slowest cast, which made us most dependant on sleep. we were good until that got nerfed. youd sleep a target, then slow/silence and kite. there was no class i couldnt kill in c1. yea, even warcrier. anyway without sleep, any melee class can kill us, esp daggers. this applies to the other nukers but we dont have cancel, and slowest cast speed, and no effective melee range nukes. fear doesnt land enough to be viable.

Sh is ridiculous at end game with correct buffs, which is what all end game pvp is about. If you cant win vs a sorc or vs an sps or even a necro if you have correct buffs, then you just cant play an sh very well.

Slow > Melee, even more so if you have wind Vortex, there is another -10% run speed on that melee. If you land both of those then there isn't really much chance of any melee catching you.
SH is extremely destructive at end game with the correct buffs and setup and while their cast speed may well be lower than other nukers, it's only really a problem if you're going to 1v1 another nuker and in that instance Wind Vortex > other nukers and gives you the upper hand against ANY of them.
If a melee does manage to get into range of you pop off an aura flash and hopefully you'll remove his target giving you a few seconds to pur some distance betwen you and him/her. If we're talking end game here your aura flash will be +9 for chance too whish is nice.
If you see that melee coming there isn't much excuse for losing to one as an end game SH, just make sure your surrender to wind debuff lands or else you will put yourself at a big disadvantage.
I like PvP with my STS. Surr2Wind + Wind Vortex + Slow is incredibly effective. Sure, it won't always land, but it does land. I'm even more eager to get Arcane Power & Arcane Lore (at 78) to boost my matk to raise my success rates.
Having said that, I have beat STS before with my Destroyer sub. It's all about maintaining distance. If either Wind Vortex or Slow land then it is game over against any melee class.

Before I was lvl 77 on my sts sub I was caught by a titan under the effects of zealot even though I had him slowed, just rememvered that. The extra efects of wind vortex would probably have made a difference.

Blah de blah, SH casts slow. It's not THAT much of a biggie. SpS have a whole 4 more WIT than SH, but SH have 7 more INT than SpS which more than compensates.
And did you forget about Silence and Slow?
If you land silence, you win. If you land slow, you have a pretty good chance of winning.
I agree; SH>Sorc, SH>SpS, SH>Necro.
They also have Curse Chaos which reduces your Accuracy; I've never really used this against archers - is it effective?
Curse Chaos is worthless, if you landed it on an archer and they started to miss by some freak of nature they'd just drop a 4k double shot crit on you. Skill crits quite a bit and you will die.
And I wouldn't go as far as to say SH > SpS. If you're going toe to toe and you land wind vortex then you certainly have the advantage. Overall for pvp SpS is superior to a SH.
many things are useless about our class, surrender to poison? gimme a break. also dark attack nerf affected us thou it was aimed at necro. good to hear from other sh's, and im not interested in the opinion of non-sh's.

unbuffed you might land silence, but since NO-ONE is unbuffed in pvp anymore, sps cancel > our buffs, then its game over. i only try to silence bishops, ee's forget it, never lands.

The dark attack nerf never really bothered ne that much. The only time I ever really used my dark atacks was to xp with. Always preferred wind attacks for pvp especially after you get wind vortex, it's the only way to flyyyy lol. If I was pvp'ing though and kiting someone who was slowed that I knew needed mp for skills I'd land both vortexes on them regardless of the dark attack nerf to suck away at their mp while kiting and nuking.
If it's true that DoT's are significantly buffed in CT1 then poison might actually be fun to use, the whole mechanics for DoT's needs an overhaul imo.
PVP is okay if you are facing the right class, archers can kill us with a comp bow and doom light. I have always had good luck against melee, it can take forever if your slow doesnt land, poison is almost useless DOT for us, i pretty much stick with the old reliable nuke and slow, that's about all we can do, life tap doesn't bring enough back, being a SH is exspensive as heck and i really want an auto loot feature so it would save time
Actually yeah that is one thing I do miss about the lack of dark resists. Vampiric Claw was always a nice way to deal some damage to an enemy and get a bit of HP back.
As for slow not landing, how often does that happen lol. the land rate of that skill in my experience is disgusting.

just omg... >_> try a sps/necro(not cdl)... i hate when i see sh's death spiking their [censored] off on xp. omg ppl... l2p for gods shake
sh is imo one of the fastest xp and adena makers in the game. just party a freaking SE, xp on freakin green/white mobs with a freakin +4int dye using a decent weapon and [censored] the mobs in 1 or 2 hits making freakin adena in freakin no time. gosh
If you want to xp efficiently you use death spike and there aren't many mobs out there that an SH 2 shots which is similar in level that a necro does not. They're almost identical in that sense. In fact anything we need to 3 shot with spike can be reduced to 2 by a necro, all they gota do is use gloom first.
this is such a stupid thread lol!
all be it im only 71 right now!
but i can kill s graders now if you have trouble killing end gamer classes with an sh your just not playing your class right!
melle = slow surrender to wind then fire away till they drop curse of fear if you need it !
nuker= silence ,slow , surrender to wind fire away
archer = curse chaos ( which is useful) ,slow ,curse fear , surrender to wind and fire away yet again!

search a bit more maybe and u will find 2shot mobs
ps: using gloom or surrender in xp is just stupid. its like using one more nuke. l2p ppl
ps2: im wondering how did u reach those high lvls in your main and sub, and yet u still dont know basic xp facts

Seems you missed the point which admittedly was made poorly.
My post was in response to your reply about SH's being expensive as heck.
A note on that btw, people normally want to xp efficiently, the most efficient way as an SH is with death spike, careful throwing around the term "l2p" when you make comments like the one you did about how you feel when you see SH's spamming death spike in xp.
Like it or not there will be situations where certain players don't 2 shot that mob because they might not have that 1 extra enchant or they may be using clan hall buffs as they don't have an SE buffpet or one to duo with since live SE's aren't that common. The comment about using gloom was in regards to a situation where a 2 shot wouldn't be possible and thus not so effective in making money a necro has a slight advantage where it can turn that 3 shot into a 2 shot and spend less adena on that kill 3x bsps+2 bones versus 3x bsps+3 bones. It was NOT a suggestion that gloom or surrender (keep in mind I didn't mention surrenders btw, that was you, also keep in mind gloom isn't a surrender). Now with that being said this is all dependant on the SH using death spike to xp and I would venture to say that EASILY, at least 95% of SH's in NA use death spike to xp rather than hurricane which is why that was all brought up.
I'm fully aware of the basics of xp, maybe that's why my sig says 78/77 and yours only says 72 :(
And to Zhao99 - Curse Chaos is useless, a waste of SP levelling that up until it actually becomes more effective. Say you curse Chaos an archer and by some utter freak of the game mechanics he misses more than once out of 30 shots on your robes, what will he do? Oh I know, he'll bust out double shot which will hit you for over 1k regularly or for up to 4k or so on a crit. You would be much better advised using the time you spent casting Chaos to instead do some damage.
I love playing SH as my sub.. after spending 77 lvls as an SE it is a nice change of pace.. they lvl quick, especially with a support toon tagging along, pop a magic haste pot and go. Not to much into the pvp aspect of the game so cant' comment there but pve.. I love it

Gloom use more mp then death spike so it's still best for a nerco to 3 shot just like an SH which does more damage...SH has higher INT.

actually u should imagine what if u had clicked "i wanna be phantom summoner" at lvl 35 :)
really archers or nukers complains about anything when their pvp power and leveling speed is 2-5 times higher then most other classes are always fun to read.

im afraid u r wrong. most ppl want to make money from xp except if u r a mega ebayer or sth. as a sh u have the chance to make tons of adena using cdl/hurricane in addition to having very high matk which means 1-2 shot mobs. all you need is emp3 from a SE. i know that there arent many live buffers out there like they used to be, but its not impossible to find one, add him to friendlist and xp with him most of the time. Anywayz, everyone and their mother has a buffer nowadayz, so chances are your friend will be able to give u a buffer to xp with. U dont make a mage if u know you wont be able to have decent buffs or are willing to go cdl all the way or death spike off using l2day scrolls and [censored] which is what many stupid ebayers do.
Ppl who want to make a char to pvp mostly make necros and fewer sps. SH is for those that really like the class or are making it to lvl fast and make lots of adena at the same time (which can be done easily even with cdl. just get a god **** SE).
Necros are using death spike cos there are 13year olds playing them or they just dont give a [censored]. They dont have a choice (almost) either. SH should almost never use ds, its just plain stupid imo.
ps: im 72 cos this is not my main.
ps2: i know gloom=25% mdef reduction so it amplifies any spell dmg not just of one element. but to the necro its just like a 'surrender to all necros spells' debuff so its basically a surrender to him. that is what i meant. i hope u get it now

Forget about Arcane Power. It's pretty useless in pvp unless you have someone spam healing you. In pvp, a SH's strength is nukes, not debuffs. Arcane Power (since it got nerfed) adds just a meagre amount of damage to your nukes' effect, while it burns all your HP within a minute.
just omg... >_> try a sps/necro(not cdl)... i hate when i see sh's death spiking their [censored] off on xp.

That's correct.
I xp on my main (a PvE-oriented lvl 78 StS) to farm adena, since SH is so increadibly cheap to level solo.
Then I use the adena to lvl my Soultaker sub, and then it's like... ouch: 1k adena per nuke (since I can't CDL).
At the same time, SH's are glass cannons indeed, because they don't have any reliable means of crowd control. For example, as a ST, I can get through pretty much any area in game solo, and I can last long enough in pvp. As a StS, I'd have to bsoe when aggroed by a bunch of 5x hp mobs, and get 1-shotted by a hero archer in PvP. :(
imho do quests
a sh (with support) can kill quest mobs blazing swamp/ ketra/ silenos /woa much more efficient then a meele or even archer making the gain per mob much better.
even events like the medal even we have right now are in favour of fast killing ranged soloable classes.

Because not only does 3 death spikes cost more money, but gloom and 2 death spikes is faster... and if you are running out of mana, get another recharger.

what i dont get is why even think about gloom or surrender on xp. dont go on yellow/red mobs, go on green/white ones and 2 shot them. and dont tell me u cant cos i ve seen shs 2shot yellow mobs with emp3, zerk2 and a homu+++ (around +8) which is not a crazy setup. homu +7 and emp3 = 2 shot green mobs easily
There were some green monsters in FoD my Necro could not two shot with Prophet buffs empower 3, PoW (and maybe dances? can't remember). Sometimes it has to be done
Necros are using death spike cos there are 13year olds playing them or they just dont give a [censored]. They dont have a choice (almost) either. SH should almost never use ds, its just plain stupid imo.
+1, TBH I preffer to lose a bit more of MP than waste adena on cursed bones ^^ OFC, If you're ebayer/you're really rich, then that doesnt matter that much (and even in that case, I wouldnt use death spike :p)

Oh, and just an FYI for all of you. I will say it again, but if you have full buffs, you usually don't lose money on cursed bones. The people that do use them are usually rich, yes, but they are rich because they know you don't make money by picking it up off the ground in this game.

if you have emp you will always break even on cursed bones after mid B grade and its not like anyone actually makes cash but picking up adena :/

physical skill crits are x2 damage, too bad you didnt know till now. oh noes... and you have a high lvl archer... go to your mama, ebay some more chars and most of all [censored]. thnx & hf
as for making adena by picking it up. a friend glad made 100mil+ from 65 to 74 just from xping. focus duals, crafting his own ss, +5str dye and hunting on green/white mobs with good drops (both adenawise and matwise). that is all. a BD would make even more and much faster.
ps: with very good buffs i would cdl and make double the money. especially as a necro it would be quite safe to do it with good buffs
I would think all the money in this game is made from mobs.... or adena quests (this one is a big lol, but had to say it...)
No? Where else would it come from exactly?
Sure I personally make adena from crafting and playing the market but where is that adena I "play" with come from eh? :) My first few millions were made from manor, where did the adena someone paid for those materials come from in the first place? :)
It's sure as heck it's not comming from selling items to npc shop...
Sooo....

I think your skills of comprehension are severely lacking and that you are grasping at straws.
That quote says it will regularly hit a target for over 1k OR for up to like 4k or so which of course depends on the target which was implied in that statement, had I said AND instead of OR you'd have had a point but sadly you don't. I know perfectly well how physical skill crits work, I'm sure I can pull the formula for how they are calculated out from under a rock but you would probably fail to comprehend that too.
You get 3/10 for effort and I think that is being generous.
And again, you want to level efficiently you level with death spike until you can efficiently use CDL somewhere like the tents at HS when using spike maybe becomes less efficient. Personally I preferred to solo MoS when I got a bit higher but not everyone has those buffs. The quest there wasn't bad to subsidize all the cursed bones I went though. There are other ways to make money rather than relying on what you pick up from a mob vs what you spent to kill it.

Or you could spend two days in Giran and make 100 million, easy. It is VERY VERY easy to play the market. I make all my owns shots too, that doesn't count as making money by hunting though, in fact, it's the opposite. My point is, instead of making that 100 million from 65 to 75 (probably at least a week for the fastest player, and 2 weeks for a normal player that still levels hard) you could make 40 million, use bones, and do it about 30% faster, unless you don't have unlimited mana of course. Take those 2-4 extra days, spend them in town, and I promise you will make more than 60 million. And the best part is, you can do other things while you sit in town trading :)
Indeed, you can earn money from other ways... and? If you earn money "from other ways" plus from grinding, I guess you'll earn bit more :) Dont think that lvling with death spike is more efficient than lvling with Hurricane, tbh. I'm not saying that it's bad to lvl with DS, but it isnt "more efficient" either. You sacrifice adena for mp; I save adena sacrifying mp, instead, and I dont think that it's so bad to sit every X minutes for a little rest ;)
Could take all that resting and spend it in Giran making money instead, and it works better. But hey, what do I know, I've only geared countless characters in A/S grade without help from any clans or alliances :p
Edit:
Sorry, my post came off a little rude I think. There is nothing wrong with how you play, and I did the same for a very long time. I actually liked resting, because it let me give my eyes a break. However, I want to give people the best advice you can give, and the ONLY reason you shouldn't level with death spike is if you don't know how to make money in town.
death spike/cdl is not the only option.
i use hurricane/shadow flare at VoS for overhits and i make decent money just by picking drops. maybe it's not 100kk per week, but atleast i can afford my Agrade equip, ports, shots and other comsumables. i don't have time to play the market (nor the knowldge), i level meybe slower, but it's not impossible - in fact for me it's very comfortable play. depends on the goals and playstyle.
Oh I know, he'll bust out double shot which will hit you for over 1k regularly or for up to 4k or so on a crit.
Please don't ever throw around the term "l2p" again.
Thanks.
physical skill crits are x2 damage, too bad you didnt know till now. oh noes... and you have a high lvl archer... go to your mama, ebay some more chars and most of all [censored]. thnx & hf
as for making adena by picking it up. a friend glad made 100mil+ from 65 to 74 just from xping. focus duals, crafting his own ss, +5str dye and hunting on green/white mobs with good drops (both adenawise and matwise). that is all. a BD would make even more and much faster.
ps: with very good buffs i would cdl and make double the money. especially as a necro it would be quite safe to do it with good buffs
You get 3/10 for effort and I think that is being generous.

and you fail yet again to cover up your lack of sufficient brain cells... in that statement that dude was talking specifically about spellhowlers. your reply was about sh's too. but lets assume u talked about nukers generally. too bad all of them have the same p.def. oops, you fail again... what a pitty. now quote me and say that u were actually talking about tanks when u said 1k dmg and about nukers in the second statement. get a life, will you plz?
ps: to cover this side too... the equation for double shot if i remember correctly is (Skill Power+P.Atk)*70/P.def so even if an archer's patk goes from lets say 2,5k to 3,5k full buffed, the skill damage will go up by only a small amount compared to the increase of patk. so no chance of hitting ds for 1k and then fully buffed crit with ds for 4k no matter wth you might think. again l2p
Gnatalye: actually 65 -> 74 took 2 months with pp and se buffers in party, tallum, b grade duals +4 and full xp dyes. i dont know how its possible to go 65->75 in 2 weeks let 1 week lol :p. maybe a sh/necro with oop pp,se,ee,bd could do it if he played 12 hours a day lmao... plz tell me how u did it
also, i ve tried playing the market but i found it too slow and not that rewarding. i must have made about 5-6 mil in 1 week. teach us plz hwo to make 100mil in 3 days :) seriously ;)

Obviously not on the same target. Even the biggest noob knows this lol. p.def changes dependant on buffs as I am sure you know, think about that whjile applying it to that statement although I'm sure I'll need to explain it to you along with what it implies later.
There so much implied in that statement which in your attempt at grasping at straws you have failed to see. It was quite a loose statement, if you actually sat and thought about it instead of picking out of it what you want to see as a way of showing me up for telling you death spike is the most efficient way to level you would see that.
comparing a 78 pp buffed+cov/dance archer to a 52 pp buffed SH, because thats what is needed for a 4k crit to happen, is not very wise. u can take off your armor too if u wanna check how far damage goes.
anyway its agreed that death spike is a little more efficient, but for some of us that depend on money made from xp, we find it stupid that a SH with his matk and his choice of using hurricane should use death spike. thats about it

I did it with my Necro in about a week and a half. And yeah, I had OOP Prophet SE, 78 EE, and BD actually. I was just stating the min amount of time just in case anyone called me on it :)

Sort of depends on how things are working. One easy way to make money (but requires a lot of money) is watch Giran taxes. If they are low, but two SoR, put them together, break them, and sell crystals overnight. You would be surprised how many people buy. MOST money comes off knowing what will happen in the future though. Anyone that bought up Valhalla blades/recipes before they got acumen on them made a ton! :)
Well, like you said no offense to any live SE's, but no. Sadly, with the way their character works now, 90% of their job can be done with hitting a macro every couple minutes, and most people say, why should I bring so and so's SE to 75, when I can have my own 75 SE, and box one instead. :(
after 3 years of playing an SE on and off I can say, just reroll if you're playing one as main... the only class with a single unique skill and its at 78 and completely outdone in every way by the orc versions...
P.S. any guesses on when they'll give orcs recharge?
My main class is Cardinal. I subclassed a Howler a couple of months ago and the sub is A grade now.
I am having great fun as a Howler. I switch between demon and majestic (which I use on the Cardinal) as needed for power versus MP regen, though I am finding that most mobs I hunt are two shot even in majestic.
Given three years of experience as a mystic/bishop/cardinal, I would like to offer a comparison to levelling as a SH.
Levelling a Spellhowler is amazingly easy.* Please don't complain about any inefficiencies you find in your class. Howling rocks, the damage is great, your spell casting options are wonderful, and your animations are cool. Personally, I love when opponents see a human cardinal and think 'Healer = easy kill' then I can open up with howler casts.
RE: OP, the current thinking seems to be that cast speed > power because the first spell may hit and interrupt our first cast. However, like so much current thinking, it is (I think) flawed. Interrupts are not that common and if we are not interrupted we win, all else being equal. Therefore, the likely outcome is a howler win, not a howler loss, versus sps. I agree with some of the other posters which, if played correctly, a SH is extremely powerful in end game.
* Based on my expeience levelling a Cardinal to 76 (about half of the exp solo), two other toons to A grade, and several others into B.
many things are useless about our class, surrender to poison? gimme a break. also dark attack nerf affected us thou it was aimed at necro. good to hear from other sh's, and im not interested in the opinion of non-sh's.
I have always had good luck against melee, it can take forever if your slow doesnt land, poison is almost useless DOT for us, i pretty much stick with the old reliable nuke and slow, that's about all we can do, life tap doesn't bring enough back, being a SH is exspensive as heck and i really want an auto loot feature so it would save time
oh rheeleey?
just omg... >_> try a sps/necro(not cdl)... i hate when i see sh's death spiking their [censored] off on xp. omg ppl... l2p for gods shake
sh is imo one of the fastest xp and adena makers in the game. just party a freaking SE, xp on freakin green/white mobs with a freakin +4int dye using a decent weapon and [censored] the mobs in 1 or 2 hits making freakin adena in freakin no time. gosh
Look at the MP cost of the skills Death Spike and Hurricane and you will see that the first paragraph in your reply makes no sense. Almost 20 MP a cast difference at 7x levels, and many good XP spots are Dark Weak (WoA Angels, MoS). Both nukes have the same power until you OE them (Power OE on Hurricane is much better).
On the flip side, CDL has pretty much same cost as Hurricane, Prominence, and Hydroblast. Level a Necro 2 shotting with Death Spike and 2 shotting with CDL and you will see that even the high levels of Body to Mind aren't enough to give you optimal uptime over long grind sessions. Death Spike wins for XP unless leveling in Forest of the Dead or some other place with Dark Resist, IMO.
this is such a stupid thread lol!
all be it im only 71 right now!
but i can kill s graders now if you have trouble killing end gamer classes with an sh your just not playing your class right!
melle = slow surrender to wind then fire away till they drop curse of fear if you need it !
That may work vs a warlord, but look how many 600 range skills you are using. Tyrants are hella fast even with Slow, and both Tyrants and Gladiators have 600 range skills that crit hard and [at end-game] can be fired off so fast it's hard to get a cast off
Stay away from the melee, and hope you kill them before they get that close. Slow won't help when they catch you in Pagans/IT/Catacomb because by the time you target them they may already be chaining specials on you, anyways (Pro gankers have a summoner parked further in to avoid spies at the port in/entrance).
nuker= silence ,slow , surrender to wind fire away
That won't work on a high level MM, because the MM will Surrender, Ice Vortex (-30% Speed, -10% Cast Speed) you, and if he wants he can Frost Bolt you from up to 900 range without the need to flag because it's a nuke that slows. It will probably land with Surrender and Vortex. You will never close the distance to silence said MM if you intend on running up to it to Silence. It will just Slow you itself from 900 and kite back while it nukes you and kills you. Wind Vortex is the winner here, hopefully the MM doesn't interrupt it since it will get it's Vortex off first if it sees you first/sees you coming.
Necro cast faster than you. It will Gloom you and cast Silence. Both those will be off before you Silence (I've done many tests with same setup/buffs SH/StSc) if he uses hotkeys (not force macros, since function key presses/mouse clicks on the skill bar are queued and allow fast/efficient chaining of skills). You're basically giving him an easy win running in to Silence. It's a more adept debuffer than you, stay back and nuke. Hopefully your higher damage gives you more interrupts and allow you to take him down. If he is out ganking with a Corrupted Man it will probably have Acu/Zerk and cast fast enough to pose a problem, though (with Beast BSPS). It casts a drain and has high'ish M.Atk.
Sorceror, well, they can get Curse Fear off before your Silence so hopefully you get lucky. But you will probably win Sorcs more than any other nuker due to many of their primary skills being nerfed.
Sorcerors and SPS can cancel you. They take you Acumen and/or Greater Empower off... Good Fight. They have a close range skill that can cancel your target also, and it OE'able for chance.
All nukers have shutdown skills, and if an SH is intent on running into 600 range to Silence every nuker it fights it runs the risk of being feared before it gets Silence off due to the cast speed difference. Buff up properly and hope you enemy doesn't, and take advantage of your higher dmg/nuke and/or Vortexes.
At seiges good nukers always kite back when they are targetted or if some skill or debuff lands on them. Only nooby players follow them into the CoV Archer group...
archer = curse chaos ( which is useful) ,slow ,curse fear , surrender to wind and fire away yet again!
The Archer will mostly likely have 2 shotted you or stunned you by the time you did all that. Fear isn't guaranteed to land, and boss jewels shut it down pretty hard currently. If your fear is resisted you just gave the archer a second chance to stun you, and you haven't even started doing damage to it yet.
simple as!
No, it's not that simple. This is not Final Fantasy, where each player has a set AI. People play their classes differently, gear themselves up differently in some cases, and use varying PvP tactics.
Range > melee in L2, but Range is useless if you keep closing the distance to them to go debuff.
Fear is the only clutch debuff I would bother casting in close range PvP (as an SH), and only because the cast and refresh time on it is very imba. Once fear lands, why bother casting other debuffs. Why bother casting slow followed by fear when you can probably fear and then slow? You are giving the archer way too much time to shoot at you.
TauTau: Saying SH wins if they aren't interrupted is a bold statement to make.
It's Lol funny that so many SH frown upon using Death Spike when they get both it AND Dark Vortex. No wonder they never kill me. One SH I faught Dark Vortex'd me (landed it) then proceeded to hurricane me. I had no resist buffs, whatsoever. That line of thinking will lose you many fights, especially at 76 when your only Vortex is of Dark Element.
SH is the most versatile true nuker, yet so many play like Sorcerors with an extra M.Atk buff and slower cast speed.
many things are useless about our class, surrender to poison? gimme a break. also dark attack nerf affected us thou it was aimed at necro. good to hear from other sh's, and im not interested in the opinion of non-sh's.

Vortexes stack now?
Nope, but they used to which is more what I was referring to. Can't remember if it was C5 or Interlude when they changed it.

just one thing to keep in mind. 2 shots with death spike are most likely 1 shots with CDL. so it might cost more manawise, but its less than 2xDeath spike mp cost and cheaper. thats the point i was trying to make
I wouldn't lvl with CDL in crowed places where mobs spawn behind your back or using ranged nukes. CDL is efficient if you can handle it and not suiciding. Nothing beats 1 shotting mobs. But you cannot 1 shot mobs at WOA angels with CDL. Dream on. Wiser to Darkvortex + spike.
try cdl in upper mos, hoho. awesome xp but pretty certain a death which wipes out the xp. (usually from a mob that spawns behind me that i cant see). i used to cdl at woa on the angels, worked well, they glitched tho which made em easier. you can 1 shot mobs back of vos with cdl which is 10k / 1 hit, best xp in game from 60-70 imo

Totally agree with CDL in VoS, just have to watch the Blade of Splendors and like mobs. But if you do it right, with CDL in VoS you can go from 67-70 in a weekend.
This is gonn sound silly, but here goes. I've tried CDL just a couple of times, in upper 50s in FP. I was very unimpressed at the damage it did, so I did not keep using it.
1) At what level does it become more useful than just 2-shotting with Hurricane?
2) How do you consistently get the HP low enough to start using it? Without dying that is - darn SHs are just peices of glass holding a rocket-launcher, really.
FYI, my SH alt is currently level 60.
funny that your arent impressed by the damage
how low on hp do you go?
for starters you should get yourself bless body and if you can't get it from a buffer then get it from a staff, crystal staff should do the trick but if you have the cash you can get the B grade one (forgot name) which has a higher lvl BTB on it
obviously you should have +4 con but i assume you have that already
my method to knock my hp down is to nuke a mob once and then let it beat on me while i BTM
when my hp is low enough i one hit it with cdl and go to work on all his buddies
Now I'm starting to get somewhere. No, I don't have BtB, I have an SE I drag around with me, and I haven't gone for the +CON yet. So now I know a couple of things to aim for. Trying at maybe 10% HP in FL without the +CON or BtB, damage wasn't worth the bother - I still needed 2 shots, and I was much more at risk than just 2-shotting with Hurricane. My main interest in this isn't even to level faster. But if I can nuke for 1 bsps instead of 2, then the cost savings are something to aim for.
get a good mage weapon with acumen (your going to need to cast quickly) and BTM down to below 300 HP (the lower the better obviously). Now go to town with CDL. Use Corpse Life Drain to boost your HP and re-BTM to keep your mana up. Always keep Vamp Claw where it is easily usable incase you get into a hairy situation so you can restore your HP in emergencies. Usually, CDL can one-shot mobs that require 2 with hurricane when your HP is too low to use BTM.
Note: make sure you choose your mobs carefully- mobs that have a magic/ranged attack can probably one-shot you while you do this.
vamp claw has kinda been replaced by elixers these days
the idea of +con and BTB is that while 300 hp would be 10% hp with no tats/buffs it might be something like 6% with them giving you more damage at the same hp or the same damage at a higher hp lvl
if you can 2 hit mobs with huricane and only 2 hit them with CDL i wouldn't bother with it.
you can hunt around for more easily 1 hittable mobs or just wait till your next skill lvl where 1 hitting should be posible
the only time you wont be able to 1 hit a mob with CDL that you can 2 hit with hurricane is mobs that are dark magic resist. If I hit a mob for 1500 dmg with Hurricane, I can usually hit it for 2800+ with CDL...

+CON is mandatory as that extra HP counts for CDL damage. That's why you damage is low to begin with.
Bless the body is mandatory because the extra HP doesn't account for damage in CDL, which is vague and unknown to many but an important thing about it.
CDL is 2x Power Death Spike at 0 HP. Because Blessed body doesn't account for it, it means that you can be at Total HP - HP added by Blessed Body and get the full 2x Power from CDL. @ level 70 a SH will have ~3k HP, which means Blessed Body level 2 from Crystal Staff will add about ~420'ish HP which is more that what is needed for 1 Body to Mind. You can endless CDL with full benefits with that setup.
You don't want +5 WIT for CDL because Avadon is optimal enough (you should 1 hit all mobs CDL'ing at e.g. Cemetary @ 52-56) in B Grade and in A Grade you will most likely not bother with it until 7x. By then you should have a DC set which is optimal enough and you can CDL in WoA/Hot Springs, etc. with that setup. Berzerker Spirit helps also, but not everyone can run 3 accounts (the first buffer u'd have is an SE :) ).
You want/need the extra +4 CON. CON = Damage. Without the Extra CON... Well, you'll find out. Go +5 WIT and see for yourself :p
Dark Elves are already LOW CON, so that should be a clue to get +4 CON IMO.
Personally, I found it not a good place at that level on my SH, even with a boxed SE. Yet others say you can do VoS starting at 52. My advice is try a few rounds in both FP and VoS, and make your pick.
hy im lvl 57 now, im wondering if im able to handle mobs on
VoS w/o SE EE, or is it to tough, 3x shot for 1 mob maybe??
You're a bit late getting to VOS, IMO. I know I started there at level 48 and 48-54 was a 2 day gig and that was running back to forth to town for SE + PP buffs (I didn't start buffer until level 58).
Level 57 just thinking about VoS, with 2 buffers.. You probably lost about 5-7 levels killing elsewhere, just in the time it took you to do 52-57, depending on gear.
so i was to late..maybe im to carefull then because mobs on VoS are 60+, btw my gear is Avandon/Demon and Homu +9 accu, +4 int, +4 wit, need only +4 con for better dmg output cdl...anyway thx for info.
Lol... You probably lost about 10+ levels in all that time, then.
With a +9 Homu and a Demon Robe set, you can start leveling there at 48 on an SH.
48-56 is only a few days wiht that setup, and then another couple few days for 56-61 (since you have Zerk/BtB/BtS/Invigor/Resist Fire/etc.).
The trick to leveling a nuker fast is knowing that you an do deep red mobs as long as they are not too high level, and still be able to kill them effiicently with a good setup.
Just because they are levle 60-62 mobs doesn't mean you can't start killing them with level 48 skills. Could have found that out by using search on this board when you were around that level.
With your setup, Valley of Saints is a free PL from 48 to 61+. Soloing there is actually better than a pole group. I thikn you can do like 55% a buffround at level 48 with a recharger + SE/PP (no downtime, 2 shot mobs).
I remember doing like 14% a buffround @ level 61 with just a same-level SE (OOP) with a level 50 Warlock Leaching. But I don't pickup until I leave and my computer setup let's me control both computers rather nicely, and I kill uber fast.
Well actually i am not agree with that.Sh still one of the best nukers ig.Sh's are much better than sorcs and necros nowdays(the only chance to kill sh for necro-try to paralyze). They have elemental and dark attacks so it is always able to choose. When you fight other nukers it is enough to buff 1 type of resists but when you fight sh you need to get 2 of them. They still best nuker class on sieges and mass pvp.Full buffed sh got most high crit rate of all nukers. You can easy take down all melee classes exept daggers(thoose a hard for all mystic classes i think).
If you fight sps and your vortex landed u ll win for sure. The only problem is you are still 2 hit guy for any full buffed archer<3.Prolly it will be fixed in ct1 through doomcryer new buff but it will be still hard to get such buffer for each nuker party since most of them will be in archers.

Necros have faster cast speed, Silence, Anchor, Fear, Gloom, and a Servitor that can nuke/stun/melee/backstab.
If you think it's all about Para, then good grief :)
i dont see a A grade necro, all i see is a female mage with Avadon robes. I assume she is the necro you speak of.
If you think that is DC, then you need to recheck your gear lol.
I'd assume you're talking about the girl who is half hidden behind your SE ... but while the picture then shows para landing, ganking someone with less buffs than you still doesn't really show anything. :p
Yes, Maline, you're right. And that's not my SE, those are her buffers (hence the PROPHET is dead). The nuker (a Necromancer) is wearing DC Robe Set.
She had a 7x SE and PP. I have level 62 SE buffs and Dance of Concentration. I believe that prophet is S Grade. It's just a buff pet so they put cheap gear on it.
Look at my buffs: Level 62 SE Buffs. Obviously no Prophet since I'm using GMHP...
The 2k nuke was on a mob, if that's what you're looking at.
You don't get XP from PvP. You only lose some when you die.
The SE is untagged (from what I can see), so sorry for not being able to mind-read and figure out from there that she was obviously from the same person as the (tagged) buffpet.
You'd assume the other person wouldn't have died para'd with an SE with them, or at least would have died regardless of para or not if there was an SE there.
And yes, I was referring to conc - we all know how much of a different cast speed makes for nuking matches. ;o
Ok I just skimmed through this and I can already tell that this went from talking about SH's being worst class end game (which I don't understand at all) to something dumb about a noob necro and something blah blah blah what is truely going on here?
Whether or not I had Concentration or not, she would have goten Anchored. Concentration doesn't add any M.Atk (like Mystic does) and when you get ganked, well... You usually don't see it coming.
Anchor was to prevent BSOE. I could have just Silenced if I dind't want her to nuke me. It landed alot on her even without Gloom :)

On a class that already gets innate 50% heal penalty, why on earth would you want to wear Cg Robes with -HP Set Bonus, slow cast speed, and very low P.Def...
Thus the comment. Didn't even bother reading the whole thing.
PS: Despite what it says, the healing penalty only applies to base healing power, so it's not as bad as the nerf says since any healing power increase caused by BSpS is carried over fully.
get a good mage weapon with acumen (your going to need to cast quickly) and BTM down to below 300 HP (the lower the better obviously).
You pretty much have it right there. I die maybe once every 5-7 hours of gameplay due to curse death link. I never play without an SE though. It's more than worth the small amount of XP loss for the amount you gain from using a skill that costs the same as your main nuke and does basically 2x damage. If I fail a spell or pull a mob on accident, vampiric claw saves the day. I've had cases where even vamp claw fails. What I do is target my last mob that just died and corpse life drain it. If you're lucky, you can snag some HP and then toss on a greater or quick heal pot and continue what you were doing.
People think I'm crazy, but once you know which mobs have AOE/range skills it's not too hard to preemptively get your heath up before engaging those types. Switch back to normal nukes and slowly work your HP back down to a point where CDL is effective.
In groups, it's even easier. As long as your tank is aware of what you're doing they can help keep aggro and keep AOE mobs away from you. Never go into a room full of mobs ready to CDL though. Wait until you get a nice groove going, and then start getting comfortable with the aggro. I find that if I wait about 2 seconds before engaging a mob, the rest of the group can maintain aggro until it is dead.
+4 int, +4 wit, -8 men, +4 int from Demon Robes (-1 wit and -270HP) is the setup I run. With a +4 Con -4 Str tattoo I can counter the hitpoint loss.
