For C-grade and beyond, what blunts do people use? Caster oriented? One-handers? Health? Acumen? Mana-up? Other?
I'll probably be ending up soloing a ton so I was wondering if folks could talk about what they use, how effective Hammer Crush is these days, and if there are any multi-tasker type blunts that people can recommend.
I just started to grind up a WC, and tbh I kind of hate the class.
Sure buffing a while group is done fast, but I mean come on they don't even get VR till 44.
with club of nature with acumen I got freaken 46 crt rate. that sucks so bad!! I tried out FP set, I hate it, I prefer my PL set atlest in that I can dd some what.
Their dmg really sucks, they really are a class that buffs and sits for 20 minutes!!
not only that but at lvl 40 in Karmain I can just barely buff my party. and I only got 5 skills.

It's definitely a support class. Some folks love the power that it offers, others would much rather lean more towards being a primary damage dealer or buffer/healer.

Go back in a time machine to 2004 and see what we got them...and WC's still pwned.

One of the downsides of having a hybrid class is that you basically need two sets of gear minimum and both of them need to be good...and even then you won't be lighting the World on fire in any one aspect of the game.

MP is what you will live and die by. Come up short on buffs and your group will be ******. Come up short on mana for your damaging skills and you'll get bored. Ever think about Men tats? Other than your drains and sleeps(slow as all to be ****ed regardless) you really don't need to be fast at casting.
Uh, I definitely can't recommend dumping yout Wit stat into the garbage forever but it might be worth it if you are having issues with mana.
why do you guys use blunts?
surely if you have generic weapon mastery you would be better off useing a mage weapon for spells and say a 2 hander for damage
If you have MP problems, a Mana Up weapon + Robes is the best you can hope for.
Oddly enough, a Mana Up weapon does more for a non-mystic than it does for a character in robes. The reason for this is simple. All characters base MP pool is quite low and most of your MP will come from the robes you wear. Yes, even Mystic classes have 'low mp' without robes. The Mana Up SA does NOT stack with the MP bonus from robes, it stacks with your base MP. Thus an extra 200 MP on a melee char is very noticable, but on a mage is just another couple of nukes. For a buffer though it can be the difference between getting all your buffs off or not.
As far as the blunt question goes...I don't. Use blunts that is. Blunts are only good for 2 things:
1)Stun skills. Which are near useless for PvE, and barely useful for PvP and 2)Fighting Evasion mobs.
In every other situation crits > ACC. Even without any sort of crit buffs or SA. This is a lesson hard learned by leveling a OL 'solo' with a SoWD and a MoTU (mammon swap) long before instant herbs were added to the game.
Once you add in crit buffs/SA (Just focus/Death Whisper alone is enough) the extra damage from crits just rises exponentially due to how crit bonuses stack. Hence why Blunts suck so bad in game compared to high crit weapons.

The benefit of the WC comes in the long-run. No, they are not great at 40s, far from it. But by the time a WC is in the upper 60s, they are a real asset to any party with a lot of melees in it. And ff you're going to play a support class, it seems to me better to play for the high end, if you plan on trying to get to high-end.
On the subject of blunts, it you're leveling up a character from scratch, I can see where a blunt would be useful to a Dwarf or Orc playing in the Schuttgart area, up to maybe low - mid-50s. This is just because many of the mobs are blunt-weak. But, I think duals are still the best option for an Orc mystic at those lower levels, if you can get them at a reasonable price. This is based on:
1) Orc mystics get generic weapon masteries, unlike Dwarfs and Raiders/Destroyers.
2) I've compared side by side at C grade on blunt-weak skeletons in DV. The difference ain't even close. Not even.

I had duals left over from my BD but I just prefer the general utility of a blunt for my Scavenger and Mystic. I don't have to switch weapons and with buffs I am tearing through mobs at a good clip and still able to use the stun for over-hits.
The best weapon for the job? Not really, but it makes me happy to be able to use one weapon for multiple tasks.
I think that sort of falls into a general playstyle preference thing. IMO, yeah, playstyle preferences are an extremely good reason for playing and gearing a certain way. The only real reason any of us play this game is for fun.
Do this next time your in game. Kill one mob normally, then kill one mob using your 'over-hit'.
Check the SP and XP....
If it doesn't grab you upside the head and smack you around, here's the dirty, dirty secret behind 'over-hits'....Overhits give you slightly more XP, but NO EXTRA SP!
That's right! When you make an effort to use overhit, to 'level faster' you are gimping your skills, by getting LESS SP!
Now if 'Overhit' gave you extra adena or % on drops *THEN* it would be worth it...until that happens the current implementation of overhit is a big scam.
So unless your're character has already seen more death than a graveyard, or you've got a IV Feed of SP scrolls, overhit is the *Last* thing you want to be doing.
A constant kill rate, with a minimal amount of effort (Red mobs = too long to kill) , is the fastest way to level a melee solo. (no AOE, No powerleveling.) And if money isn't a big issue, and you don't want to 'stop and smell the flowers' then just make sure your grinding white mobs and move on when the mobs turn green.
Club of Nature +10/Acumen & Branch of the Mothertree +4 / clean + DC robe set, -Str/+Con and -Men/Wit tatoos at 71.
I don't solo (haven't been since I was... 62?), so why would I need a crit/focus weapon? 1000+ cast speed on my sleep and HoP is way better then my wanna-be damage dealing.
Yes, some people like it solo or with a boxed SE, but not me.

Solo or not, the extra damage from crits is significant. And since you can get acumen on a sword, there is no reason you *have* to have a blunt.
And OL buffs are in all honesty...complete crap. So unless your in some AOE group just using seals, you may as well do that much more assist damage with a sword, or even a dagger.
Only reason to have an acumen/mage weapon for PvE as a WC/OL is if you have CoV (keep re-use time down) or if you need the m.atk of a mage weapon for dreaming spirit/seals.
If you can't afford both a PvP (acumen blunt) and PvE weapon (Dagger for solo/grps when you have spare MP, or duals/focus sword when no spare MP), then get an accumen sword like SOM or Homunkulus. Then you get a decent critrate although low p.atk, but are still good for PvP alhough no stun.
Currently I use an Elysian axe with no SA. The reason I use it is for stuns and to hit mobs that have high evasion (there seem to be a lot of them). When I have more money I will go for a dagger but I will keep Elysian too. I also have an elemental sword as my mage weapon (magic power SA).
For me, the ideal setup for A-grade would be a Soul Separator (possibly with Crit.damage SA) in combination with a Flaming Dragon Skull with accumen SA for PvP or Magic Power SA for PvE.
Why the Critial Damage SA? We don't crit all that much, wouldn't something to hit faster, increase the amounts of criticals or increase magic speed be better?
I went for speed with my AOBA. With GSAP and death whisper buff, I thought I did ok.
I'm A grade and still wielding my b grade weapons. People have told me to go with a flaming dragon head. Cause it has acumen. Has anyone used or seen this? I've yet to see one on my server.
That is the weapon I use for groups, I was looking at trading for the SoM w/ acumen though. It just doesn't seem to help much and stuns for me are too rare in the landing yet.

with my kris+6 focus and bd in a group my normal hit is around 200, crit is 700+ - every 4th hit is crit - as you can see overall damage in 10 seconds is about 4.5k hp (1.4 hits per second), and with soul cry it goes up to 6-7k hp. standard mini-party (destr+bd+wc) holds 2 big rooms in mortyrs without any problems. if you prefer to go in zerg parties and watch tv between rebuffs - blunt ftw. good green mystic has dagger with focus for grinding and acumen blunt only for pvp and room control when suitable. that's what makes difference between good and bad magic orcs.
Did c grade with SLS focus.
Bgrade with GS focus and a AOBA health as backup.
Currently using Meteor shower focus.
I had a Spiritual eye but it didnt make it to +4 so im currently on the market for an A grade staff, BOMT/FDS acumen prefferably.
I liked the GS over the AOBA at Bgrade because of higher DPS.
maybe a haste AOBA would have been good but thts speculation.
