Nuker Healer Team

My best mate and I live nextdoor to eachother and recently he has gotten bored with WOW

I have played lineage several times now and played a necro to level 50 once.

My question is: Since I am wanting to go necro, he was thinking about going bishop to heal me because thats what he was in WOW. He says he really enjoys healing and that seemed to be the most promising class. Are we gonna be screwed on this setup?

And also, what would be the optimum gear setup for us in:

D class?
C class?
B class?

Thanks guys
Have him make a EE if he likes to heal.

You get recharge, good heals, clarity, pow, party return, high % rez

D gear:

for u knowledge and sol
for him elven mithral for him weapon doesnt matter

C gear:

for u either karmian or demon and a homu
for him karmian a mysterious sword acu both

B gear:

for u avadon robe set high enchant homu or a wizard tear
for him blue wolf robe set he can stay with a mysterious sword actually

O and forgot to mention EE's cast REALLY FAST =P
Biships no recharge = :(
For lower levels, EE isn't bad for a meleeing summon either. And once you get CDL...
Um, the Shillien Elder doesn't have the greatest/fastest heals, but you will do better for leveling with one. Wild Magic and Empower are the best buffs for a nuker. And an SE has recharge.

You don't need to level with a summon as a Necro, so Melee buffs are irrelevant.
True if ur friend goes SE ull lvl faster with emp and WM but EE's are much more useful later on especially in a clan enviroment imo

but the less xp per hour can be offset by a higher xp rez so iuno

Your bound to die a few times right? =P

i think its like a ~80% rez right? someone correct me if im wrong
SE is your only choice for a mage duo.

EE's are a entirely diffrent beast and would be better suited in (as already said) a clan enviroment. Very good in Archer Parties too.
I don't see nuker + healer duo as a very good match, actually.

Nukers by design aren't s'posed to get hit -- that's why they can go to battle in pajamas, cuz the bad guys are dead so fast. So there's no healing to be done, certainly not in the way a WoW priest/paladin/drood heals.

What the nuker needs is buffs + recharge. The EE can do that, but the SE does the nuker buffs a bit better.

EE is an okay recommendation, but I think the better recommendation is for the OP and his sweetie to compromise on what they're wanting to do.
Don't forget folks that EE's have WM, also. Not to mention a little thing called Clarity. If they like healers (and not just buffer/recharger), your friend would enjoy the EE much more than the SE. Yes, the SE has Empower, but SE's are not nearly the healer an EE is.

If a nuker duo needs more healing than a SE can provide, they need the EE's party-return, not Major heal. :p

A SE in a nuker duo is just too boring for anyone who wants to play a healer.

You don't need to play L2 at all. But if you want to have fun in PvE groups, playing a Necro as a summoner isn't bad.

I guess you've never seen what an EE can do just with Trance :p

I completely forgot they got WM too ty for pointing that out =P
Here we go again with the fun over factor thing again (LOL)

A SE will level a Necro faster then a EE, its really that simple. Clarity or not, 55%+ to M.atk is too much to ignore.

Dont confuse him by telling him crap, just admit the basic truth that a SE will level it quicker then a EE.
unless he dies in his 60's a few times with no brezzes =/

20% rez ftl

and actually take into account how many more times he will die on his way to 60 brezzes are expensive at close to a mil a piece

I guess if u have access to alot of brezzes and or access to a clan hall which not all players have
Nuker + healer duo?

Destroyer + Bishop of course! :p
... wait a second... people in white coat at the door...
OMG This is a new guy - don't confuse him with your "play for the fun of it " only argument.
SE although not the best healer is without ANY doubt the best healer for a necro, whether the necro has the summon out or not.

W/o summon, Empower/Recharge is the only way to go. With Empower it will be very difficult to CDL. Later on, it will be difficult to 2-shoot mobs without empower. Not to mention the fact that curse bones cost a lot of money, so hit a mob more than 2x is really expensive...
With summon, the SE's buffs are much better (attack oriented).

Altough an EE is maybe more fun to play, the difference between leveling with an SE and leveling with an EE is huge.

Suggestion: Many people 2-box in this game. If this is an option for u, get a second account. Have your friend make an EE, you necro and on 3rd account have an SE. All you would need her for is empower (and her offensive buffs if you use the summon).
OR
Join a clan/make friends with an SE. SE/EE/Necro can still level decently with CDL. EE heals/recharges - SE roots/buffs.

A SE in a nuker duo is just too boring for anyone who wants to play a healer.

Well, they ARE playing a duo, and that is the best match. Why gimp them? A nuker can 2 shot almost anything with the proper buffs and whatever class the other guy plays, he isn't going to be doing much.

Playing a SE and an EE is no different in a duo except they have a couple skill differences, and the nuker's matk will be gimped with the EE. An SE is still a healer class and everyone knows how bad we need live ones in this game. Why discourage someone from playing one as a main? Especially when they can maximize their XP and not have to worry about heals at all. Just recharging and buffs.

You don't need to play L2 at all. But if you want to have fun in PvE groups, playing a Necro as a summoner isn't bad.

I've used my Summon when it is necessary, and that wasn't until I hit my 70s and was grinding on x2, x3, x4, and x5 mobs. Yes, it's fun, but it is expensive at low levels. Advising someone leveling up a new Necro to use their Summon is pretty horrible advice.

If he wanted to play a Summoner, he should play a real one. Then I'd suggest a WC or Prophet duo.
A nuker needs empower, plain and simple. Only use a EE if you feel like buying empower scrolls constantly. IMO. Or if you already have a SE XD
LoL... long time since I saw such a messed up thread ^^
SE. Only duo toon for a nuker. Anyone tells you different is hurting you for some unknown agenda.

SE+Nuker. End of the discussion. (by the way, I'm a nuker)

Nuker + healer duo?

Destroyer + Bishop of course! :p
... wait a second... people in white coat at the door...

ROFL, washtak. :)
ok well he rerolled SE

So what should his d c , b gear setup be?

SE. Only duo toon for a nuker. Anyone tells you different is hurting you for some unknown agenda.

Take a look at the post history of those posting that and you'll find indeed they are furthering their own agenda at the cost of what could be a potential customer.

Lord knows how hard it is to level a 60+ nuker without Empower. Might as well just /quit right now.
gear i posted should b the same with a SE as with a EE get +4 wit -4 men tats too SE cast slow as hell

ok well he rerolled SE

So what should his d c , b gear setup be?

OK, so he rolled an SE.

Real quick, I would like to say two things:

1. SE is the best choice for a nuker/healer duo.

2. EEs are way more fun end-game and lots of SEs reroll because most people have a boxed SE tagging along.

So, if you two just want to level together and that's it - then he can do SE. If, however, he thinks he might want to get involved in the game more - be in a clan, participate in pvp, etc. - an EE might be more fun for him. And while it's not as good, it is possible for an EE to level with a nuker w/o empower - I have the worst possible combination (EE + SpS) and I still get good xp per hour. I did about 75% of my leveling from level 64 on in a duo w/ my SpS. So it works fine. (Better than some crappy groups I've been in...)

OK, anyway -

<ul type="square"> D Grade - Knowledge set (can help nuke in EG) or Mithril Robes (if playing as healer) ; weapon doesn't really matter
C Grade - Divine or Karmian ; Homu w/ Acumen SA (you can keep this all the way to 75+ if you want)
B Grade - Blue Wolf ; Homu or Sword of Valhalla w/ Acumen
A Grade - Majestic ; Homu or Sword of Miracles w/ Acumen SA
se is without a doubt the best duo partner for a nuker
that being said it has to be the most boring class to play in game and it definitely aint a healer
Honestly, I think the best solution is if the OP would have agreed to play a class that's more compatible with a healer (bishop or EE if there's a fixation on pointy ears).
well if the AOE nerf is as bad as it sounds no class in game will need a healer for anything except raids

A SE will level a Necro faster then a EE, its really that simple.

That's only half of the truth, though.

The second half is that the guy who wants to play a healer and has been bored with playing a healer in WoW won't be levelling his SE past 52.
hmm thats very true lol
If you get bored in wow, then unless you really like the pvp system of this game/graphics... ull get bored really fast

Suggestion: Many people 2-box in this game. If this is an option for u, get a second account. Have your friend make an EE, you necro and on 3rd account have an SE. All you would need her for is empower (and her offensive buffs if you use the summon).

+1 I dont want to say this but I play a SE as a main and box an EE. You get the best of two worlds and can go out and nuke undead when you get bored of only buff and resharge youre friends necro!
Well off course the best duo will be necro+se. But your friend will be borred like hell.
Also my main is not EE or SE, I played both and EE is more fun to play imo.
Btw I know some duo nuker EE wich still do that at high level and do real good.

The best solution would be duo necro/EE for the fun of both of you with may be empower scroll or boxed se.

se is without a doubt the best duo partner for a nuker
that being said it has to be the most boring class to play in game and it definitely aint a healer

You know I really wish people would stop making this comment.

Yes SE's heal is lower then a Bishops or EE's heal, but as a Poler, and a melee player I'd die with out having VR, and HoT....I party quite often with a bishop.

And you kow what, all he does in major heal cause it's more mp effectant. But cause he does that and I have more then 3 mobs on me I need to pop GHP to keep my HP up while he heals someone else. HoT effect from SE is great to me, I love it, and its totally undermind by many players. specially on the boards.

Take a Necro with BtM, let him get to half HP, throw a HoT on him, btm, nuke, and still have more HP trickling in to build that BtM, HoT + CDL off of. What am I saying, almost no one even understands what I'm talking about, only like 1% of the L2 players know how to truly play a Necro with 0 down time.

Empower scroll + fast heals, 85% rez (max EE rez), WM, clearity, + acument pots = pretty good grind. FoTD + VoS = 90% nuker zoones easy to find a nuker there with a trailing boxed SE to trade buffs, don't forget emp herbs and mp pot herbs.
The problem people are having here is they insist that he should go SE because you'd level faster. What they're not understanding is he wants to be a "Healer". A SE is more of a buffer / healer hybrid. SE is not the class to be if you want to be a "Healer".

If he wants to be a "Healer" (Yes, I'm going to quote this every time to get the point accross) and still be efficient partying with a nuker, he should go EE.

And Matsumoto, don't forget to take into account that VR is being nerfed for pole arms next patch.

But anyways, he rolled an SE, nothing to really argue about anymore. I just felt I needed to get my 2 cents in.

You obviously have no idea what an EE is short of saying when a SE's petty heal removes Fire Chant from the EE's buffbar.

And by the way, EE's top rez is 80%, not 85%.
I play EE as my main and if he wants to be useful for nuker and also be a healer, be useful in pvp, then I'd suggest definitely an EE.

Open fields drop so many empower herbs that when I'm playing with my alt I have it almost always on anyways and EEs clarity, wm and rezzes are imho much more worth it in longer run + their prophecy is pretty nice for nukers.

I can't do the decision for someone else, but I think if he likes healing, SE is not a good choice in higher levels.
When you level your nuker, what is it which determines your hunting/exp speed? Having a high Matk helps, but it is not the constraint, so emp is nice but not critical..which means you don't want your pal as an SE.

What then? What constrains the nuker? Mana. Your mana supply determines how fast your exp. So you really have a couple of solutions. One is an EE/SE recharger. The other (less common) solution is a healer/BTM ...body to mind... route. It works like this:

You hit BtM as soon as it resets, constantly. Between mobe, during mobs, while walking...every moment that BtM resets you click it. Over the course of the day you get an immense amount of mana and you hunt non-stop, even better than if you have an EE or SE recharging. But how can you do this?

BISHOP

The Bishop is the best healer in the game, generating more HP per heal while having an excellent MP regeneration rate and Invocation. You hit BtM and the Bishop heals you. You kill and hit BtM as fast as you can in a fast-spawn high Exp spot and the bishop keeps you full of HP (which means mana) forever. A spellhowler/bishop combo is certainly in the running for the fastest exp duo in the game.

Some people might poo-poo this post, but I'll bet money that they are people who have never tried it. Once you remove the mana constraint on your hunting, the only thing that slows you down is how many shots you can carry (and the bishop helps thes) and your bladder.
You havent played a nuker up around 70 if you think Empower isnt required.

Heck, even 60 its required. Sure 52 you dont need it, 40 you sure as hell dont need it, but get real.

Solo'ing in hot springs or (god forbid) CDL'ing in higher exp places without empower? Good..freaking..luck.

There isnt a mana constraint in a SE/Necro relationship. The SE should naturally be picking up all mana herbs (more efficient) while the Necro picks up all life herbs and uses it to B2M.

You can go forever... been there, done that.

When you level your nuker, what is it which determines your hunting/exp speed?

It depends on many factors. Sometimes your exp speed is limited just by the mob respawn rates.

1-shotting instead of 2-shotting and 2-shotting instead of 3-shotting helps too. In both the MP efficiency of XP and the ability to manage social mobs in tight spots.

Over the course of the day you get an immense amount of mana and you hunt non-stop, even better than if you have an EE or SE recharging. But how can you do this?
BISHOP

About the same as if you have an EE, actually. But if you are into the most expensive ways to play a Necro/Healer duo, how about:

Does anyone know if Gloom/Mass Gloom increases chances of Lethal Strike from Turn Undead or not?

:p

You havent played a nuker up around 70 if you think Empower isnt required.

I've soloed the weakest nuker in the game, EE, up around 70. Empower helps, sometimes alot (depending on scarcity of herb drops), but is definitely not required.

Post your % gained per hour so we can all have a laugh then.

Yes its required, dont fool anyone otherwise..unless you want to spend over a year going from 70-&gt;75.
Emp is definately not required I see alot of necros xping in vos without an SE And they do just FINE lol kill hell of alot faster than me...im a sws with a boxed pp

SE's major skill for nukers comes in the form of a herb so you wont be missing much IMO unless you want to hunt 2x or 4x hp mobs

I would suggest your friend reroll an EE before he puts too much work into the SE

So many boxed SE's and thers a reason ther boxed...There boring as hell to play, gl tho your friends gonna get bored real fast =P

Emp is definately not required I see alot of necros xping in vos without an SE.

Yes because you cant get Empower from a Clan Hall or a scroll so they MUST be exp'ing without it RIGHT?

Jesus. Walk up, ask, you might learn something.

W/E I guess, the guy made the right decision regardless of you tools telling him to roll a EE and be utterly gimp.
whos boreing to play? its up to you how you play your clas, every class can be boring for someone else...

anyway, he should go EE or BP, if he wants to heal
He prob does have emp b/c of the massive amount of herbs that drop ther which was my point...
I know... why not just duo the SE with a EE. And no more problems.. :P

There isnt a mana constraint in a SE/Necro relationship.

So true. Death Spike is so cheap compared to other nukes (although you pay for that benefit in Cursed Bones). Even at level 74, Death Spike costs only 50 mp compared to the other nukers main spells which cost 69. 19 MP does make a difference.

The SE should naturally be picking up all mana herbs (more efficient) while the Necro picks up all life herbs and uses it to B2M.

Sure . . . but who takes the time to click on each individual drop, especially when they sometimes stack on top of each other? I just spam the pickup button so I can move onto the next mob ASAP.

I see what you are saying, though. The MP converted from a Recharge to a nuker with Mana Gain is way more MP efficient. One could just let the SE do all the pickup.

I've soloed the weakest nuker in the game, EE, up around 70. Empower helps, sometimes alot (depending on scarcity of herb drops), but is definitely not required.

At 68, it was 3% to 6% during daytime (depending on luck with herb drops), slightly less at night... FotD, the hill behind Hardin, top B+3 weapon, selfbuffs, grocery magic haste pots, no Int tattoos, no HMG (doh!), no Clear Mind, no BtM, range 400 (doh!) nukes.

And when I managed to have Emp buff (and 2-shot most mobs instead of 3-shotting while waiting for Emp herb), it became 4% to 6%. So, not a big deal, even less so for a nuker+EE duo, which gets 3+ times more herbs per buffround than a soloing EE does.

W/E I guess, the guy made the right decision regardless of you tools telling him to roll a EE and be utterly gimp.

Yeah no joke. Or the BTM and bishop thing, why make life painful for yourself? I'd rather get a recharge for like 180 mp than BTM, BTM, BTM and get a heal. Esp with herbs everywhere.

You don't need to play L2 at all. But if you want to have fun in PvE groups, playing a Necro as a summoner isn't bad.

90% of the groups I do on my Necro are DD groups, and I can solo with Cursed Man in high'ish floors of TOI with SE buffs (Vampiric Rage, most baseline DD buffs, and Greater Heals to supplement my Servitor Heal which does ~500 HP Heal a cast). I can do well in a catacomb also, thanks to my superb crowd control skills (Sleep, Anchor, Discord, Fear, etc.).

Necros ahve built-in Clarity unless they are CDL'ing. Death Spike is ~20 MP a cast less than the true nukers' main nukes. Only SH has that skill, but Necro doesn't have a choice on what they use so you always benefit from it (and always hunt in places where there are relatively little to no Dark Resist mobs).

SE &gt; EE for a Necro. Clarity is a commodity. Empower is compulsory. If you ever choose to use a servitor (even for PvP solo/duo with the live SE) you will appreciate what the SE brings alot more than the EE.

You can get Acumen/WW in a bottle... But I doubt you are willing to shell out the adena to get Empower in a scroll (650-800k Adena for a scroll, maybe more?). You're better off rolling SE and buying some BSOEs, IMO.

Well off course the best duo will be necro+se. But your friend will be borred like hell.

A friend of mine played an SPS and his girlfriend played an EE. He was always PMing me so I can run halfway across Valley of Saints to Emp3 him.

Clarity is nice and all, but you can get it from Hot Springs in an even better form in 7x which is the only time you will really find yourself needing it as a necro - since up until then you will not be used to the MP cost of nukes that are = cost to other nukers (DS is very cheap compared to the other nukes).

SE also has Holy Resistance which will help you in high levels when you are killing Dark Weak mobs in places like MoS/TOI/WoA. Yes, the buff is useful - just like Unholy Resist is useful to polers.

With a same level SE (or very close in levels) the Necro won't be going OOMP anyways in 4x-6x levels. Death Spike is low MP cost compared to other nukers' nukes.

For a level 74 Spellhowler:

Death Spike: 50 MP
Hurricane: 69 MP

... for example.

At 7x when CDL becomes your "best" XP method you can get Clarity and more Cast Speed from hot springs easily. Summon a Corrupted Man and tank/melee it until you get Level 4, then Anchor it and kill.

Also, some people don't care to B2M while they're leveling because when the SE is near your level it can fill up your MP bar in about 30-40 seconds chain recharging you. This is sometimes more efficient when you're hunting in herb-dropping areas because it sucks to be nearing the end of a buffround and have the SE go low on mana keeping your MP up high and then have a Greater/Superior Herb of Mana drop from a mob.

You havent played a nuker up around 70 if you think Empower isnt required.

I've soloed the weakest nuker in the game, EE, up around 70. Empower helps, sometimes alot (depending on scarcity of herb drops), but is definitely not required.

EE is tied to sacred weakness, and their "nukes" are balanced so that they gain nothing from their sacred weakness over a nukers main nuke (low power). Also, EEs cannot +INT with tatoos. Terrible comparison, IMO, especially since they removed self-recharge and you are left only with Invocation (which is cancelled if you are attacked).

Empower makes a HUGE difference. We're talking the difference between 900'ish M.Atk on a 7x Necro to 1.7k'ish M.Atk on a 7x Necro. If you don't think you need Empower then good luck. You cannot CDL at Hot Springs without Empower 3, whatsoever. Emp1/2 won't even do it with Zerk unless you have an Overenchanted Sword of Miracles (or +3 interlude top A weapon). You'd have to wait until S Grade.

Empower is a compulsory buff for a solo nuker IMO. Doing it any other way it your choice. No one is forcing you to be a more efficient leveler.

P.S. Wow, I'm spamming this thread, eh?

I've soloed the weakest nuker in the game, EE, up around 70. Empower helps, sometimes alot (depending on scarcity of herb drops), but is definitely not required.

EE isn't a nuker, you should make friends with polers or nukers.

But most nukers don't need EEs at 7x because their Clarity buff is outclassed by Hot Springs Malaria, which is 16% mana preservation at level 10 and lasts 1 hour/3 buff rounds!!!

Since you'll be leveling right near the mobs that give it to you, you can ALWAYS have it.

No need for EE. If you wanna level fast 77/78+ then I suggest you find a good clan and join some Nuker/AE/Pole groups - anyways...

Yea... I reply as I read through the thread. You can see that some people wrote some of the info (like DS MP cost facts) after the threads I replied to :P

EDIT: That, and I'm kinda bored atm :)
true SE is better than EE for necro duo, but SE is so **** boring to play, and it sucks for healing. and EE is a lot more fun to play, if he havent played the game before you wont feel the bad side of not having empower (from SE)

Go EE imo, best class ever :)

This really has less to do with SEs and VR than it does with the fact that your friend doesn't know how to play a bishop and/or your group doesn't know how to keep aggro on one person.

SE can be just as fun if actually learn to play it. In fact, I tend to think the lack of uber heals on the SE makes them funner because it helps them avoid being locked into one defined role in parties/PvP. If EEs didn't have Party Recall, half of them would be Bishops - I bet (which is by far a "funner" healer to play than EE - so many skill choices).
Funner is not a word. &gt;.&lt;

And Party Recall has absolutely nothing to do with me being an EE. I enjoy the unique combination of hp and mp management that an EE has, as well as the ability to do crowd control w/ trance. (Yes, I know Bish also have trance...)

How many times do I actually have to PR my party? It's more a convenience than a necessity (oh, I forgot to buy SOEs! Oh, nvm, we have PR!) You could take PR away and I'd still prefer EE over Bish.
Yeah EE's are great honestly, I was asked to play one at a siege some time ago and I said sure that's cool, one heal/rez; how hard can it be? (major heal/rez) ::runs::

Seriously I'd feel like I'd be missing half my fingers playing an EE as a healer, after being a bishop for so long. To each his own though I guess.
You wanna be a healer?! Be a fricken Phantom Summoner, they get an awsome healing summon AND they can do everything else that normal healers can't do (aka massive damage). This way you don't have to rely souly on the necro, the summoner can do great dmg, reducing your cost of cursed bones big time.

Phantom Summoner = best healing class (they never run out of MP to heal with, no other class can say that, it is impossible for them to)... note I said healing class, not buffing :P
When they can outheal me in a siege or pvp I'll sign up.

When they can outheal me in a siege or pvp I'll sign up.

Amen.

Bishop's rule ;D
Paladin - best healur evar! :)

Funner is not a word. &gt;.&lt;

Self-recharge is gone. What form of MP management do EEs have that is &gt; that of a Bishop or SE - apart from higher Base MP Regen rate (higher Base MEN)?

Oh ya, the Clarity that everyone else can get from Hot Springs...

Well, surely malaria+clarity stacks? Also you forgot about Prophecy of Water, that gives mp regen, in addition to its other stuffs.
mp regen from pow is lol

EE isn't a nuker, you should make friends with polers or nukers.

You've missed the point. I have no problem finding a group, and I prefer groups to soloing, I just don't want to pretend that the group has found a healer when I've logged there just for a hour or two.

The point was: even for a nuker with so low MAtk, so bad MP management and so small choice of spots, Emp3 as a buff is not a big deal in levelling speed. Although having it is indeed nice.

But most nukers don't need EEs at 7x because their Clarity buff is outclassed by Hot Springs Malaria, which is 16% mana preservation at level 10 and lasts 1 hour/3 buff rounds!!!

Lol. Just yesterday I (on my academy alt) happened to help an EO with a class change quest. The EO was going to be a second recharge box for a Stormscreamer  in addition to already existing SE 74.

Since you'll be leveling right near the mobs that give it to you, you can ALWAYS have it.

Just in case you didn't know... you won't be levelling on green mobs past 78 in CT1.

Oh ya, the Clarity that everyone else can get from Hot Springs...

I'm yet to see an IT archer group going to HS for malaria for their BD, lol.

Mmm, cant speak bout your server, but we always try to hit HS when we log in before grouping to get our appropriate buffs.

Depending upon where we are we dont SoE out when they wear off, but for sure have em on when you go.

Why not? To ignore it is just silly, especially with how good the caster based ones are.

Does your server even PvP with them? :X

Man I really gotta see a PS in action some time...

Long lasting PvP as in a siege or massive clan vs clan battle in some dungen. ;) I think any healer could do a good job in tank vs tank action, even a pally could do some impressive stuff there.

And may I remind you that this is a duo, the healer only needs to heal one person. would be better instead of having a pure healer that just sits on the side-lines, you could have an active healer capable of dishing out almost as much dmg as the necro and keeping both himself (or herself) alive along with the necro. Which is better?

I would love to see a bishop take on a catacomb room like a PS can while keeping his/her party alive.... *chuckles slightly*
Well, as I understand it the nightshade heals by sacrificing their HP to do their heals. So yes they never run out of MP, but they run out of HP, no? At least until their player runs out of mp healing the hp lost. Unless I'm getting this wrong.

You are getting it wrong, when he runs out of HP, you simply resummon him. Most Phantom summoners have fast-casting build, so resummoning takes a split second and realitvly no MP. ;)
wow that's pretty awesome actually - its like having invocation at any time u want O.o

really good for raidbosses i guess - especially in rift where outside support isn't possible
Alright then so how much does it heal for max? I can do like 1400 or so major heal

Long lasting pvp? like tank vs tank? XD

Well, a better main heal than SE has. An SE spamming Battleheal still has better HPS, though not for long (MP issues). And of course an SE has buffs.

A PS and an SE healing together can replace a leaving EE in L-room archer group.

And may I remind you that this is a duo, the healer only needs to heal one person.

Up to 3, actually. Necro, summon, healer.

would be better instead of having a pure healer that just sits on the side-lines, you could have an active healer capable of dishing out almost as much dmg as the necro and keeping both himself (or herself) alive along with the necro. Which is better?

1. You are over-estimating DD abilities of Nightshade.
2. SE has buffs.
3. Neither EE nor Bishop have much time for sitting in minigroups on tightly packed fat mobs, especially undead ones.

I would love to see a bishop take on a catacomb room like a PS can while keeping his/her party alive.... *chuckles slightly*

There are Bishops duoing in large Rift rooms. Actually, there is at least one Bishop soloing a large Rift room on Hinde :p
Go for SE and necro combo, it has heals to help with keeping alive, root, and most important buffs for mage and recharge.

Setup:
D - any robes you can get, e.g. clan oath is good enough for those levels, you level fast anyway. Preferred is Knowledge for mage and Elven Mithril set for SO. Preferred weapons are some mage staves, like Staff of Life, Sword of mystic fog, ...
C - Divine or Karmian for SE, Demon for mage. Get Homunkulus with Acumen, and Stick of Faith/Mana up for SE. SE may have a little MP problems at those levels, so mana Up weapon should be good. Conversion is too harsh at C grade and Acumen is OK but then again, Not enough MP on SE may occur.
B - Sword of Valhalla/Acumen (Or you can keep Homu is you do not have Adena yet) and Avadon robes for Necro. Casting speed is now very important, since you discover the magic world of CDL now :p BW for SE, cast speed + MP bonus. Give him/her some Acumen weapon (Mysterious sword, Homunkulus, Mace of nature, Valhalla Sword)
First off, it is a Duo, a summon isn't a person, it is a person-controlled minion. There are only 2 people sitting at computers... but this is trival, why did you even bring it up? O_o

1. You are over-estimating DD abilities of Nightshade.
2. SE has buffs.
3. Neither EE nor Bishop have much time for sitting in minigroups on tightly packed fat mobs, especially undead ones.

Healing and buffing abilities are quite different, I specifically said the PS is exceptional at healing, not buffing (It has not buffs...) And you don't DD with Nightshade, takes only a split second to summon a different demon, say soulless, who can do massive damage and then switch back to Nightshade if you need healing. Nightshade also has a debuff to lower the target's Mdef, he is a great partner to any nuker.

Actually, there is at least one Bishop soloing a large Rift room on Hinde :p

Well, good for him, but he can't do damage like a PS, not even close and you are pretty much limited to undead areas.

Also, someone asked about how much he heals.... it depends what lvl nightshade is, when he was lvl 63 he could heal for 1,200ish. It increases as he levels-up.

Don't under estimate the Phantom Summoner class. Odds are none of you have even seen a good phantom summoner in action, let alone ever played one. Sad fact :(

First off, it is a Duo, a summon isn't a person, it is a person-controlled minion. There are only 2 people sitting at computers... but this is trival, why did you even bring it up?

You have 3 targets to heal if you are a healer partying with a necro as a summoner. And one of these targets (necro's summon) is not very easy to target for heals. Necro's own servitor heals are quite weak.

Healing and buffing abilities are quite different, I specifically said the PS is exceptional at healing, not buffing (It has not buffs...)

The SE has. Don't forget the additional damage that Necro and their summon could be done to that buffs. As well as the amout of healing VR provides for the Necro's servitor.

And you don't DD with Nightshade, takes only a split second to summon a different demon, say soulless, who can do massive damage and then switch back to Nightshade if you need healing.

Are you playing some private or what?

You cannot unsummon mid-fight since C5. And even if you could, there is a long list of good reasons why you should not do it in such duo.

Actually, there is at least one Bishop soloing a large Rift room on Hinde :p

Well, good for him, but he can't do damage like a PS, not even close and you are pretty much limited to undead areas.

Again, since C5 a Bishop can do crazy amounts of damage to Rift mobs. It's not cheap, but your "unsummon/summon for full HP" isn't cheap either.

Also, someone asked about how much he heals.... it depends what lvl nightshade is, when he was lvl 63 he could heal for 1,200ish. It increases as he levels-up.

Actually, it's reportedly below 800 for lvl 60 summoners and around 1100 for lvl 74. With pet BSpS.

Which is very close to what I seen when partied with PS as a secondary healer (my EE being the primary one).
Not going to go through all those points...

However, the whole three people complaint that you have is just stupid. As you play a summoner, you get very good at managing all the small details, so it is nothing to worry about yourself, you summon, and other people.

You can quickly kill off the summon and resummon it, a few nukes, or use the mobs to help you, no big deal. You haven't played a summoner, so I don't expect you to understand this very well. This is especially easy when you want to change-out nightshade, simply have him m*******e everything and the monsters provide great assistance, then you can wipe-out soulless or shadow.

I understand that Phantom Summoners don't have buffs, that is self evident, I am merely saying that they have great healing capabilities, coupled with awsome fighting capabilities. No, they are not as good as a bishop, they are close, they do all their healing in one shot, not over time like all the other healing classes, and they don't run outta MP.

Nightshade's healing is atleast around 1000 for a lvl 63 Phantom summoner, I have tested it many a time, I am sure I can pull out some screenshots if I felt motivated enough.

Main point of the phantom summoner I am trying to make: Good heals and great damage, great for a duo where you only have to worry about healing one other person and you can still assist in doing damage.

It is rather rash of you to simply write-off this class as usless just because it doesn't heal as well as a bishop. I am guessing you have little experience using it, if any. No, the phantom summoner isn't the end-all of classes, but it combines the specialties of a healer, nuker, tank (We have ultimate defense and hate, nightshade is getting a boost to Pdef in CT1), and damage dealer into one class. The PS can fill any gap in a party or duo. ;)
I thought if your servitor takes a bunch of hate from mobs and dies, the mobs then come and kick your butt. Is this still the case? It wasn't in earlier chronicles.

So in other words, nightshade pulls a ton of mobs and dies, the mobs then wipe the floor with you or at least interupt summoning soulless.

And I'd like to note I'm not trying to rag on what the PS can do, I'm just curious.
Not necessarily, if other people have built up hate on the mobs too. But if you're alone, and haven't run away, they will come for you :o

However, the whole three people complaint that you have is just stupid. As you play a summoner, you get very good at managing all the small details, so it is nothing to worry about yourself, you summon, and other people.

Lol. Necro's summon. Do I need to repeat it again?

You have your Soulless on, fighting. The Necro's summon catches some add-ons and the Necro starts spamming heals on it. What do you do?

As an EE, I target the summon (it's better to make a targetting macro if your party is constant) and see if I need to spend a Major Heal or two. That's split-second. Then I return to trancing/turning/recharging or whatever I did before.

You can quickly kill off the summon and resummon it, a few nukes, or use the mobs to help you, no big deal. You haven't played a summoner, so I don't expect you to understand this very well. This is especially easy when you want to change-out nightshade,

But actually you are suddenly in need to summon that Nightshade. So, you are trying to kil off your pet while Necro's pet is dying. Your pet is dead, Necro's is hopefully still not, you have no TP, no Concentration past 2, the mobs are on you and on Necro, Necro is running out of MP... good scenario?

GL if the mobs don't have stun, GF if they do.

Nightshade's healing is atleast around 1000 for a lvl 63 Phantom summoner, I have tested it many a time, I am sure I can pull out some screenshots if I felt motivated enough.

Look, I play a healer, I know how much my Major Heal heals for, and I see how much your Sacrifice heals for on the same HP bar. I don't need your screenshots to know that it heals for less.

It is rather rash of you to simply write-off this class as usless just because it doesn't heal as well as a bishop. I am guessing you have little experience using it, if any.

No, you just aren't trying to understand what we are saying. PS is a nice class, solo and party, but for duoing with a Necro there are better choices.

I thought you were talking about pole groups.

No PS is a worse healer than a Prophet because in a long lasting PvP it won't take long before some buffers comes around and Erases your servitor, or before some nuker/archer 2-3 shots it.
my paladin heals for more than bishop and all them so all good ^^
Ok next siege lemme play that paladin and see how long your HE sub stays alive. :P

And you can't 2-3 shot a ptophet? O_o

Btw, takes 2.5 secs to resummon, how long does it take to res that prophet or run back out to siege eh? It is very tempting to laugh at your statement... but I will be nice and hold it in. ;)

Edit: Nightshade can also use Ultimate defense... lets see yer prophet do that eh?
Lets see your Nightshade give buffs. Erase = win.

ct1 i will have

Group transfer pain on

Cast Hero zerk, with prayer on.

Touch of life myself for 15k.

Sacrifise myself for 4k-5k easy
over and over

:&gt; better than bishop any day

Touching yourself is dirty!
Who cares how a paladin can heal himself, nobody hits paladins.

Oh and does UD on a summon helps to resist Erase?
(Bishops have Erase, nobody brings an active Prophet in PvP except for oly :p)
So assuming you run into a bunch of mentally challenged pvpers that keep hitting the tank... yeah ;) Fraps that for me will ya?

And group transfer pain? hmmm I gotta see that
Group TP is first learned at lvl 58 ^^

You need to add Hate lock into it too Ellie ^^

Lets see your Nightshade give buffs. Erase = win.

The land rate of Erase is pretty low, I can usually take the healer out before she gets erase to work, usually takes 4+ tries. And if erase hits, so what? 2.5 secs and nightshade is back... how long does it take to get yer healer back up and running, do you have someone running around with your healers, resing them as soon as they get 2-3 shotted by an archer/ nuker?

And we are not talking about PvP here people, we are talking about a duo grind.... erase doesn't even enter the mix.
Erase and mana burn, seem to work _very_ well as far as I've seen.

You're right, we're not talking about PVP, we're talking about the best duo partner for a Necro, which is 100% SE, followed by EE, PP and Bishop and maybe, maybe by a PS somewhere down the line.

You dont have empower, wildmagic, ww, acumen, clarity or zerk to give. Only thing you can do is heal...
Takes 4 seconds to summon as a level 79 warlock with bsps, acu weapon, DC robes, summon lore, and arcane agility. Unless you're fully buffed, you can't do 2.5 seconds anymore. And don't even try saying you can easily switch servitors AT ALL. Please, don't.

Only thing you can do is heal...

Okay, this has reached the point of absurdity if you truely believe this... Yep, all we Phantom Summoners can do is heal... yep, no dmg, no debuffs, nope all we can do is heal.

Good god, I call a truce, this is pointless.

Are you using duals or a bow to hit? Or Windstrike? Salvation Bow?
You can hit with all you can, with your summon, whatever you want, empower or one more nuke thank to acumen and zerk will always be better.
Its good and all to be "pro" your class, but we do need to deal in reality here.

A PS is not the best choice for a Nuker. They certainly cant recharge, they dont have WM, Empower, Clarity, PoW, etc....

Thats not to say that a PS dosent have a place in the "right" circumstances, but not in this one.

Group TP is first learned at lvl 58 ^^

Ah gotcha. A hate lock, and a group transfer would put tanks back into any pvp big time.

As for the PS thing, someone already said this but I asked a level 80 AL about casting time with all the speed buffs and he also said it's like 3-4 seconds. And that's absolute optimal set up. Not to mention erase lands pretty well plus the added nuisance of being interupted with trance.. anyway.

Maybe I'll sub a PS in.. a year.. lol. Sounds interesting.

Yeah, I'm thinking, based on what little I know about Summoners, that they really are DDs first, with a bonus of having some kind of group buff or heal as a sort of nice bonus. Also, from what I've heard, if anything an ES might be better paired with a nuker, as it's seems like I've read they have Empower. But that alone, if true, would just give them one of the many things an SE has to offer to a Necro/SH/SpS/Sorc.
It's true that ES gets empower - but it's only castable on summoned servitor or pet. But yeah, I'd say ES would be a better duo for a necro than a PS, because of the seraphim buffs (or they could aoe together with merrow and corpse burst, though PS could do the latter too, now that we're discussing ridiculous concepts :p) - but not terribly useful either :D

Yup, only thing you can do is heal when the Necro is 2 shotting mobs, your summon wont have time to reach them, neither do you. Casting debuffs on mobs while duoing with a nuker is waste of MP most of the time.

And, if you wanna talk about dmg, sure, lets talk about it. You have pitiful DPS.

There is no point in me fighting with you when you have decided you are just going to hate this class. Summoners have great DPS. AT this point you have crossed out of absurdity and stumbled into a zealous craze.

A summoner using duels with the AOE summon out does very impressive damage (AoE summon just hits, the AoE nukes are kinda useless). I personally think, when soloing, summoners are the fastest grinders. I know, I know you disagree. But your precious nukers have to sit for MP and your archers are not much good soloing mobs w/o some kind of super OEed bow. Your comment above about the DPS is just plain wrong.
I don't think you understand Vhaidren.
You guys are talking about 2 different things.

You are talking only about you as a summoner and everything you say is true. You have good heals, you have good dps.
BUT
What other people are saying is that you would not be a good team for a necro. An se or ee is better simply because of recharge.

If you had an SE, and Necro and you, it would be a good team. For a necro to pve well, they need an se (or ee).
This thread is about helping someone to know what class to take for a duo with a nuker, a necro more precisely, and a healer a la WoW. The discussion was rather about how SE are more efficient but less healer than EE. We don't care about PS able to solo. That's great. We don't hate PS. We're just stating that it wouldn't fit the demand of this thread.
Just for some fun information, I went out to Valley of Saints on my 62 SH. +3 som, DC robes, nothing major. I was going for 50+ minutes UNBUFFED except for an acu2 pot that anyone can buy in magic shops before I got bored. No downtime, and I was 2shotting mobs. Same as if I had SE buffs. So as long as you find what mobs you can 2shot, an EE will work just as well as SE. Unless you're planning on CDLing, then you need emp. Nothing else will do, you NEEEEEEEED emp for CDL.
But still SE comes in handy when you move to Forest of the dead or better Hotsprings. Difference beween Empower and no Empower is more visible.

Or you havent seen real DPS and think your summon and you using duals are hot [censored]. How much you have pattk again? Combined with your summon? All I need is a GSAP pot, mobs dropping herbs and I can be running in Frenzy+Rage, putting out much more DPS than you could even dream of. And I can do that with a pole.

Secondly, a well played SH hunting in VoS/FotD does not need to sit ever for MP. Herbs, BTM and Drains coupled with mp elixirs = hunt as long as you can stay awake. Same could be said about Necromancers. As long as you 2 shot, no worries.

Show me a PS 2 shotting red, 4x HP mobs and I will change my mind about your DPS. Until then, you have pitiful DPS.

PS. If summoners are the fastest grinders, why is everyone whining about Titans poling at FoG? ;)
omg Charmille, u complain post after post about the frenze nerf and then u come and boast that u have the best dps class in game

i kinda felt sorry for destroyers, but with u boasting like that, i don't feel sorry for u one bit. Enjoy the nerf, I sure I will knowing that you won't be making posts like that anymore

and btw, summoner dps is very good - might not be as good as u with frenzy, but w/o frenzy i would bet a sumoner could outdamage a destroyer easily in single mob pve

Just for some fun information, I went out to Valley of Saints on my 62 SH. +3 som, DC robes, nothing major. SH M.Atk difference is a factor in Valley of Saints at that low level.

An SH can most probably CDL the mobs there unbuffed and 1 shot them at that level (near the Entrance area before the bridges).

A few of the mobs will be 3 shots for a Necro. My roomate is a 62 Necro, and he borrows my gear when I duo with him on my SE (who is same level).

Also, there are times when every optimal leveling spot in the area is taken (and if they allow xfers to Bartz, it will be CRAZY) and you have to go somewhere else. That somewhere else may have mobs with higher M.Def or more HP (Blazing Swamp, for example) and you will wish you had that extra M.Atk.
Frenzy cooldown timer is changing to match Rage(if we believe the same sources that we believe on pretty much all the other info)... so it will be spammable even without BD+SwS. OtB makes Titan one of the fastest classes in the game, with that and a HP build, you can have around 8k HP at 30%, at the same time running with close to 260 speed. Boom. You all died.

And until CT1, Destroyer is the number 1 DPS class. Single mob pve = 2 hits without Frenzy. Ever heard of Crush of Doom and Fatal Strike? 1x HP mobs go boom boom. And during the time it takes to run from 1 mob to another, they have recharged. Couple that with herbs and you are made of win.

My point about the nerf was that it is unrealistically harsh when combined with VR nerf(which hurts 4 classes, not just 1) and NC nerfing a lvl 32 skill, just to be able to add a lvl 79 skill is ridiculous.

OtB (Thanks Diego)

But your precious nukers have to sit for MP and your archers are not much good soloing mobs w/o some kind of super OEed bow. Your comment above about the DPS is just plain wrong.

PS. If summoners are the fastest grinders, why is everyone whining about Titans poling at FoG? ;)

The only Summoner that can probably out-level a brain-dead nuker is perhaps an AE'ing Elemental Summoner.

Phantom Summoner isn't even really competition. Warlock can be if they know what they're doing - their 10% summon doesn't drain their MP, though. Both ES and WK have Recharge Servitors, you get the VR servitor :(

Too many things hamper the PS, namely the MP drain on Soulless which forces your to take the less risky route to level. Summoner being Support + DD means they really excel at those risky leveling practices (like ESes AE'ing :p)

As far as DPS goes, you aren't leveling with Soulless so your DPS sucks. If you are in party and using Soulless and doing any type of Debuffing/casting/healing, then your MP pool will get *****. No one needs Nightshade. A necro can keep himself up with battle heals unless an archer/mage mob crits it for alot (like the CoV Mage mobs in VoS O.o, 2k crits in the 60s :p). It's a useless summon and no one wants to see the ugly piece of [censored] for hours and hours while they grind anyways.

OP: If you want a summoner just box an ES or wait until 75 and sub one. Those 2nd class change quests for summoners suck worse than probably any other that I've done.
You can level with soulless, it takes a little more preperation than leveling as an ES, but it is very easy to do. You must use doom light armor to cancel out that nasty MP drain (the MP drain only slows your MP regen, it doesn't actually drain it away) With the Doom light set bonus, the MP drain is hardly noticable and the Patk bonus is helpful.

I leveled from 61 to 64 in catacombs of the witch using soulless and myself with no oop buffer. The two cubics are incrediply helpful. The stunner works on every other mob(usually, sometimes every 3 mobs, depends how helpful it wants to be &gt;_&gt;) and the debuffing cubic pulls the teeth out of the mobs.

It is actually best to grind on high HP mobs as a PS because then you get the fullest use of your debuff attacks.

Use a GSAP and have a few GHP pots on you and you are good to go in the catas with soulless. But Doom light is a must.

and btw, summoner dps is very good - might not be as good as u with frenzy, but w/o frenzy i would bet a sumoner could outdamage a destroyer easily in single mob pve

Are you really serious about that? :X

I mean, come on here. Their DPS is good and all, but with OOP buffs, I **** sure know I kill far faster then our Warlock.... vs any mob. Especially yellow/pink/red's which he has trouble hitting with the duals. (Him having OOP buffs too of course)

Summoner DPS could best be described as "middle of the road". Certainly not the best, and certainly NOT the worst either.

LOL.

That is all I will say.

LOL indeed...

Warlocks have even higher DPS than PS, especially if they are soloing the mobs. Kai P.Atk + Reflect damage is much better. Their storm cubic actually does damage, too. Phantom Cubic doesn't always land, due to the fact that their M.Atk is rather low and fixxed as well as their levels (the level where you learn the cubic). NCSoft starts to stagger them in teh late 40s which hurts their effectiveness when used together - especially when you upgrade you grind spots often as you level (includes moving further and further into a catacomb, btw). Catacomb mobs tend to have higher M.Def than fields, too. You have no clue when the cubic lands or not and your own damage isn't a really good indicator because it's already low as hell (you can't see servitor damage either).

A Warlock will drop any mob faster than a Phantom Summoner - it's a more offensive build. ES have a different (and very nice) playstyle choice so it's hard to compare them.

You HAVE to wear Doom Light? That's the funniest thing I have heard a PS tell me. Blue Wolf Robe Set has +3 WIT and 5.26 MP Regen Bonus. I'm sure Majestic Robe Set also has a MP Regen Bonus.

Let's not only [censored] our MP Pool, let's also [censored] our HP/CP and make ourselves easier to stun with Doom Light Set! Bad for a PS, IMO, especially one that has visions of PvP :p

What was his point again?

Oh, yea... LOL.

Level 70 PS Unbuffed:

12.7 MP/Sec Regen - Maj Robes
12.2 MP/Sec Regen - BW Robes
12.1 MP/Sec Regen - Doom Light (2.5% MPR Bonus)
12.1 MP/Sec Regen - BW Light (+3 Men on this)
11.7 MP/Sec Regen - DC Robes

Tats I used:

+4 CON/-4 STR
+4 MEN/-4 INT
+2 DEX/-2 STR

Maj/BW Robes &gt; Doom Light when using Soulless for MP Regen and for keeping him alive (faster cast, more MP). Light armor is, IMO, overrated for PvE purposes on a Summoner.
