Might GG "flag" these?

Hello..

Okay, so I've been thinking around a couple things lately dealing with running software to make running L2 a bit more "convenient" at the least and "downright possible" at most.

In the convenience category... There's an app that works with Ventrilo to allow you to see who's talking while in any DX-driven window. As I'm new to a clan and am still trying to place voices with names, I think this would be a very helpful app to have running. However, I don't want it to be flagged by GG as a "third-party app" and be suspended/banned for it. Anyone have experience with this, or perhaps, with the app that does the same for TeamSpeak?

Second, and this is something that I thought of earlier after finding that the game had crashed after barely 4 hours of my having a shop up (I went home for lunch). Figured it'd be nice to have some way to remotely re-start the game when it does crash or I get disconnected. I think something like PCAnywhere would be very good for that purpose. But again, same as the other app, I don't know if this would be flagged as a "third party" app by GG. And, again, don't want to risk it.

Call it paranoia in each case, but, well.. any software can be quirky and you never know if either of those perform some kind of function that might flag for GG.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks :)
My thoughts/experience with gameguard is that if some app is ID by GG as 3rd-party, it just won't run. Either the app won't run, or you can't get lin2 to run.

I had problems with a Microsoft brand USB keyboard. There's really no limit to the kinds of things GG will $%^ up.

But I don't think they use GG to do bans as much as to block certain types of applications. It's sposed to be proactive instead of retaliatory.

Ahh okay, so it's not necessarily GG specific, then. I mean I've read plenty about players being banned for use of 3rd party software, so somewhere along the line there's detection of it. Since I don't know what is flagged for, or the methods used, just a bit concerned that either of those might be falsley flagged.

As for GG interfering with things, yeah I think I experienced this first-hand last night. Apparently, Firefox and GG don't play well together. Any time I'd be browsing in FF, after a few URLs are loaded, pages would just stop loading and if I try to close the window, it crashes.

Anyway... I wonder if I could get a definitive response direct from a NCS rep about this.
And the best thing is: GG may create some sort of "shell" for client it's protecting. WHATEVER client. Modified client. Or maybe even some other client. Other way I cannot explain why TS overlay does not pass to your screen output or FF gets no communication, but IG tool does. If it's protecting network communication that much against sniffing, how come some t00l sees my HP?
It does not verify with server if correct client is running, and if it's verifying, then in some very sloppy way that can be decrypted or h4ck3d. Popular automating tolols use no GG and yet connect to game (orthey fake it, but connect anyway).
So ... what's such tool for, except blocking innocent applications and screwing system?
Oh.. so it does block TS Overlay? Good chance it might block the one for Vent then too. Ick.

BTW.. love the avatar. Commander Keen rocks :)
Hey you remember him??? :) OMG today's heroes are somewhat nameless, well Gordon Freeman and Lara Croft may be well known and Duke Nukem to some extent but other than that ...
Sorry for OT.

Heheh.. of course I remember CK... "Aliens Ate My Babysitter", "Keen Dreams"... The Dopefish! Classic ID Software :)

The detection methods used to locate and ban botters are generally called "other players".

If a bot's not petitioned (a lot), it doesn't get banned.

GameGuard supposedly stops a broader range of automating software from working at all, leaving few applications that *can* be used. Which, I suppose, keeps the bots down to a minimum... but the RMT industry is certainly one that encourages people to invest in the tools that do work, rather than give up.

problem being the biggest automated hunting l2 software doesn't even use Lineage2 retail client at all to function its really silly that you can connect to the servers without even needing GG functioning lol.

GG doesn't ban you... it just blocks out pre determined programs it determines to be hacked software.

giving third party program users the "Keep trying until you get it right method" >.<
I use team speak and teamspeak overlay without any issues and have done so for over 2 years without any negative affects or being banned.

Ahhh.. well that's promising, then. I guess it's safe enough to use the overlay.

I figured it might have been a bit of paranoia on my part, but I'd rather be paranoid and "wrong", than presumptuous and "wrong" :)

I'll give it a try.

I also have looked into a remote access app... but so far it seems to be pretty useless. I can see my desktop, but can't actually do anything. Yay.

Edit: Found out the reason I can't interact with my PC at all is because I'm running L2 in Full-Screen mode. Even though I can see the desktop remotely, I can't interact with it. I could assume that it's running fine so long as I don't see a crash window, however, sometimes it's still full-screen but has been disconnected. So it's still relevant. Anyway, just a tip for anyone else who might want to try something like this :). You need to be running L2 in windowed mode for a remote access program to work.

Thanks again.
