Well, I'm completely biased. I've played a Pally character going back to pen and paper D&D (thats more than 25 years now, lol). So I guess I'm stuck with the character type, hehe.
The one BIG issue is that they are difficult to level. You are giving up almost all of your attack power for the ability to heal (sacrifice in a pinch just rocks) and "supposedly" the ability to absorbe damage (however, I am convinced that this is a myth... at least in PVP). Another problem is that not many people raid any more (at least on Gustin), so one area where we can really shine is not used much (tanking raid bosses). As well, not many people want us in their "perfect" PVE or PVP parties... so we get relegated to soloing. Now, the one benefit we do have is vs undead. Solo in undead areas is quite easy (comparatively speaking).
I guess, long story short, you really need to like the character type, as this is going to be a labour of love, if nothing else. Mind you, who knows what is in store for us in up coming chronicles. We may have our day in the sun yet.

This is a matter of gearing correctly and hunting smart. +str -con tats, or +dex -con if you pvp more, to increase your DPS either per hit or in number of hits. Get tallum heavy, period. If you can, go with SA focus or something offensive. Go out with good buffs to any undead area, and go to town, carry a large supply of Soul ore you will fly. I can solo pagans temple like that, if i Have an EE recharging and healing its non stop till the soul ore runs out.

Just gotta be built right, correct buffs, mages, especially necros dont hurt very bad at all.

This sucks, we raid alot over on lionna so i dont have this issue.

Take two cdlers and a healer and cdl angels in MOS, get into a pagans party, you will DD better than anything else in there with a large enough supply of soul ore.

Well since c3 we have gotten, Root, AoE Root, lethal Strike, touch of life, self rez, Angelic Icon, and soon to be a hate lock...were going to get burnt if in the sun much longer.
LOL sorry couldn't resist. But I do have a serious question. To which extent could I use a Pal instead of a healer. For example, would a lo 7x trio of Prophet, Paladin and Tresure Hunter be able to take care of a large roon in the end of DO catacumb?
Well in this scenario the paladin should be tanking quite honestly not healing, in apinch if the TH got agro the paladin would do just fine. Honestly one of the fastest cata groups i ever had was a Pal, a DA and a back up Pal for heals with oop buffers. The DA would one shot nephilim's I would one shot Undead, and the third pal would heal if needed.
That trio should do well though, the paladin tanking with GHP and a self heal now and again should be just dandy.
Okay so i just read that i can use sacrifice to self heal wth!? plz plz tell me the set up you use to best utilize this :) atm I have +3 str -3 con tat for soloing as my clan isnt doing to much raiding atm *building strength up for raids. Any suggestions or hot tips to make my paladin the $hit is well appreciated :)
You misunderstand. WHile yes there is a set up to self cast sacrafice and get more HP than you spend is possible, its not for the set up i just mentiond.
The catacomb scenario, you should be fine by just using healing pots and the occasional holy blessing with a TH and proph in party, so long as you dont over pull.
As far as making your paladin bad [censored], you need to build your toon for what you do. If right now your purely pve, dump your con. Go tallum heavy and ++ str for quick leveling. If you pvp more i recomend a +dex build.
Here is what I have on my almost phoenix knight....
Dyes:
-4 con +4 dex
-1 str +1 Dex
Now The tats I use are to make my armor sets do something specific.
In tallum my stats change to
+1 Str -6con +5 dex
this has sped up my leveling significantly(not as much as a pure +str build). I can pve tank anywhere with this build, solo pagans, and own any place with undead. In party with full buffs, a blade dancer and angelic icon i can reach over 1200 attack speed, its awesome.
In Nightmare my stats go to
-1 str - 2 Con +3 dex
I find this build far better for PVP, the +dex makes huge difference in shield block rate, the NM is thicker and better protection, the -str is not really noticible nor is the -2 con.
The NM build also works great for Raid Tanking, you will out tank any DA due to 360 shield block.
Now as to how to make sacrafice self heal, it is a VERY end game build. I will say with Empower, Prayer and Zerk as buffs I can break dead even on sacrafice, so getting higher returns is just a matter of stacking + healing gear.
1. OE Sacrafice power to +7-9
2. Get an prayer passive augment 8 or better
3. Get some boss jewels orfen and zaken
4. DC heavy if you need more of a boost(i dont like the armor set though)
5. Acumen weapon if you want to get close to spaming it.
6. Buffs, Prayer, Empower
7. ToL self.

the self heal can be done in ic set /+4con +1int? /orefen/zarken (lol if you get the joke)
and a high m attack wepon you dont need prayer passive on wepon but it would help also self empower would also be same if not better/worse then the prayer. but its really only for 1v1 really or exping slowely.
Hi, I´m new on the game (just level 13) and I never played before, but I know that I will be a Paladin, even against many opinions that say "dont do a pally!!", but what can I do if I love help people? hehe
if your going to level a pld or a DA no doubt tallum heavy is the best armor. as far as the weapon your kinda screwed until you can wear Sgrade. DLE is [censored] with the bonus, extra HP is really a pvp or grp leveling thing, you really want focus for soloing, which is on the forgotton blade. i actually own a full IC set, but i almost never wear it unless its seige, world pvp or olympiad time. and as much as PLD sucks in my opininon, TK sucks more XD
oh is there any "confirmations" about any hate lock? please dont' reply to this if all you have is the rumor mole's info, i'd really like some proof on this

Please give credit to the people who came up with this idea. I know it's not yours.
PS: noobs like you showing the enemy your next strategy before it's neccesary, is what will eventually form the downfall of not only you, but many Paladins/PKs across L2.
The people who came up with this idea already figured out a way for the enemy to defeat it. And they also figured out a way to defeat the enemy once more should that happen. You might get the notes some time, but PLEASE keep it to yourself.

It's people like you that give away all of our super-secret-secrets when we all know that the only thing to do in situations like this is to strong-arm/discredit the witnesses and call the debris a crashed weather balloon.
