As you all may have noticed, Stratics has never really been particular fast, nor has it been very stable. This is all about to change as Stratics is going to get a massive overhaul in the form of a cluster of new powerful servers, all aimed to provide better service to you all :)
The servers will be taken down on Friday Morning and should hopefully be back online Saturday morning (could stretch into the day though).
Even though the sites, forums and boards will be down, the IRC server will not be. This is a great opportunity for you to pop in and chat with your fellow posters in a real time environment.
If you haven't used IRC yet, it's pretty simple.
To connect to Stratics IRC, first boot up your favorite IRC client. Trillian has an IRC client, as does Mozilla and Firefox, or you can download MIRC from Downloads.com
Once your client has been started, access one of the follow Stratics servers by typing /server irc.stratics.com:
stratics.frws.com - USA - Colorado
stratics.afraidyet.net - USA - Dallas
irc.glowfish.de - EU - Germany
irc.gamers-irc.org - USA - Colorado
irc.us.glowfish.de - USA - St. Louis
From there, you can join our Lineage II channel #lineage2 simply by typing in "/join #lineage2" without the ""
Stratics has lots of channels, so yeah our own network is pretty needed. Especially for special set up for House of Common chats which for some titles like WoW can draw up to 2000 people.
yanno i hate to be a wet blanket here but Alyra set up the fan site news forum for a reason....so that announcements like these had their own area. Why double post it both places...its just annoying
This is because its an announcement of a different magnitude, it isn't just a feature, a guide or anything, its the whole site going down, which is something important enough to get out to as many people as possible as large portion of L2 players use Stratics.
DNS servers are taking longer than expected to spread out the new IPs, I'll be sure to bring up this issue to see if thats the issue for you or if the database isn't set up properly.
Updated news, the sites are now up and running and shouldn't experience any more issues, the forums are being worked on next. (which doesn't really affect L2 much, since our forums aren't used much).
And now the Stratics servers have been full moved and upgraded. We expect no further issues (other than a short downtime in the future as we update the program backend).
I hope you enjoy the new very fast Stratics :)
We can pretty much all thank eachother for these new upgrades, as L2 Stratics and its mass amount of visitors are what made this upgrade possible in this fashion :)
Thanks everyone and I hope you'll like what we have dished up for you in the future, with the new servers/backend, we can do so many things which has just been sitting on a list on my desk.
What on earth happened to the new FAST Stratics. It is now slower than it ever was. Tried using two different ISPs. Put it back on the old hardware please. ;)
The site itself didn't get moved, there was a huge series of issues arising that meant we had to do a vast number of core upgrades before we can move to the new servers.
Try and check out the forums, they are running on the new servers, there you can get a little taste of how fast it is.
The site move itself is nearing completion, all the core systems have been upgraded, the site has been fixed to work properly on the new system and it should actually be ready to be switched before this week is over.
After this is done, there should be no more slowdowns and stability issues caused by our massive traffic on the comparably small server.
i've said it before but here goes again
i don't really care how slow stratics is as long as it's accessible as much as posible
Well, the same thing should aliviate that problem too...Stratics has long buckled under the traffic load, so in certain periods it would be very hard to access it. That will now change to a very high uptime and it should eliminate the stability issues.
And finally the site was successfully moved over. It should now be smooth and have full uptime for everyone. No more sporatic downtime and very slow pageloading :)
