Official Poll: Zaken's Curse

General Discussion Started Last reply 53 posts
Thanks to your efforts in curing the Cursed Pigs and gathering Zaken's pilfered treasure, Little Bonny was able to quell her grandfather Zaken's vengeful soul. Now that all rewards have been sent out, we'd love to hear what you thought about this event. Did you enjoy it? Please place your votes below and reply in this thread with specific comments to let us know your thoughts. Thank you!
For future events, please oh please stop with the enchant scrolls and give out something new :) (no hair dyes, facelift pots either)

And so began the reign of Thread
I think I agree. Rewards were easy to get, but are becoming commonplace, both with L2 scrolls and Enchant scrolls.

I am in favor of giving them out with events, but currently my server is very highly saturated with them. As I have no plans to use them (I give the buffers in my clan/alliance a job that way, you see), I sell them. As it is, I have an alt with nothing but L2 and enchant scrolls in the warehouse waiting for prices to start recovering.

Just a thought, though. I do not mean to sound like I am complaining.

Oh, and this might be more of a personal note, but I found that after about an hour or so I couldn't stand to hunt the pigs any more.
I think it was good idea that pigs could be cured only 3 hours per day. It really gave fair chance to everyone to get maximum form this event. But for me it was too long - after this 14 days of constant pig hunting, i have had enough. I couldn't exp during the event, because i rarely play more then 3 hours per day - and all this time I devoted to pigs.
I do appreciate the rewards very much - though i didn't get the circlet during event :( but the first mate hat was great amend! thanks for event very much.

Oh, and this might be more of a personal note, but I found that after about an hour or so I couldn't stand to hunt the pigs any more.

Though I thought the event was the right length (to give everyone a chance) there was a point when I hit "saturation" and needed to do something else.
well, an event that gave our wedding attire, quest items like the stuff you use for aden bingo or warehouse keeper medals.

some variety, you know. perhaps the chance at a Black ore Jewellery set, or the chance at a no-drop-notrade unique +20 shadow weapon.

even an event that gave out soul ore.
I'd rather have an event giving out mats in small quantities than handing out the amount of enchant scrolls we now have, so yeah Sov, thread would be good. I could mass-produce kitty ears and formal wear then ^^

Come CT1, people will notice how MUCH enchants there is really around when they become stackable and you see toon X sell 2546 EWD and 1343456 EAD while toon Y sells the same plus 5642 EWC and 45313 EAC. And the toons dont stop at X and Y, they go all the way to YMCA ;)

Personally, having around 1k+ enchant scrolls is a bit much, and I'm not even the biggest enchant hoarder.
Allow the golden apiga to be moved within an account and give a reward for them. The reward can be fixed to an account/player like Shadow items.
It was a good event and very original. I was lucky enough to get a HG LS 64 and a Silver circlet with my last two x 50 apiga. I still have the circlet but managed to sell the stone and its enabled me to buy sls duals.
I would welcome this event again but either time it to avoid a free trial to prevent trial bots or, if the event is to encourage trialists, please make sure the GMs are very active in removing the bots. Bot infestation was the only real downer of the event.
I have way too many enchant D scrolls.... all I wanted was a lousy pig wranglers hat..I didnt even get higher than 1 set of enachant b's. I do agree though...WAY too many EW's and EA scrolls on the servers now.
The event was exploitable for profit which is BAD by any standard.

Rest was oke.

Change the rewards to something that makes it not profitable and I might give a better review.
The event was alright, I'm fine with L2day scrolls & enchants, but I would like to see something different.

And please, for the love of all that is good in this land.
Tell me why they didn't make Buff scrolls stackable with the others. What the heck were they thinking?

I destroyed my "l2 Event scrolls" from the pig event, because No one buys them(since everyone has 59283650784650783 of them). & my Wh's are still full from the Enchants(that don't stack((yet)) and other buff scrolls.
if this event happened again what i would like to see is for starters some xp - not much maybe in the order of 10% of the xp you would get from a normal 1x hp mob your lvl
and secondly maybe reduce the 3 bows per day (3 hours) to only 1, call me crazy but even 1 hour a day would drive me mad
i like the event, but i wish the attack speed of the bow was higher and it didn't take so many hits to have killed the pig.
next think about time increasing the attack speed or lowering the pigs hp so take about 5 hit and not 10 to kill it. i also liked the idea not to be allow to use buffs. it did make the event fair.
I liked the fact that everyone could compete, regardless of class and level. My buffer could kill a pig just as easily as my destroyer, just as easily as my dwarf, etc.

... and you see toon X sell 2546 EWD and 1343456 EAD while toon Y sells the same plus 5642 EWC and 45313 EAC. And the toons dont stop at X and Y, they go all the way to YMCA ;)

Not entirely true, they'll sell only few of them. Just stand and restock immediately after you buy some ;)

Event was excellent, I got fed with of pork at the end, but it was worth it. I had option to avoid event (like not every mob drops items) or participate. Great it did not give advantyage to any archer classes, just runspeed was determining factor.
Excellent work on getting rid of automatons.
I felt that I could better spend my time getting xp instead of participating in the event in hopes of an impossible reward since my time was limited. I could not nor would not devote three hours a day hunting for the golden apiga. The buffs were nice but I could get them from - myself as a prophet or from the clan hall. If the piggies dropped other things than just the apiga, that would have been nice as well. I did feel like this should have been a Valentine event.

I have to admit, playing this for three years plus - this was a nice change of an event. Good try for effort on this one. Keep em coming - it is what I have to look forward to to break up the grind now and then.

I liked the fact that everyone could compete, regardless of class and level. My buffer could kill a pig just as easily as my destroyer, just as easily as my dwarf, etc.

This was a big plus for me too.

All in all, I enjoyed this event. But the amount of D scrolls given was frustrating. Though on the up side, I have a lot of D crystals now :D (And a +7 elven ring :p).
lag the servers more
the event was really funny and I like the fact that you could choose if you want to play the event or not, many choose not to play, I did play it non stop the 1st week, 3 hours on my buffer and 3 hours on my dwarf until I got tired and had like 10 bows on each toon :p the golden apigas were not impossible to get if you knew how to time the golden piggy
Great event! Nice rewards and it was fun to shoot both pigs and people ;) Just a couple of things worth mentioning.

Make the event shorter or limit the number of bows to 1 or maybe 2 per day instead of 3. Shooting pigs for 3 hours a day for 14 days is wayyyyyy too much work :p

The pirate booty was tradable. Not good. It turned the competition into a money making business. Some of the hat winners probably never even shot a golden pig.

The event advert was missing important information regarding the fact that the rare event reward item was non-trade/non-drop. In earlier event adverts it has alway been clearly stated if there was such an item. Because of this I ended up with my reward on an alt I didn't want to use it on. But thanks to the wonderful support service I got the reward moved to my main. Many thanks for that!

Thank you for bringing us this wonderful event! :)
I wish the first mates hat only took up 1 accesory spot. Can use an eyepatch along with it then.

^^
All around great event IMO, you always got something even if it was a "lame" buff scroll, and the caster/figher buffs were a nice bonus IMO. I had very, very little playing time but I still got some sweet stuff.
Good event overall.

Pirate booty was tradable, should not be that way next time. Only toons which killed the golden pigs themselves should be eligible for the "big" reward.

Apiga rewards other than the circlets and pig wrangler hat were a bit boring, enchant scrolls are nice to have but they are handed out as rewards in just about EVERY event... (even in the medal one we have right now...). I liked the raid boss event which gave base mats - everybody needs them. Or maybe make an event in which you can get random recipes (like x event items gives a D grade one, 2*x gives a C grade one, etc.)

What was really good was that everybody, no matter class or level, had the same pig killing speed. That was an awesome idea, because many other events can be easily "dominated" if you have a class with a high kill speed (like pole/aoe nuke, or just "good at soloing" compared to a support class which cannot solo and has to party with somebody else). I would like to see this in more events.
Personally I liked the event and thought it was a great effort. I didn't mind getting the enchant scrolls but do look forward to them being stackable. It would be nice however to have more variety in the event rewards as enchants seem to be the norm. I didn't get a circlet or pig wranglers hat :( which would have been nice. I find the buffs scrolls of great help as I don't always have access to good buffs like alot of people do. Making the booty non-tradeable but freightable would have been good. And I would have made more of an effort to get more Golden if I was not under the impression that only the TOP collectors would get the reward. - Seems I missed out on the hat by just a few goldens....

The one thing I would have liked to see is bonny sticking around for a little longer after the event so as I could have made more use of the event buffs which were a great help for hunting. I think I wasted over 40 hours of buffs just turning in the apiga's near event end and would really liked to have used them more.

And I too though the efforts to control the automated was really good. Thumbs up there :) and I hope those efforts are just the beginning of removing them from all area's of the game.

I look forward to the next time I can get some more pork on my fork and hopefully get a hat.

Make the event shorter or limit the number of bows to 1 or maybe 2 per day instead of 3. Shooting pigs for 3 hours a day for 14 days is wayyyyyy too much work

You know you don't HAVE to use all the bows you get. You can stop whenever you get tired of it.
I know it's hard to stop, even when you can't stand looking at another pig :p

I like the idea, that you can choose to spend more event items for better rewards. Even if that means a higher number of "junk" items (D scrolls/buff scrolls/50 rice cakes :p) or a chance to get higher grade scrolls/life stones or whatever they choose to give out.

Not entirely true, they'll sell only few of them. Just stand and restock immediately after you buy some ;)

I'm talking about normal players here ;) I have around 1k+ enchant scrolls, while some that I know bought so much apiga that they have literally overfilled all their alts with enchants.

No matter how you look at it, but the demand for enchant scrolls isnt so high as to even remotely match the coming supply once CT1 launches. It was quite easy to saturate the enchant market already, but now they're making it even easier.
I rated it poor in terms of how it was run.

The communication from Ncsoft to their customer base was EXTREMLY poor, we all pretty much gave our booty to one person so they would try get the "1" hat we heard was being given out, then it ends out people with basicly 50 got one, utter BS really.

100% bot event, always were everywhere didnt get banned. Screwed the EW market really

Prehaps in the future give us some GM interaction, you know what might have been good? a MASSIVE HUGE [censored] 100k HP pig spawned in GIRAN whcih dropped something good? would have actually been fun etc to do something like that
Yeah I agree with Shamul, this event allowed me to catch up on my XP time. I did 1 full day of bows, all i got was Buff Scrolls, and they dont sell for crap on my Server. So i used this event where everyone was out hunting pigs to gain XP.

Know a person who hunted the full event 3 bows, 2 weeks straight and all he got was EW-C & EA-C's for the top and a hell of alot of EAD's.

If this event is done again, I'd like to see you get base mats out of it - not Buff scrolls and Enchants. Sure EW B and A's are good but enough with the EAD & EAC's, I have enough of those from the past events.

100% bot event, always were everywhere didnt get banned. Screwed the EW market really

Not to mention the Buff scrolls, and EA market, and the Hair Accessory Market.
With sympathy to people who use them as sources of income, I don't think it's a bad thing that prices for consumables goes down. Buff scrolls, enchants, etc. could be really low in price and the economy would still run ok, since the really rare stuff is recipes n mats.

Meta-comment: I think it's good this thread and poll were made. It gives us kind of a feeling that they are listening to us, regardless what action they take. Since the feedback is so mixed, you can't expect them to do what each one of us would like, but at least we got some input.

I thought the pigs were good, easy and accessible to all players with no risk. My son did most of the pig hunting. He's long had desires to get something started on Lionna and now if he/we do, there's about 700k there for us.

(edit typo)

I also seemed to miss out on just a few goldens which I would of happily farmed harder for/bought if I knew practically everyone with 40+ goldens would of got a hat.

That's the only part that really sucked for me. Otherwise great event IMO.

Well look at it this way - what would have happened if they told everybody right from the start "if you have 40 golden apigas, you will get the hat"?

Yes, everybody would have made sure to have exactly 40 golden apigas. People within clans would have traded the pirate booty around, and practically everybody would have had the hat. As it is now, the first mate hat is, well not rare, but uncommon. Only people who did not "give up" got one (and of course those who just slaughtered pigs to the max time allowed every day in a private spot where they just happened to get all the golden pigs). So right now it actually is a real "reward" - those who just said to themselves "well I will never get one" became victims to that self-fulfilling prophecy.
Wonderful event and I don't care if the servers get overloaded with enchants and buff scrolls (well the buffers would cry). There is more than one way to play the market.

The booty was another story. Once I found out they can be traded I hunted golden pigs on a TH in places with lots of aggro. I then transferred the booty to the toon that I wanted to wear the hat.

Oh yeah, this event was 3 bows/per account/per day/PER SERVER.

I feel sorry for ppl who bought like 200mil worth of Pirate's Booty, when pretty much everyone got the First Mate's Hat ;) You know who you are....
personally i think they need to flood the market with higher grade enchant scrolls like they have done with all the low grade scrolls... it has gotten to the point where i was so ****** off when i got another set of encant d's. i think it would be funny if b/a/s scrolls got to that point! :P

for future events more high grade rewards... less low grade please! <3
At least give BLESSED ENCHANT SCROLLS frm the events FFS
Thanks for a great event! I especially liked the fighter/mage buffs....I can't tell you how much easier it made leveling my dwarf from 34 to 40. I'd like to see these buffs on more events! The prizes were great too...I have no complaints about those. I agree with a previous poster....keep Bonny around longer next time. And it really was nice that any level could participate and receive rewards that they could use right away....those buffs! :) Loved the head gear also... nice treat. :)
it attracted way to meny bots i rearly saw a real person shooting the pigs but over all good event if there were less bots to spoil the fun
As before, I'll give my feedback and reasons for my answers.

It was a little long.
If they weren't in towns or sitting outside of my clan hall I may not have minded. But because they were, I felt the event went on too long. Hearing the cute giggle is OK for the first 24 hours, then it becomes annoying.

I participated.
You have to really, don't you :)

I just skimmed the story to get to the details.
Not really an option here for "I read it but didn't make me want to participate any more than I did".

They were not worth the effort and time.
Nope. Bored of enchants. If they gave acu/haste pots then maybe.

I was able to gather event items/find pigs too easily.
If you missed them you need to come out of your catacomb for a few seconds you hermit.

Unlikely
No thanks. Anything which keeps me from playing the game I'd probably avoid anyway.

Not a moan, just an explanation of my choices.
I enjoyed the event. yes the market on enchant weopon and armor scrolls went down. but thats good to have every now and again for buyers with no cash.---->me. lol
i never used the scrolls, which i feel that portion of awards could have changed.
I feel a minimum xp award for time would have been nice.
I do feel the time the event went on was right on target, but i agree with the time limit with the bows could have been a bit shorter. I feel automated players lucked out with this event better then the live players, because of the amount of time they could camp their bots. drop it down to about 2 bows with only thirty minutes on them and that might change some.

friggin awsome awards with the buffs! it was nice to get something for your time.

i really liked the event ecomnomy oppurtunity as well. if you needed cash..sell apiga. or your awards.

I felt the wranglers hat should have a bit higher drop rate, not like the demon horns and mask mind you. (forget the name of the event)
20 a server would still be pretty rare.

altogether one of the best events ive seen.
Answering each poll question here, as the questions don't always ask what they need to in the poll.

What did you think about the duration of the event?

Ok, there are two parts to this given the way the event was setup.

1)The actual days for the event. (2 Weeks)
And to me this event was one week too long, by way of reason #2.

2)Duration each day. (3 Hours)
Because bows were setup such that you could only do 3 hours per day, and the rate at which you could kill the various pigs was so slow, and the spawn rate of the golden pigs was a bit awkward, the event pretty much derailed any normal leveling I might have done. So as not to 'miss out' on any rewards, for the two weeks the event was going it was pretty much kill pigs...and it got old enough fast, that I played less, but when I did it was still just killing pigs.

As it was the event was more 'disruptive' than it was 'fun' or 'relaxing'. And the 'music' and 'sounds' for the event were extremely irritating...I had to turn sound OFF to avoid insanity during the event.

If you didn't participate in the event, what was your reason?

I participated...but the more I played the less I wanted to due to the severely 'measured' rate of pig killing, and the obnoxious sounds. As it was I didn't go through 1/2 the potential bows I could have had, having to quit due to the event' wearing me out'.

What did you think of the background story/lore of the event?

Story? There was a story? Jeez, OK so there was some sort of story, but I completely ignored it as it was silly considering this was just a re-branded Valentines Day event (From Korea) shoehorned in outside the 'holiday' it was made for.

What did you think about the rewards for this event?

There were essentially two rewards given.

1)Buffs when you turned in Apiga. These were completely wasted for me, as all I did was turn around and kill more pigs..and the buffs were completely useless for that. And 'saving' the turn in was couterintuitive considering you wanted the rewards, not 'save them until you were going out to hunt normal mobs'.

2)Event Scrolls, Enchants and Misc items.
Too few higher level enchants for me...Sure I'll take and use all the D & C enchants I can get (Army of alts and helping a friend start...) but honestly I need B and A grade enchants FAR more. And since I never have cash to buy them at the prices in town, events are about the only way I get them. I got one set of B enchants, a single L76 life stone (My max char is L61!) and a 2 to 1 ratio of D and C enchant pairs.

I got absolutely NO event hats or bow. For me this was the biggest disappointment, as every minute I spent in game for those two weeks was done killing pigs, but I never got enough Golden Apiga for a hat, nor did I get any items as a drop.

What did you think about the event item drop rate during the event?

If the pigs dropped anything other than apiga I *never* got it. I only got the 'bonus apiga + fireworks' event after killing a pig twice as well. And since I got nothing else, I would consider it too low given the amount of time I spent on the pigs....if by chance you needed to kill *normal* mobs to get them to drop, the design of the event should have had bows not be time limited and pigs only spawning after killing regular mobs!

Would you participate in an event like this again?

As much as I can tolerate it if it shows up again...although I make no garauntees and I reserve the right to whine outrageously while the event is running...
Great Event, maybe the best 1 yet. Bots ruined it tho, they were everywere. Nxt time Dont spawn pigs in safe zones IE Hunters Village.
Great event that left me with little concern for adena for a while.
I got so fed up with pigs at moments that I simply had to stop playing all together :p.
The thing I liked best is everyone that spent several 100m adena to buy golden apigas and in the end almost everyone got the hat...even with only 20 golden apigas.
i dont know why everyone is complaining about the enchant scrolls... personally i'm a new player and to be able to get a decent weapon, nevermind about enchanting it is hard enough. now i have a decent weapon to hunt with. and better pdef.

as far as the golden apiga, i sold all of them because i didn't think i could compete with the people that have 5 accounts. i wish it was more informed. they made it sound like THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! highlander-esque

and i loved the buff scrolls... i'd like more of those if possible.
Right, I didn't even open a bunch of booty because I thought there was no way I could complete with people that had even 100 golden apiga, then to find out later that I could have gotten something with 40 or so.. well that was kind of bogus.

The numbers were most likely based on some sort of percentage. Meaning if everyone held on to their golden apigas then the threshold for giving out the reward hat would have been higher. But I'm just guessing here. Also if I had known the 40 mark or so I'd have just enough on every toon to get one. As it stood, I banked on one toon getting one so I put it all on her.
oops. double post.

Kind of the same problem here. I wasn't going to bother, but then when I decided to open them, they were gone (I would have had way more than enough). Never realized they were going to make them disappear from the inventory a whole week before the official count. Can't always get my news from the forum. They need to go back to in game announcements when they make that kind of decision (when you login). None of that was explained on the official event page. Event pages need to be a lot more specific. That has always been something lacking on the site.

Anyways, I just called it a loss and moved on. It's just a hat afterall.
On September 4th, NCSoft announced that the Zaken's Curse prize (First Mate's Hat) was distributed to winners. But just how many winners received the hat?

NCSoft confirmed that each server has 100 lucky winners..who can be seen sporting the hat! Interested in seeing what they look like? Check out this article (the source of this news) complete with a screenshot of the hat!

I wanna sell mine T_T Cat ears and demon mask > pirate hat.
