New player class choice, from an old wow player

General Discussion Started Last reply 10 posts
Hey, just looking for some advice on what class i should choose to start playing lineage on. I really would like a healing class as close to the holy paladin from world of warcraft. I played a 70 holy paladin and tagged with a caster class (warlock) and we were able to destroy pvp, i could also get 1st in healing charts in pve.I also have a friend that is rolling with me on lineage that is going to play a necromancer. With that in mind any suggestions on what class i'd like in lineage? Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I'll jump in, despite the mirror-image thread.

In WoW and other games, a healer can feel like the cement or core around which a successful group is built.

The best class to correspond to that role in Lin2 is a human mystic/cleric/bishop or elven mystic/oracle/elder.

However, if you're huntin in a duo with a nuker, you're not going to have that role. Instead you'll be the buff/recharger and loot-picker-upper.

If you want the WoW paladin type role, the feeling that a group lives or dies, wins or loses based on your decisions and timing, you'll need a different partner. The closest I can think of is being a healer for a polearm party, or other melee-based party.

Welcome to lin2! :)
there really isn't any role like that in this game.. nearly every class has some way to solo or such.

lol

anyway in L2 paladins are kinda a gimp healer tank combo and won't really do much when teamed with a necro
me personally if i was just starting with a friend i would roll the same class as him then share a second account for a buffer
Well, on the other thread people kept saying you should roll an SE. However, I hope that you consider some different things before you do.

Your playing an SE is going to benefit your friend more than you. If you are really interested in this game, interested in getting involved with other players than just your friend, SE might not be the class you want to choose. I guess my question to you is - do you want to have fun or are you just here to enhance your friend's fun?

SEs are a good class, they have some good skills... but there are two major problems with them. First, nearly everybody has a boxed SE (secondary account that they use out of party just for the buffs/recharges.) So you're not going to find that your abilities are unique and you may often find that groups would prefer to take a boxed oop SE over you.

Second, SEs are not true healers, they are more of a buffer/healer combo. Their two heals are both heal over time that takes the spot of a buff on your buff bar - in fully buffed pvp parties where everyone is nearly overbuffed, using HOT is frowned upon because it can knock an important buff off. Also, because it's HOT and not instant heal, they can't return massive amounts of HP quickly. And add to that the fact that they have the slowest casting speed of all healers and they come up kind of short when compared to the other healers.

Here's a quick look at some of the other healers -

Bishop - The best healer in L2 and only healer class that is specialized to healing. Because they don't focus on anything else, they have all the best heals and the highest % rez. They have trance, so they can help with crowd control.

Elven Elder - Also a good healing class, they have 3 heals and super fast casting speed, which makes up for not having some of the heals that the Bishop has. Also, they have recharge (which returns mp) and some good mp management buffs. They have the 2nd highest % rez in the game. They also have trance and can play crowd control. Also have a skill called Party Return which lets them instantly return their entire party to town (avoiding death to mobs or pvp.)

You also might want to look into the Warcryer or Overlord. Neither of these are a specialized healing class, they are more of a mix of healer, buffer and dd. They have HOT, as well as good buffs (WC just for party, OL has alliance-wide buffs, but that will change to clan-wide in CT1), and they also have some nasty debuffs, nukes and crowd control skills.

If you want to play a healer, pick a Bishop or an EE - both are fun and desired for PVE and PVP parties. If you are more interested in playing a hybrid that can manage hp, buff and help DD, pick OL or WC. If you really think you're just going to party with your friend all the way to level 75 and that's all you want to do - pick SE.

(I would like to point out, that as negative on the SE as I seem to be, some people really do like playing them.)
I don't know how things are in WoW but I think it must be a better game than L2. Otherwise, why so many people end their posts with the "Go play WoW" sentence? :o
There is also the Warcryer option. They can't really heal that well. But, they do get stuff like heavy armor masteries, can hit pretty hard in melee combat compared to the rest of the support. Got a decent lifetab nuke. Maybe that's more you if you come from a well armored paladin in WoW.

But really, if your friend must play a necromancer, then your kinda stuck with SE to really benefit him.
All I will say is that if your friend is a nuker, play either a archer or another nuker.

Yes, a buffer would maximise the potential of your friend to kill stuff....you will be BORED TO TEARS.

There simply will not be anything you can do at that point, other than buff, then pick up stuff. Maybe a once in a long while root, but thats about it.

Do yourself a favor and at least pick a class that will have an active role in your duo. That means you need a ranged char to complement his. Or at least one that can hunt next to him, even if you both take seperate targets.

I believe that NC really made a mental blunder when they gave the 'Surrender to X' spells to the nukers...those should have gone to the buffers! At least in that way, there would have been *something* for buffers to actively do in a nuker party other than buff, sit and recharge.

...and whatever you do don't go Overlord if you do go buffer....as you will be looking at a minimum of 75 levels of pure gimpyness before you reach any sort of usefulness.
I really gotta agree with the above post. I spent a lot of time playing Bladedancer with a nuker partner and it was so unbelievably boring. Make another nuker or archer.
