Trick or Transmutation, a brand new Lineage II event, will begin on Friday, October 26th! Players must find keys to unlock mysterious Alchemist's Chests. The chests contain materials needed to craft one of six different Philosopher's Stones. Philosopher's Stones are used to summon rare and valuable rewards, including scrolls, potions, A-Grade weapons, and even some very special head accessories the likes of which have never been seen in the lands of Aden or Elmore. Read on for more details, and be sure to check out the Trick or Transmutation Event Page (http://www.lineage2.com/archive/2007/10/trick_or_transm.html) for full prize info and more!
Sir Edward the Alchemist has at long last completed his research on Philosopher's Stone creation. He keeps the materials needed to create Philosopher's Stones in Alchemist's Chests; he'd love to show you how it's done, but the Alchemist's Chest Keys were lost during recent monster attacks. If you can find one of the Alchemist's Chest Keys, you can keep whatever you find inside the Alchemist's Chest you open. Wondrous treasures are to be had by he (or she) who creates a Philosopher's Stone!
Info
<ul type="square"> * Players can learn about the Trick or Transmutation event by speaking to the Alchemist's Servitor.
* The Alchemist's Chest Key drops during specific event drop times. The times and dates are detailed below under the Event Schedule info.
* Once players have obtained an Alchemist's Chest Key, they can open one of the Alchemist's Chests that are situated around the Alchemist's Servitor. The Alchemist's Chests contain the items required to create a Philosopher's Stone.
* Players must have all required Philosopher's Stone creation items and they must register the appropriate Transmutation Circle Recipe to their General Recipe Book in order to create the corresponding Philosopher's Stone.
* Once players have created Philosopher's Stones, they can double-click the stones to receive random event rewards. The rewards vary depending on what color Philosopher's Stone you're using.
Event Schedule
The event is broken down into two drop periods.
<ul type="square">*The first key drop period begins on October 26, 2007 at 6:00 PM CDT and 6:00 PM GMT+1, and ends on October 28, 2007 at 11:59 PM CDT and 11:59 PM GMT+1.
* The second key drop period begins on November 2, 2007 at 6:00 PM CDT and 6:00 PM GMT+1, and ends on November 4, 2007 at 11:59 PM CDT and 11:59 PM GMT+1.
The Event Managers will remain in the villages until November 6, 2007 at 10:00 AM CDT (4:00 PM GMT+1).
So will the accessories disappear completely or will we at least get to keep it without the active skill? <.< It just says its much like the shadow weapons.
method of the event:
1: hunt mobs for event drops - the KEYS drop during the 2 3-day wekends.
2: take the keys to th alchemist, open the chest to loot what you need to make the stones. collect and trade as necessary.
3: once crafted, use the stone to get loot.
i am going to go out on a limb here and assume something; that the crafting materials and transmutation circlets all come from the chests, so key drops are the only event item you need to hunt from mobs.
totally agreed. these hunt mobs for event items same old boring crap is a waste of time for support class (SE, EE, Bish). Apparently the event designers do get off on seeing bots/cheats/illegal program users botting 24/7 non-stop for their events.
Time has changed since I started in 04'. You just can't fight bots since the dev/event teams are Pro-Bots.
I hate to say it, but imho that is true. Making lvling harder, placing restrictions just to keep people grinding longer, not fixing the spoil tables altho its blatantly obvious they're broken from the get go and thanks to that, the economy aswell. Not to mention all these grind grind grind events(piggy event anyone?) where farmers really shine. Or the fact that they refuse to do anything about preventing connections from 3rd party clients to their servers... the list goes on.
*Please note: All of the head accessories have a set duration, much like shadow weapons and armor, but they are imbued with a re-usable magical effect. The re-use time varies from 5 minutes to 30 minutes, depending on the effect. A skill's re-use timer will reset when the player logs in and also when the head accessory is equipped.
This is from the events page, not Alyra's post.
My brother, and I have both been looking forward to this event since we knew one like it took place in Korea...But, we won't be able to keep the head items for looks? The wizard hat is hands down cool, and it is the big reason I was looking forward to this. But, if you wear it it decays like a shadow weapon? :( :( :( So sad...
itr means you can only wear it for a limited amount of time, then you have to wait out the reuse timer to wear it again.
at least thats what i make of it..
the reuse time is for the skill on the accessory, not the sccessory itself. she said the accessories have a timer like shadow weapons/armors, so that means that after a while they will dissapear, and the skills have a timer of 5-30 minutes.
WOW I complain alot but I believe i complain about things that legitimitly deserve it, this on the other hand looks like and awesome event!
It's not recycled (NCNA could have easily done what they always do and made it a pumpkin event for haloween) it's new. I love it, thank you so much for changing things up a bit looks great!
I'm happy we hunt mobs - as fun as the piggy event was, when I only have a couple of hours to play day or less, I like to get a bit of exp too.
People always worry about getting the top this, the top that. Just hunt as you would with your friends, collect stuff and try to get something - no need for the uber stuff, logic says that only a few people per server will be getting a top a grade weapon anyways.
This looks like really fun event but i cant participate in it because i work all weekend imo it should have been scheduled to just run 1 week
bad idea to do it on the weekend only
*cough* most jobs require 9-5 weekdays. this is 95% of the consumer base. bot or not. you happen to have a job that screws you for weekends where literally millions of others do not. i say, tough cookies. would you rather they had it in the middle of the day and screw over EVERYONE? i am fairly certain you can BUY the event items too. i suspect there will be no shortage of keys. *cough*
the shadow accesory is not cool, ive wanted the wizard hat for a long [censored] time, now i finnally have a chance to get one... for a few hours then its gone T.T assuming the chance is not 1 in 1,000,000
The event items you can get i understand them all but the top ones. Is that the head accessory that is super hard to get? And if not what the hell is it?
(talking about the item such as Sirra's Blade, Sobekk's Hurricane, Themis' Tongue, or Behemoth's Tuning Fork)

I have the exact same question, and what is the fun of shadow accessory ?
shadow accessory?! oooh come on... it has no effect on game mechanics, it's just a fashion stuff. we want real accessories TT, screw the skill on them :(
I've noticed a trend in NcSoft events though. They introduce something temporary as an event so that we want it even more when it comes.
1) These accessories will probably come in CT1 or soon thereafter (some are available now, will make some people wanna get the real thing)
2) One of the next events (in CT1) will give people the opportunity to ride wolves, something that will only be avaible later on (maybe CT2)
They're just trying to wet our appetites >.<
Im actually impressed by what the hell this event seems to be based on, lets have a look. Alchemy, transmutation circles and "Sir Edward".... it's Full Metal Alchemist! :):D:D
I must say this event looks quite interesting, yes it is based on killing mobs but then again what in the game isn't? The whole chance to get an A weapon is pretty cool though, yes the chance is gonna be stupidly low, but thats a **** good prize if you get it!
Some of the head accessories have been unavailable until now - the jester hat for e.g.
The shadow accessories will definitely not be as difficult to get as:
Sirra's Blade, Sobekk's Hurricane, Themis' Tongue, or Behemoth's Tuning Fork...
because these are top A grade weapons... don't except anyone u know to get one unless they are veeeeeeeery lucky or use alternate means to get them.
UGH now i am confused. KK soo The top 2 thing on the list of stuff you can get are a grade weapons? because i though that Cabrio's Hand, Sword of Ipos, Shyeed's Bow, Barakiel's Axe ect were the top a grades. ( After all they came to in interlude but it appears on my server noone can find the rec to make any of them.) And i have never heard of the top line of stuff.
Hmm I'm not sure what ur asking, I think we answered it already but ill repeat for clarity.
In the list of prizes, the first 2 prizes for each color of Philosopher stone is the top A grade weapons introduced in interlude. The next line (3rd prize) are head accessories that are tempory.
You will get these prizes by collecting keys (hunting) and then opening treasure boxes in town. When you open a treasure box, you will get parts. Use those parts to make a philosopher stone. When you make a philosopher stone, double-click on it and you will get a prize (one of the prizes on the list).
The top 2 items in each list are both top A grade weapons, which were introduced in Interlude. And you can only get the recipes and parts via quests on Dino island, which is why not many have these weapons yet.
This event looks great! You can exp and have a chance to get new top A grade weapons and a look at the new head accessories. The weekend thing is kinda strange though... Wonder what the reason for this is?
Question 4: Can the items be traded, dropped, freighted, sold?
Question 1: Yes, that is what the Alchemist's Chest yield.
Question 2: 100%
Question 3: Common Craft--everyone can create the Philosopher's Stones once they have the required materials.
Question 4: The Philosopher's Stone requirement items and the stones themselves are able to be sold, frighted, traded, dropped, etc.; the head accessories cannot. The weapons work exactly as they do now.
I'd also like to note that when this event was held in Korea, the head accessories had the same duration. We didn't change that. :)
looks pretty crap consideing the duration adn the fact that a Saturday for USA is sunday for pretty much everywhere else so it goes over sunday monday... great idea.. not...
I'd also like to note that when this event was held in Korea, the head accessories had the same duration. We didn't change that. :)
But... we're not korea, we want perma accessories >.< Actually thats a bit more involved im guessing, it would mean having to change the server side stuff and keep it changed for every update .... or they could make some that dont dissapear ;)
Btw, i know this has no relivence to the topic, but Alrya, will the newest newsletter be posted on the website soon? I no longer recieve mine due to a stupid e-mail blocking thing >.<

Are the head accesssories like a skill that regenerates after a short period of time and can be reused, or do they disappear? (like shadow weapons)

It looks like an excellent, innovative and fun event with the best rewards ever. Thanks NCSoft for coming up with it and please please please don't let the negativity and whining of a few of the above posters discourage you from realizing that most mature players really appreciate events like this!
Re the event: Since the Philisopher's stone recipes are recorded in the common craft list of players (somewhat similar the the 'level' is for the medal events), I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't an event that we see repeated once a year or so...which would just really rock.
Re headgear: While a perma-hat might be better than a tempa-hat, anyhat is better than nohat, so its all cool.
just as a future suggestion for the next event
have the weapons be random, i'm sure we won't see many of them as rewards (if any) but every single person is gonna be trading for shyeeds bow and i know on my server alone we already have 3 of them!!!
I really really want one of those shyeeds. I'm going to try to work really hard to get one :). If I don't no big deal but whatever, It's still worth a shot!
Do Shyeeds and the other top A weapons also use lvl 12 SAs? I just sold the two I had made from last event, one green one blue. As I see focus uses green x_x. Darn
I like the weekend thing. I'm off for a few weeks now so it wouldn't of hurt me but a week ago I would of been a bit upset if it went all week. Weekend times are nice IMO. +1 for listening.
Next year can we have chaotic event like L1? Everyone can run around PKing each other and they roll back servers. Haha sounds like fun.
This is an ALYRA question. After the first weekend will the event keys and stones we collect dissapear or will they stay until the following weekend? I suppose they'll stay but would like to be sure.
Btw, i know this has no relivence to the topic, but Alrya, will the newest newsletter be posted on the website soon? I no longer recieve mine due to a stupid e-mail blocking thing >.<
We typically post the most recent newsletter to the newsletter archive two weeks after it's sent out. (I'm a little behind on last month's.)

On 11/06, the event NPC (Alchemist's Servitor) and the Alchemist's Chests will be removed. On 11/13, all event-related materials will be removed. The Philosopher's Stones and rewards from the stones will NOT be removed.
I love that Wizards hat and would like to keep it. Don't care about that skill it will have. Whaiting for that hat since interlude was lauched. Whould be nice if duration is for skill on accesory, but iaccesory would stay. Better make those weapons as shadow ones and increace probability to get em.
Wow, shadow accessories. >_< That's a whole new kind of evil. Such an abusive relationship NC Korea has with its playerbase. Shame that aspect can't be altered for us. So you've got accessories that can only be worn when they're seasonally relevant, and accessories (fantastic ones, no less) that disappear after wearing them.
That sucks.
I was looking forward to it, too. Should be a **** event, though, if the other rewards are as plentiful as certain other events this year have been.
Whee another nice event. The different philosopher's stones have different formulas for crafting. I found one I really like with a sort of midway in materials needs. For the rest of you worrying about bots I say forget them. Go enjoy yourself. Time to roll out the nuker!
how'd i know that was gonna be luda lol
i think i'll be rolling a summoner
smart bet would be the lvl 10 sps again but i really should change my second sub so i can use ports + summon friend

If the event drops appear automatically in inventory, go nuker. But if you have to pick up the event drops, I'd suggest other classes, like archers, and depending on where you're hunting, pole users.
Nukers kill quickly, but remember what slows them down is their footspeed (the time it takes to get into cast range) and their mana management requirements. A properly tweaked archer can get their faster, kill just as quickly (two arrow-shot mobs aren't uncommon), and they can easily get several strings of one-shot crits on top of it.
Seriously though if the head accessories vanish for good really whats the point they better have some awesome skills then like Prophecy of Fire buff or something.
Seriously though if the head accessories vanish for good really whats the point they better have some awesome skills then like Prophecy of Fire buff or something.
Well, did I read somewhere that when CT drops, they are going to get rid of all previous event items anyway? Santa hats, christmas trees, Salvation Bows, etc., etc., all gone? Maybe they just don't want to deal with any of that later.
Don't get me wrong: +1 in favor of event accessories giving end-game buffs. Just don't think it will happen. We'll see...
I've got a good few keys so far. I'm seeing how many I can gather before ending time on sunday.
I've poled my crafter dwarf from 36-near 41 today so needed a break. 77 keys since event started. Not to shabby off mostly light blue mobs. Also as soon as event started I got a mystic knife as drop. Woot for extra crystals.
The event is screwing with my class change plans! lol
the only problem i see with this event is that the items (bsoe, brez, qhp, ghp, etc) are all labled (for event) so that takes up yet another spot in the inventory, so in my wharehouse I have scroll of focus, scrol of focus (for event) and L2 Day scroll of focus, thats nuts.
Other than that the event is great, the hats regen on the skill is a bit long, but the effects are cool.
The recipes are amazingly common... I think I've managed about 100 or so keys so far, and I've gotten all six of the recipes registered already. I actually had doubles and triples of some  I traded the 5 a clannie didn't have for the one he had that I needed :p What's hard to get are those conversion formulas! I guess it helped I used a D grade alt to blaze through those mobs easily - I got a ton of keys in a short amount of time. That and more chest keys kept popping out from the chests themselves...
Fun even so far. I've gotten scrolls and GHP's - good enough for me :D
Well so far i've gotten 2 head accessories, and both of them had BREZ on them, and all the other ones in my clan have also got brez on them. (thats like 15 head pieces total i think, of all the 6 kinds)
is there ANY other skills they add?
(the event page says "random skills with 5-30minute recharge")
The conversion formulas are diabolically infrequent. Lots of heal potions and empower scrolls so far. I dunno if the accessories have anything other than those two skills, my Iron Circlet (http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/3549/ironcircletdc6.jpg) came with the bsoe skill.
I have gotten Bres on two accessories and big head on another... very useful. When the accessories's timer runs out, do they dissapear for good? I heard somewhere that they recharge when you taken them off? O_o I have kept mine off my head, but it doesn't seem to be recharging.
Rewards aren't that good TBH. I created some Blue and Green Philo stones, and the rewards where kinda (...)
I ended up with;
30x Greater Healing Potion (yeah! I just spoiled 100)
5x Quick Healing Potion (yeah! I got an EE running behind me)
6x Scroll: Death Wishper (yeah! yeah! My EE can't buff this!)
All the other rewards, except the A-Grade weapons (TBH I think the rate you get this is 1/IMPOSSIBLE) are just rubbish. The market is overflown again with Buff Scrolls, BSoE/BRes and to bad this time NO Enchant Scroll. I rather have an event with Enchant Scrolls (even D-grade and C-grade just for making money) then Buff Scrolls and Potions.
[EDIT]
Other thing that bugs me about this event is the items needed for each stone. Some stones are just harder to craft because of the quanities of Stone Ore and Magic Reagants are just unbalanced. All Stones eventually give the same kind of reward. A 1/IMPOSSIBLE chance of getting an A-grade weapon, Buff Scrolls, Head Assoirces and Potions. Why do Green Stones need more items then a Blue Stone but both give the same type of rewards?
Why do Green Stones need more items then a Blue Stone but both give the same type of rewards?
That's easy....because they don't! The Green stone yields the chance of the Shyeed bow. The dev's know that a lot of people are going to want that bow, so they are making those people work harder for them. Top that off with, we all know that Tyrants are popular in Korea (it's the only B-grade weapon you can trade with Mammon for), so the blue stone is easier to make. Haven't seen the list of materials required, but I would not be surprised to find that the Blue stone takes the least materials of them all. Bet there was a lot of blue stones made on the Korean servers when they had this event.
So oddly enough to get a bow, you need the *least* amount of materials, although the most stones. Conversely you need the most reagents for blue, which also requires the most total items although the fewest stones. The only reason to take this option though is if you want the 2H sword, as you can get the fists also off the much cheaper white stones.
So oddly enough to get a bow, you need the *least* amount of materials, although the most stones.
Factor in the amount you get, which is in the neighborhood of 4/1 occasionally and 2/1 normally for reagents/stones and you'll find you can make double the number of other stones compared to the one for the bow.
Well, the number of reagents is irrelevant since the formulas are much rarer. I have alot more ore and magic crap than the formulas, so all stones are good.
Well, the number of reagents is irrelevant since the formulas are much rarer. I have alot more ore and magic crap than the formulas, so all stones are good.
Having less formula's and lots of mats you can make only Green ones which give a bigger change of getting the highly demanded bow. Still have the feeling chances are 1/IMPOSSIBLE
50 ghp
That's about all i got from 5 stones. Oh well =/.
Maybe my luck ran out with the pigs :p.
Maybe if i run by it again a few times, maybe I'll get lucky, don't mess with the odds.
"The Lottery is a punishment for statistically challenged people". :)

So far I've seen screenshots of about 7 total weapons...
Figure how many have been opened and yeah those odds seem 1/impossible.
I'm tempted to just sell them for 200k a pop since they are getting up there. Thats about 16Mil/Hour I could make give or take if they all sell.
So far I've seen screenshots of about 7 total weapons...
So far, I have seen 1 Sheedy's Bow being sold on Franz thanks to the Event.
How many do you think you get a hour solo w/ OOP Prophet/BD?
Getting 15-20 Keys per DW Scroll (so that's 15-20 per hour). Not bad for a hour of grinding. Too bad the rewards are rubbish until now. Only getting pots, pots and pots.
the drop rate for the formulas is insane i went thru 250 keys, and a friend went thru 112 keys and neither of us got a single formula, but i have about 300 of each mat, and 3 of each circle
Actually the fact that they made the hats nosell/notrade/nodrop will
keep those items from messing up the economy, I would love to get a Top A weapon from this event but am happy to be getting
anything extra for hunting I'm already doing. Sure beats the words
"you have failed at creating....."
"tons of hard earned mats have just vanished plus some other stuff you wasted your money on"
I got a few hats now, about 100 ghp, 15 qhp, a pile of buff an soe scrolls...
I think after all the kvetchin about too many enchant scrolls, NCSoft got the message people were sick of em.
Opening chests is strange. I first went with 25 & got enough for 3.
So I hunt more, came back with over 100 & got enough for 6. I'm suspicious that for best results you must open only a few chests at a time.
whats the story about the hats? is it like the christmas hat (thats still in my warehouse waiting to be worn again) or can you use it any time you want forever?
whats the story about the hats? is it like the christmas hat (thats still in my warehouse waiting to be worn again) or can you use it any time you want forever?
the hats can have skills built in to them (like the salvation bows - equip and look in skill tree for it) but the moment they are equipped they START the skill refresh timer. this can be 15 mins +.
each hat has 300 shadow minutes of use, so 20 back-to-back uses of the skill will be the MAX you can get.
So far I've seen screenshots of about 7 total weapons...
Not sure if Alyra is reading, but if so, I wonder if we can get the official results of drops after the first weekend of the event is over...the total number of A grade weapons rewarded, as well as the other prizes per server.
you couldn't really do the event on elpies. you would outlevel them in a few minutes.
Although a low level poler in necropolis of sacrifice could probably bring in quite a lot of keys with proper buffs.
i exped myself to 78/78, why would i wanna go exp again i dont find it fun, stupid events when u have to go exp, raid boss events are fine, that requires some skill
Been doing pve events for the last year a nd a half, pvp already ffs
I think after all the kvetchin about too many enchant scrolls, NCSoft got the message people were sick of em.
I rather have Enchant Scrolls. More Enchant Scrolls on the market means more people gonna enchant and over enchant. Lots of OE'ing means more broken weapons means more crystals on the market which make getting crystals cheaper and easier.
hmm u just don't want to face reality...
there is no way the timers will be removed - NcSoft doesn't change the coding, Korea does. All these events are from there and there is no way it'll be changed.
I haven't used any of my keys but it seems like a lot of fun. Waiting until the end of next weekend to do anything.
I would still appreciate word from NC on why the event seemed to end early. Or was it only Erica? Yes I know it's late but I hope this is addressed by tommorow.

Because hats will so unbalanced the game that odds are it will never recover.
Truth!
Great event, disappointed at the hats frankly, wish the skill was just removed and we got to keep em and not be sold.
I don't mind free stuff from lvling. Going back to town and taking a break and common crafting changes the pace a little. Everyone send your good chi to me! A grade weapon coming up! I'll let you know which one I got :D :D

The main reason IMO is "so the keys can be farmed during weekends only (Friday-Sunday only) when almost everyone is playing".
Anyway, Jester Hat with BREZ skill, priceless. Too bad, it goes kaput after number of hours. Can we get the event head accessories transferrable to the other toons in our account?
The main reason IMO is "so the keys can be farmed during weekends only (Friday-Sunday only) when almost everyone is playing".
As far as this goes I think its well implemented. drop rate on keys seemed pretty high. Much better then Pig Event!
Limiting the time to gather keys was good. The market is flooded with keys on bartz. I managed to buy 250 of them last night afk for only 25k each. Compared to the people selling 80k to 800k for them.
Having key's, and mats removed after the event ends is good, cause Thanks Giving event is coming up soon! Which maybe the pumpkin event every one wants.
I just hope NCsoft adds Boss jewelry cause the bots got those bosses on lock down, and all jewelry is selling for insane prices!!
My problem with this event is that we can't keep our Hats. Jester, and Wizard hats look awesome, and actually add some love to the game; cause those apply to mid-evil (fantasy) type game like this one is.
I'd be more then happy to trade my Bsoe on my hat for a permeate hat!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just in case you didn't figger it out:
The keys, the ingredients, even the stones are tradeable.
So if the shadow hat is on the wrong character, that's just poor planning on the character's part. I don't think shadow anythings (weapons armor coupons) are ever tradable.
Ok i dont want to tell about the reward rates or ask about the weapons, i just want to ask a silly but serious question, why in the event managers and in the site everywere we see about the philoshophere stone and we craft Sages stone? Is there something with the second weekend of the event? we will then get "Philosophere Stones" or the philosophere stones and the Sage's stone is the same? Pls i need an official answer. I petitioned in game but they told me to ask here :/
Ty
You know what we need? We need event QUESTS! Lol, not just farming for things, I'd say things like the wedding gear quest, sure its a pain, but it'd be nice if it gave ya a random, COSTUME! The hats are nice, but the re-use timer on most of em is rediculous in a way, gotta wait 5 mins for a firework? How about 1 min, I've got about 921 keys and nothing good XD, And b4 u say anything, I use a big boom, killin nearly 100 mobs a pull :P, And i solo em with my oop SE, so i get all the drops, now i gotta say, the re-use timer on the keys..... Wow, spent bout 5 hrs just unlocking chests...... It'd be better to sell em imo XD.. But yea, where's the transmutation part of the event??? mayb thats the second drop time?? plz plz plz >.>
Never participated in that one, i don't remember the rewards being all that great tho, so there wasn't a reason... Still when i said quests i meant for like costumes in the same way theres wedding gear, Dwarven Nurse FTW!!!

ewa's werent good items back in c3?
of course, ONE for the winner. and only for thewinner.
16 on pole specials and non-skill attacking without fellswoop. Would assume it's either that or 20 for everything else. I distinctively remember when bigboom and aoe's in general got nerfed, so I find 100 hard to believe unless they increased the cap during the event, which.. I find harder to believe.
I farm sweet fluids for my friends on the silenos right outside giran, which go down in one hit from whirlwind. If I pull more than exactly 4 groups without FS I'm left with exactly the additional amount after doing WW.
FYI wait till next weekend if you have a lot of keys and are itching to open chests. You have a chance of getting more keys while opening chests. So 100 keys could become 130 keys.

Why is that? I did not understand
Because when you 'open' a chest, your actually 'killing' it. And it drops event items on death just like any other mob in the game. (Alchemist keys of course.)
So if you open them when the event items are dropping you will get extra keys. But if you open them now, when no event items drop, you don't get any more than what you already have.

Oh I didn't notice any keys dropping while opening chests during the last weekend. But then again maybe I was just unlucky. I will keep the rest of my keys for Saturday :)
I'm averaging about 1 formula per 10 keys. The only problem is having a warehouse full of GHP/QHP and event scrolls I don't use anyways. I still have buff scrolls dating back to when these types of events just started because I normally party and already have a buffer. I hope someone else besides bots get some A weps. I'm still praying for a Typhon Spear and I have 83 White Stones sitting in my warehouse till the weekend when I decide to open everything up at once. :D
The problem is the formula's are random and based on luck. I have gotten 4 formula's in a row but none in 20 straight keys at other times. Considering the rarity of these A weapons and how many people will be able to get their hands on one, I wouldn't mind them making the formula's a bit more frequent. We'll end up with a few more accessories, GHP, and other items, but besides the bots I highly doubt many more people will get a weapon out of this.
I have a teddy bear hat laying in my warehouse and I don't feel like wearing it because its going to disappear afterwards. :(
How to create the most stones given a certain amount of reagents and ore and that you aren't trying to get a specific type of weapon:
Divide the amount of reagents by the amount of ore.
If the number is greater than or equal to 6 then create Blue stones.
If the number is greater than or equal to 4.66 and smaller than 6 create Black stones, clear up with a blue if there are enough materials left.
If the number is greater than or equal to 3 and smaller than 4.66 Orange, clear up with a black if there are enough materials left.
If the number is greater than or equal to 2 and smaller than 3 create Red stones, clear up with an Orange if there are enough materials left.
If the number is greater than or equal to 0.857 and smaller than 2 create White stones, clear up with a Red if there are enough materials left.
If the number is greater than or equal to 0.353 and smaller than 0.857 create Green stones, clear up with a White if there are enough materials left.
If the number is smaller than 0.353 then create Green stones.
More concisely:
N >=6 create Blues
6 > N >= 4.66 create Blacks, clear up with a blue if there are enough materials left.
4.66 > N >=3 create Oranges, clear up with a black if there are enough materials left.
3 > N >=2 create Reds, clear up with an Orange if there are enough materials left.
2 > N >=0.857 create Whites, clear up with a Red if there are enough materials left.
0.857 > N >=0.353 create Greens, clear up with a White if there are enough materials left.
N < 0.353 create Greens
I was bored at work for a few minutes :P
Not 100% that is correct so I'd appreciate it if anyone would double check.
How to create the most number of stones: Look at the amount of formulas you have, choose what stones you want, craft. End up with over 300 surplus ore and reagents after that.
Amount of ore and reagents is irrelevant, you will never have enough formulas to use them all anyway.

lol thats what i assume will happen
i always open after the event
I have 250 keys from last weekend. Whats my best return? I am going to grind this weekend and then open chests Sunday night. I think they will drop more keys this weekend, right? Has anyone figured out which color yields more? Is it just a gamble everytime you use the stone? Or should I just try for the weapon I want?
Well, 700+ keys... 0 weapons. 3 Brez in total, 20 Bsoe, several hundred GHP and QHP and lots of junk hats. Oh well... if the hats were permanent without the effects, they would be nice...

seconded, i would love some of the hats. piggy and teddy-bear not included, they are ugly in my opinion.

I ran out of ore and reagents with 4 formula left :(. Maybe I'm just lucky..although the results of the stones don't really indicate that I am.
And yes I'd like to keep my Teddy Bear hats, without the effects. It's not like I need the skills that they give.
Can you guys please reduce the re-use delay on the keys. 4k keys from 2 weekends and I don't think I can even use half of them by tuesday when the chests disappear.
I haven't heard of a single person getting one of the weapons through this event. I'd really like to see some numbers of exactly how many were produced by this event on each server. I'm beginning to wonder if it's just a myth.
I turned in about 600 keys in all, got enough ghp to see me through til C12, qhp, scrolls of all flavours, 17 hats (all except the iron one), was a great fun event, really enjoyed it. Sure a wep would've been nice, but meh I wasn't expecting to get one, my luck rating was nerfed when i created the toons lol. Put on a lot of % while I hunted those keys too, which without the event I wouldn't have put on so much.
Now roll on the return of pumpkins - and please make it more like the first time and not like the second time you ran it - Gustin needs A crystals!
I'm a little disappointed. This could have been a great event, turned out to e just descent...
Background story was very good.
The mechanics was also very good (keys were not a burden in your inventory and I like the semi randomness of the prizes).
Key drop rates where nice
Basic prizes were ok, mid prizes (hats) were ok (would have been great if the skill cool down counter didn't reset when equipping the hat), high prizes were good.
The % of basic/mid/high was awful. Considering my bad luck on these events it was a given that I would not get one of the top prizes (lol not even 1 hat in over 300 keys) but I really expected somebody I know would get one and so far no one in my ally or in my ex-clans or the war tags I know got it. The closest I heard was somebody in hero chat announcing a Themis' Tongue.
But I don't complain... At least I got a decent amount of stuff I can use, If in one hand WW scrolls are too heavy (next time change it to Greater Haste Potion, plz), inthe other QHPs are very nice. All in all way better than the hair change or big head pots....
Really disaapointed in the event. The fact that you lose an item you worked your butt off for fighting and trying to keeps mobs that the bots aggro away sucks. I really do like doing the events, even liked the pig event and got a first mate hat (that does nothing). And oly making the weekends for key drops sucked. I shouldn't have even bothered with this. The Formulas were so few in coming from the chests, I have tons of mats but no formulas.
My main compalint is the items works only untill the event lasts. I got mostly potions. Nice potions but they will stop working tomorrow. Why the hell I cannot use my onw potions later is beyond my comprehension.
After the first weekend will the event keys and stones we collect dissapear or will they stay until the following weekend? I suppose they'll stay but would like to be sure.
On 11/06, the event NPC (Alchemist's Servitor) and the Alchemist's Chests will be removed. On 11/13, all event-related materials will be removed. The Philosopher's Stones and rewards from the stones will NOT be removed.
Can you elaborate? Are these the crafting materials or does this include the consumable rewards such as QHP, GHP, and scrolls which are marked "(Event)"? I was thinking only crafting materials will be removed but there seems to be confusion.
Man, if thats true that 500 keys worth of ghp are going to be useless when i log on later tonight i wont be happy. If i would have known that i couldnt use any of this [censored] after the event was over i wouldnt have participated.
Im truly hoping this isnt true. Of course if you really wanted to pound sand up your customers [censored], taking away the ability to use the petty rewards gained from an ungodly amount of grinding would be a good way to do it.
I doubt if the rewards themselves will be removed. Note that the scrolls marked with "(Event)" are the same rewards from the last event. They just help identify the source of the item and fatten up your warehouse.
I got 4 keys, what a wonderful event! Ah ha ha :)
When I read that someone used 1200 keys and got brez, bsoe, scrolls and pots, and a few hats, I decided I would not use an alt to farm keys.
It wasn't a bad event... it was just... useless. I hope if you farmed like 100 keys you sold them 100k, that would be nice 10 millions for example. For all those who turned the key into GHP... I'm sorry you got 923ed XD
most events have 70% of their time during the regular week
so to me it makes sense they have an event or two that doesn't give such an advantage to those who can play 24/7
this one was an interesting rewards' structure -- more like a big multistate lottery where most everyone gets nothing of value, but one or two people get an insanely huge jackpot
from an economy point of view, I'm glad this event's rewards were consumable things that don't introduce real wealth to the system
The Event Managers will remain in the villages until November 6, 2007 at 10:00 AM CDT (4:00 PM GMT+1).
Someone tellme WHY the chests get taken down only a day after the dropping of keys stopped? Why? I think they should be put back for a couple more days, I pretty much missed half of the event as it was because I went out of town, now I have the keys I DID get that are a total waste?!! Come...on. Seriously NC....

GMT, General Mountain? Cuz...that would mean they should still be up, no?? Someone tellme WHY the chests get taken down only a day after the dropping of keys stopped? Why? No I didnt...the servers were down for a while this morning. Giving one day to turn them in is pathetic. Most events leave an event manager (with chests for this one) for a week. Forgive me for not being able to turn them in the ONE day after the keys stopped dropping. For pity sake even if it WAS 1.5 days, thats a seriously short time. Especially for people that dont read forums (most do not).
Oh and yea, most of us do sleep, work, school, live...I didnt wander around l2 for a day and a half to neglect turning them in. This was just another event aimed towards the farmers, they get to run 24/7 and completely benefit from this.
Next time nc, save the event....let the farmers work for things instead of handing them perks and many of the rest of us frustration.
Wow, this event turned ugly for me. Knowing NPC will dissappear after the maintenance today, I used 100+ keys last night and got only two formulas, was the formula drop rates reduced? I know it's pure luck but it shouldn't be that bad unless the drop rate was reduced. I am still ******. Oh well.
Nice try NC. Try keeping the event NPCs longer next time, like you used to.
Can someone who got an iron circlet hat please post a close up of your chars head with it equipped? I'd like to add it to the fashion preview section on L2info.

You had 1.5 days to turn in all your keys
I got 400 keys over the weekend which u know i want a week to HAND in cos it takes me about 3 hours to hand that sh it in?
I couldn't pasrticipate in this event at all. It was definetely too short. And what's this with droping parts only 2 for 2 days? Way too short amount of time. Change this next time. I want the witch hat! :(
Event during weekends only?! Is L2 turning Anti-Social life and Anti-Family time?
Yah :/
Was only able to play the first weekend - the second weekend was completely reserved for family. Because, well, you don't sit and rot by the computer when someone has come to visit from far away. But from what I can tell from this thread, I didn't miss out on much. I did have a lot of fun with the event the first weekend - not much to show for it, but it was fun. Have it last longer next time plx. And give out proper accessories too ^_^
For the people who had no time to use all their keys I'd just say you should have taken the time needed to open chests and crafting into account in your playtime. You'd have got less keys but they'd all be used ...
I got less than 300 keys (total of the 2 WE) and took the time to open and craft before tuesday downtime. For once, farming has a bad side :P
They left the fireworks npc's up for how long? Those were only turn ins! The christmas tree event npcs were up for how long? The seed dude way back a year ago was up for how long? Yea, so why only an extra day this time when it took at least half a minute to open each and wait for the reuse time? I just dont understand why suddenly THIS event (the longest to turn in) was only out for an extra day.
Edit to add; The only extra day it was out was also the same day they released PTS, so a lot of people were doing a long download in order to participate in that too. So for some, there was no extra time really. Not everyone plays 24/7 yanno.
You had a week between the two weekends to use the keys from the first part... And it really didnt take that long to use keys. I spent over 700, prolly over 800 in the end and it did not take so long. Prolly an hour or two together and the crafting is done in a few mins.
There really was not a lot of time to turn-in. They should have ended the key drops and then allowed you a week to turn in the keys afterwards, since turning in the keys is so time consuming.
I do agree they shouldn't of removed NPCs. They did weekends so people with jobs could enjoy the event. Don't take the chests down less than 2 days after keys stop dropping....
I handed all mine in as soon as they stopped dropping and yes crafting (especially with SE/EE) is not time consuming. It did take awhile to bash 700+ chests though x_x
well im not going to say to much about the latest event and again my tragic luck with getting anything other than pots - but I have 3 things/suggestions/comments:
1 - PLEASE PLEASE stop calling the items gained xxxx-for event etc... A BSOE is a BSOE, a GHP is a GHP. but if i have 30 GHP's bought from PoD and 30 from the event I have to put them on my toolbar twice as the difference in name means they dont stack!
2 - The success rate at getting a formula from a chest downright sucked - for me in 100keys I got 1 formula ><
3 - IMO the hats should have had limited use of the skills (not that i got one :() but not be full shadow type accessory - yes part of this may have been to prevent bots etc selling the hats for huge prices, but it upsets the legit ppl that get a funky hat they can only wear for 300 minutes.
It is however nice to see something new other than the constant reuse of old events.
Cheers,
**
PS do we get to keep allll the leftover mats in our WH until the next time this event is re-run?
when is the poll coming up so i can say this event was a complete tease?(thanks for the qhp i guess)
also, having a 20 min timer on all the hat skills is incredibly stupid and makes them more worthless. ill maybe brez 2 people from a 300 minute hat, whoopie!
Key Timer I found fine. Conversion Formulas gained compared to the mats you got was too uneven. Im used to getting pots cause one day I wont and that is the day im waiting for.
As for the hats, that was cool, but I also believe there should have been a number of uses instead of time since to say, "Yeah no problem man I can brez ya, just gimme 30min." is kinda cruel in my mind or, "Dammit gotta keep running only 2min left on BSOE reuse plz plz dont catch up."
Just popping in again with my huge disappointment in this event...time just wasted since this is happening today, wondering how long we get to keep the keys though;
The following Trick or Transmutation event materials have been removed: All Transmutation Circles, Philosopher's Stone Ores, Philosopher's Stone Conversion Formulas, and Magic Reagents (all other items are not being removed at this time).
As already stated, you should have taken chest opening time into account in your playtime, it's not NCSoft's fault. And if you read carefully, they told the chests would be removed on november 6th.
Maybe you'll read through the event description next time ...
Take Xmas trees event: they remove stuff from 1st occurence of event just before 2nd occurence begins => it adds up in your inventory (if you don't destroy or drop them).
As players complain they don't have room enough in their inventory, NCSoft decided to change its habits and remove everything that has become useless once the event ended.
For my part, I'd be glad if it were like this for every future event they organize ...
but the items are not useless i still have all the recipies memorized what people are complaining about is that they hadnt taken the time to create all their items yet as they werent told we are removing these items. If people feel their inventory is cluttered destroy the items you have that option.
