PK ??

General Discussion Started Last reply 73 posts
Hi all, I'm new to this game and I have a question about the PK/Karma system. I was working on my Path to a Knight quest earlier, doing the step to kill Giant Spiders on Talking Island, when something very unfortunate happened.

I saw someone else there, named Tjkjkkhjtjk or something like that. I tried talking to him, but I think it was a bot because there was no response and he was just methodically killing the Spiders in the area one by one. So I gave him a tap just to see what would happen, and that turned me purple (as I knew it would). The bot (I believe) sat down to rest, still without saying a word, so I hit him again. That was probably pretty stupid on my part, because at that point he died!

So now I'm flagged red and I'm nervous because I don't want to lose any of my stuff; I never wanted this to happen in the first place. I kill a couple more Spiders and I'm losing some Karma, when all of a sudden the bot comes back! Only now, instead of killing Spiders, it makes a b-line straight for me and starts hitting me again...but for some reason he stays white the whole time. Is this because I was red? Is there no penalty for attacking a person flagged red? So I had no choice, I had to kill him again before he killed me and I lost my items.

Long story short, this happened about 6 or 7 more times. The bot (it must have been...) would continually come back, come STRAIGHT FOR ME, and attack! Even when I moved a bit down the road it still came back; there was nothing I could do but keep dispatching him. Then, one time, I guess the person came back to their keyboard, because halfway through the fight they used a Scroll of Escape. I stopped attacking and walked away, because like I said, I really didn't want to fight anyway. A few minutes later, however, he was back and trying to kill me again. I could tell it was a real person this time, because they would move around a bit more and also turned on Soulshots, etc. Still, I won the fight, and he fell dead once again.

So here is the kicker: my Karma is now up to roughly 10,000 and I run to go turn in my quest, which I have now finished. The first Guard I see one-shots me with an arrow and I die, losing maybe 200 Karma, and a couple of my pieces of armor. Then, who comes by to scoop them up? None other than my old friend Tjkjkkhjtjk! THEN, I elect to resurrect back at the village (the nearest village I thought??) and instead of coming back in Talking Island Village I am transported far away to Floran Village, a place where I have never even been before. So now I have to spend money for a transport and then wait for that ****ing Ferry all over again??? What the ****??

And thank you if you actually read all of this, I really do appreciate it, so here at last is my question: What the hell do I do now? This is completely ridiculous, it really is. Am I now perma-red until I grind out THOUSANDS of mobs to lose all of that Karma? Will guards continue to KOS me and will I continue to lose my equipment and other inventory items? What a horrible experience in a game that I was really enjoying this far. Is this what I have to look forward to? I have a busy enough life...I get a few hours every couple of days to game, and I prefer to spend that time...well...enjoying it! Nothing to bash Lineage II at all, but have I picked the wrong title for my playstyle?

Anyway, any comments at all are welcome and much appreciated. Thanks in advance for reading and replying...

go play wow
lol.... start a new char :p btw you can only drop items when you have 5 pks or more.. Or you can go to a blackjudge and do sineater quest to lose the pks but that cost some items :(

go play wow

For your information, I do play WoW. I have for three years. WoW is a great game which you probably know nothing about.

I've also played AC, EQ, EQ2, SW:G, FF11, Vanguard, etc. But RIGHT NOW I'm playing L2, and your comment has nothing at all to do with this post.

lol.... start a new char :p btw you can only drop items when you have 5 pks or more.. Or you can go to a blackjudge and do sineater quest to lose the pks but that cost some items :(

My option is to start a new character ??
real nice. wincy, first off you won't drop items (iirc) if your pk count is <5, so that shouldn't have been a concern. the other guy wasn't going purple on you because you were red; it won't make you flag if the guy your hitting is already chaotic, only if they are white/purple. most pks, when they die/soe, will end up in floran, which is why the area tends to be crawling with reds most of the time. you can occasionally end up in other areas of the map, but that one is the most common.

path to a knight quest is first class change right? that kind of sucks for you (sorry, but its true) as 10k karma at lv 19 is going to be tough to work off, and i don't know that the ferryman will even talk to a red. you'll probably have to end up swimming back to ti if you try to return while you still have karma.

sorry i don't have better news for you; the good thing is that there's a pretty easy quest you can do (once you're white again) that will allow you to remove your pks, so eventually you'll be able to get back to <5 and not have to worry about dropping items anymore. what server are you on btw? if it's bartz i might be able to give you a hand with this. :)
Ok I thought this game's servers were supposed to be FFA PvP?? But it is more like, don't kill anybody kids or the guards will come after you! So there really isn't any PvP outside of guild wars?

The whole reason I started this game was because what I read reminded me fondly of the days of Darktide in AC, except with predefined classes (which I like).

From what I understand now, this game is more carebear than the WoW PvP servers.
Reroll a character. It'll be faster.
If you happen to PK someone, if it is the first time, kill yourself and the karma will be gone. Then if you're attacked he'll turn purple so you won't take a PK if you kill him.
Now if you have a lot of PK and Karma, you will have the problem of item dropping a long time. There's a quest to remove PKs, but it costs alot for new characters like yours. So you'd better start over.

Don't pay attention to Insanity, he didn't even read your post. He read "PK" and thought you were a newbie crying about being PKed.

PS: No this is not a free pvp game. It would have been a mistake. The PK/Karma system is still the best I know for full pvp games. But if you want to discuss about what carebear is, deathmatch without consequence or risk of dropping stuff while fighting out of a war and XP loss in all cases? Then Insanity will answer you.
that's not really the case. only in the starter areas are there roaming guards. the rest of the map the only place you'll see guards around is at the entrance to town, so pretty much it's a free for all as far as the pking is concerned. most people who are planning to pk actively do so after they've completed their class changes and got their skills, so as long as they have a runner to go back to town for them they never need to set foot inside of one again...not to mention the fact that with some more levels under your belt you can actually just outright kill the guards =p
1. obviously that "bot" wasn't.

2. welcome to lin2. Make a new character because you'd waste more time on this first character than it's worth.

3. this story is kinda lame -- next time make it funnier, please.

Ok well that does make sense. :) Thanks for the response...really wish I didn't have to reroll though, but I do think this game seems like a lot of fun so perhaps I'll just have to suck it up eh?
Roll an Orc, they're lots of fun :)

Ok, first off, you don't have to reroll. Just deal with the Karma. Work it off. It is part of the game.

As for FFA pvp, it is. You just have to deal with certain consequences. It is unfortunate you found out this way but in L2, if you kill someone who isn't flagged, you have to really be determined to do so and deal with what comes next.

When the game first came out, people would also try to trick people into going red so that they could then kill them and get the drops.

What you might not realize is that there is a bit of the "ruthless" in L2. There is nothing "fair" in L2. It is about power, about allies, about scamming, about revenge and of course grinding ;)

It is ok to scam and trick people in L2, it is ok to shut down an entire hunting spot for an alliance in L2, it is ok to camp the starter areas and never let the new players level in L2.

It is because of this freedom that factions of people form who then try to counteract those who do scam, take hunting grounds, hold new player lands hostage.

You really need to understand the scope of this game if you are going to play. You have to have a thick skin and you have to deal with "what comes".

Good Luck and welcome to the game. :D
for starters let me just say that you got owned and you should have prolly done some research

a red character is a free pvp for anyone who wants to attack you with no risk to themselves

when you are under 6 PKs or over 6 PKs and white/purple you will never drop items so the smart move would have been to run away or die off the karma from the first PK

if your toon is under 40 the best bet is to just make another toon
most NPCs will not interact with a red toon with the exception of floran village and a few other places
you can wearhouse your gear in floran and die off the karma or ship it to your new toon

You are exactly right in my experience, people avoid PvP like the plague in L2 because of the harsh consequences of actually daring to attack anyone. You are instantly made into a villain, shunned by every town, and in danger of losing your items (as you have found out) for PvPing in a so called PvP game. All because 'you must not hurt the poor little white named player who doest want to die'.

It is 100x more carebear than WoW and I think you will find you dont enjoy it at all if you are used to the fun, consequence free PvP of WoW. :(

At low levels you will not find people willing to have a good PvP fight with you, it is all about trying to trick people into going purple so they can be attacked, manipulating the flagged status of people to avoid consequences. Usually anyone you do kill will then log a high level character to kill you now that you are red, although of course they didnt want a fight when you were white did they? Oh no. ;)

Reds are hunted down as if they have committed some awful crime just because they did some PvP in a PvP game. I find it very odd and dont like the system at all, but luckily I enjoy the rest of the games content and that makes up for it.

Just dont expect to have fun in PvP, at least until you are very high level and can do Sieges etc.

if your toon is under 40 the best bet is to just make another toon

Does it not strike anyone as utterly ridiculous that because a guy did some PvP in a PVP game he should have to remake his entire character??!
He did some stupid PVP, now he has to face the consequences. Learn the rules of PVP, stick to them. Imo, he should have just died the first time when the bot came back. Problem solved.

Or better yet, CHANGED hunting spot to a totally different location and wash the karma like all smart people do.
Funniest part of this is that after that first PK, all you had to do was die one time and all your karma would have been gone and you wouldn't have dropped anything.

I guess the sad part is that this game does not fully point out the core game mechanics to new people.

He did some stupid PVP, now he has to face the consequences. Learn the rules of PVP, stick to them. Imo, he should have just died the first time when the bot came back. Problem solved.

Heavens! I'm going to agree with Charmille!!!

It's important to read and understand the outline of basic play in L2 (or any complicated game) before rushing off to slaughter the helpless.

As for the comments about reds being 'fair game'--lol, of course they are. Part of the charm.

I think the other player in this story suckered the OP pretty well. I did the same on Botz (erm, Bartz) not long ago. Then of course I had to listen to the big, bad Red whine like a whimp for a half an hour.....jeesh.

You don't wanna drop stuff? Don't kill helpless lowbies and amass 6+pks then.
I'm sorry to hear you didn't know the rules of engagement in this game before going and doing that :(.
Now you do (i hope) so you should be ok, if you can live with them :p.
And saying this game is more care bear then wow ? Dear god, I've lived to hear that too  .

You are exactly right in my experience, people avoid PvP like the plague in L2 because of the harsh consequences of actually daring to attack anyone. What level are you?

Thats not the case at all at high levels. Going red is a almost every day thing.

Reds are hunted down as if they have committed some awful crime just because they did some PvP in a PvP game. I find it very odd and dont like the system at all, but luckily I enjoy the rest of the games content and that makes up for it.

No one hunts down reds unless they are a war tag...

Unless your talking about complete newbs (ala yourself and the above poster it looks like..), then they tend to die too.

This isnt Prelude or C1. Reds now a days are nothing special, they killed someone for a reason, let em pass, odds are they wont even bother you. You bother them? Grats you got a war.
I really don't think it's a true story, myself. But trolls are welcome in the world of Aden.

The reason to re-roll isn't the karma, but that it's a bother to be over 5 pks that young in a character's life. You can certainly die off the karma fast, but also given the vastly empty lands of Talking Island, you can work it off.

The reason to re-roll a new character is there's been so little time/effort invested in it so far, and the OP (as portrayed) seems like someone who'd benefit from extra practice.

As far as WoW - what passes for PvP there is absurdly carebear. You can't take someone's items, you can't make them red, you can't de-level them. In lineage2, death means something (outside of WoW-like arena combat) -- you're costing them.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't know the rules of engagement in this game before going and doing that :(.
Now you do (i hope) so you should be ok, if you can live with them :p.

And if not? There's all those big links in white letters to the LEFT of the forums and one of 'em says "L.I.B.R.A.R.Y." and when you click that.....there is a section called player-vs-player combat.
It is really easy to read and understand and gives every detail about the combat system and karma system that you need to know.
You people are all to harsh with your responses. He wants some constructive comments not vitriol about whats already happened.
First thing to say is if you get back to TI with the ferry, there's a good chance a guard will get you again. So don't bother. You'll end up near Floran again.
Fellmere Harvest ground, Ruins of agony/Despair and the areas around there have no guards and few people to bother a red. If you're determined to work off the karma, you could lose quite a bit there.
I'm not sure if the newbie guides/tokens work for a red. If they do, get to Dwarven village and then go to the abandoned coal mines and down into the pit. No guards there and some good mob to lose karma to.
It can be hard to get back to white from 10k karma. I made a bot killer in the last event and deleted him in the end. I have loads of chars so it didn't really bother me. However, if its your main, I can understand your reluctance to start again.
I lost 3k karma hunting in Ivory Tower Crater after killing some bots. It can be done as long as people leave you alone.
Just remember starter areas have guards and they eat low reds for breakfast. All towns have reds at the gates. TI has guards all over it.

If you need help buying or moving items, let me know where you are and what server you are on. I have chars on all servers so might be able to help.

Does it not strike anyone as utterly ridiculous that because a guy did some PvP in a PVP game he should have to remake his entire character??!

big difference between pk and pvp
i'm sure you will appreciate it the first time someone runs up and one hits you

Well, excuse me for not pointing out the obvious .
I'm all about helping people, but I believe people should know better how to help themselves, it isn't hard, it's common sense.
Oh well...

He did some stupid PVP, now he has to face the consequences. Learn the rules of PVP, stick to them. Imo, he should have just died the first time when the bot came back. Problem solved.

exactly.

This game is about decisions. It's not about a big "free for all".

Had the op died the first time it would have been problem solved. You can't blame the game because someone didn't know the rules.

It's like exposing your King in Chess, being told that "checkmate" is the end of the game and then saying that is a stupid rule.

It is what it is.

Not to say that this game can't be harsh but come on now. Players have been going red since the game started. Heck, I remember hiding in the Ant's nest with clannies for quite some time because of pk's and washing Karma. Hiding in different areas of this world in order to wash.

Now it seems like people are just giving up.

Like others said, if you are on Hinde, let me know, and I'll help out.
lol when i first started i got to like 15 an headed to TI someone showed me a bot ( i didnt understand what it was at the time) an he told me to go smack it a few times, so i went red. after that i decided to pk a few more ppl then got owned by a guard because like wincy i didnt understand pvp mechanics. so its understandable the mistake he/she made wincy if your on hinde let me know ill get you washed

What level are you?

Thats not the case at all at high levels. Going red is a almost every day thing.

Who was talking about what happens at high levels? Certainly not the OP or me. Try saying something relevant huh?
What server do you play on... I have about a month, i might be able to help some.

big difference between pk and pvp

Only in a carebear game. ;)

And please, why does everyone assume people with different views are newbs. Ive been playing over a year, doesnt mean I like everything about the game or will ever think that starting a game, taking weeks to get to level 39 with your first ever character and then being told to re-roll just because you killed someone in A PVP GAME makes any sense.
pvp != pk
pk in L2 is akin to murder, sure the OP just killed a helpless bot but how is the game meant to differentiate between that and going on a noob killing spree?

there are penalties in L2 for PKing ppl and although most higher lvl players ignore them the O.P - as a lower lvl player, got owned by them
full stop
I didn't read this whole thread, but yeah, it sucks if a new player somehow ends up with karma. It's near impossible to get rid of at that level, and the smartest thing is to make a new character lol ><

What level are you?

Thats not the case at all at high levels. Going red is a almost every day thing.

You said stuff about high levels. You also made a broad assumption about the game, with obviously very little real factual knowledge.

You sir, are [Censored].

and the smartest thing is to make a new character lol ><

I disagree.....Wash your characters karma. Sure you will loose alot of levels, but you will gain alot of much needed "SP" skill points. And use this as a learning lesson.

You said stuff about high levels. You also made a broad assumption about the game, with obviously very little real factual knowledge.

I said 'stuff' about high levels?

I would love to know what 'stuff', this is a topic about a new player and my comments were about what a low level experiences in PvP / PK terms.

Please re-read it, a few times preferably, you might be able to make a comment that isnt just an attempt to show off your leetness (I think you just show off your ignorance personally) whilst looking down on newer players and saying nothing even slightly relevant (aka being a troll).

Yes you have been playing ages, have 10 level 80's and no life whatsoever. Congratulations, can we be like you one day please? :)

I strongly suspect you cant remember what levelling 1-40 is like the very first time, and you have forgotten that it doesnt take 2 days and that new players dont triple box everything with a 7x SE and PP to back them up. They also dont take part in high level PvP content. You just sound a bit thick when you comment on what the game is like these days for new players 1-40. You honestly dont know do you?

You sir, are ******ed.

And that says it all about you really, well done on sinking to the level of the average WoW player. I hope you are not older than 12. :p

It is 100x more carebear than WoW and I think you will find you dont enjoy it at all if you are used to the fun, consequence free PvP of WoW. :(

mmmmmkay.
0 consequence = carebear... counterstrike... whatever.
Who's frightened to go red and drop? The supreme warrior or the carebear?

Oh BTW if you want 0 consequence PvP, have fun on PTS. I know it doesn't last long, but the ridiculous mess it turns into because nobody cares what the characters become would fit you.

:)

go play wow

Go easy on him. He's new here and maybe next time give him tips. We need new blood. Lots of new blood that are not automated.

Wincy, what server are you on? If you're on Hinde or Gustin I could throw you a hand.
I can understand you are hot under the collar with the way the new player is being treated, but i don't think name calling will help.....
I agree, post about to be edited.
Reality check, when did anyone find a bot that is programmed to run from town and attack reds?

Reality check -- the knight quest only requires one kill, and there's more than adequate spawns for an army of knight wannabes.

The premise of this thread is a hoax.

It's not the first time that a veteran player got a new forum account and pretended to be a nub.

I said 'stuff' about high levels?

I would love to know what 'stuff', this is a topic about a new player and my comments were about what a low level experiences in PvP / PK terms.

Reread your first and fourth paragraphs, and tell me you were *specifically* talking about low levels and not *in general* about Lineage 2.

Thought so.

I strongly suspect your a [censored], but whatever.

Just FYI, since we just came back to the game after a few months break, we decided to reroll on Bartz, where yes, I started at level 1 just like every other n00b, without any high level buffer. (So I'm subclassed now, big deal..I did those low levels just like everyone else, no PoF/PoW/CoV/etc)

And that says it all about you really, well done on sinking to the level of the average WoW player. I hope you are not older than 12.

My son is that age ;) I cant help it if you are what you are. Perhaps if you werent acting stupid, you'd get a better reaction.

Then you go and post this:

taking weeks to get to level 39 with your first ever character and then being told to re-roll just because you killed someone in A PVP GAME makes any sense.

The OP said level ********19******** not 39. Depending upon Karma, it would be better for him to restart at that level. A completely new player can still hit 19 in a day or two without too much issue assuming average play time. (One of ours, from WoW, did it in 9 hours.... completely and utterly new to the game)

Hey, WoW called, they miss you....

Reread your first and fourth paragraphs, and tell me you were *specifically* talking about low levels and not *in general* about Lineage 2.

Its called being on topic, something you dont understand.

You know, where what Im saying refers only to low levels because the topic is about low levels . Sorry if thats too simple for you to comprehend.

You might like to try being on topic sometime instead of posing and talking rubbish. However it seems you need me to explain threads to you first and sadly it would be a long job and I dont have the time. Good luck getting a clue. :)
Hey guys thanks for all the replies...well, for the most part. :)

First off, no I am not a troll, no I am not faking. I really just (obviously now) didn't understand the rules for PK in this game. And no, I'm not positive it was a bot, it just seemed that way to me. And to be more specific, yes it did kill a couple other mobs over the course of time, but in general it was always headed right in my direction.

I'm a bit surprised that someone doesn't even flag purple when they are attacking a red...So I just have to sit there and die to avoid getting another PK? That seems kind've stupid to me. But yes, it is my fault, I obviously didn't know the rules the way I thought I did.

Anyway, the verdict is:

(a) I can grind off the Karma somewhere safe, but my question is does it matter that I won't be able to do my first class transfer until a higher level?

(b) I can suicide until the Karma is gone...in this case, how long would it take? How many levels would I probably lose?

(c) Find someone to help me work it off. This sounds best to me. :) I am on Hindemith server if anyone would be nice enough to lend some assistance!

(d) Restart my character. If it comes down to this, I would probably just go back to playing Vanguard honestly. I realize some of you can level to 19 like nothing, but I have very limited playtime, and it wasn't exactly fast for me to get this far. Besides, I was so excited about becoming a Knight!

To sum it up, thanks again for the replies AND NO THIS IS NOT A TROLL.

Hope to hear more soon,

Wincy

(a) I can grind off the Karma somewhere safe, but my question is does it matter that I won't be able to do my first class transfer until a higher level?

If you are still in Floran area, do this:

- Head west.
- Run North through the plains of Dion.
- Head West through the south end of the runis of agony.
- Drop into the second trench area (53/54, 27/28 on the grid)
- Level on Eyes and Ratmen. You can even level on the skeletons south of the Ruins.

No one is going to go through there. Those areas are usually completely devoid of players, even bots. If I was on Hindesmith I'd come help you. If it wasn't in the middle of an event right now, I'd roll a toon there just to do that. Although, you really don't need help unless you want to transfer what is left of your gear to a new character.

As for your second class, it isn't critical to your leveling at this point. Just work off the karma. While you are in Floran, go to the Black Judge on the south end by one of the windmills and get the Sin Eater quest.

You know, where what Im saying refers only to low levels because the topic is about low levels . Sorry if thats too simple for you to comprehend.

You woudnt have worded it the way you did then.

But w/e I guess, your new, I'll forgive you just this once youngling.

Now quick, go back to asking about BD's and what a enchant armor does! *snap*
I made a human.... But i'm assuming that you don't go by Wincy for a character name. :)
I just have one thing to say L2 is like the real world by it has Government, economy, businesses, organizations, friendly people, bad people, downright evil people, scammers, cheaters, carebears, wussies, crazy people... etc. etc. etc.

"Welcome to the 'World' of Lineage 2"

Anyway, the verdict is:

(a) I can grind off the Karma somewhere safe, but my question is does it matter that I won't be able to do my first class transfer until a higher level?

Not terribly much so at around L20...your gear matters *much* more than your skills do. At least it does if your a 'physical' damage class. AKA anything but a nuker. And even then a nuker's spells in pair with green mobs and some BSPS, can last quite a bit longer than you might think at first.

On the other hand, I really wouldn't want to rely to heavily on praying no one notices you grinding off the red with 'good gear' is worth it.

(b) I can suicide until the Karma is gone...in this case, how long would it take? How many levels would I probably lose?

I wiped a bot team with my L45~ish SH not too long ago, about 4-5 bots in this team, and it took me down to L44 and about 8 or 9 deaths at a minimum. (From what I remember of the death penalty.) With ~10K karma your talking a LOT of dying. (I think I lost roughly 380 karma per death.) So much so, that I think you'll run up to the L4 'cannot lose XP' wall before you die off all the karma. Certainly you could die as much as you can, and then level until you can die again, but the cost in death penalty scrolls will probably get ridiculous.

(c) Find someone to help me work it off. This sounds best to me. :) I am on Hindemith server if anyone would be nice enough to lend some assistance!

This is one of your better options actually...if you can find someone trustworthy to help you out. Be better if they just gave you some money/gear so that you can relevel a new character though...seriously once you have a top NG weapon you can level 1-20 in a very short period of time. Even as a casual player. Mobs from 1-8 fall ridiculously fast to top NG, even without SS, and after than you get some very good newbie buffs that help even more. (Assuming you are white and can talk to the NPC to get them.)

Restarting your char is the fastest and easiet thing to do here. As long as you save your old gear, you will be amazed how fast the levels come. I've done a LOT of deleveling to farm stuff, and once you get the gear and/or consumables you level *very* fast compared to the first time you grind up.

Quite simply because your actually doing two grinds at once..the money grind and the XP grind. And of the two the money grind is the harder one since the devs throw roadblock after roadblock up after cranking the difficutly to 11 on making money.

Assuming you want to keep the name of first char. Just make a second 'temp' char and give it your gear. Delete your first char. After seven days, when it finally is permanently deleted, remake a new char with the same name and trade it back the gear from the second. In the meantime you can use the new char rewards from the second char to boost the gear you have.

If your fine with taking a new name and just want to have the same class, just delete the first char and level with the second. In the end this is the easiest coarse of action. I've done this type of thing once before. I had a L40+ Destroyer I wanted to change the name of, so I deleted the character wholesale and remade a new one with the name I wanted. Of the whole process, only the 2nd class changes quests were frustrating.
There has been a lot of good advice for you so far, so I will only mention 1 thing . Log on your red toon, move to an isolated area, then log back to the start screen, roll a new toon, and when you can, go to the same area. Log in your original toon, drop all items on the ground - make sure NOONE is around - log in your other toon and pick it up. Keep this toon in your list for when you need it to kill bots to avoid your new main going red - or delete it.

Playing off karma at this point may give you SP, but you are at the mercy of just about EVERYONE in the game - you're red, and you will be killed - and you will lose more items.

Additionally, you will most likely have to go red again in the future - to protect a hunting spot - kill a bot that's stealing your kills - any number of reasons - if Your PK count is that high, it would have a suckage factor of 12.0 to drop a C grade weapon on your first intentional kill.

You learned something from this - take it for what it is, and enjoy the game.

I would NOT do this, at all.

Around every town, and in most hunting spots in L2, are characters setup to do nothing but pick up drops from people who have the same innocent tought as this poster. You can test it fairly easily. Go somewhere OUTSIDE of Giran, yet close to town, drop 1 million adena and watch from a distance. I can guarantee you that some random character will walk STRAIGHT to wherever you hid the adena and pick it up.

I've had to see this painful conclusion after losing adena/items plenty times while "trading" them between characters. Good thing there's a freight service now ^^
it is a risk, but if there's no freightman in Floran, he has no choice but to lose the little NG equipment he has left. While UBER chars in clans and lvl 7x might not worry about the small comparative cost of this NG equipment, new players do.

That's why I suggested an isolated spot - and don't drop until your other toon is right there to pick it up. Isolated does not mean just outside of one of the most populous town on any server.

I did this method of transferring equipment for a long time, until I discovered the Freightman - and never lost a single piece of equipment - just use a little caution, use your head and your eyes.
Bah!

I went red on my OL and killed lots of bots on a whim. Was the best thing I ever did. I even got the OL white again by going to places no one goes to anymore because they are to high level.

I guess it depends on what server your on. On my server ppl asked me why I was red and I said bot killer. Not only did they not kill me they helped me out.

PVP does have consequences. However most low red players are left alone unless they are known griefers. All I can say is good job and welcome to the club.
The best thing he can do is to off load his stuff to someone he can trust and work on washing the red.

And i for one am willing to help,

From what I understand now, this game is more carebear than the WoW PvP servers

how is lineage carebear?????????????? because u can go red and have to avoid dieing???? drink a can of man (no offfense to the ladies) or go back to WoW. u'll always have to deal with pk'rs in this game, thats how it works. later in game u'll see there are characters that are high lvls and are perm red. . . (Example: Scabies on kain)

woot go scabies haha
Hey everybody, just wanted to post an update in case anybody was interested. :)

Wanted to say thank you to the general population of Hindemith, as when I logged on last night I got multiple tells from people offering help that had read this post. I think that says a lot about the community here!

Special thanks to SuperFast (last night) and Krissa (this morning) who, through a combination of powerleveling me, killing me, and rezzing me have brought me down to 0 Karma and still allowed me to retain level 19! Now I just have all those PKs to worry about. :)

But yeah, seriously, thank a lot everybody, the help was MUCH appreciated. I will continue to enjoy my time in L2...

Now I just have all those PKs to worry about. :)

Sin Eater Quest (http://l2vault.ign.com/View.php?view=Guides.Detail&id=342)

FYI - If you talk to the Black judge at the Souther Entrance to the wastelands (In spitting distance of the port spot, next to a big rock.) you only have to kill Turek Warhounds which are only L20. The Trisalim Spiders listed in that quest are in the 40's. The person who did the quest writeup talked to the 3rd black judge near Hardin's. The second is just outside Floran, near a windmill...haven't used her for starting the quest so I cant say what mobs she wants you to kill.

Also, for any of the possible start points the materials you need for the manacles stays the same. And at L19 it may be too costly for you unless you get some help. (I think it came out around 500K for everything if you pay NPC price....most of it in the blacksmith frame.)

Also the Sineater 'pet' takes 100% XP while it is out, and it eats a lot of wolf food, so stock up if you use it. (It's fairly fragile as well, so watch where you hunt with it.) Turning it in takes 1-10 pk's off, although I have to say the chance of more pk's removed seem related to leveling the sineater up more than the minimum.

I've done it and only gotten 1 pk removed 9 times out of 10. (When I had only 2-3 pks) But the last time I had 8 PK's, leveled the sineater 2 levels and it took off all 78 at once.

In my case though, I didn't stick around when the operator got back to their bot, but 'hid' a short distance away and gave my gear to my buffer then 'died it off' on mobs, rezzing with the buffer. (social mobs, non aggro, buffer OOP)

Unless you have an entire party or more with you helping out, your better off doing a hit & run if you go red than sticking around.

(d) Restart my character. If it comes down to this, I would probably just go back to playing Vanguard honestly. I realize some of you can level to 19 like nothing, but I have very limited playtime, and it wasn't exactly fast for me to get this far. Besides, I was so excited about becoming a Knight!

I understand the excitation. But really, if you don't mind playing a game collapsing because of lack of success, go Vanguard.
Leveling to 19 is not the quarter of the half of a tiny piece of the beginning of the sole of the shoe you'll need to climb the mountain of XP.
And there's a lot of games beside MMORPG for people who can't play a lot. Most of MMORPGs, in their particular stupidity, are meant to be played alot.
congrats on being non-chaotic again! as far as the sin eater quest goes, you should also know that it takes on the level of your character at the time the quest is completed. make sure that once you have the quest done that you level it before you level yourself (it really doesn't take too long to level a sin eater - it's nowhere near the amount of experience that you need to level yourself!). also, once you turn it back in to have your pk's removed, it will give you the option to continue with the quest (which will put the sin eater back in your inventory at your current level); if you choose not to continue the quest at that time, it will put the manacles back in your inventory, but rather than being soul-bound they are now transferrable. you can then store it in the warehouse, and the next time you find yourself with a massive pk count, you can pull them out, go back to the black judge, and you won't have to redo the quest. :)

i'm happy to see that your server came out to lend you a hand, and good luck with the leveling! :)

Maybe it hasn't happened to you,but it has happened to me...
Killed a bot in an area, and although most of the rest either logged as soon as I was near them or kept doing what they did,
there was one who came after me...
And when I say it came after me,I mean it really came after me...
1st time I saw that happening was in SoDA...it was 2 bots in 2 different rooms...I killed the first and it said something like "responce _823"...
Probably its owner had put on auto-responce and forgot to type in something like "why did u kill me?" so I got the programms auto responce...lol
The other toon then shows up and starts hunting me...then,I had some good fun training them,as the 1st one got back to the same room, and started killing mobs as soon as it got there...you should have seen how fun it was to train 1 and have the other follow...then try to help the other bot,and both die on mobs...
The latest was on TI,on the golem hills...some dwarves in D grade were spoiling and then 2-3 hitting the golems...as soon as I went red on 1 (I was trying to give some hunting grounds to a low level clanmate who was hunting in that area),there was 1 specific dwarf who came after me...
I believe they do have the means to detect if a toon is chaotic or not...and if they do,they just set a toon up to hunt for any chaotic toon around their money making automatons...

Reality check, when did anyone find a bot that is programmed to run from town and attack reds?

some bots are programmed to auto port back to their hunting spot
other bots are programmed to attack reds on sight
have a combination of the 2 and you end up with a bot porting out and attacking you
In actuality,

The majority of bots do not operate afk anymore, but are constantly manned by a person.

Therefor, its not hard to assume he killed XyZ and a little bell rang (since it does alarm..) and ChoWangFuu came in and took control, attempting to kill poor newbie over n over again.
Just one correction: according to some forums I got into by accident (=knowing your enemy) I got a feeling it's not Cho Wang Foo but more like Dimitrij Vasiljevic Chriscenko or Achiles Popadopopulos
(names were picked up by random and it's just coincidence if some Euro or US player has this name and bots)

I just have one thing to say L2 is like the real world by it has Government, economy, businesses, organizations, friendly people, bad people, downright evil people, scammers, cheaters, carebears, wussies, crazy people... etc. etc. etc.

"Welcome to the 'World' of Lineage 2"

Except that in Lineage you have zero recourse against city-bound scammers. You have no way to kill an A-grade Redtard griefer around Dion armed with BSOEs or Forcelog capability, even with an entire party of C-graders. (Unless you sit an A-grader near by and camp.) You have little chance of affecting the economy when some ratty clan maxes the taxes in Giran (particularly if one of your server's monopoly allies). Etc.

There are in-game systems that protect rotten people who in the real world are vulnerable to retribution. The sad reality is in L2 there are loopholes or ambivalence of the GMs behind which these people are protected.

So the best recourse is to learn to deal with it. Don't be an idiot and get scammed. Avoid PK areas if possible. Don't let a Redtard ruin your game, play it the way you want and don't give them the satisfaction of annoying you. Move on. There are many rewarding things to experience once you realize the rotten people are just scum and you can avoid them.

(We have many amateur psychologists I'm sure willing to debate the psyche behind Redtards and Scammers enacting power fantasies and such. But I'll let other threads delve into that.)
Wincy,
killing bots is pointless. killing ppl who have no idea what you are saying is also pointless. and no, there is not a flag penalty for killing reds. you only loose items after 5 pks so you killed him 6 times? or was it some other people that you killed?
I really appreciate those of you who offered Wincy helpful replies. Thank you. :) Let's try to keep the topic on track, and keep it from turning into a compare-and-contrast L2 to WoW, or flame thread.

Thanks all!
no 'fense Alyra, but I think you're 5 pages of posts too late for that. ;)

big difference between pk and pvp

Only in a carebear game. ;)

This, and your previous post, saying how WoW's PvP is "better" because there are no consequences. I have to disagree. I think you're confusing "consequence" with "restriction". They aren't the same.

WoW's PvP isn't wide-open/free-for-all. There are conditions on where and when you can attack someone, varying on what type of server you're on. Can you attack another member of your faction, without a duel challenge? No, you can't. Can you attack someone of the enemy faction in all cases before they've attacked or, in L2 terms, "flagged" on you? No, you can't.

In WoW, if you're in a contested area and someone from the opposing faction decides to corpse camp you 'til they're bored, or someone comes along to fight them, they can hop on their mount and flee to the safety of friendly territory, protected by guards and other players. In L2, there is no safe territory, except for designated peace zones (assuming you can safely get to one).

In WoW there are pre-determined factions; your enemy is already decided from the moment you decide to roll Alliance or Horde. Wandering in friendly territories guarantees your safety, unless you're flagged, which you can choose not to do. In L2, there are no pre-determined friends or foes; your allies or enemies can change from one moment to the next and, again, there are very few places you are safe. There is no Stormwind or Ogrimmar to retreat to the safety of.

Safe areas notwithstanding, there are no real "restrictions" in PvP in L2. There are, however, consequences. And there's a difference.

Why does the Karma system exist? To make people think twice before ganking people. To implement some system of justice in-game. To give people who want to be "the villain" an ability to do so (being red is preferable to some people I've met). And, at the end of the day, it's to dissuade would-be career lowbie gankers from doing so, because, believe it or not, enjoying a PvP game doesn't require you being a willing victim to someone 20+ levels higher than you, who decides to make you their form of entertainment. Though they used to be much more liberal and more hands-off when it came to PvP, even NCSoft, it seems, has seen how badly abused a more open system can be, particularly for new players.

In short... You can freely attack anyone, any time, almost anywhere in L2 - just be prepared for the possible consequences. In WoW, where and under what conditions you can attack someone are pre-determined.

I would not say WoW is a more "open PvP" game than L2. Not by a long-shot.
and the graphics sucked in WoW too. lol

also 10k karma isnt really that much. get a lowwer lvl toon to kill you , more karma is dissolved that way.

There is a point to killing bots.
I killed several in Ivory Tower crater, as did some other players, and we then carried on hunting the respective mob for our quests, class changes and spoil need.
I made many petitions about the bot trains in there. I know GMs and NCSoft go for detailed info and the bigger picture but, as players, we want the bots removed from game when we are playing in an area. Bots are so ****ed obvious and annoying, we just want them gone.
Some bots around Dion KS, so I'm not surprised if Wincy got attacked after killing a bot or two, especially if the bot handler was actually online at the time.
No one should have to suffer bots. They are the bain of this game. If I can I'll kill any near me. Scum is scum and needs to be removed from our game.
killin bots is like throwing Br'er Rabbit to the briarpatch

edit: I meant PKilling
