Got a couple of questions about enchanting skills and Id appreciate any feedback from any players whove been there. I have a 76 Soultaker and decided to spend some exp and sp on lvling some skills. Talking to the ncp he tells you that for a +1 enchant there is an 82% success rate. Unless Im so **** unlucky this cant be right. For a +2 skill he gives an 80% success rate yet I spent an encyclopedia of giants books and a load of exp on getting my cursed man and death spike to lvl 2. Which brings me to my next question.. I dont seem to see a difference between death spike +1 and +2 or a +0 for that matter. Btw DS was enchanted on Power not Cost. When I got my cursed man skill to +1 he went from lvl 76 to lvl 78, so I spent 4 more giants books and like 20 % exp on trying to get it to +2 and lvl 80 and today it finally was successful but after summoning cursed man its still lvl 78, no change on p.atk , hp etc. I restarted and even checked files but stil lvl 78. Was all that exp loss to waste? Anyone know?
How come at +1 it went from lvl 76 to 78? And if it took so many giants books and so many tries just to get it to +2 i cant imagine what it would take for a +9.
I've been unlucky with enchanting skills as well. I guess someone has to be in that 18% of failures, right? What I'm seeing is that the differences aren't very noticeable at first but as you get the skills to higher enchants they do get better. Its like having that small advantage compared to someone who's skill isn't enchanted.
Usually when somebody tells me that something "can't be right" with % chances in this game - like e.g. when somebody fails a lot of crafts - I do not think much about it, maybe he just had bad luck, I am pretty lucky with 60% crafts. But the % chances for enchanting skills just cannot be right. There are SO MANY people who repeatedly fail skill enchants with 97% chances, e.g. one guy I know has failed to enchant stun shot to lvl 1 eight times in a row. This just cannot be just "bad luck", there is something screwed up with skill enchanting - because it is not single incidents, it is pretty much everybody who is complaining.

If that is the case, I seriously hope people are reporting it as a bug. Otherwise, NC won't get to it until L3
They wont fix it period unless it was giving you a extra bonus. Dont belive any % chance on anything including weapons.
My experence with online games is this. When a bug works to screw you it will take forever to be fix or never fixed. Yet if a bug is giving you a bonus beyond what its sopose to do they will fix it within an hour. Sad but true.
You may want to wait till you are L77 or L78 before enchanting your skills your % rate goes up. I had problems enchanting my skills at L76 so I was told by a friend to wait till I was higher and with the % rate higher I was able to enchant my skills.
Thanks Nanashi, great link but if this info holds true there is something seriously wrong with the whole skill enchant structure. Lets look at the numbers for a sec and since Soultaker is my main Ill focus on that character.
There are some basic skills that a Soultaker needs for both exping and pvping like Silence, Gloom, Anchor, Death Spike and Summon Cursed Man and at lvl 76 he needs an average of 3% exp to lvl each one to +1. So lets say I wait till lvl 78 so I can have better odds of enchanting these skills to +10 each, thats 3% x 5 x 10 = 150% exp even if all 5 skills are successful at 100% success rate. Something very improbable but lets say my luck is better then the guys who won the lottery last week and I make all 50 enchants without fail I would be the proud owner of:
Death Spike - an increase of power from 108 to 112. A 3.8% increase on damage
Cursed Man- lvl 80
Silence- an increase of 6% probability of landing
Gloom- an increase of 6% probability of landing
Anchor- (since no info is given I can only assume it to be same as Silence and Gloom.)
I have managed to lvl all five of these skills to Silence/Gloom/Anchor +1 and C.M/D.S. +2 at a cost of almost 40% of my lvl and around 50 mill adena on Giants Books. If case is true that Im one of the unlucky ones ( since in trying to craft my tat set I was only successful on 2 crafts out of 11! ) this thread would be a good opportunity to share some info on skill enchants and success rates from characters of lvls 77 and 78. So lets see how lucky some of you Ubers are. Lets post it here.
your maths is flawed because the % for each enchant will go down as you lvl
at lvl 76 a +1 skill might cost 3% xp but at 78 it would be more like .8% at lvl 79 and 80 you can throw a handful of enchants around and not even spend 1% :/
i spent over 70% of lvl 78 enchanting skills and never managed to get 1 past +5 - well that would be a lie since i did manage to get 1 skill to +7 but as you can prolly guess that was the skill i was trying to blow up so i could change the enchant route since NC bodged the skill description and it was a piece of crap
the enchant system is one of many reasons i pretty much never log in anymore
call me crazy but im not a fan of spending 8 hours xping so i have a chance to lvl a skill which gives me a tiny boost to a crappy skill for a few million adena
At L76 I failed to get 1 skill to +2 two times, so I stopped trying. At L78 I got 3 skills to +5, taking each skill up to +5 then going on to the next one. I did not fail any of them when I took them to +5. I stopped at +5 , I'll try to go higher after I level more and do some of my other skills too when I get more books.
i got +9 scarfice frist try at lvl 78. get 78 then enchant .
there in lies the problem
i failed 5 + enchants in a row at lvl 76
statistically speaking it is far more likely that i would succeed those same 5 enchants as fail them
having a lottery based character advancement system is utter stupidity in a game as competitive and grind heavy as L2 is, its moronic to have the system work such that those who put in equal effort and time may end up with nothing at the end of the day, while those who roll the "hard six" get the advantage
The thing you mustn't forget about OE'd skills, though, is that their skill-level goes up. So a +1 recharge is considered 76 and can recharge a 80 (81 actually) at 100%. For offensive spells, it means better land-rate for debuffs and better spell accuracy, so you'll do the full damage of your spell more often.
And the goal is to have a slight advantage. The guy with +10 silence will have slightly more chance of silencing you, so if you went 1 vs 1 against him, he'd win a little more often than you if you have +0. In this pvp/olympiad-oriented game, every slight edge you can have over your opponent is sweet.
anything which is chance based is technically lottery based
as long as NC continues to have the current system of rolling a dice to either lose xp/sp and gain some minor increase in skill effectiveness or lose xp/sp and gain nothing it will remain a lottery
Its already been said that (till CT1) success rates of skill enchants go up as you level up.
at 76/77/78 they do but there is no change in that next chron
Sure you can enchant at 76, but your success rate will suffer (as you've already seen). Get to 78 before you enchant, or better yet, 80.
re-read my other post
ofc i wanted to overenchant skills at 76 but as a summoner it goes without saying you need to +1 your summon - still it was friggn awesome to have to spend 10-15% at 76 just to have the ability to have the skill i would have gotten, via logic, only spending sp had NC continued their skill lvling system
i spent 70+% at 78 and have yet to manage one skill over +5 (except for one, again reread)- the success rate doesn't go up at 79 or 80 all that happened for me was i managed to have the luxuary of getting less xp per day at 79/80 then i did at 78 which technically means i get less overenchant goodness per day (but thats a whole other post :P)
in CT you will able to use a different type of giant book to safely lvl skills (think blessed enchants), if the enchant fails the skill will not reset to +0 but you will have to spend 3x the xp/sp (and no word on how hard the books are to get)
while the new system may seem to benefit me as CaptainFailAlot in truth it benefits once again those who manage to roll the "hard six" instead of just ******* hard earned xp/sp into the wind
The xp required to level up skills does not increase at 79. You can oe the same amount of times at 79/80 as 78. It doesn't take % from you, it takes a certain number of xp (like 3m xp).
For fun with numbers, I failed going +1 twice at 79 (97% success) before succeeding, but went from +1 to +10 on Mew the Cat in one try. It seems like +1 is the hardest to do no matter what.
