I'd like to use the summons, even if it's slower. Do you have any recommendations?
yeah i am with you on that but logic is logic
i've spent somewhere in the region of 170 lvls throwing fireballs at mobs so when i made a summoner i was kinda hoping i could just run around and hit stuff for a change, fact is though at the early 40's you gain 10x the xp from nukeing and by the time you are 54 it drops to a pathetic 3x xp
i tested it with and without a recharger so the logic is solid
if you do choose to melee i would suggest PL set +4 str and a bezerker with focus in a herb drop area
you can try doing catas or EV (at higher lvl) but you will spend so much time healing it really isnt worth the effort
If you exp with your 30% pet you can solo fine, granted its not exactly progression considering the cost... but you exp just fine. A nice advantage is you will be able to hit up spots long enough to collect craftable mats and make up for the crystal costs. This really is the best advantage of a Summoner being able to basically make its own pick up group and solo stuff. As far as grinding with the 30% exp pet, take for example forsaken plains, I was able to get the mats to craft a delb and collected a few sell-able B grade recipes like BO rings which are an easy 150k on teh market. (i play a warlock, other summoners slightly different (Lelf more of a nuker, Delf more of a tank).
If you are grinding for adena use ur 90% pet.
If you are exping in a group use ur 10% pet until you get your group pet (lvl 56) then use ur 5% pet in parties.
hi, I went the C Grade way with an acumen homunculus and Karmian set. As summon I used the Merrow and just used to heal/buff it.
from 40-45 I used to test areas, with early levels the lizardmen near Oren had been nice, then with level 45 go to Pavel Ruins :-)
I started my warlock sub going the nuker route in Demon with an Ecliptic Axe / Magic Power. I hate playing nukers, so at about 42, I swapped to Karmian robes, and traded the axe for a crystal dagger at the Blacksmith. Without even having a SA on the dagger, I got to 52 in like a week (The dagger was +6). Karmian robes have a pdef bouns, as well as cast speed. At 52, I changed to Avadon robes, (again, pdef bonus) and a +6 Kris/Focus I borrowed from a family member. All told, it took me less than 2 weeks to get to 56 for Queen cat and Summon Friend. That isn't the fastest way to get there, but it was fast enough for me, and VASTLY more fun than nuking, imo. At 61, I now wear DC robes, and carry a soul sep / guidance. I still carry a Homon / Acumen, in case I need acumen to heal the pet, or summon friend. And, I carry about 300 bspsc for that.
Also of note, I had a 59 SE buffer during that time, which helps a LOT.
I know that ES plays a bit differently than WK, but hope this helps.

I use Kai (10% summon) unless I'm in a large enough group for the Queen to be a benefit. I honestly have not even spent a single SP on Kat (MP Regen) or Mew (PvP summon). As I said, I have a 59 SE that can recharge me, and I hardly pvp on my sub. In the duels I've done, Kai hits hard enough to get people's attention, though. ^^ My Kai is currently 62, and has better patk than my wife's 72 BD, with +9 kesh*kesh, and more HP than her in Majestic Heavy armor, when both have the same buffs. His pdef isn't that great, but I heal him well, so it isn't usually an issue. The two of us easily hold a large room in the front of Martyr's. (Actually, we did that while I was still in B grade.) In A grade, at 61, I can solo on the antelopes at the beginning of WoA, and they are pink to me. I've also killed a few of the bugs in the Swamp of Screams, and some of the mobs in Blazing Swamp, which are red. Those are a bit slower to kill, though. Again, hope this is helpful.
