If L2 was the same as it is now except that only one of the currently existing classes would be available to players, which class would you want it to be?
And herbs (both emp and acumen herbs drop pretty often). Non-pet shots are a problem, though, unless we make them questable or add shop/craftshop NPCs.
Hmm, I think it would have to be one of the summoners or buffers. Everything else is simply not self-sustaining enough. Prolly a summoner.
I'm thinking more like Summoner or SH. A WC could do it up until low 60s in Heavy Armor. Probably same for a Prophet. Howevere, I'm thinking after that, places like VoS/FoD would be too much for even one of those.
If L2 had only one class... that wouldn't be L2, right?
It doesn't really make sense.
What if characters would be deleted upon death? (even in PvP)
What if every second there would be a very little chance for you character to explode in fireworks (and die) without any reason whatsoever?
What if instead of playing characters we'd play pets? Which one would you play?
Ok... If L2 had only one class... I wouldn't play it. Does it answer the question appropriately? ;)
C Grade summoner > unbuffed A Grade warsmith tbh. :p
I could try it out, I guess. So far, in self-buffed PvP, I can take out most other classes, true summoners excluded (**** Betray ...), if only because I can easily carry 2000+ GCP pots and some 100ths of QHPs pots to add on it. With two or three levels of equipment difference? No idea. After all, a summoner's summon is his equipment ...

Summoner, esp, the Warlock, a.k.a., "The Cat Daddy", would be my pick. Send fast moving, hard hitting summons to kill things. You pick up drops, read a book, watch a DVD, email friends, knit a sweater or shop audiogon for that after-market Krell amp that you've been dying to buy while the summons play. And if everyone was a summoner, what fun PVP would be! :D
Seriously, the summoners are an all in one party, so by default they trump the proposition of only choosing one. That spells win in my book.
Summoner is the only class self sufficient enough, warlock has a clear edge there also since they get better self buffs for their cats.
WC is the only other viable option, though you would have to spend a fortune in potions and BSOEs for when things get ugly.
Spellhowlers. No doubt. They are the most efficient when it comes to mana and they deal the highest, most consistent damage without buffs. You can pvp, pve, raid... everything with SHs. Tanking/ healing/ buffing is going to suck... but hey, it's not impossible.
Hey that's a good point, how would you get crystals for the cats if there were no WS's? Other than blowing junk up but that would be hard to keep up with the crystal use I think...
The origin of the question was something like: "if we balance all the classes in L2, wouldn't they become a single class?"
Err... no?
Even if it were a Bishop with Transfer Pain and Death Spike? ;)
Oh pweez devs! I wanna Transfer Pain and Death Spike on my Bishooooooop!
In the case there were only Bishops and they had TP and DS, not only I wouldn't play L2, but I would take as an outrage from the world and I would spit at people in the street to make the world pay.
"- I Transfer Pain to my... my... my wolf?
Your pet is dead. You have 20 minutes to resurrect it before it decays.
- ... but... I wasn't even hit!"
Actually, a question about which skillset for a single class can create diverse groups just by different players' different voluntary choice of how to play their toon can be still valid.
