Just to let everyone know, OLs are one of the best toons to play - Hehe
No seriously, should you have a question or need help with something to do with OLs, please feel free to post here. We have some excellent OLs in the game and quite a few quality posters here on the Lin2 Message Boards.
quite true, OL's are toons u need to play with dedication and because u like em not because u want to have the overpowered class of the month or the one two shot killer
I have a lvl 64 OL. I have a great clan and have been leveling some with them but I do a LOT of soloing. What is the best spot for a 64 OL to solo in your opinion?
it all depends on how you solo.... buffs/buffers, gear, lvling style.
I imagine VoS would be great since mana herbs drop and they use magic against a high m.def orc.... but again it depends on your XP setup, they have high evasion so the way I lvl with a dagger may not be so good there.

If it's GREAT, how come You end up soloing? This clan is not "great". It's "bad" at best.
On topic:
64? Try Devastated Castle area or FG.
BW heavy + focus dagger + oop buffer (VR and Haste are a must).
VoS is a place for real DD, not a DD wannabe.
Yeah, I agree with szaman, if the mobs actually have time to attack you, VoS is not a good option.
DC/FG are great spots, then I moved on to beast farm which was pretty sweet and then BS which was horrible, but I kinda needed the pouches so didn't have much choice since the neutrals I were with at the time couldn't handle cabrio + ToI and pouches made great bribery material.
As for if you can't party find a new clan, that depends on your server. Generally speaking, on mine if you CAN find a party, there HAS to be something wrong with that party. Great parties don't invite OLs. Good parties don't invite OLs. Even half-***** parties don't usually invite OLs. If a party is dumb enough to invite an OL instead of either a real dd or a real buffer, it either ends up as a massive-death party, or a very low exp party (i.e. something a self-buffed OL without oop buffers can do double the exp of easilly) or a spellbook hunting party on Dino Island which combines high death rate and low exp rates.
Agree with ya bro. OL's means no group for you. Solo'ing with oop buffs is the only way to level an OL. Most clans dont find a need for you if they arent PvP. Hook you with a BD or SwS in the cats and you can lvl. I hunt the FotD at lvl72. Good xp and xp quest in village. Tallum robs and dagger w/oop buffs. May want an SE backup.
Actually OL's are useless in pvp clans really now.... CP heal < CP Pots.
Only minor use is sieges, raids can easily be done with 2-3 parties so I come on my sagittarius sub and box my prophet/SE and give better buffs to everyone.

OLs were the FOTM because of drains... Now with the new CP Pots and new MP costs, they are more on the "not needed in parties" category along with Warsmiths (Sorry to all the WS's out there - At least you can make $ crafting).
Soloing for OL past 68 is hard going... Up to 68 you can do well on group mobs but even still, you use a LOT of MP. I'd rather wait hours looking for a potential group than solo because when I party (even a not-so-good one), xp is 10x better than me soloing. After 68, the difference in the other classes is too much to keep up with...
In order to use OLs advantage, its best to use what they have like AoE Roots - popular because of being able to use in Ranged or Mage parties (no heals when mobs rooted so saving MP of other rechargers/buffers).
The main problem is people see OL as a "buffer" class and most replies I get are "sorry, we already have a buffer". We are SO much more than a buffer but since we are a mixed class (not a real "DD" or "buffer") if they need a DD or buffer, they would rather have that actual class character. We will never be as good as an actual DD/Buffer.
I expect I'll get "sympathy" parties from clannies until I hit 75 and do sub-class... I'm waiting to see what new changes are actually going to be in CT1 that may "fix" some of these problems...
As a lvl 73 OL I can tell you that the bestt use in a party is as crowd control. No other toon in the game can sleep faster or with more consistancy than my OL. I admit the AOEs don't land nearly as much as they should but AOE root has pulled more than one group from the edge of a party wipe. Heart is an awesome back up heal for when the main healer if getting low on mana.
In my humble opinion there is no better pvp toon than a Dominator. I've taken out uber S grade archers more than once (SOUL GUARD FTW). Most archers have low mdef making my drains all that much more powerful.
Also as pointed out before, OLs are the only mage besides buffers that a pole party will ever need.
Tuar, you are right OLs are the single best Crowd Control toon out there. The thing is that most of the time, if you're not wading hip deep in bad guys, or climbing in over your head, other people don't get to see what you're capable of. My clan knows what OLs can do, I've saved them form wiping on multiple occasions, and they appreciate it. It doesn't make the grind too much easier, and it doesn't make finding groups easier. When CT1 comes kiss Ally groups goodbye.

That S grader must have been poor, if he had had cp pots you couldnt have done it. Unless its a PR I guess, low cp amount could net you a win against that one without getting oom.
Soul Guard + Steal Essence = out of mana in no time.
Tried that. CP pot spam beats any damage source shorter then a nuklear blast (archer crits, nukers, dagger specials).
And just remember one thing: going through someones CP does not give back any HP. If someone can keep up and press the CP macro (simple CP pot + Greater CP pot almost at no time) fast enough (or just use Nostromo) you'll be left with just one option: smash him with a stick at -8 Str, at low attack speed, with almost no run speed as you are being nuked and arrowed.
Given the experience I got from the few fights I tried to be a "DD" I'd rather go and try to fear or sleep. Even with Mental Shield it's a way better form of PvP support from OLs side (I do not take into concideration situations where you are being ganked and have no CP pots...)

Hmm, have none of the healers you've played with got trance? EE/Bishop trance is a heck of alot faster casting than dreaming spirit, plus with their higher int lands more.
The changes to dreaming spirit when they nerfed sleep did help alot, and we can do decent CC with it, but not the best.
AOE crowd control is good, but not amazing as you must strike a balance between mana for buffs and crowd control meaning you're stuck mainly to sleeping adds and using root for drastic times.

OL has never been FOTM, or there'd be more of them about. As I said above, AOE root is too costly to keep using for crowd control, I've tried it in many mage groups and it simply costs too much to keep up and buff at the same time.
i play with a dreadnought a lot and i am positive that he can destroy everything singlehandedly without me there. he parties me because overlord in my opinion is useful as an insurance policy... he doesnt take much dmg, but lets say he sets up wrong...chaos and winter both help a bit.
but polers for the most part, dont need ol at all.
And what pull skills do OLs have? 0_o
Seals? Drain? Pat on the shoulder? I'm sorry, but have you ever actually tried to pull with an ork mystic? We can't out run anything faster then golems, we're low HP (in comparison to warrior-types), low p.def (soul guard helps, yes). Polers are far better on there own with pulling trains.
I use my OneOnOne Frost spell I learned pre 40. It is enough to pull just like an arrow and it is cheap.
Hit the right mop, you get a whole lot of friends to come too.
Pulling with frost spell is a bit of a bad idea, because the initial thing you do when you get a mob's attention has a great aggro bonus, so it's best to let the tank do the first bit of damage.
Except when I'm alone, but when I'm alone I body pull because 2-3 mobs = death.
Interesting. Even in Mart, this has served us well for a long time. Soul Guard and a few good polers will keep you ok. Besides, it makes it a bit of fun when your poler gets lazy and sits there for a few. Get everyone up and working, thats the ticket.
yeah zhan i do the same thing in discip :) wl pulls 2-3 rooms, he runs to spot while im grabbing another room and we meet up at same time and his mass hitting draws all hte aggro every time regardless
