I've looked around and nowhere has anyone said anything about Nostromo. I'm wondering if, according to NCSoft, Nostromo for AUTOMATED game-play considered illegal? And which features can we or can we not use with it?
This was disussed a year or more back.
No, it is ok to use one since you are sittling behind the keyboard running it.
Just like the logitech G15 Keyboard.
What *is* shady is if you set up looped macros on the nostromo to automate something while afk. Crafts, shouts, whatever. I asked a GM if this was something you could get banned for, and he wasn't able to give me a clear answer other than "automating game play while afk is not allowed".
You certainly cant with the G15 because there isnt a way to push a number and craft, you have to click with the mouse.
Already pre-ordered the new one coming out so guess I'll see, but unless theres a way to tell it "click the mouse here, at this X/Y position on the screen.. or click here w/o moving the mouse" it'll be hard to do.
Yeah, I've been using an n52 since C2 or C3. The macro editor isn't super sophisticated, but it does have some basic options like delays and "repeat until pressed again". You can also bind keys to mouse clicks or joystick movements which you can include in macros.
That's not why I use it though. The only macros I've made are alt+f1-12 for changing hotbars. Only reason I love it is that it let's you reconfigure your key layout. I have the F1-12's set up in a QWER ASDF ZXCV fashion.
Will it let you bind a mouse click to a keypad and repeat Tarun?
You said keys to mouse clicks, but can you do it the other way around. If you can then yeah you can indeed afk craft... that would most likely instantly be bannable :P
I think it was said that if you leave your comp w/ even a rock on a key it would be considered afk interaction and would be banable. So loops would prob be a no no as well unless your sitting around watching.
Yeah, that's what I meant. You can go into the configuration thingie and basically open a dropdown list for each key on the nostromo. Included there are mouse clicks (and yeah it will just click at wherever your mouse cursor currently is). The same dropdown is available when making macros.
It was pretty clearly said by the head GM that if they come and knock on your window when using it you better answer.. If you search more you will find it here.

Nifty :) Always wondered if it would do that since its basically a keyboard & mouse.

We ban for bots. It is that simple. Dont muddle the discussion with Ventrilo/Teamspeak, AV programs, or even Keyboard Macros. The makers of Ventrilo did not have to decrypt Lineage II to make their product work. AV programs may scan game packets for particular algorithms but I don't think Norton wants to take a castle or get better at the manor system. As for fancy keyboards and mice with macro software... you will have a GM knock on your screen before you are banned for that. Honestly, if your keyboard macro runs 9 accounts at the same time you need to go out and get a programming job 'cuz you got skillz.

Greetings,
The Nostromo SpeedPad is not considered in violation of our rules, unless it is used to automate actions for your character when you are away from the keyboard. Using it to repeat shouts and/or crafts while you are not present is considered 3rd party software use and is against our rules. As long as you are present at the keyboard while using the joystick functions, you are safe and within the rules.
Thank you for contacting Lineage II support. You are welcome to use a nostromo pad to play Lineage II. You must be very careful about programming the pad to automate game play. We request that you only use the nostromo while present at your computer. We understand that many player look for ways to make game play easier by automating certain aspects of the game but if your automation ever interferes with other game play it will become a problem.
The best rule of thumb to follow is to make sure that any macro you make for your nostromo requires your presence to operate.
You will not be punished for what you have done in the past, please just make sure you are present at your computer in the future.
To this day, I haven't gotten my G15 to work properly. The Nostromo has been a great addition. I just got it 3 days ago, haven't set up any macros, but Mapped the F1-F12 in rows of four, mapped one button for the World Map, another for my inventory, and the Thumb Click is Alt. I may change it, but so far, using it with my Healer on a 2nd computer, it has saved my butt from dieing a few times last night.

!WTB junk (in macro)
have nostromo spam the F1 key every 5 seconds forever
/targetnext
/attack (in macro)
have nostromo spam the macro every 30 seconds, if you do that in a low agro low risk area you could manage to rack up some xp
automate mouse clicks on nostromo
hover the pointer over the create button and you can AFK craft yourself some SS or base mats while you sleep
not hard to see why nostromo can be considered a third party program imo

You talk about a targetnext macro, but what happens when you go afk and your nostromo targets a raid boss? I don't know any player who would recklessly walk around with a /targetnext /attack macro to begin with, not even while playing live, so I seriously doubt anyone would want a nostromo to do it for them.
PS: don't even bring up the catacomb/small room/safe area argument here. I can guarantee you not a single person with nostromo is able to exp with /targetnext /attack for longer than 20 minutes without somehow dying/getting stuck/griefed easily by players etc.
You talk about features such as craft help and shouts, that's fine, as long as you're behind the computer while using them. This has been said countless times already by the GM staff. You can use the features, but if you're suspected of running huge afk operations then you will be questioned by a GM. In that case you should be at the computer ready to answer. If it was truly a bot, you'd get a sound alert in that case. Since nostromo is just a normal gamepad, you should just be at your computer ^^
Nostromo is a great help for L2 players. No, it is definitely not a bot. It's simply a gamepad... and yes, sometimes gamepads work better than keyboards/mouses.
No, I just think it's rather dangerous how these forums are filled with suggestions from people who have never experienced the endgame. So I'll try to put things straight whenever I can.
(of course I will get flamed by some random person who did experience some form of endgame content, ETA till obvious flame = ???)

then don't place yourself next to a raid boss?

might wanna ask the average melee aoe class if they have that macro tbh

i don't recall ever saying that it was safe or good xp just pointing out that it was possible
you could place a lvl 40 in a lvl 20 area and have them be basically invincible while getting at least some xp
if you want to kick it up a notch you could also add alt-tab, F1 alt-tab to your macro to have it automatically switch to a second account and buff you which considering mob AI would make it possible for a melee to xp in 70+ areas with no risk

I know there are people that use it to assist someone else in party and can just bugger off afk and not pay attention. I do agree though that you'll probably not last too long running around solo like that. Never tried it out or put much thought into that tbh.

I think it is perhaps you that have not experienced end game..lol
I see nobody here that has stated a comment that lacks a background. Nashi's toons dont get any close than end game than you can get!
I think they are using the ketra's as the example. I don't believe I would be using this for the /targetnext type of thing.
I will have to work on the cp pot macro
#1; So someone who aoe's uses /targetnext /attack, then what, he stands still for the rest of the day? Nostromo won't gather mobs for you either.
#2; lvl40 exping in lvl20 spot would make less exp in a whole day than if he just aoe'd for 20 minutes on lvl40 mobs. I don't know anyone who would want that, even if it was automated. PLEASE spare me the comments, it's useless, just admit it.
#3; Want to run a test by getting a buffer and pressing nothing but /targetnext /attack and let's see how fast you die/get stuck/griefed?
Your comments and arguments are nothing but weak attempts at spreading fear and uncertainty. Seriously, the higher the post count on this forum the more r******* people are...
Putting all aside... Anyone knows if there is a Nostromo version for the... you know... "other right hand" users?
Because at this point I have a choice of using Nostromo and having TWO keyboards, or no Nostromo at all.
#1; So someone who aoe's uses /targetnext /attack, then what, he stands still for the rest of the day? Nostromo won't gather mobs for you either.
No, he pulls with his other account. This way, you have to manage only one account. Better yet, he goes afk and his friend pulls.
And telling that melee ppl who play live dont use /nexttarget /attack is almost worth the JOKE OF THE MONTH award. You ever played a melee as a MA? Or just hitting assist for 6 hours straight while jerking off?
I think they are using the ketra's as the example. I don't believe I would be using this for the /targetnext type of thing.
I will have to work on the cp pot macro
Here ya go.
Open your profile editor and select a key that you want to use on the n52 pad and select "New Macro"
I keep my CP pots on a slot I don't use much which is normally F11. Set your macro settings within the profile editor to that in the screenshot and you'll be good. you won't get the endless "cp pot not ready for reuse" message all the time. As far as I could tell .4 seconds was just enough for it not to do that, just remember to pay attention to uncheck the record delay between key presses box, very important.
Ahh, now I understand how that works.
thanks, i had been playing with that for a while, but was trying to do one of my hidden tool bars and not a main one.
I would assume you could also tie that to the thumb button too instead of the general buttons.
#1; So someone who aoe's uses /targetnext /attack, then what, he stands still for the rest of the day? Nostromo won't gather mobs for you either.

Hehe... "other accounts", "friends pulling instead", hmm, the arguments are becoming more and more desperate and farfetched.
Back on track: I hope people can now at least admit that a nostromo by itself is definitely not something one could use to bot. Stop trying to picture it as a botting tool.
@your last comment; I don't know what you're trying to say there, but both /targetnext and /assist are bad things to do when you aoe. /targetnext often makes you target mobs no matter their location (might be a mob in a room behind you), and using /assist is bad for the main aoe DD since his VR point will die (too) fast.
btw, the sole reason I use a nostromo myself is for armor/weapon switching macros since NCsoft made the /equip command "disappear".
Potion spam is nice with it too, but after a while you get tired of spending 500k per pvp fight in the blink of an eye... and just go back to controlled manual spam! ^^
Uhm, /nexttarget has _never_ ever targeted a mob in another room for me. Works flawlessly while poling or hunting single target. VR point? You VR from _all_ the mobs you hit with the pole. And the other polers assisting will also hit all the mobs. You dont really take single hitters into the AoE group... BDs dance, SwS sing, buffers buff. Polers hit.
/nexttarget has a really short range, so I dont even get how you got it to target mobs far away. What exactly are you running, not L2 atleast.
Here is my personal experience what a nostromo can and can't do, which will hopefully help distinguish it from a bot program or otherwise.
A nostromo can spam CP and HP pots
A nostromo can NOT start spamming CP or HP pots without a keystroke from the player.
A nostromo can NOT stop spamming CP or HP pots without another keystroke from the player.
A nostromo can, be setup to /nexttarget /attack delay 30 secs and loop indefinitely.
A nostromo can NOT determine if a mob was successfully killed. An example, you get stunned say after the first 5 secs, it would NOT retarget and attack until 25 seconds later, and if there was more then 1 mob it would leave the first mob and target the next, leaving you with 2 or mobs to deal with.
A nostromo can, be set to assist someone using an in-game macro. Example /target person's name *ingame macro* , /assist , /attack, loop indefinitely. Great for those quick bathroom breaks, unexpected phone calls, or playing the pizza delivery guy.
A nostromo can NOT be set to accept a BREZ. In actuality it could, based on a mouse click over the rez box that pops up, but the nostromo would be unable to tell if it was a friendly BREZ or an unfriendly wartag for 0%. Furthermore it would need to be set to loop so that whenever you died it would click, this would mess up game play because it would click trying to more your character to that spot even when no rez bow is present based on how often you set it to loop, it could in theory send your character running frequently to your death.
A nostromo can be set to craft simple things, shots or base mats, very very quickly, like your own mp bar and 4 recharges and still running outta mp quickly.
A nostromo can be set to craft slowly over nite, say one mouse click ever 10 secs, mp is recovered and basically as long as you have the supplies you can craft endlessley.
A nostromo can be used to hold shift for when you don't want to move and control for pvp.
A nostromo can run multiple macro's at once. It is possible for up to 6 macro's to be used at the same time. However effectiveness in largely passed on how fast these macros are repeated. If, say a macro for CP spam, HP spam, shift, and control are used at the same the result is often loss of control. You may have to use your skill several times before it goes off. Or you may have to -excluding shift- you may have to click several times to get your character to move, even arrow keys are sometimes sluggish. Archers are least affected by this, because they typically are not using skills but rather just normal attack.
and finally to my best knowledge a nostromo can NOT alt+tab between boxes. If I'm wrong about this one let me know.
Maybe it depends on your aoe spot. I've only aoed in endgame 9man dungeons (fog, mos, pagans, it). Tried targetnext 2-3 times but after some horrible deaths never used it again.
You're not going to tell me you don't know that positioning is very important while aoeing. I know you're better than that. So with the position, a good main VR point is critical to be able to hit as many mobs as possible from a certain angle. If your VR point keeps dying because your DDs all hit it too, you can expect a couple nasty situations. I've had plenty Titans tell me "don't hit my mob!!" while aoeing with them so I know I'm right.
PS: my own class is not a Titan or something with pole masteries. So for me, positioning is even more important.
Uhm, yea, positioning is important. If you stack the train correctly, pretty much all the mobs will be at "correct" spot so you can nexttarget another mob that will give you same coverage.
Back in Chronicle 5 their was a command called /equip
It was unbreakable and the best part was it would detect if you were already wearing an item in the macro. This would make sure you never strip yourself naked if you accidently pressed the macro (twice). Another bonus with this is that you could place 2 armor sets in 1 macro and if you were already wearing your light armor, it would switch to your heavy. If you were already wearing your heavy armor, it would switch to your light. Same thing with weapons. It was a godlike macro to use.
In Interlude, NCsoft now says their was never such a command in the game (????????) and refuses to answer any questions about it.
Haha, bringing back some of the funny NC "It is working as intended/There is no bug/Exploit/It has always been like this/Such a thing does not exist in the game" -memories :P
It was awesome i agree =(. Just merely stating it can still be done in with in game macro's. Warning do not press the same macro twice, nakedness will occur. lol
back to my final question can you alt tab with nostromo? my belief is no that is something you can not do
back to my final question can you alt tab with nostromo? my belief is no that is something you can not do
What do you mean? If you can alt-tab out of the game? Yeah, all the nostromo does is let you bind regular keys to it, so if you bind alt and tab, pressing those (or running a macro) will make you switch applications.
Only reason I love it is that it let's you reconfigure your key layout. I have the F1-12's set up in a QWER ASDF ZXCV fashion.
You can do that with any keyboard.
Can you? Are you talking about some special application or can you actually reconfigure the Lineage 2 hotkeys?
Yes, you can define your own layout of keyboard. But ask GameGuard how it likes it after next patch, providing you define it as in language panel :p
I use single-button alt-tab like this: record macro that presses alt key, presses tab key, releases tab key, releases alt key. Leave some tiny timings there, since C5 or Interlude it was unable to recognize "instant" alt-tab without timings for whatever reason.
A nostromo can NOT determine if a mob was successfully killed. An example, you get stunned say after the first 5 secs, it would NOT retarget and attack until 25 seconds later, and if there was more then 1 mob it would leave the first mob and target the next, leaving you with 2 or mobs to deal with.
again i never said it was a good method for gaining xp or it would be easy or it would be safe or anyone actually uses it
however if you set up your toon in a low agro low risk area you can rack up some afk xp
You're not going to tell me you don't know that positioning is very important while aoeing. I know you're better than that. there is some truth to this and its kinda irrelevant to the topic but i will address it
before the aoe stacking nerf it didn't matter which mob you targeted in a train, if you pulled right they would stack perfectly
after the nerf it became important in alot of cases to target the middle mob so you would have a better chance of getting the rest in your arc
DDs taking down your mob before the nerf would not matter and to a certain extent it doesn't matter much however if the DDs manage to take out all of the center mobs in a train you will be left with 2 separate groups of mobs which you can not hit at the same time requiring you to either restack or take out the two groups separately
the /targetnext /attack macro is meant to be used when your current target is at 20% hp or higher (depending on kill speed)
if you have ever seen a noob aoe player stop attacking every time their current target dies it might give you an idea of its use
there are alot of cases where you wouldn't use it but every time i make a new melee toon it is the second macro i make regardless of if they aoe or not
and just so everyone knows i don't care if ppl use nostromo
you would have to be a [Censored] to try and bot with it and apart from the *******s who spam chat in town who never get banned it doesn't concern me at all
i can spam pots just as quick as anyone useing it with the important difference being i won't be running my pot supply dry while i have full cp
Ahh, now I understand how that works.
thanks, i had been playing with that for a while, but was trying to do one of my hidden tool bars and not a main one.
I would assume you could also tie that to the thumb button too instead of the general buttons.
Yeah you can use any button on the n52 for the macro. You just have to have the CP pots on your main hotbar in game, it doesn't matter in which position as that is entirely your preference.
I use the little red thumb button above the D-Pad cuz I find it easiest.
Your whole post is full of contradictions. On one hand you try to be innocent and indifferent about the nostromo, while 1-2 lines later you talk about nostromo as a cheating device. pls just pick 1 side and stick with it :) you're starting to grow a long nose.
Also, I'd suggest you go to one of these "low agro low risk" places you talk of, and do nothing but type these 2 things: /targetnext /attack
Let's see how long you last? :)
Yeah you can use any button on the n52 for the macro. You just have to have the CP pots on your main hotbar in game, it doesn't matter in which position as that is entirely your preference.
Put CP pot on any toolbar any position, let's say toolbar 7 position 5. Now record macro:
key press /
key release /
key press U
key release U
key press S
key release S
...
key press Enter
key release Enter
Type tho whole "/useshortcut 7 5".What it does is that it types very fast "/useshortcut 7 5" in your chat box and hits enter - just like you would type it yourself. You can chain few of those, leave 0.4s pause between them. Note that you cannot type anything else in chat box while running that macro because the macro basically just types for yourself. If you have switched to any other chat channel, you can put in front of it "key press Backspace key release backspace" to delete corresponding chat channel character (# + @ $ %)
Edit: Maybe there is other more convenient way of doing this, but this is one that I use. Not that it makes me pvp god of course :) It's just convenient to have one free spot on active toolbar.
Ok so I ran some test at home with the alt tabbing.
General conclusions For 2 boxing its works great its very east to alt+tab hit a buff macro or heal macro and tab back. So yes it is possible. However, i noticed that even with delays, somethings were completely based on system lag. That is as the hours of grinding grew longer and therefore system heat rose and slowly the macro's start breaking, because you need longer and longer delays.
It's very well for getting too the desired boxes and back to the fighter screen, but further investigation shows a problem. I'll give and example 3 boxes DD, SE, PP. This is their order in alt+tab menu. I want them both to buff the DD with 1 macro push, and at the end reorder themselves so that in 20 mins it again only takes 1 button. This is where the problems comes in, and is too much for system after a few buff rounds.
DD, SE, PP : Alt + tab tab
PP, DD, SE : Change Bar, Clicks proper target ingame macro, f6 (PP's ingame buff macro) Alt + tab tab
SE, PP, DD : f6 (SE's ingame buff macro, Assist the PP for proper target) Alt +tab tab
DD, SE, PP When function it does it all in less then a second
The biggest problem seems to be that sometimes it tries to ALT with an F -key changing bars. easily solvable by placing the target macros on the main bar or as someone suggested the typing out of the /useshortcut x y or even /target (playername). I'll take a look at the tonight. Also one complaint with the Nostromo.... no way to copy paste macro's -.-
Alt+ tabbing - functions but need lots of tweaking and rather complicated macro's with the more boxes you need to use.
And it chugs heat out, no need for a gas bill during winter =).
...
Been through 2 Mother boards and 2 Vid cards
Both replaced by manufacture, spec wise its what the system shipped with.
---------------------------------------
An after thought regarding nostromo.
It may be the length of the macro's that I'm making because of their complexity, as soon as one step is messed up the rest can be washed down a toilet. But 2 macro's might solve this problem.
Example:
nostromo macro 1
DD, SE, PP | Alt+tab tab
PP, DD, SE | Buff, Alt+tab
DD, PP, SE
nostromo macro 2
DD, PP, SE | Alt+tab tab
SE, DD, PP | Buff, Alt + tab
DD, SE, PP
would both properly reorder and simplify the macro's extensively, only switch once, target and buff, switch back.
Better to have it on main bar.
I've never seen anyone that pvp's not have either cp pots or an in game cp pot macro on main bar.
Then you can at least execute commands like /target randomenemy or /invite someone who got disconnected or something like that and not have to worry about interrupting your macro.
You are completely right Lil B. My only argument is that my system eliminates human error such as a mouse not over the correct name or any name at all, as mouses do like to slide away sometimes, pesky little devils. Mine personally is looped to re-assist about ever 1.5 secs
Conversely at least how i have it set currently. I can also use Duelist Spirit and War Cry on 2 other macro's while assisting. not sure how well they would function with a mouse click every half a second, but i may just look into your idea as well.
Sadly this is more bot like then i enjoy really. This works well with any class that can assist and occasionally pop off a self buff. BD, SWs for example or a destroyer switching to dagger rage and switch back on repeat. All you really need is one live person to target, while the rest can assist, buff dance and sing appropriately. 1 decent PC 8 bad ones with nostromos and you just reinvented the farmer

If on my HE I will rigth click assist at about .5 if I am on BD I do about 1.2 or so. I do that because you tend to have the assist macro spamming to much and conflicting with a dance every so often. 1.2 gives just about the exact amount of time needed so you have no conflicts and miss any dances.
When you press a key on the keyboard, for example the Q key, the keyboard doesnt send to your pc that someone pressed the Q key it sends a numeric value based on the position of that key on your keyboard. The keyboard driver for windows then translates that numeric value into the key pressed, based on the keyboard layout that you told windows you are using. Under windows xp and later you can create custom keyboard layouts so when you press the Q key, your custom keyboard layout maps its numeric value sent by the keyboard to F1, and so your application thinks you pressed the F1 key. Of course doing this means that you can no longer use the Q key to get the letter Q out as it will map to F1, so you are probably better off using 1-9, num lock, / and * for f1-f12 on your numeric keypad as this will still allow you to chat.
Before the moral fighters show up to save the day...
Keep in mind that with the things said in the above posts, a Nostromo:
# will get STUCK as soon as the main assister moves to a place where the people would normally have to follow him.
# will draw unneccesary aggro from mobs, by running to attack mobs that are close to the main assister, but far from the Nostromo user.
# There's probably more things that can and WILL be going wrong. Just think about it, would YOU be able to exp for 10 hours in a standard exp grp by just typing /target /assist /attack over and over? No. Well, Nostromo does exactly that, so no, you can't BOT with a Nostromo either.
It may be helpful to setup so you can take a quick break to get something out of the oven or take a toilet/phone break or whatever... but definitely not even close to a botting program lol.
I have a Nostromo myself and the only thing I use it for is to replace ingame armor/weapon switch macros and spam CP. Trust me, none of these things that people say are "botting" will ever work like the way people describe them here, lmao.

oops yeah forgot that
/target main
/attack
/assist
/attack
spam it every 5 seconds and you have pretty good AF and assisting as long as you are smart enough not to target a raid boss or anything :/
you can remove the attack for af whenever you feel like a few hours in a row of better assisting
EDIT: actually just stick with the first macro i said and target yourself when you need auto follow

To me (as a non nostromo user) the CP is *the* unfair advantage though. If I want to be as " good" as a Nostromo pvper I would need a Nostromo. Get my point? I'd have to buy hardware to be better in something which should've been ingame skill.
I never cared if someone I pvpd against used a Nostromo or not. Both when I myself had one and when I didn't. Nostromo will not prevent someone from running out of potions, quite the opposite really. If he's able to spam them faster than me, I should either change my key layout (I know some people who CLICK their CP potions... go figure) or make use of that knowledge and pvp him differently. Never cried about it...
I never carry any to care. If I lose, I lose, if I win, I win.
Most people who carry out random attacks on tagged toons are either at war, out for PvP in general or new at the game. You're not going to be able to stop the first two instances, so I just take it as it comes but in the 3rd instance I normally end up winning because they don't know what their HP bar is for.
Back on topic however, I'm still trying to figure out how to get the gamepad functionality of "select next/last target in view" ported onto the keyboard. I'm pretty **** sure it's possible without using 3rdP applications - I'll be sure to let you know when I do.
Heh I use Nostromo because it gives my wrist a relief. Being game tester for year and half and playing L2 is painful a bit.
I always forget whjich button I bind CP spamming and I still click my mouse gazillion times to craft. I am n00b. Take Nostromo as "must" for ergonomy or "must" for pwnage, I choose the first option. Macros are just pleasant cherry on top of cream.
Especially as summoner who has to control the buffs, position in the landscape, skills and HP/Mana bars of two individuals at the same time. Cookie cutter 0-skill point n' click archers wouldn't need a nostromo if they just place one finger on a key, no. It gets challenging to spam CP points when you have to micro using 7 hotbars in rapid succession to pvp "normally".
