Ive not been active in a previous Medal event... however i would expect the drop rate to offer at least the POSSIBILITY of earning one of the higher rewards..
I am currently getting around 10 an hour of solid grinding.. 5 hours a day for the event= 700 by the end of it. that teh sux!!
Just wondered what drop rates everyone else is getting.. im always suspecting im getting screwed sideways lol

The drop rate is (or at least recently was) dependant on various factors, such as of course your kill speed, the time of day, the amount of people in your location and a few others that are unknown.
While this is absolutely ******ed, that's how it works. Hunting in the right spot might net you a higher reward.
On the other hand, the medals are tradable. That's how it all works out I guess - it's not a solo game after all.

tip:
AOE.
shush your ruining for others let him figure it out. :p
I'd make a baby nuker alt (elf if you can get recharges) for best results, but that's just me. Or you could buy the medals, make a huge profit and snicker. :p
Perhaps I'm just lucky, but at level 59, hunting white and yellow mobs, my drop rate is 50%. So, if you are hunting green/blue, perhaps that is part of the problem.

Actually a nuker wouldn't be the best way to go. If you're not going to AOE, then an archer would be the next best bet. Here are the ingredients:
- LE or DE scout/assassin. Must be at least level 20. Don't bother with humans, they are too slow.
- Buffpet or L2Day buff scrolls
- Mith robes for more mp and +7 footspeed (most should already have this set in WH or know someone who does)
- +3 LXbow or higher
- Field mobs near any of the lowbie villages. In most places you'll find at least one mob that is a one-shot kill. It helps if the mobs drop herbs, so mana will not be an issue.
- dss
- +2 DEX (optional), which increases your movement and attack speed. Every little bit helps
Now take all of this and mix. After about an hour of hunting last night, I had just over 200 regular medals, and about 30 of the glittering ones to sell.
EDIT: By the way, I'm not advocating going out and buying all of this equipment for the event if you don't already have it. I don't want to discourage any noobs who may not have the resources yet. You can still participate and cash in on this event, whether you farm enough medals for the prizes, or sell them.

There is no penalty for hunting greens. I've been hunting greens, whites, yellows, some light blues, and the medals dropped at a good rate for me.
Drop rate has been great for me. The girlfriend and I have been using some mid-30s alts and got 900 medals and 50 glittering in about 5-6 hours of play. The key is finding a place with a nice fast respawn rate. An area with a lot of mobs in a small area is best. And we use melee toons. Nukers and archers are OK but you spend all that time running over to your medals to pick them up. With a melee, the medals drop at your feet. ;)

Isn't that like Six of One, Half a Dozen of another? As melee you have to run to mob to fight. So run first, or after; either way, all characters have to get to the mob, or the mob to them.
i could have guess that most of the ones with drop problems weren't last year when the drop rate was really bad just like your feeling now i can say the drop rate this time is sweet.
there are 6 places that i know of and i can say that 4 of them have a good drop rate. all that is needed is patience buffs and priorities but since most ppl want to keep them for themself i say good hunting for all.
and like a Hammered said....

Is not your account, its the mobs or time of the day.
This is a stupid, stupid quote.
I've been on at ALL times of the day and night and if you can't get medals you just suck.
6am est....10am est....3pm est....6pm est....8pm est....11pm est....3 am est
= exact same drop rate.
The problem is that you have no feakin idea what you're doing!
Get a level 30, 31, 32 orc, dwarf or warrior to be and AOE (area of effect) with like a +4 Glaive in Abandoned camp. With +3 brig you can pull at LEAST half of the camp and kill everything you pull in like 3-5 swings. No buffs, no ghps, no party.....solo!
I got 200 in a couple hours.
Quit whining about "time of day drop rates" and how they are "unfair" to ________(fill in the blank--euros, south africans, australians, pacific islanders).
Obviously during my times of play it had to be reasonable hours SOMETIME in your time zone. Learn to play the game and stop whining.

In other words, you don't feel mobs, or time of day matters, and the fellow who thought otherwise should be subjected to your verbal abuse. Uh, someone may need to get out more :)

It would be but you'll also see that I said to find a place where there are a lot of mobs in a confined space. I have stumbled across just such a place where there are about 12 mobs that you will pull with one well placed Aggression. There are no real corners to pull to and nowehere to kite without getting more aggro. A PK and an assassin plough through the mobs though. We have OOP VR if we want to level but can equally drop the higher level SE into party to slow down the XP and stay in range of the mobs for longer.
Time to delevel the assassin a bit, now that he has his skills. ;)
Well for me killing 2x HP l73-l76 mobs the drop rate is terrible. Get about one every 10 to 20 kills. I've tried catas as well. A bit better but still terrible.
Making an alt doesn't quite cut it though since at higher levels you get more from drops and adena. But would still like to make most out of it. Anyone has decent medal drops at levels 73-78?
The drop rate is randomly variable across the mobs....it's not timed to rise and fall with a clock--why would NCSoft even take the trouble to DO that (and what clock would they use)?
You could kill the same mob 100x and get essentially the same drop rate as killing 100 mobs 1x--it would just take you longer to kill the same mob 100x while you waited for it to respawn.
The time of day doesn't matter. The random incidence of the mob you are killing having an item to drop matters. Ergo--kill more mobs as absolutely fast as you can.
3 of us were at one point killing almost all the mobs in Pavel Central per pull--medals fell like rain. The group broke up and I came back a half hour later and killed 20 mobs and got 2 medals. It's not the 'time of day'---it's the #mobs that die per minute.
So I'll say it again, granting I was way too harsh earlier, learn to play the game (as it IS--not as you want it to be).
And for all you math whizzes out there:
If I go out at 10 am and kill 50 mobs and get 5 medals....then go out at 8pm and kill 100 mobs and get 8 medals...have I sampled enough to absolutely assert that medals drop fastest at 10am?
The answer is "no you have not". For all you know both of your points of study were abnormal. And if you added 2 or 3 more to the 'study' in my example it wouldn't change a thing. If you got 20 medals for 60 mobs at 2am it would not tell you that the drop rates were somehow weighted to be optimum at 2am your time. It would tell you that your best outcome happened to be at 2am in a random event--and that 2am could be the irregular variation and not at all what anyone else experienced. Point being--you could then hunt every morning at 2am and never again see that 1 to 3 ratio of medals to mobs cause it was a fluke in the first place.
In the past this exact same event has had the medal drops lowered during 'non primetime' (US Prime time that is) and IIRC it was an effort by NC to give more medals to players and less to the automated.... It was VERY noticeable and you could indeed set your watch by the increase/decrease in drop rate. (Personally I don't see how it affected the automated at all just seemed to affect non-US legit players)
I play outside of US prime time and seem to be doing alot better this event compared to last medal event. (getting about 30 medals per buff round with a lvl 38 Dwarf and a little AoE action)
I believe this is what the initial query was about - does this event have lowered drop rate outside of US prime time? TBH I don't know as I don't play those times and for all I know if I was doing the exact same thing during US prime maybe I'd be getting 100 medals per buff round.... From what has been posted though it seems that the drop rate is not affected by US prime time. But the only people that can answer that with certainty are the ones that have access to the code. Those that somehow manage to control vast numbers of characters for extensive lengths of continuous time might have an idea too as their 'sample' of the event drop rate is much greater than a human can possibly achieve.
Yes the drop rate is random and hence the more mobs you kill the more medals you are likely to get. This is why I have specific characters for these kill rate events. HOWEVER in the past it was random AND affected by the time of day. Your odds of getting medals did decrease outside of US prime time. - Regardless of if you knew how to play or not :p
drakkos things hes mr smart... sigh
I was in the same field i was in 8 hours earlier. i based my judgement that drop rate was higher at 2am on medals/hour. my killrate was identical, mob rates were identical. at 3pm GMT i got like 10 an hour. 2am GMT (american prime time) i got around 60/h
If you mix this all up, shake and stir, it sure sounds like it isn't mob, or time of day specific, but more like population related. If you are not obtaining decent medal drops, try a completely different area that may have less players, and see if that helps.
