ores. And, my unenchanted Turn Undead costs the same MP as my MoH does. And, as has been said, you don't -need- anything more than self buffs. And, I think it's fun watching the 4X mob's HP disappear when it lands. Also, unlike MoH, TU doesn't wake them out of Trance. So, you Trance, TU 3-4 times, and the mob is feared when it wakes up, if it lives that long.
It may not be the -best- way to gain xp, but it is definately effective, if you need to solo. This is not an accusation, but I'd guess that if you have 4 toons at 79, that are all buffer classes, you didn't actually level a healer. Those of us that have look for any way we can effectively do so, because it is too easy to level without sharing your xp with a healer, for the most part. If I'm wrong, I apologize, but from reading your posts, I don't think I am.
Again, sorry if I'm reading you wrong. Take care all.
RumPunch, the skill Turn Undead is a fear spell yes, but it also has a chance to land a lethal strike (similar to that of daggers), if it does land a lethal, it leaves the mob with 1% HP. So with one hit after that, the mob usually dies.
And I think the skills user must be talking about are stuff like Dance of Concentration, Song of Renewal, Song of Champion + Acumen, Zerk... can't think or anything else.

The point is, you cannot just spam Turn Undead until the mob dies. Unless you are expecting it to die from fear.
omg are you guys truly arguing about how someone is supposed to finish a mob with 1hp??? I assumed people could at least do that on their own... sheesh... I guess the average skill of players here is REALLY low :/
Don't ask me to explain anything. If people can't even figure out what to do with a mob with 1hp... then just lol... ><
I find this discussion so curious. Why would someone argue against someone else xping in a way that they really enjoy themselves and get the xp they want?
Boundless and his EE friend were having a great time doing that. That you would argue against it is dumbfounding.

no we weren't actually debating that. what we said was you dont know what your talking about, or seem to be making up tall tales. what we said was :
1. turn undead is a fear spell and does not kill mobs no matter how many times you use it on one.
2.how is it even possible to cast that spell 5 times in 1 second?

well, there is the only good place where you can find 6x hp undeads, maybe entrance of IT or pagan have some.
dont try 6x or lower rift, there are demons too. commander has 75 undeads and hero lvl 80 undeads but only like 2-3 rooms are good so take many frags with you.
yep you can solo there, go with someone in party that is far away or in town, go in the room, run to a corner before they spawn, wait a bit for them to regroup, trance if some mobs coming. btw, i dont use shot... spirit ore are already to expensive lol... at least i got like 10 mid grade lifestones atm. if you take EE with you is the best duo. that xp is from commander, hero has like 55k xp i think.
Thank you beleaua, great idea. I suppose this disproves the poster above who was stating that there was no possible good use for the 'lethal strike/turn undead' method of hunting.
If you wouldn't mind, could you give us some more details on soloing/duoing in the Rift? Which rooms do you skip, do you normally stay in the good rooms the full time, how does your mana hold out, what other tips and tricks could you share with us? How much spirit ore will we need to take in? Do you have Turn Undead enchanted (and to what level)?

(edited for typo)
I dont have enchanted turn undead because I'm not a cardinal. One of my clanmates has +5 or so turn undead and he think that is the same land rate like +0. He also did 77-79 in hero rift  crazy
There are 2 small rooms and 4 bigger rooms. I skip all the small rooms everytime... and mages rooms (unless I have a EE to sleep them). One has 1/2 hp mobs so only 2 big rooms with 6x hp mobs left. If I get both rooms in a row I can keep my mp for both, my mp plus invo and recharger mp plus invo. If you dont go in a corner when you enter the room better skip the room or all mobs are coming after you when they spawn. I can trance them all but its a waste of mp. Better get EE with you for the first time for clarity/recharge/trance. Dark resist and poison resist is nice also. I dont have tips, I saw many players doing that every day... sometimes you cant even find a room because is full of healers (bishops/ee).

The mobs at the entrance of IT are white to a level 76, and yellow to a level 73. They are Undead with Sacred Weakness, though.
The mobs at the Entrance of Pagans, I forget their level. I just know it took my SH friend ~15 nukes to kill them (With Hurricane, of course) @ level 73 and they were "only" 32k XP.
well good spots are near devastated castle, ancient battlegroud and north of FoD for lvl 6x... if you want only undeads
but this is wrong imo, why should bishops go solo
I reroll my Shillen Elder for a Bishop, and i can say it's the best thing i have ever done. I'm only level 50 at the moment, but out of all the toons i have played, i can wholeheartly say that it is the most fun. Things should get more interesting when i hit 56, trance, major heal, magical backfire, invo, mana burn...etc afew little things to play with.
I accidentally killed a clannie the other day, giving me pk number 6. So, I went and got a sin eater. Since my sub is -useless- for levelling a sin eater, (can't have the kitty and a sin eater out together) I rolled to FP cata on my main. When I got to the room I wanted, (a small room, 2 undead, 2 non-undead) it was taken. Another small room joins it, so I went through it to pull to the other side. One of the undead aggro'd me, and I auto-targeted it. When I clicked to run out of the room, I swung, and got the other 3 to social. That got me quickly dead. My clan leader has a TH sub, so I asked her to SM to me, and rez me with a brez I had. Once that happenned, I buffed us up, and started levelling the sin eater. (My SE wasn't killed.) After about 10 minutes, the TH said, "Man. I feel almost useless in here."
I figure that's about the only time a DD has ever felt useless in a duo with a healer.
