How are we going to transfer servers?

I keep hearing talk about server transfers. How are we going to transfer servers? I might be looking for a good US East Coast server. Gustin seems to be fading . I thought actually that there would be server merges by force. I would hope that I could move both my accoutns to a new server. The only problem I would have would to have to wake up at 4am for a seige :( :p
No server merges. Server merges is a bad idea.
No server transfers. Server transfers is a bad idea.
Since the system is already in place in Korea, I imagine we'll have the same thing.

In effect, you choose what character (not account) you want to move, and the server you want to move to. You pay some additional fee for the privilege and, on the next maintenance day, the character you chose wakes up on your new server.

Oh, and, you don't have any gear or possessions on your new server, by the way. You have a limit of adena you are allowed to take with you from Server A to B, though if you have below this amount of Adena, you don't get any extra. Thus, if you have Epics and massively OE'd stuff on Server A, you're not going to end up on Server B with the same stuff, or even anywhere near the equivalent of Adena (iirc, a level 76+ character was limited to 1 billion adena, and lower than that to much less).

Of course, I'm not 100% certain that this is how NA-L2 will see server transfers, but, given the way things come from Korea to us, it's the best guess I can make.

Oh, and, you don't have any gear or possessions on your new server.

You have a limit of adena you are allowed to take with you from Server A to B

And NCSoft Korea yet again gives a support mechanism for Adena Inc :(

Well, how else would you do it? It seems so open to potential benefit for Adena Inc regardless how you do it.

Transfers are already going to happen, it's not really a matter to discuss anymore.... it's now a matter of "when" not "if".

Merges? No word yet.

Just let bring everything you have in inventory/wh with you?
Or its too difficult to implement (and no profits to those who offer a service "transfer your adena fast and safely"?).
Transfers/merges are up in the air so best not to discuss them besides what you would like.

For one I think merges would force a more active player base. I can see how it would be hard for clans who loose castles etc etc but I think it would make the game more like it is meant to be played. Who knows though. We are different from Korea anyway.

Opinions are like ________ fill in blank
Nah, I would rather transfer 300 mil via NCsoft service and have 300 mil on target server than transfer 300 mil from current server and have 130 mil on destination server via "transfer adena safely". Big scam IMO. You pay fee in both cases, and have to level your character on destination server anyway.

But transfer at least your clothes and weapon would be nice though.
Anyone knows how is it with registered craft recipes and quest items? Do they disappear all too, or only quest items get cleared?

I'm almost positive that most of the high end clans that would be up to lose the most with a server merge would still gladly welcome it as it would bring in more enemies
it will come, it's already in the code as a friend of mine found this posted on some L2 forum..

-The server has been integrated, and your Clan name, $s1, has been overlapped with another name. Please enter the Clan name to be changed.

-The server has been integrated, and your character, $s1, has been overlapped with another name. Please enter a new name for your character

-This account was converted into an integrated account and as a result may not access Lineage II.\nPlease try again with the integrated account.

ah and lol @ these

-You are currently logged into 10 of your accounts and can no longer access your other accounts.

-Search user $s2 for third party program use completed in $s1 minute(s).
If it's in code, that does not mean it will ever be used. It may be prepared and sitting there, 'just in case'.
Would be nice to compare previous versions (C1 or so) if they contain it too :p That was we could see the trend more easily.
OK, so, if we can eventually transfer servers.... What happens to names? If there is say, one other person with my characters name, who keeps it? Is it whoever had it first? Highest level? Original on the server?

It's probably one of two things. Either you get some sort of extra letters to your name (SovrathHind for example) or the person with the oldest named character keeps his/her name.

It could also be that the person requesting the transfer would have to change the name if the name is taken on the server he/she is trying to move to.
That's the only fair way I can see it... it would suck to log in one day, and suddenly you have to change your name.... But couldn't they put like a little tag with your name to show what server you originated from?
Little tag like... (using Sov as an example) SovrathHINDEMITH (caps and the whole name of the server, might even have the number too :P). Yeah, that would be so NC.

Don't forget that there would be some long boring quest that would require a lot of mats and a lot of traveling.
Yeah, after you have transfered to be able to have that name in the first hand. IF you didnt do it, your name would be TRANSFEREDNOOBLOOKINGFORNAME23638764007.
Seems like too much trouble. Unless, of course, your server is dead. But what about PKers? Will there be some restriction if you have karma?
IMO you'll get something similar to 'NAMECHANGE540" :D
It needs to be so that whoever had the name first on that server keeps it.... what happens when you PM a friend, and he's like, "Sorry, I just transferred from another server."
I know that NCSoft is considering transfers. Personally, I think server mergers is a HORRIBLE idea (would ruin the societies we have built). I also think server transfers is a BAD idea. You can already play on any server you want to, you just start a toon and level it up. If you are unwilling to invest the energy to do that, it's your failing not NCSoft's.

I don't want a bunch of other servers' rejects popping up in my world.
I guess only Ericans would know this, but imagine a clan like MM (Merciless Midgets) hopping from server to server....
Why rejects? I met people from my country there, even RL friends, I want to move there for example.
I want to move because of timezone I live in.
I want to move my whole clan to start new powerhouse so we can have lots of PVP.
I want to move because everybody I played with on my current server left L2.
I want to move because I like roleplaying.
I want to move because ...

There are many reasons to move, not only "I am on KOS for being *****hole everybody knows my alts too I need to go". You see it too dark.
<off topic>

I only know one Erican who quotes Milton.
I'v come to a relative place of peace re: server TRANSFERS. Although there aren't a lot of legit reasons to do them--there are at least a couple of legit reasons.

I have friends with significant resource somewhere else who now play with me and I suppose they earned their stuff on the other server so "some" of it should probably be able to be moved over....I guess.

As long as no one is allowed to flit and switch back and forth and move over and over (and all the repeated griefing chaos that would promote) I am somewhat resigned that server TRANSFERS will happen. I'm not a fan of the idea--but if it happens it happens.

Server Mergers are a whole 'nother issue. I'm not at all in support of those. Presumably they would be forced and you'd log in one day to see your server choices as Server1NA, Server2NA, Server3NA, Server1Euro, Server2Euro and you would simply find yourself (and clanmates/allymates) on one of the 'new' servers. No way will they simply pick "Bartz", "Lionna", "Hindemuth" as the 3 surviving and force everyone to those. I'd bet there would be a complete renovation of servers and EVERYONE would get moved....about the only fair way to do that.

My 2 cents. Server transfers? If they have to happen then limit them (1x per account forever). Server Merges? Heaven help us all.
I think the server xfer are a somewhat good idea. It means that the people that have high level toons tha dont wanna reroll can move for a change. But if what someone earlier said is true about not havign any gear or money when you xfer to another server then i think its just a waste of time.
Well, but if you have already rerolled on another server, earned some money atc and still want to move your old character from another server? For me, 72 SE would be pleasant to have, I can fund his gear from resources I gathered already on new server.
Also if you move to server to follow your friends, chances are they will help you with gear.
Keeping in mind that server transfers were first said to be coming shortly back in May '04...

Server mergers? Is there any plausible reason to suspect that NCNA is considering such a thing?

With the game design, castle system, clan/ally system, economy based on rare goods . . .

Also, they've already invested in the hardware needed to support all ten servers - I can't see merging servers as saving them money.

I guess on the one hand it's kinda interesting to talk chicken-little, but to me the topic of server mergers is inconceivable.
....not going to happen
Merges are still very far in the future, I think, and are a completely separate topic from transfers.

Will merges happen? One day. L2 will never maintain the population for 10 servers forever. Whether its WAR, AOC, Aion or L3 that instigates it, there will, one day, be a massive exodus of players from every server that will necessitate merging.

That day is not now, though.

Transfers are different. I still don't agree with the idea of them, but, hey, if someone really can't be bothered to "do it all over again" (never mind the fact that there have been many who have) or who want a "get out of jail free" card after having destroyed any competitive spirit on their current server.... meh, why shouldn't NCS make a buck off them?

....not going to happen

To be honest, I'm not holding my breath for server transfers of single characters.
Lyrics by Pete Townshend (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Won't_Get_Fooled_Again)

No matter how they do it, it'd help Adena, Inc more than regular players.
Nekkid limited money --> helps Adena, Inc
Nekkid unlimited money --> helps Adena, Inc
equipped, no warehouse, limited money --> helps Adena, Inc
equipped, no warehouse, unlimited money --> helps Adena, Inc
fully equipped, move your whole farmer base of mats --> helps Adena, Inc

But it's at least plausible, even if the only way it's been announced (recently) was in a conversation with a fan meet/greet that was full of fanciful talk.

I guess only Ericans would know this, but imagine a clan like MM (Merciless Midgets) hopping from server to server....

If they're paying NCsoft a ton of money for it and thereby gets us more stuff, then thats fine.

Besides, the current restrictions cheaters can get around pretty easily, they just transfer their wealth around on the servers, get gear on the ones they want to play on, then transfer their base character from server to server, reequipping them on arrival.

Yet again, legit players lose.

equipped, no warehouse, unlimited money --> helps Adena, Inc

Doesn't really help Adena Inc.

fully equipped, move your whole farmer base of mats --> helps Adena, Inc

Doesn't really help Adena Inc. either.

I was actually referring to the annoying players who think that getting level 30 in two weeks is really good. But, that was AFTER they ebayed. They had this one guy run in to a castle siege, alone, level 30, and shout, "I am now the castle lord!"

For that brief moment, everyone attacking and defending were friends, united in the sole purpose of killing that little insect. If people like that made mass migrations from server to server.... then they could at some point actually become strong.... maybe even powerful?

I was goin on the thought that the farmers could profit much more than ordinary folks by moving tens of thousands of mats from low price servers to high price, and also moving some billions of adena from low RMT-demand servers to the high RMT-demand server.
You would have to move mass amounts to make up for the cost of a server transfer, gotta remember if it costs 20 dollars, which is around 50+ million adena, they lose that in profits...and you have to move a hell of a lot of mats to make 50+ million in profit and THEN make regular profit ontop of it.

Not to mention it actually benefits everyone, since it would equalize the markets quickly, which in turn would mean less profit for the farmers for doing this too.

So in short, they really wouldn't gain anything from this.

Moving money? They don't need to move money all that often. People already sell them plenty of money and give them money when they transfer them illegally, to insure they have huge stockpiles of money on every server.

And even those few times they can do it, its a pretty minor thing in the grand scheme of things compared to the huge loss they make in that they can no longer make tons of money transfering peoples adena from server to server.
I guess I see your point that unlimited transfer of everything you want wouldn't be of great service to farmers.

I can't exactly articulate why, but it feels to me that letting unlimited amounts of the rare stuff (recipes, items, mats) move in to a new economy would be dangerous.
Well, to new servers you'd disallow transfers for a long while.
There are no new servers ATM though.
Big question is: will they allow transfer to Teon and Franz? If not due to their heavy loads, they'll need to establish new EU server or two - or convert some of current US server to EU. To satisfy demands from EU user that grew up on US servers but want to move due to timezone issues.
I think I was unclear about what I meant by "new economy"

I think it's absurd to expect a brand new server this late into the game, when we've insufficient players to populate the ones we already have.

I meant the idea of transfering lots of rare stuff (items, recipes...) to an existing new server, with a player transfer. Obviously to a new launch, if one existed, it'd be impossible to bring in current gear & characters, or else it's instantly not a new launch.

I hazard a bet that NCAustin wishes all the servers were full like Teon.
from what i've been told, its only move from heavy to light servers in korea and are limited to what your character can carry for items..WH's dont transfers.
no kidding. at least it's better than quoting Longfellow ferchrissake.

Do we allow to transfer boss jewels? lvl11+ SA crystals? Other stuff that requires competing (on a healthy server) to produce?
Probably not and that sucks...whats just as bad for some players is things they're saving as a memory of something or someone.

Also, augments will be lost, as you cannot sell those :( You have to remove them and sell it or lose it when you transfer :(

I really hope NCSoft does better than this....also by not allowing gear, makes it near impossible to jump between servers to play with friends.
Let's try not to condemn before we hear what's actually going to happen.
i won't transfer if i can't take my calculator with me
i've had that thing since c2 :(
Hmm... I really don't care how will the transfers will go about, or if you can take gear with you or not, but Euro players have been promised server transfer option to European servers when this game started. It would be about darn time to finally get them.

My gaming time is very limited (have only gotten a level 64 character, and a level 52 one... and that playing since prelude !! , albeit with some pauses..).

Yes I want to be able to play my hard leveled characters from Sieghardt on Franz. And yes I want to be able to go to sieges at times other then 5 AM. My clannies with more gaming time have left Sieghardt and are now level 60-ish on Franz. How am I supposed to play with them ?
64 is easy, especially when there are friends are around to help.
think of 78/77 or some others 80/78/78 that are full equiped and have +++ OE skills.
not that easy for them to start from the very beggining and waste uhmmm, lets say 3 more years of their lives?
dont think so...
64 since prelude is some high level when you have very limited time to play.
Thank you Crawlerin :). As you can see I joined the forum just two days after Lord_Chaos :) Nowhere near his postcount though :). Wow three years... has it been that long ?. Apparently so. :)

Well might have gotten my hopes up for nothing, seems "Character transfers" mentioned in the interview might not be server transfers after all, but character transfers among different accounts on the same server.

Bummer.

May we have an official statement about this please ?
What exactly are character transfers ?
Well, that you transfer characters ... just need to figure out where - if across accounts or servers :)
it's $%^& annoying that the only info about that kind of stuff is NOT on lineage2.com
imo there are enough Euro's/Russian's & Asians who have been playing on the US servers from the early days and have been waiting for this promised server transfer option to populate a whole new server without any problem, most likely it will even bring back some old players.

A new server to which folks can transfer to is in my eyes a better solution then just allowing transfers between the existing servers as it would give players from Teon & Franz the option to re unite with old friends or even re activate old abbonded chars as well no overburden of Teon & Franz servers to which most ppl from the US server will migrate to otherwise.

Anyways it would be nice if NA NC Soft staff would give us an update on the actual nature of their plans when it comes to the annouced increased services that we should expect by CT1.
how about instead of server transfer ideals, how about more bannings! lol
After the server transfers, is it ok with game rules to trade adena? Like if i move from server A to B, and someone moved from B to A, its ok to trade adena with the other person? (Ofcourse not a "secure" trade)?

And does anyone know how names are going to work with this? If someone named Bird moves to a server that already has a Bird, im assuming there will be a name change option? and with that, i guess bots would be able to tranfer and get real looking names? Ex:someone illegaly buys a botted toon named ssosos, makes a ssosos on other server, then transfers there and calls himself Bob.

As long as no RL money is involved, yes.
Actually no, EULA specifically has a sole chapter stating you are not allowed to make trades like that. Totally not detectable of course, but illegal nevertheless.

Where? I just scanned through the EULA and saw no such provision.

Can you post it or link it? At least provide the chapter-and-verse?

let me give you the answer that alyra gave me when i asked her directly. i will quote the PM...

Re: re: in-game asset trading
From: Alyra
Ok, so here's the deal with cross-server trades, purchases, etc. Technically, it's not against the EULA, but it's something we highly recommend NOT doing since it opens the doors to all sorts of possible scams. If you do it, it's an at-your-own-risk situation and not something we'd be able to help out with.

that would be an official answer.

Dosent that...

A) Confirm that Server Transfers are coming.
B) Confirm that its likely to work just as the Korean version does.

Unless...

That PM was awhile ago, but it cant be THAT long ago as Alyra hasnt been in hell..er..on the job very long.
What happens with two players on the same server with the same name? Who gets screwed outa there name, i know i dont. try reporting one as a bot having both banned would be un-justice :)
I'd imagine the incoming character would have to add a letter or change their name. They are, after all, the new kid on the block.

Thats taken care of during the transfer.

To my understanding.. what you do is create a character on the server you wish to transfer too (same base class/whatever name), initiate the transfer and when you log that character in, hes your "old" character on the old server.

Thats how I read it on the korean site.. although I'm not the best at translating so dont sue me.

that message was a while ago, and no it does NOT confirm server transfers are coming, nor does it in any way imply Korean methods of implementation. it means Player A from Devianne and Player B from Bartz can trade gear/items and its actually fine. no problems. the only thing stopping you is the fear of scam - Alyra says it herself - "if you do it, its an at-your-own-risk situation". thats what i asked, and that is how Alyra replied.

besides, your presumptions of Server transfer thingies have been answered in the Vault interview.

Answered? Not really, maybe made even more dubious.

The answers given could be taken two ways, either account -> account or server -> server.

As to the questions, its pretty logical to think if you just asked them say... a few days ago with all the questions about how they'll work ;)

Settle down troll boy ^-^
pretty sure i read somewhere that trading assets across servers was banable
well ive read using third party programs were too, but we know how that goses lol.

What I thought she was answering is if it's ok if I offer to trade you an item on Server#1 for an item on Server#2. As long as there's no real-$ involved, that's completely legit.

The potential scam part is that you can't be logged in both places, so the risk is pretty bad, but if both people multi-box, it'd be easy enough.

If we're forced to transfer characters nekkid, I bet more than a few arrangements like this will happen.

if we are forced to switch while naked you can bet someone will just server hop, dropping items into their boxed toon, and switchback for quick and easy free adena.

and at B grade+ its easily worth 50$ to double switch and net yourself 100m free adenas.

and at B grade+ its easily worth 50$ to double switch and net yourself 100m free adenas.

You don't get free adena for transferring servers. You move with what you have, or at the limit of the cap.

At $50 for a transfer, you'd be better off visiting eBay for 100m adena, sad to say.
I think people are far over reacting about all of this. Either way, there are going to be ways for bots, farmers or whatever to manipulate the system regardless of what they do with it. Just give us character server to server transfers, make it so you can only transfer what you have *on* you minus things like mats (so armor, gear, a few other types of things (I want my calculator and chronos tyvm!) & your adena only, adena to a limit) or hell, take it all (wh, inventory, all of it) and then make it so you cannot server hop. One transfer per character for a set amount of time, in case you want to move again in a few months.

Regardless, someone is going to find a way to screw with it. Just give us the transfers already o.O

They've announced pricing? 0.o
In Korea its 3 monthly payments. So it should be 45$

so if i transfer a character from serverA to serverA, i effectively just did a namechange? even if they prevent same-server transfers, you can still do it by transferring from serverA to serverB and then back to serverA. i really hope that when they offer the service they ask players their reason for wanting to transfer.

In Korea its 3 monthly payments. So it should be 45$

Erm, the latest pricing I can get is $24... not $45.

Did they up it?
I mean here in NA it will be around 45%.I have no idea how much they pay in Korea for one month:)

I'm not sure if pricing will stay the same or not TBH since they do pay less a month then us to play, so it makes sense to charge a bit more for "extra" features.

Probably have to wait for a official announcement to really get the price info. I dont think you'd have alot of hits at $45, but you would at $25.
