I just returned to L2 after being away for a very long time. I have a DA and Dwarf warsmith but I was thinking I would like to make a Damage dealer this time around.
I really don't like the look of Dark Elves or Orcs and Light elves don't look like they have the best DD's.
That leaves me with Humans, which I prefer anyway. The question is, whats a better choice, warlord or Glady? I see a lot of negitive posting about the glady and hardly anything at all about warlords.
I really wish there was something that could be done with dwarves but....thats not going to happen so never mind.
I'm not experienced enough about glads to write an essay on them, other than that they are controversial. Glad players love their class, while many people who don't play glads say they suck. Interpret that as you will.
Out of the two, though, the glad is definately the harder hitting class. The WL "can" deal "good" damage, but it stops around there. The WL has no hard hitting skills or buffs, and without selfbuffs they have the exact same patk as a dwarf with a polearm, not counting STR differences. With all selfbuffs on, I'd say the WL can achieve about 30-40% more dps than a dwarf with a polearm, but that's including a buff which lowers your runspeed, making it so undesirable in pvp that people will burst out in laughter if they catch you using it.
For pvp, I consider myself a utility and not a DD, where I can make the most of my class by focusing on disruption while letting the DD classes deal the damage.
Basically, most of the skills which WL's use to deal damage can be found on dwarves and destroyers as well. The skills which makes a WL a WL mostly revolve around stunning.
Out of a gladdie and warlord the gladdie is the DD class definately and some say they're a fotm (flavor of the month class) I don't know about that but i do fair fairly well in every situation i get into, even aoe'ing ^^ Its a class thats real easy to love, but then again whats there not to love in an upfront and personal kind of class? ;)
The negative posts about gladdies mostly revolve around other classes saying we suck and can't kill 'em for pvp while other more experienced glads say that those they've met must have been real noobs. Its mostly flamebait imo but then again, ANY class that is properly played by someone who knows it inside out and they can achieve nearly everything anyway. I suppose the reason you don't hear much negative about warlords is because they've kind of given up on hope much like dorfs, heh. They don't suck though, it all depends on who's playing and how they are playing them. Purely statistical with equal buffs 1v1 situations, be it mobs or other PC's skill using glad outdamages a skill using warlord any day. If you want the more squishy type of DDclasses (squishy as in non heavy armortype class) I'd say daggers and archers but then again, duh, thats all thats left of the human classtrees ;) human tanks are not to be underestemated either though
I have read a lot of posts about people saying that Gladiator sucks. It is b/c those ppl never levled their glads high enough to experience the true power of Glad.
Gladiator is pretty weak until we get a skill called TSS(Triple Sonic Slash), which is the main skill for gladdy. Gladiator's power increase exponentially.
1. when you get TSS
2. DS1 ( Dualist Spirit 1)
3. @ lvl 70 sonic focus 7
4.@ lvl 72 DS2
5. @lvl 78 Sonice rage ( this is when gladdy becomes godly)
6. @ lvl 79 Sonic barrier
*** The most important thing is that you MUST have dedication to level you glad to 78, or else you will just become like other , who complains that gladiator sucks.***
Has nothing to do with us not playing them that high.. (I have personally..), its just that their overall DPS isnt very high.
Its burst DPS, and if you cant kill someone in that burst, your screwed. Vs the steady damage output of another class that can and will break your pot spam cycle.
Not to mention DPS in a PvE scenario is extremely lackluster.
However, it is by far the most fun class to play along with a Tyrant.
But to be honest, she's over a year old and only 6x. Reason being is I was a total newb last year and didn't know how to level a human fighter (wrong armor, equipment, etc). So I'd put her down, reroll another toon, play my Bish...pick her back up, etc, etc.
However, I find that in the 6x range, she's a **** good DD and I have no trouble finding parties. I do use all the skills given to me in most situations and find TSS to be the major damage dealer. A crit with TSS can bring me over 5.5K in damages at my level.
Some folks play Gladi's as tanks......I prefer to be a support DD unless forced to tank.
I would just do the research on the various skills, etc and decide from there on which class you prefer.

Archers are only good when they are stacked with support classes, enough said. I don't take even take them seriously if they don't come in with a fully decked archer party.
78 Duelists who have access to Champion+renewal are insane. Sonic Blaster refreshing before you can even charge up 2 times is madness. 600 range nukes, High Pdef, High HP/CP. Would like to see a good party of Duelist wit proper support for once. And by good I mean people who know what they are doing.

True, but how many times do you run around PvP'ing solo? Alot? How about buffless? Alot?
Me? Never. (Although BD + CoV is enough TBH. Hunter/Warlock are nice, but not required to hit like a truck)

Would be intreasting to see if you could get all the Gladiators to roll on PTS and form a tight group out of it and see how it does vs other stacked groups.
See if you can, woudnt hurt to try :) I think they'd do all right if the combat was in a close type space, but in the open you'd still face the same difficulties any Gladiator does.
gladiators are great damage dealers :) tyrants too. until the final class transfer i'd have to say tyrants are stronger, but a gladi is more of my personal favorite :)
Yeah, that's what I keep hearing as well, that glads aren't nearly as powerful as they can be until 77-78.
I've been in pvp duo with a glad clannie a few times (wl and glad pvp duo, bet you didn't expect that as they come over the hill), and even at high 60's he's far superior to my low 70's WL in small scale pvp ganks. Ranged attacks, spike/burst damage to beat CP regen, and able to force their skills on unflagged wartargets. Probably on unflagged non-war targets too, but not sure.

hahah, i know what you mean, i level side by side with a warlord and have been since my glad was 45ish... and that means pvp'ing for the spots too if needed, lol

I can confirm this for you, we can force any skill on unflagged non-war targets. However our aoeattacks (sonic burst and storm) only land on the specific target we lock onto and force our skills on, the aoeblast doesnt affect nearby PC in range that are unflagged non-war targets

depends on how good the archers are on switching targets/assisting and somewhat on luck (crits). but you could say the same about the glads
