Since Seridove decided she wanted to sleep in this morning, I'm bringing you L2 Vault's (http://l2vault.ign.com) latest topic of the week!
We've been reading about the server transfers, your opinions about them, and what servers you'll transfer to.But now we ask an important question:
Do you think that transfers will upset the political scene of your server?
With the potential for high-level characters and clans to hop to a new server, do you think that the current state of affairs on your server will be affected? Are your dominant clans strong enough to take on all comers, or will they fall in the face of possible new arrivals?
From a personal standpoint, it sorta lacks "Yes and I think that would be a good thing", "Yes and I think that would be a bad thing" etc.
Actually there are so many other variables..we posted in the open forum here so people could comment on why they voted yes or no (or the heck I don't care option too) Just like Cyrant did :)
And thanks for letting me sleep in Jay *rubs eyes and grabs her coffee* you, sir, are a lifesaver!
I don't think that enough is known about the mechanics of NA server transfers to say whether it's going to be feasible for clans/alliances to "hop" servers.
IMO this vote is a bit too early to be worthwhile in gauging opinions based on sound knowledge. I know it's only opinions but I think that it would be better reused when people know how much gear and adena they will be able to transfer and thus whether server transfers will be a tool usable by the the bigger established alliances (and thus the effect could be great) or just a damp squib that really only logically allows less established players to utilise the service.
My hunch is NCNA will make transfers costly enough ($) and painful enough (in-game gear) that there won't be huge movements of players.
Hopefully they'll include an audit of characters that ask to be moved to check if they've been ebaying/PLed or other TOS violations.
In other games when there's been movement possible, only a few people would actually transfer together, like half a dozen at best. So I don't think we'll see big movements of top characters.
But, in a lot of group pvp situations, one or a few people can really swing the battle. So yeah, a little bit of just about anything can stir up a mess of politics, surely the new CT will even if transfers don't actually come. If they do, it should be interesting.
It really depends on the specifics. A one-time transfer per account or character, a hefty fee, and so on are things which would make it have a much lesser impact.
I don't think it will be too big of a deal. It *will* impact the politics (and perharps economy), it's just to what degree that remains to be seen.
Overall I think it's a good thing to be able to hop servers, as a lot of us have friends on other servers, would like to switch between euro/american siege+oly times, and so on.
Need more information before I can really say anything.
Previously, I was expecting our transfers to mirror the Korean model (no gear, no WH, no inventory, adena limit), which I think is a necessary aspect of server transfers to maintain economic and political balance on the receiveing server (and, to a lesser extent, the server the character is leaving from)... but now that we know that that scenario *isn't* the case, yet we have no concrete details on how, exactly, it will work... well, it's too early to call.
If you guys played Bartz (in my case, erica and kain).
You would know that server transfers would be a rather positive thing that will really bolster player compaction, and Wars.
Bartz needs some serious help. Our politics is falling apart. People war but they don't fight. What our servers needs is more clans, more players.
If we had lets say 8 more high lvl clans that bolster 60+ players per-clan all of 76+ players, the PvP action would get heated, and you'd see alot of people getting less boarded with the game and quiting (emnity; a god exp).
The biggest problem with more people is the economy. Bartz compared to Erica or Kain has way more people. Cause of the higher amount of people their is a higher demand, how ever once you get your players from B you get into A/g, but the drop rate don't sustain the amount of players. much Less S grade.
There is one big problem: supply. which leads to many other ones. Sometimes their is too much supply, and other times there is too little. A mass influx of chrs from 7 other servers into one will be a big problem.
This will also lead to some interesting Server politics.
One thing I hope NCsoft notices from the PTS, when you put alot of players into a server, expect them to gear up. no amount of Money they think is right will support that chr.
A positive thing about politics, is there are alot of established clans on server X (lets say bartz). CT1 will add 2 more lvls to clans adding more players into those top clans as they pick up more players; those making some pretty strong clans, and filling out some clans.

I'm with you on this one. The actual platform of any allowed transfer will effect both economics and politics to a varying degree--dependant upon the specifics.
If you can only transfer 1 toon per account (for example) then there will be less impact. If it's a free for all (5$ per toon-unlimited #) then we've seen how L2 players will spend money and you would expect a lot more transfers.
Generally if it's limited it will have a small impact on politics and a moderate impact on economy.
If transfers are unlimited they will have a bigger impact on politics and a bigger impact on economy.
I'd say political "impacts" could go either way--make a server better or worse (though my guess is there will be little political shakeup after an initial surge--again depending upon how many times you can transfer that toon!).
"Impact" to economy will all be relatively bad--whether they are minor impacts or major ones--all will be bad. The bot transfers to where the players are alone has the potential to cause massive market fluctuations for those few real farmers of materials. Because of the typical L2 player, supply usually outstrips demand and no amount of demand can keep prices up for long (cause 1 account = 7 botters, maybe?). I'd predict glutted markets where ever the players end up congregating making prices fall like a stone after as little as 2 weeks.
This is the "good" economic outcome!!! Think about the servers LOSING mains...what happens to their economy? Bots move/leave, supply falls, prices escalate......
You could pay 70 million for a Dama sword on Bartz and 140 million for the same Dama on an unpopulated Server (which means those folks--us folks--are screwed).
I can't say I'm looking forward to economic hits.
But, it's hard to convince people that their little wants and dreams are sometimes bad for them. Like trying to convince a 16 year old that a 1200cc racing motorcycle is a bad idea....
It really depends on what transfers are gonna allow.
If it is all you can carry on your toon yes I would transfer.
If its set amount of adena and gear and the limitation is under my achievements then no I wont transfer.
If its no gear/adena rule then hell I doubt if any1 but ebayers would transfer there..
I might bring an SA 12 ( that costs 35mil on gustin) to a server that can be sold for 120 mil(exaggerating here mby) , but I wont be the only one with that idea. So supply might rise but that wont happen with demand at the same degree. So markets on "popular" transfer targeted server will go down pretty quick.
If thats good or bad for the game itself? No clue.
Speaking of servers, transfers are coming folks! I know weve all heard the in the future line, but Id expect to see this happening soon. When Alyra and Ornery started talking about specifics: potential fees for the server transfer service and other possibilities, it became apparent that in the future wasnt that far away.
Once the information goes live as to what the restrictions are going to be...we'll run another poll..that one will be MUCH more accurate as those waiting to hear what the specifics were probably are holding off on their decisions.
edit: DANG YOU JAY FOR TYPING FASTER THAN I CAN! :p
