I've heard destroyers are getting reaaaaaaaaally nerfed with next update, is this correct? I've tried to find info about it but without success. Dont mind the nerf part unless it ruins the class totally
Thinking about leveling one up, gotta love using heavy armor and big two handed weapons :)
I don't know the details, but I've heard you only get the VR effect of a certain number of mobs. i.e if your being hit by 10 mobs, only 3 will give you health back with VR... thats an example, not set figures, and as I said, only what I have heard.
Someone may be able to correct/clarify what I've said.
when you are poling with VR you get degraded lvls of vr back for each additional mob you hit
e.g
currently if you hit 10 mobs each for 1k damage (and say vr gives 10% hp) you would get 100 hp back for each mob for a total of 1k per swing
in CT each additional mob you hit will give 50% less hp than the last so
if you hit 10 mobs for 1k (and say vr is 10% hp) the first mob will give 100 hp the next will give 50 the next will give 25 etc, so hitting 10 mobs will result in more like 200 hp being returned from vr
on top of that you can no longer leech the full effect of vr from a mob that dies during that swing
e.g
if you hit a mob for 3k damage now - and it only has 100 hp you would leech 300 hp via vr
in CT if you hit that same mob you would only get 10 hp
im sure that nerf doesn't sound very significant but trust me its huge
just sounds to me like healers will have an easier time to find groups now :P
lot of ppl seem to think pole users actually lvl without a healer
while that might be true at C grade (or for destros) it doesnt work so well at 70+ for the average guy
somehow i dont think most classes will bother trying to find 2 bishops and an EE for crap pole xp
apart from whatever warlords decide not to quit the other pole classes will more than likely go back to single targeting mobs for about the same xp and a million times less risk
Ofcourse is it different on higher levels Nanashi, but its not very fun to level a healer on low levels if they cant find groups (because they're not needed) and this will hopefully make it a bit easier for em :P
They can solo at lower lvls. And it wont make it really easier as people will stop poling more likely than start to look for those extra healers.
Sadly, I think that is exactly how this is going to work out. What is even sadder is, either:
1) The devs don't play the game enough to understand how badly they are hurting the players with this nerf.
2) The devs do understand, which means they intend to hurt several classes, some of which already hurt (healers).
doubt they are dumb enough to kill of the healers as well as the pole users
odds are they just wanted the healers to be more needed in one man destro aoe groups
and yeah obviously they will fail
Yes, it will fail if so many healers are required that poling becomes useless, compared to open-field, single-mob play. In which case, I really feel for the dozen or so Warlords out there.
I'm still waiting to see how it turns out. I agree that being able to solo FoG with oop VR is a bit extreme, I can solo pretty much anything below my level with ch buffs+VR as long as there are no casters. Right now I'm pulling 10-15 (usually 5-10 raiders/grendels) mobs in beast farm which are white/green to me at lvl68, solo with no downtime. The only limiting factor is the damage I take while setting the pull up. It's fun, but I'm not going to fly off the wall if I lose that ability.
The main problem right now, is that people have no desire to party my warlord if I don't have VR. Poling is deemed "pointless" or "impossible" without it. My buddy is an EE and we have no problems duoing to moderate effect. It's not nearly as efficient as with VR by a long shot, but it's still acceptable if you can live with the occasional mana break and have a finger ready for emergency battleroar.
I'm hoping that after the VR nerf, people will start to experiment a bit with tanks tanking the pulls (now there's a funny thought) or whatever, and not just lay down their poles and go "nope, it can't be done".
The biggest reason I'm not too fussed about it is that it has no direct effect on pvp. I can live with my wl becoming less proficient in pve, but would have a major problem if they nerfed me in pvp. I've always hated how wl is by popular opinion the class that's "supposed to suck in pvp because it's so good in pve".

True, so very very true. And it also is not hard at ALL to AoE with a healer. If my mage can tank mobs and AoE them with an EE as my only healer and never resting... then why can't everyone else?
I agree, aoe with a healer works fine, maybe not the exact same of exp but then again, how fun is it to solo in a mmorpg? I find it boring as hell >.>
No, I don't do FoG, I AoE in Dark Omens. AoE in FoG is too hard for me, because 2-3 monters could end up being 10-15 if you get unlucky, and on top of that they are all higher level than me, and thus have a very good chance to interrupt my spells. However, if they didn't split, then I could probably do it, yeah.
Try 40 mobs and then say the nerf doesnt matter. At that point you need both VR and healer, now you'll need multiple healers who will still be drained from all their MP in quite a short time. Pole dmg per hit isnt quite what your AoE nukes are, so the poler will spend a longer time with the same mobs, unless its a Frenzied Destro which will be a rare sight in CT1.
Are we sure being able to pole 40+ mobs above your level is really intended, though?
this is the thinking that got magic AOE nerfed the first time, that led to the limit of mobs in the first place for melee, and that has evolved into the nerfing of classes in general.
come back to C2 for a moment - remember we are only using C gear, only have SpS and sleep is back to operational condition.
a 3-man (or woman) Spellsinger/sorc team gets a dwarf to pull the ENTIRE area in lets say the Cemetary. sleepcloud unlimited mobs by the first nuker, the other two simultanous cast AOE nukes (which were same power as regular nukes in that day long ago) for unlimited kills.
if you looked carefully you could WATCH the plvler services exploit this to the N-th degree throwing in big boom when the SpS's mana got low (which it never did)
just because you CAN does not mean you SHOULD. and aoe is no exception.
AB is totally different. You dont need VR there because the idea is to kill the train in 1-2 shots anyway. You can still do it, and some ppl still do it, but to me it seems that they made the spawns there smaller.
And if you wanna talk about powerlvl, the best ones were Big Boom only, no SPS there to hog the exp.
The EE spams major heal on me with full buffs for about 20 seconds (the time it takes me to kill them) and I have two SEs recharging me. I also have dances and PoW.
Go pull 40 monsters in CT1 with 3 healers, a dancer, and PoF and you will do fine, I promise.
You need to quit complaining about how your class got nerfed, and either keep playing, or quit, because it is honestly really really annoying. The people who make this game don't stand around and nerf a class for no reason, get it through you head. I don't care if you don't have 78 buffers, and I don't care if you don't have S grade. One day you will, and then your AoEing will be way too fast and efficient compared to other classes.
How many times do I have to explain this? I went Spellsinger in open beta. I got my subclass in C3, and went Necro because I was poor. I was using a +5 Homu sword at 75. I went Tyrant right when C5 came out, but instead of leveling it, took my Muse to 80 instead. Got to about level 60 before Interlude hit.
Besides all that, your comment has nothing to do with Destroyers being nerfed.
I just think it is sad that they are nerfing Destroyers in PVE, i can see the problem with a destroyer going in owning a hole party, but that allmoste never happen. unless it is a party of newbie pvp'rs.
Anyways.. the reson i think it is so sad is becos, if you are in a clan where ppl's work together the power of the destroyer is comming in handy for all members, well i do aoe in FOG we are allways a full party, some my not have a great job down there but, they are getting xp, and we allwasy got like 2 healers in party, they may not have to heal a lot but they are getting xp, the only way i see healers complaining about not getting en partys cos a destroyer and a SE is all that is need'ed, well word of adwice change clan.! get in to a clan where, you will get great xp, and have funny partys at the same time.
i just came from a party, down in FOG i got my lvl 77-78, and we had a full party, 2 healers, 2 destroyers, one paladin, one sws, one bd, one archer, and one WC. and the good think about haveing a party like that is, that not only did i get 10% xp, but i allso got 8 pvp's, and the main reson for that is that we have ppl for fight wartags wile the rest of us kill of the mobs. so no matter what if you are in a well working clan. a healer is allways needed in AOE. if not for the normal PVE, well then for the PVP if wartags comes.
Terkel, do you think its possible to aoe with frenzy and se slave only down there? or should I bring a a bd with pp slave for shorter reustime on frenzy? (for the first ramp or so)
currently level 66 destroyer
there are no good exp areas around my level except catas and there are bots in every room.
get around 25k exp per mob in a trio :)
if you know any areas, enlighten me ;)
Nanashi, it is easy to test. Go hunt a red mob, note the exp you get. When the same mob turns yellow to you, note the exp again. It will be higher than the exp when it was red.

i would but all my accounts have their slots maxed out and its too much effort for me to lvl a toon so a mob stops being red tbh
when my friend gets on i'll ask if i can borrow his account to make a lvl 1 to test it.....
found a lvl 1 dorf on one of my accounts
tested it and no there is no xp penalty for hunting red mobs
let me know if you want screenshots for proof
That's interesting, I always assumed there was a penalty for higher mobs, as well.
But I guess even if there is no penalty, it's easy to think it is if you're in a team, as you will get a bigger portion of the team's xp as you level up.
Never soloed reds after nongrade I think. As a WL I'm kinda biased towards the quantity>quality approach.
well i basically haven't touched a red mob since B grade, and even those i only done for a bit of fun
technically there is kinda an xp penalty for hunting red mobs since the higher pdef and evasion will prolly slow you down and higher lvl mobs dont really give proportional xp to their lvl (degrading xp curve)
when i xpped my destro sub i would walk into a catacomb filled with red mobs and walk out with it filled with light blue
as i got slightly higher lvl i would kill a bit faster and pull an extra room or 2 so in the end i would wind up with about the same xp from the green mobs as from the red ones

Well, for me it changed in WoA on the Banders back in the day. Same in FotD at vampires. Exp is higher when they're not red. Now then, there's no difference between yellow, white and green ^^
It is also said in the new player FAQ on these boards New Player FAQ
i don't trust player written guides
if someone wants to prove me wrong they can go ahead but i don't really xp anymore and it would take me weeks to get one of my main toons to turn a mob from red to yellow
I hunt in Hot Springs with a mix of white / yellow / pink mobs. I get good drops from all (well as good as it is in HS). XP is unaffected by mob color from green to red. Only change is when light blue/purple then you lose XP.
If you are noticing you get more XP/mob then maybe that is when you use Overhit skills. As you close the level gap you do more damage per hit so you will end up getting more XP per kill but only due to the Overhit. I tend to kill every mob with Crush of Doom to get the Overhit XP boost.
get me a screen shot of it then
i've seen ppl claim this for ages but noone has ever shown proof
EDIT:actually i know an easy way to test this
my WCer is lvl 68, tell me a mob that is red to it and white to you and go out and kill it and tell me the xp you get
alternatively i have a few toons which are 78+ heaps of mobs which are white to me will be red for a lot of other ppl
We've discussed the Frenzy nerf quite a bit. What I really want to know is what the heck is going on that animation/gif/whatever that Ryll uses for his avatar?
Not polar bear suit. She has a seal cub lookalike on her head, the dress is white as to camoflage her ^^ Polar bears eat seals, so in other words, she's acting like a bait and getting the bear to attack. Great fun. I love japanese tv shows ^^
I <3 my avatar. It makes me giggle - but at the same time I think I would be pretty scared seeing a polar bear lunge within inches of my face, even with the knowledge of the glass between us.

Until I read the last 2 replies, I thought the glass broke. Kinda weird action anyway, and a bit easy to mis-read what' going on when the image is so small. But that lady looks like she is genuinely terrified.
Until CT1 comes out on PTS, I am not sure there is any more point in discussing this nerf. IMO, the only point before then to further discuss this would be if somebody has actually tried to simulate playing under the nerf conditions, and is generous enough to share what he tried and if it worked.
someone go kill a ketra mob when it is red and i'll get you the numbers
alternatively go kill some mobs at high BS or shrine of the loyal, alot of those are blue to me but i can get one of my buffers to kill em
if it hurts your pride as a destro to kill only one ketra mob just pull a few generals
