Anyway there has been some talk about clan recruiting lately and there is the new clan recruitment forums... and out of boredom I often read other clan's websites...
Anyway I'm currently in a late game clan. We've done most the endgame raids. Have had heroes. Always owned one castle or the other. Fought every other major clan on the server etc. etc...
Anyway... I've noticed that our clan website does not have any rules. Neither did our old ally's.
Things I read on them were kinda suprising... such as shareing gear is "highly prohibited" and the clan "will not help if somebody jacks your gear" or other things such as "you must ask permision before you pk somebody" also things such as activity requirements and so forth and so on.
It seems to me that these are all silly rules. I know that gear is often traded around the clan. People subclass and others that are noble just hand over their gear to borrow. The clan has several poles in the clan hall that get passed out for pole parties. Boss jewels are passed around and around.
If somebody were to jack somebody elses gear, that person would be kosed. The clan would work to replace the gear if the person needed help. That's what clans do isn't it?
Also the PK thing. If somebody trys to take your hunting spot, you ask them to leave. If they don't leave, you pk them. Also if somebody is trash talking, you pk them. Now sure their is some discresion used like if they are a major clan and we are already at war, but people can make that call for themselves can't they?
Anyway, I'm overtired and need some sleep, but I also want something mildly interesting to read in the mounring, so what are you clan rules/policies? What do you expect from members? Why didn't i go to bed 4 hours ago? \
Basically, it all comes down to that People are too much of a carebear these days.
I do hate all these rules. I hate the clan hoppers and I hate when people leave clan soon as war invites come or detag to xp and then later retag in the same clan. Even clans who said they don't swap gear/accounts in their rules still do, so go figure :p
But your right, the whole PK rule(s) thing is absurd for the most part
RE: Gear. I think most clans craft such rules to prevent idiots from losing their gear. The people that have been in the clan for a while usually share anyways and those that have been playing for a while aren't dumb enough to get scammed. The rule isn't aimed at those people.

Really? on another server, in a clan, I know someone who went 1-76 and once more till 75(40-75), got noble, got hero, then scammed a bunch of clannies and started PK'ing them after that. ;)
Our clan has a set of rules and enforces those rules. The PKing thing is included in our rules.
We realize that our clan set-up isn't going to appeal to everyone, and that is also by design.
The good news, is that if you read our clan rules and find them silly, stupid, carebear, or other descriptions of negative bent, you'll elect not to apply and save me the time of talking to you and declining the application.
About the lost gear thing, yes but to a point. If someone loses gear to a scam more than once, too bad for them. Or if they lose it by dying red with too many pks more than a few times, no.
A clan I was in a few chronicles ago once had like 5 people claim to have their gear scammed all at the same time. It was a bit much to replace, esp for those getting rudely impatient about it.

That is only a option if you can defend yourself from the resulting backlash thats sure to come.
Say your clan level is primarly level 50-70. You've got no S, but your coming close... you PK a level 49 in a Catacomb.. who gets so ******, gets on his main and declares war. A war which is against a clan in mostly S with nobles.
Who wins? Do you even have a fighting chance? Of course not.
More and more guilds have absolutely no morals what so ever and will declare war over the little thing, especially if they think your weaker and can get them some fun/rep points.
I think it's good to have things spelled out so that everyone's on the same page.
If you write them down on a webpage, that's one way.
If you talk about it over vent, that's ok too, but written is good if people are thinking of joining.
I know someone not in my clan, just a friend -- he got chewed out by the CL for fighting back when he was partied with my clan and some war action broke out. On the one hand, he was just protecting himself and playing the game the way it's s'posed to be played. On the other hand, his clan didn't want to back him up where it might make them choose sides.
It's interesting also what's left out of the rules. How many clans have rules against using alternative clients? Buying adena?

I'm guessing not many. The clan I'm in expressly says we'll kick people that use other "game clients", but we didn't bother making an adena-buying rule simply cause we can't prove it ("I got a big drop" or "my friend gave me adena" crap).
It's interesting also what's left out of the rules. How many clans have rules against using alternative clients? Buying adena?
I play on Bartz. Major clans kick botters if proof is ever shown. There are always a few exceptions for people who "feel remourse" but those are rare.
Hola Hi!
That's a good point to note. No clan can expect to guarantee they'll never accept a player is is secretly cheating or who elects to start cheating after joining. It's the actions (or inaction) the clan takes once discovering a violation of the rules that matters most.
Well if you ask me the most fun is when major alliances trashtalk about legitness.
-"Your ally is 85% bots, ebayers etc etc and we are 100% legit and you still lose"
-"Your ally is 90% bots, ebayers etc etc you scam you bot you spawnkill"
Veryy funny :P

Be realistic ;)
That reputation point thing has worked out in a bad way in-game, at least as far as clan wars.

If it isn't a two way war then there is no rep points lost or gained.
My clan has been wared several times by the same clan over and over again, but we never declare war back to keep it a one way war because we are a 100% PvE clan. When the wared clan attacks he has the choice of getting PK+1 or just leave us (we have never BSoE'd from them). We never fight back unless the char has gone red on us and still is red.
We are also very against boting so everyone that get caught is getting kicked.
Ebayers is hard to detect (unless they buy a +10 or more top weapon for their grade) because you never know if the player had a lucky drop (top grade life stone) that he sold for alot of adena to afford his equipment or if he managed to craft it by farming the materials needed for the craft.
clan rules are there for a reason. but anyway if someone is a [censored] no rules will keep him from wrong ways :)
our clan lost most of borrowed equip due to people that suddendly quit playing L2, didn't say a single word. they just vanished and took the borrowed equip with them. really nice :( we asked them several times to give it back when they want to quit, but no. there is no way how we can claim anything borrowed back.
i think in some cases rules are just for their entertainment.

Suddenly "quit" ^^ They just rerolled and robbed you blind. Common tactic. Join Clan A with one of your alts, hang in there until they trust you and lend you equipment/let you test theirs = take all you can and run, transfer stuff to your main they know nothing about and never log/delete the alt.
AW clan does not have any specific detailed rules - there are some general of course that are enforced, but nothing like "you have to ask High Councilmen to change your title, they will vote ...". Stuffs like no botting, if you bot you'll be kicked out of clan, no smacktalking on PVP events, do not grief and scam under clan tag etc. People get their equip on their own, there is no detailed loan system, if any clannie can help or get help it's welcommed of course. I "lost" some good C equipment giving to (ex)clannies, but what, i'm not completely naked yet :)
As a healer/buffer, my main pvp defense is tryin to keep others up in front of me. After that, my approach is to let people go red on me, esp if I'm on a lower alt. Even if I tap to clan hall I can earn enough exp to cover several deaths in a couple of buff rounds.
For so many players, making them go red is as good as killing them, cuz they won't even try to work off the karma. So I can endorse Rohirrim an lycridsh's PvEish approach to pvp.
Rules define a clan in words, what they intend to become in this game and what game style they intend to harness.
There is not only ONE style of playing this game, and clans reflect that fact. Just because it's a PVP game, doesn't necessarily mean you have to play it like that. In the end you can play it how you want, and there are clans that are built to attract certain people that want to play a certain way.
The word carebear here has a tendency to get thrown around way too easily. There's a difference between setting rules and being appropriately legit and being afraid to fight.
There is even a difference between those who choose not to fight and those who are afraid to fight.
I believe every clan should have some type of rules, even the very elite, because it prevents the unnecessary behavior from becoming rampant: massive trashtalking, ******s everywhere, in the lack of any social restraint people simply act how they wish. In the end, people in general need to be in an environment of rules because some never become mature.
One other thing, which I am suprised at not seeing discussed up here is what if the clan is mainly a hunting clan. Then, PvP, unless you are protecting yourself, then does become an issue, especially if you are not very many or of a seriously high level. We once had a problem w/ academy toons being jerks cause they thought w/ the clan tag on them, they would be protected.
To a point they would, but then they started in on the top 3 clans on the server. Ha, not going to be disbaned over academy toons.
And now, with the newest payback. Two straigh deaths w/ the other clan doing the rez'n to be sure. At 75+ that is some serious hurtin.
And who's doing all the "kill the mobs" part of the game for you?
Me of course. However, that dosent mean I like it and enjoy it. My 6 year old can play this game as well as I can its that simple. Perhaps for you the PvE game is so absolutely fun, but when my daughter can do it.. its a little.. boring?
They would. After you become red.
Can grief you into oblivion without ever going red. I guess the guy would just SoE and cry into a pillow though.. whatever.

Well... if you are bored by the most of L2, then can't it be that it's actually you who plays the wrong game?

I mostly enjoy my PvE (except for soloing on undeads). If you don't enjoy yours - well, now you know whom to blame.
But I try not to party kids. Waste of MP they are.
They would. After you become red.
Can grief you into oblivion without ever going red.
Seen some people trying. Not a lot, though; Hinde is generally a friendly server.

Maybe it's time for you to play something else then...This game is like 70% PvE and 30% PvP...if you make it 30% PvE and 70% PvP you will never get to b grade.
Going solo for exping is boring I agree with that, but when you have a party and you have them all in ventrilo it's fun fun fun (depending on where you are exping).
They would. After you become red.

You have no idea how many has tryed that only to be forced to BSoE not to die from mobs...if you PvE alot you know exactly how to treat the mobs to make them do what you want (most of the times). I just love the ones that tries to train me only to die from their own train and then blaim me lol...you just gotta love the adults that are still 10 years old in their mind and behavor.
I know my clan has, in the past, kicked those members who decided that buying adena or power-leveling services, or those who decided to bot.
We may be an 'evil' clan in the overall story, but we are a clan with integrity behind the keys, and that kind of thing is not welcome. Any proof of EULA-breaking activity was met with dismissal at the least.
Jeez, how about having a rule that says no e-baying... thats always a good one to have.
You know, bottom line, the good clans try like hell to enforce the ebay / botting issues. I know we have kicked out people within about 20 minutes as soon as one of our leaders is made aware of the issue.
Can I say that none of mine do these things, well, as much I as I can say it.
Will I kick them if I see it, hell yes.
Not much more we can do then.
Yep, I think that enforcing legit play is the most important of rules that a clan can add. It's the duty of clans, the EULA actually does less to regulate true player activities.
And btw when will some of you realize that people play differently? Just accept it and move on, there is no backing to tell someone they can't play in a certain way -- unless it's illegal.
Well... if you are bored by the most of L2, then can't it be that it's actually you who plays the wrong game?
Ahh, because this is a PvE game right? ****WRONG****
Want some quotes from the people who *made* the game that its a PvP game? Hell you'd probably argue with them too.
I mostly enjoy my PvE (except for soloing on undeads). If you don't enjoy yours - well, now you know whom to blame.
But I try not to party kids. Waste of MP they are.
You enjoy PvE? What the hell? Is it "hard" for you? Difficult?
You may enjoy the company, which is the reason all of us are here, the people. However, saying you enjoy your PvE is pretty laughable. "Hey man, that mob just cast sleep..freaking wicked!" "I know I know, he did it a thousand times before, but its still wicked!"
Go live action roleplay or something.... Lightning Bolt!
Seen some people trying. Not a lot, though; Hinde is generally a dead server.
Ashane, all the quotes from people that made the game show is that the game was indeed geared towards PVP, but so what? All that does is increase the chances that there will be people that like PVP playing the game, it never states that ONLY those people will be playing the game.
Now if YOU want proof of their acceptance towards various styles of playing then look at the various NON-PVP activities they have added, and are trying to continually add to the game. Not that it beats out any other MMO, but that's not the point. It's quite basic: you can play the game how you want, no one is going to stop you, no one should be telling anyone else how to play.
Well... if you are bored by the most of L2, then can't it be that it's actually you who plays the wrong game?
Ahh, because this is a PvE game right? ****WRONG****
What is "a PvE game", and why should it matter?
The fact is: you are bored by the most of L2, no matter how you call the game. Unless that 6-year old (or something else) levels your toons for you, that is.
I mostly enjoy my PvE (except for soloing on undeads). If you don't enjoy yours - well, now you know whom to blame.

Depending on mental strength of my teammates. The stronger they are, the harder PvE they can afford.
You may enjoy the company, which is the reason all of us are here, the people.
Of course, it's not the reason. You don't need to play L2 to "enjoy the company".
However, saying you enjoy your PvE is pretty laughable.
Actually, saying that the most of the game you play is boring to you is not even laughable... it's just unhealthy.
Seen some people trying. Not a lot, though; Hinde is generally a friendly server.
Fixed.
Corrected back. And in future, please try to refrain from such stupid tricks.
The fact is: you are bored by the most of L2, no matter how you call the game. Unless that 6-year old (or something else) levels your toons for you, that is.
If I was bored with L2, I woudnt be playing..nice try though.
Also nice "or something else". I've leveled on your pathetic server. I've also wiped clean the majority of your pathetic clans, to the point it got so bad our alliance leader was begging us to stop since they coudnt even get out the freaking front door from just two groups of us. Some of our old members are still there even.. Hero's now of course, so please.
Depending on mental strength of my teammates. The stronger they are, the harder PvE they can afford.
Thats what your not getting. PvE isnt hard. Its not like it requires a ounce of skill or anything. Put A+B+C together and you can kill anything without any trouble, its just putting in the time. Hell maybe you make it a challenge and try all dwarf parties, I dont know.. if so remember these key words from UR: Grind smarter, not harder.
Of course, it's not the reason. You don't need to play L2 to "enjoy the company".
If your friends arent the reason you are playing L2, I dont think its me who is not enjoying it, its most likely you. Why not play a single player game then? Several offer L2 like gameplay, and you dont have to deal with all those people you dont like to hang out with!
Actually, saying that the most of the game you play is boring to you is not even laughable... it's just unhealthy.
Your a therapist now? God.
Corrected back. And in future, please try to refrain from making me look like a idiot.

Who said "with L2"? Read that again, please.
Also nice "or something else".
Just covering all the possibilities. Who knows, maybe you are indeed skipping the "boring" part of the game... in which case it's at least reasonable.

"Please" what, sorry?
Depending on mental strength of my teammates. The stronger they are, the harder PvE they can afford.

Not me, obviously. PvE in L2 is as hard (or as easy) as you want it to be. As opposed to PvP, which, frankly, is mediocre compared to pure PvP games, even to computer ones.
Its not like it requires a ounce of skill or anything. Put A+B+C together and you can kill anything without any trouble, its just putting in the time.
If you want your PvE to be easy, it will be easy. And boring. But who's to blame for that?
Of course, it's not the reason. You don't need to play L2 to "enjoy the company".
If your friends arent the reason you are playing L2,
Lol. If the sole reason why you are playing L2 is to "enjoy the company", how come you are calling it a "PvP" game?
Actually, saying that the most of the game you play is boring to you is not even laughable... it's just unhealthy.
Your a therapist now?
How come?
But you prolly need to consult one. And by the way, do you remember the story of that dvp guy from Teon?
Corrected back. And in future, please try to refrain from making me look like a idiot.
PVP in MMO's isn't so complicated either. I find both PVE and PVP to be basically different from their counterparts in other games, because here in the MMO it isn't about pure skill in fighting techniques. It's about how well your coordinate everything -- like establishing a good source of adena to get the right gear, working together well as groups of players to increase the power of the group, overall strategy, etc etc.
In light of that, very little has to do with individual skill. Which is what people seem to overlook when arguing and especially trash talking opponents in PVP. Because PVP can also be incredibly simple. Players + Gear + Level (hence leveling time per individual) = strength of the clan in a siege or something. If I have a job in real life whereas someone else doesn't, so I decide I still want to play the game, and play it casually, but not competitively because I couldn't hope to match up with the guy without the job... then why don't I have the right to play that way? Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, someone could still come around and PK me as a casual player and although it could be "mean", it's legal and has to be accepted. But that PK'er isn't going to stop me from playing the way I chose to play.
Also due mention does need to be given that there is a lot of skill still involved in a MMO, but most of it is skill anyone can obtain if they try
Not me, obviously. PvE in L2 is as hard (or as easy) as you want it to be. As opposed to PvP, which, frankly, is mediocre compared to pure PvP games, even to computer ones.
Why would you want to make PvE hard? What the hell is the point in that? "No, we dont want you Mr PR.. we want our PvE HARD!"... yeah ok.
Lol. If the sole reason why you are playing L2 is to "enjoy the company", how come you are calling it a "PvP" game?
This must be your first MMO... so new kid, lemme edumacate you as we use to say...
PvP MMO's survive on the community, first and foremost. Its like a big, huge soap opera. Without the drama, and all that goes along with it, the PvP turns into Halo, BF, or Quake.
How come?
But you prolly need to consult one. And by the way, do you remember the story of that dvp guy from Teon?
Are you really going to bring up DVP when you obviously know jack sh*t about him?
He killed a guy, for absolutely NOTHING in game related. Nice job trying to talk like you know something though.
..........
Whats next? Gonna disrespect the guy who died? I woudnt be suprised.

Making PvE hard makes it chalenging and FUN!
Not everyone plays a nuker or archer that can solo almost everywhere...some play healers (can't solo very well) other play dwarfs (slow lvlers) and others play tanks (also slow lvlers). If you combine the classes that is lvling slow in a party you can have some fun PvEing in places you never could solo or duo in.
But why am I wasting my time on this...it looks like PvE and fun doesn't exist in your vocabulary.
I have seen what you call PvP...4vs1 and they call in a good fight lol or 3vs3 and one side BSoE...
Lol. If the sole reason why you are playing L2 is to "enjoy the company", how come you are calling it a "PvP" game?

I will ask you again since you completly ignored me earlier
How can a game that is based 70% on PvE grind and 30% PvP be considered a PURE PvP game (yes I am talking about Lineage2)? If it was 30% PvE and 70% PvP I would had agreed with you.
How did you get to your high lvl (noble, hero)? Didn't you PvE to get that status? Isn't your clan doing PvE when killing RBs? Don't you get your adena/mats/keymats/items from PvE?
Have your daughter to play your char in FoG, deep inside Imeprial Tomb, Pagan Temple, DvC, MoS, Dino Island...you will find your char deleveled within an hour...So please saying that PvE is never hard and that it is easier than PvP is 923.

Where do you make up these completely fabricated numbers is my question?
If I level from 1-40 in a week, and get 20-30 PvP's, am I PvP'ing or PvE'ing more?
Who says you *must* level up to 76 to PvP? Do you honestly think that not a one of us PvP'ing in NG, D, C, B or A gear?
How did you get to your high lvl (noble, hero)? Didn't you PvE to get that status? Isn't your clan doing PvE when killing RBs? Don't you get your adena/mats/keymats/items from PvE?
Of course you PvE'ed to get it, that dosent mean you were so focused in 1-78 that you didnt PvP a *single time* does it? Of course not. Your %'s are laughable at best.
As for RB's, uh no? They are worthless and have been for awhile unless its a Epic/Subclass boss. Sorry if killing 10 of them and getting 14 Drac Bow Shafts is your idea of a good day.. it aint.

Actually she has (shrugs). Shes played in the Pytan room (we use to do it with 1 archer <me> SWS+BD+Bishop+PP+SE), as well as played on the bridge as a puller for awhile.
You'd only touch Dino if your looking for books, you certainly would not exp there.. which makes me wonder why you brought it up, you think thats good exp? 0.o.
You fail, make up more fantastical %'s and post like you know. Maybe you did 70% PvE 30% PvP (well, looking at your characters it was more like 99.9% PvE 0.01% PvP) but some of us dont.

Without the PvP you could had done 1-40 in 4-5 days including the quests.
I have been PvPing with some of my alts only to get PKed by their mains in S grade...some even came with a high lvl dagger and leathal striked me so they could PK me with their alts and call it good fight...if that is PvP then I prefer to do PvE where the mobs don't cheat.
If you PvP more than you PvE at high lvls 7x then you will slowly but surerly drop back down to 6x if you die alot in PvP and take 4% instead of the sissy 1% war penalty + clann hall rez or bishop rez.

It was the Epic/Subclass bosses that I ment...Also raiding with 50-200 other players is fun to do once in a while to get a change...I don't give a **** about the exp nor the drops...
Have your daughter to play your char in FoG, deep inside Imeprial Tomb, Pagan Temple, DvC, MoS, Dino Island...you will find your char deleveled within an hour...So please saying that PvE is never hard and that it is easier than PvP is 923.
Next time you are in the Pytan room try without SwS, BD, Bishop, PP and SE...everyone can exp there with all those buffs and heals...even a char in ng at lvl 30 lol
Is exp the only thing you are thinking about when you are PvEing? For me and I bet for many others FUN comes way ahead of exp so if you have FUN at Dino Island then why not go there...you said for yourself that you don't have to be in S grade to PvP...
With the char not characters I have in my signature I have 1 PvP point that I got against a bot enforcer that tried to train me. For me PvP is like a drop of water in the ocean.
I could have done it that fast yeah, but I'd have died of being bored. The ol Dion ganking is fun, and the reds keep things very lively (if you are one of em, its even more fun..)
As for the "sissy 1%.." <laugh>. So now, its wrong to have a Bishop on hand to get his rez + CW + Clan Skill Luck?
Thats called being prepared, something your not doing I guess?

Why would I drop all those classes? The people who play support deserved to be leveled fast dont they? Just as much as any Archer? Next your going to tell me not to hunt with SS to make it harder.. or maybe I should go get a short bow and hunt with that right?
Your hypocrisy is astounding.
What does Dino Island have to do with PvP? You PvP'ing the trex's yo?
LOL @ Your PvP point. You are the sole reason they made EQ.. feel special, real special.
Some players enjoy PvE and find some of the PvE areas in the game to be a challenging sort of fun. Some do not. <Shakes head, shrugs> Why not just leave it at that?
Not me, obviously. PvE in L2 is as hard (or as easy) as you want it to be. As opposed to PvP, which, frankly, is mediocre compared to pure PvP games, even to computer ones.
Why would you want to make PvE hard? What the hell is the point in that?
To have fun? Why else to play the mostly PvE game?
"No, we dont want you Mr PR.. we want our PvE HARD!"... yeah ok.
What makes you think that an archer group PvE cannot be challenging? Like an A-grade non-prophecy archer group cleaning the L-room and pulling the boss from the room nearby?
Lol. If the sole reason why you are playing L2 is to "enjoy the company", how come you are calling it a "PvP" game?
This must be your first MMO...
This is just not the first company for me to enjoy.
How come?
But you prolly need to consult one. And by the way, do you remember the story of that dvp guy from Teon?
Are you really going to bring up DVP when you obviously know jack sh*t about him?
He killed a guy, for absolutely NOTHING in game related.
He was drunk. He was aggressive. He was agitated by a conflict carried on from "enjoying the company" of another Teon player.
His victim had no direct relations to that confilct, although being an L2 player too.
Whats next? Gonna disrespect the guy who died? I woudnt be suprised.
As if you got any stuff about me in this thread right...
As a player, I make the following rules for clans that want me:
I don't write applications. If they don't even know me, they aren't worth my time and efforts.
I must be able to kill anyone and anything at any time for any reason. This is something very important to me before choosing a clan.
That's all ^^ for everything else I will follow the clan's own rules. I think if a clan can give this much freedom and trust to their members, then the members will forever be loyal to the clan in return :)
