I'm just curious what are the reasons to roll a PS instead of a SH?
From my understanding SH can solo okay, are fairly cheap and level pretty fast. A PS is not really gear dependent, needs crystals and beast shots etc. With the 30 or 10% xp reduction and extra cost I don't see the benefit.
Then there's the whole PVP aspect. SH > PS from what I hear.
Though, I do hear that there are less parties for SHs then PSs with their party summon. Then there's the whole WK > PS >< Can't win I guess.
If you enjoy playing the PS for being a PS, roll a PS.
If you however are looking for a kickass pve and pvp class, roll a SH.
Dont take me wrong though, PS are "good" for solo and grouping. Though nothing can compare to a solo nuker xp, especially SH for b2m and high dmg at their nukes.
I personally love the thought of summoning demons... XD
However, PS is not so a gimp a class as many would have you believe. They can level very fast as well if they have an SE to give soulless VR (which I do). The XP sink due to the summon is hardly noticeable because you basically get a party member that only takes 10% XP whenever you want... The Summoner him/herself can do good damage with a dagger or duels (Delf Patk FTW!!) The cubics are also both great, one does debuffs like wind shackle, hex, power break, the other cubic stuns >:D
Also, the PS is probably the most versitile class in the entire game. In CT1 nightshade will be a solid tanking summon with the P/M Def boost. This guy is also an insane healer. If you know how to play the class right you can spam heals indefinatly w/o taking MP breaks or getting recharged. His heals are better than an SE's, maybe even an EE (though the Bish still owns him XD). Nightshade also has single and mass hate that also lowers target's M/Pdef.... this is simply evil and I love it. :)
Soulless has great Patk and plays like any other melee DD class, his DD skills should not be underestimated... always having haste lvl 2 and might lvl 3 and a Patk well above any fighter with non-OEd weap, he can basically kick butt. (But if someone/something hits back hard, he is a pansy... he is all offense).
Shadow I personally think is gimp and shillouette has a good balence of Patk and Def (as far as summons go >_>) and she can nuke a little with decent damage.
So basically you have a class that can debuff (single and mass)/heal/tank/melee DD/nuke... No other class can pull this off, and the PS can do all fairly well, while a master at none (except maybe healing, we own at that hardcore), the PS is far from being novice at any.
And there you have it. So reroll a PS noob. :)
-P.S. (pun intended ^^) The summoner in light armor with transfer pain, pots and battle heal is not an easy kill either... especially not when nightshade is out and ready to heal his master with his awsome heals... kk I am done now.
I've got a Dark Wizard right now that is going PS. To me, I just never really enjoyed the whole ranged DPS playstyle so getting from 1-40 will probably be the hardest part. Two-shotting mobs is cool and it's awesome exp but I would much rather let my summon do the work and just support it/add some additional damage.
The idea of PVP'ing with him scares me though. Then again, I've never been huge on PVP anyways. The best thing that I have seen summoners add in group PVP is cubics. Folks love cubics during sieges. SH's in PVP? Sweet Jesus.
PS is good in PvP too, we do a lot of damage very quickly in close combat. A smart PS will spam debuff slow and discord to makes cubics hit. The Slow usually lands pretty quickly and allows you to close in on even those annoying kiters. Don't write-off summoners in PvP until you have actually faught one. Having to deal with summoner and summon at the same time is a nightmare and most people freak, frist trying to kill the summon, then giving up and going for summoner, then stopping and going for summon again. There is no set rule to taking down a summoner either, sometimes it is best to go for summon, sometimes summoner... it just adds to the confusion. XD
The major thing about PvPing as a summoner is your micromanagment. You have to control yourself AND your summon at the same time and it does take some practice to master. Additionally, you have 3 (4 if you count shadow, but I don't) summons that you need to learn to use that all have VERY different play styles. One is a tank/healer one is a major melee DD, the last is a nuker that you only use in PvP.
It takes practice, watching your health bars and the health bars of your party if you are being a party healer is especially challenging. XD
Summoners are dealy in PvP, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you set yourself up right, you can resummon your demons in a split second (weap with acumen SA, bsps, acumen pots, WIT tats) So when your opponent finally takes down yer demon, you just pop another into existance, buff it as it starts attacking againa dn you are good to go.
Only class you gotta watch out for are SH and sps (I can usually midgitate dmg of sorc and a necro with summon out... betray and necro = dead) and destros and high lvl archers.
I have a DE Wizard that is currently going SH, but I was just curious to make sure that was the right path. In other games I liked playing summoner classes. However, testing with shadow it feels so slow. Select mod, send in shadow, then follow to help (if melee). SH is just select and fire away. How do you actually XP as fast as an SH? Doesn't seem plausible unless you're AOEing. Let alone the 10-30% xp drain.
Is LA pretty much a must? Especially if you plan to melee with the summon? I already have a decent selection robes up to B (Ava).
only 1 reason to choose ps over sh and that is you are a rpg person madly in love with a class out of its coolness factor instead of its power.
with the same 2nd account support class (i.e. an se)
the sh will lvl faster in pvp and will fight better in pvp
i completely disagee with Vhaidren btw regarding ps beeing any good in pvp.
as soon as you reach a certain lvl, id say 70+ (im 79 with the interlude summon) every decent meele or ranged dd will 3shot your summon and kill you afterwards. there is hardly any class i would say you can win 1vs1 where both are beeing buffed and able to spam shots.
swiching from robes to light armor will do you no good since that way you heal and summon even slower.
as stated by me many times bevore, the basic flaw is that there was 0 improvements on the summons stats from c1 while everyone else got a cp bar, cp pots, health pots, elexirs, overentchants for weapon and armor, sa for weapons, extra damage on s grade weapons, boss jewelery and augments for weapons. the damage output of the regular player went up, up, that was countered by the developers by allowing cp pot spamming but sadly they forgot that a summon has no invi to place cp pots into.
The PS is fine at PvP... sure the nukers and archers can do major damage fast, but every melee class has trouble NOT being 2/3-shotted by the high damage ranged classes. However, there are plenty of classes that are not high damage ranged... (glads being a hybrid and usually a difficult match) such as BD, sws, tanks, daggers, healers, and the like that are easy prey for a summoner. If you cannot demolish these classes then something is wrong... and light armor does not make you cast slower... the light armor passive skill bring it up to nearly the same casting speed as robes, and every good PS has acumen weap, magic haste pots, WIT tats... takes only a second or two to resummon.
They can level very fast as well if they have an SE to give soulless VR (which I do).
Ehm.. that doesnt say "as fast as a sh" it only says fast... ^^
Big big difference :P
PS can not, ever, lvl as fast as a SH.
And as craylon said, they are not good in pvp. Ive said that a couple of times myself, mr V here are just a bit stubborn :)
And btw V, you wouldnt stand a chance against a healer, he would erase your summon and be done with it quite fast :P
And daggers would [censored] you so easy.
I am very stubbron and refuse to listen to summoner critisim, if you don't know this about me by now, well... can;t help you.
However, on a serious note I personally don't have a problem with buffers and healers. Erase does not land often on me, I have tested in with my sister's buffer (same lvl as me) and it hit 1 out of every 10-13 tries with bsps. And, as mentioned over and over again, it doesn't take me any time at all to resummon. I can get shilouette right back out and attack the buffer again. It is not like I need to fear the big bad buffer while I am resummoning... what is it gonna do? wack me with it's scary staff? :P

No, but it might whip out a FB with Focus.
I'm getting the impression that you don't do a lot of high-level PvP with top buffs, because the other posters are generally correct in their assessment of PS capabilities in that department. Despite their high p.atk, most DD summons don't pose nearly the threat that other kinds of DDs do (slow attack speed and negligible crit rate don't help). The exception to this is the Necro's Cursed Man, which actually achieves a decent crit rate with buffs and can be surprisingly dangerous if not killed or disabled quickly. Generally speaking, your best advantage as a summoner trying to DD with a pet in PvP is that your pet might be overlooked in favor of other targets, giving it the chance to beat on a robe user and maybe crit a couple times.
Summons take (read as "suffer," not "withstand") huge damage in high-level buffed PvP due to their awful defensive stats. A summoner set for max cast speed (let's say DC robes and +5 WIT +acumen SA weapon with Acu 3 and Zerk 2) will have difficulty just keeping a targeted pet alive, much less the summoner. Light armor will obviously decrease the physical damage you take, but your pet heals will be substantially slower, so that's the trade-off.
Summoning a new pet during PvP? If we're talking PvP with buffs at high levels where you're actually taking damage, this isn't going to happen often, and even if you do get a new pet up, it won't have any decent buffs. This only works when you aren't being targeted or else are being hit with weak/slow DPS.
While I am rather unimpressed with PS DD summons, I have to say that the Nightshade is an oft-overlooked gem of a summon. It can be useful for surprise factor in PvP because most players have no idea what it is or what it can do. The heals are indeed good, though not as powerful or versatile as an EE or Bishop, but there's also something to be said for a summonable, expendable healer with huge HP that can hate/debuff targets. I'm very much looking forward to the CT1 Nightshade boost.

Daggers are not a easy prey for summon class
it's Simple Hit UE kill Summoner in 3 skills or lesss (really works if you have a MM dagger like me) then use switch on summons and kill it the dead summoner can't retarget you for the summon to even attack you. ;)
I guess it depends on how well the dagger plays it's class and how well the Phantom summoner play's their class. Strong Over-Powered classes are no excuse for a lack of common sense or PvP experience.
I have killed multiple daggers by stunning them and then beating the crap out of them with my summon, not turning my back on them, and spamming debuffs and heals while summon does it's job.
Just because you are a summoner does not = instant lose against any class you come up against... goodness, use strategy, have a good PvP partner or two and work togeather. Summoner's are not the useless crap you people make them out to be. Yes I play my PS more out of the Role Playing factor, but I get p-lenty of kills in PvP, and have killed my share of archers and nukers, also been killed by plenty of archers and nukers.
The class may not be as geared towards PvP as others, but that does not mean insta-lose, go home and cry noob... Strategy, planning, experience, class, gear, and allies ultimatly decides the victor. It is not just class, but a combination of all.
Your 100% right but I did say I have a MM dagger so it's easy win for me not saying every dagger can do it but MM is just a little extra help what I did still can be done it;'s just like you said it's if you know how play your class and if your geared right. even with the way I'm geared i still can't beat a TH unless I get lucky but then I'm still set up really for PVE I won't go full PVP till I reach lvl cap.
Reading other posts I've seen people mention that they use a OOP buffer with their summoner. Is this really needed? Do they level so slow that people need a buff-pet. Is the souless so impossible to use without VR.
If I had a PS I would probably use nothing but Souless (doesn't that mana drain sound get annoying?). Though, it sounds like a real pain to deal with.
Do you usually melee in robes or only in LA if you plan to melee?
I might start another toon on the side to try out a summoner, but I'm still not decided on which.
Warlock seems the most balanced but has a boring party pet (boring for the summoner)
Phantom Summoner seem a little annoying with Souless, but has a great party summon.
Elemental Summoner I don't now much about. I should read up on that one.
The mana drain sound gets annoying.. :P But its more annoying with the mp drain itself.
I melee in robes, since when I hunt with soulless I hunt field areas, hp herbs are good enough to recover the lost health for the first 1-2 swings until soulless takes agro away from me.
Come on... Demons, cats or unicorns.. oO Demons for sure.
Summoners are actually one of the fastest lvling classes after a nuker, as long as you melee along with your summon. Grinding is probably the one thing summoners really excell at over most other classes. They can be totally self dependent, they are a buffer, healer, DD all in one.
No, you do not need an SE to grind effiecently with soulless, you can do without one in a place where herbs drop. But VR is a HUGE advantage for a summoner and there just isn't a reason to pass it up if you have the opportunity to use it. This goes for all summoners because summons in general have High patk and weak Pdef. So VR makes good use of the atk to cover the Pdef.
But no, an SE certianly isn't required. Every class lvls faster with an OOP buffers, summoners are no exception.
I think as a Summoner, I'd take a Warcrier over an SE. Haste makes up for the lack of Wind Walk, and is doubly helpful. Attack speed for the servitor and Attack speed for you to activate you cubics while Meleeing. Warcrier also gets other useful buffs like Magic Barrier and Greater Might/Shield. Only difference is that you have to level them up further.
Summoner should not really require many recharges. There isn't much to spend MP on. Well, Wind Shackle... But in PvE (and with WC Reflect Damage up)?

The more and more I level my third caster I'm actually really itching for something more interesting then the one-button-wonder. I've been taking Shadow out just for kicks, but man he sucks right now (lvl3) on lvl35 mobs.
My biggest fear about PS over the other summoners is the Souless mp drain. The others don't have that handicap, and I don't know why Souless does. Doesn't seem like he's the best of the three 10% summons. But if you say it's not that big a deal then I guess I have nothing to fear. Though I wish I could turn off the drain sounds. "Ah... Ah... Ah... Ah..." ><
Right now I'm bouncing between going PS with my current DE or start a human to go Warlock. I'm pretty close to 40 though. : /

As a summoner, you get haste lvl 2 buff for your pet and you can buy haste lvl 2 pots for yourself... but either warcryer or SE works fine, VR is the important thing, the only buff a PS really needs. Wind walk is also vital for PvP, you must be able to chase town or atleast keep-up with your prey. I personally prefer SE, but either is fine I spose.
@ topic starter person: You really can't judge the summoner class until you hit 52 and have haste lvl 2 for your summon, after that you will own those 2x and 3x mobs hardcore. I will also tell you up-front that lvl 40-44 is a drag, because at 44 you atleast get haste lvl 1 for the summon, which is a HUGE help. Just play w/e ever class yer gonna have the most fun with, be it SH, warlock, or PS. The game gets stale fast, atleast it does for me, if I am not playing a fun and dynamic class. I know what you mean by the one-button wonder. I hate leveling nukers, there is nothing to do but spam your main nuke. A summoner will keep you on your toes between managing yourself and cubics, then taking care of your summon via heals and buffs, and also managing your MP and debuffs.
and gives u a unbuffed summon that goes down even faster then the 1 u couldnt keep alive cause your oponent outdamged u.
anyway im not here to diss the ps class
in fact im madly in love with its just that my personal gaming style would lean more towards an attack mage (summon stuff fast and in masses against the enemy) then to be buffer for the summon or support in pvp (with the nightshade).
both major changes in ct1 (more def for nightshade and less/no xp loss) go in a direction where i never saw the ps in the 1st place.
xping with the % loss is/was bearable for me (im close to lvl 80 now^^) yet the vision i have of the ps class in pvp doesnt improve.
on a side note: i saw fortresses give totems that grants the wearer a bit protection from critical damage, also s grade armors can be improved against elemental attacks.
this is another fine example where the devs fix a problem (insane high damage from nukers/ archers) but dont take into considderation that this doesnt help the summons.
ah and the sin eater doesnt work at all ^^
u need to ask your party to let u xp with a sineater instead of a summon. in some cases that works if u offer them baby heals from the lvl 35? skillset

Yeah, can't tell you how much this ****** me off. I personally enjoy PKing people, but w/o the option of sin eater it isn't worth the time. I wish we could have a pet AND a servitor out at the same time. The new CT1 pets can be out with a summon though, that is pretty sweet.

This is the thing, it's hard to know which will be fun without actually playing it. Since the one summon you will use the most is not available to you. I think it's pretty easy to assume how Kai will play but Souless has a lot of "I don't knows" with it. Unfortunately I didn't make a summoner on the PTS so that chance it gone (unless they boost me to sub level).
Since my DE is so close to 40 I keep thinking that I'll just go PS. But with all the negatives I hear about PS all the time I wonder why anyone plays it and all don't just pick the Warlock. IE the "perfect summoner" class.
I was thinking if I got +men tats would that help at all with the mana drain? Then at the higher armor grade go for MP regen sets like Maj/Tal etc.
+MEN is a joke, don't bother unless you want it for a little more mdef as well (if any class can afford to +MEN, summoners can, at least outside of Oly). +MP regen boosts from gear are similarly negligible. You'd need to stack all of that just to get a slightly noticeable improvement.
Don't be too scared of the Soulless' MP drain; it's not crippling, just annoying. Most places you would want to solo drop herbs, anyway. If you have a character cast VR on your Soulless, then you don't even need to worry much about herb drops.
I certainly wouldn't call leveling as a PS "fast," but if inexorable solo progress appeals to you, you might like it. In most situations the only time you will need to stop XPing is to restock your supplies, and unlike most other characters, you can XP without external buffs (though having them does expand your options and improve leveling, of course).
I chose to sub a PS for a few specific reasons:
1. Nightshade -- a pet with unique functionality, very fun to play in party. The other summoner party pets are primarily buffbots, though you might hit the cure button once every 10 min to make it look like you're paying attention. Warlocks level the fastest because physical damage parties love the cat buff, but I'd be horribly bored with that. One of my friends who subbed a Warlock says she wished she'd never trained that stupid Feline Queen :P
2. Cubics -- Mass Phantom is arguably the very best party cubic, and I just like watching the Spark Cubic go off.
3. Demons -- I have nothing against unicorns, but the only cat I like is the old-school Kat the Cat just for comic value. Demons >>> Kitties.
As a Bishop in duels, the way I beat summoners is to keep the pet asleep, and kill the summoner. (It's rude to outright erase in a duel.) Once I trance the pet, I start mana burning the summoner. Once his mp is gone, I whip out the dagger for an old fashioned beat down. In a melee fight, where the summon is a non-factor, a summoner will never beat me. I heal for more than he can hope to hit me for, ever. Even if he has TP on, it doesn't really matter...Just takes a bit longer. And, once his mp is gone, there are no new pets coming, no matter how fast he casts. If I were a buffer, I'd keep the pet rooted, same effect.
Sounds like a pretty sound strategy actually, but don't forget those two cubics, the stunner may prove a hindrence, and the phantom cubic will destroy your attacking abilities as a buffer/healer where you have little to begin with.
1 wack and the summon is awake again...
Outside of olympiad, I feel pretty secure in the fact I will rarely be forced into a situation where I have to 1v1 a bish...

LOL. True, most of us don't go around looking for peeps to pick on. I think, however, the WK has the best cubic for pvp though. I got my binding cubic to land, and it was a good "I win" button.
1 wack and the summon is awake again...
True, but Trance has like a 1/2 second cast speed, and high land rate, and costs 58 mp. In Maj robes, with my Mana Up weapon, I have 4100 + mp unbuffed. So, eventually, You'll get tired of waking it up. Also, if you are wacking your summon, you aren't wacking me. And, every time you wake your summon, your mp takes a huge hit. Then, your summon goes back to sleep, and we repeat.
I agree, it's funny watching people try to figure out how to fight a summoner. It's hillarious when they realize they're being owned by a Bishop. ^^

u don't know anything about transfer pain huh. when its active when ever we take damage the summon will wake up, haven't tested this with mana burn but more then likely will have the same effect. so no point waking the summon, we can keep attacking u while u waste time trying to burn through the mp.
i run around with really good m.def and i got alot more mp then a fighter class so u will have to burn half ur mp to get all mine.
go and see l2pets.com
there you can find all you need for summoners and their pets :)
every summoner can say you that is realy expensive to play on but is much interesting than the other classes ( you have to push not only F1 and F2 :) ) also as PS you can play as healer, as tank, as DD or just to stay in party and talk with friends till the rest ppl gain your XP :)
Cats looks so stupid lol, but here is one of the great buffs in game.
If you want when ppl see you to say " AWWWW LOOK HOW SWEET IS SHE" then ES is your summoner with all her shugarbeybs ;)
Good Luck
Summoners are not expencive to lvl, ppl need to drop this misconception. Try soloing a dagger, where crits from front of the mob are few and far between, now thats expencive.
Everyone has to do the "money grind" every once in a while, and it dont get more easy than summoning a 1 hour pet for 600a and mowing down mobs lol.
And its not like u always have to use cubics either. Summoners are cheap...
Daggers cost alot because its less damages per swings (unless you critical alot, so it depends) So you need more shots to make the same damage.
But the reason summoners are so cheap is because most if what you are spending is on Beast shots. You use such a low amount of Crystals unless you use cubics, which you dont really need (id used 1 or both, but thats just me). And you dont have to assist summon in damage, so you dont even really need a super great weapon. Just need to heal it, and debuff some since the summons are very strong alone.
I've actually done the comparison. Take my buddy's 78 PW and compare it with my PS, you'll find that while, given full buffs, he levels faster he is far from cheaper. When he goes on a leveling kick (ie his GF is out of town) he can blow through over 9k SS in a couple hours. Now lets assume he wants a focus weapon so we need to do A grade, A shots are about 125-150 on most servers iirc so 520k if we say about 4k shots per hour at 130 each. This estimate is a bit high because i don't have exact values just generals but it's probably accurate to within 50k.
Now for a summoner 10k in about an hour at 27 each, that's 270k plus crystals. Lets assume i'm hunting somewhere where i need shadow because it's easier to calculate, soulless is a bit more costly not nothing amazing. lets also assume i use full cubics this uses about 206 D crystals per hour assuming shadow is in combat 100% of the time which isn't a valid assumption but close enough for government work. D crystals should be bought for about 500, though 600 is what suckers pay so lets use that cost 123.6 k. Alright lets see how they compare
393.6k for the summoner and 520k for Plainswalker. Now this doens't count my cost for running PoW or CoV but they aren't needed if we have the same buffs it'll likely be provided by the buffer rather than me. That would pull up the summoner shot cost by 20% wo we're running a bit over 400k per hour, even taking into consideration out error bars on the plainswalker the summoner is still at least 80k cheaper per hour. Now imagine on a really shot heavy class like a tyrant.
Summoners aren't expensive, if yours is stop sucking at it.
wow dude you gusy pay 125-150a per A-ss on your server. what a jacked up econ you have.
on bartz its 90-105a, with 93-95 being the major average for A-ss.
C crys range from 2,800a-3,200a. With 3,200 being the average, and 2,900 being the most common buy price.
You should be able to get a very steady flow of D crys by blowing up striped linen shirts trying to get +6. I know I've done over 1,100 D crys alone just by blowing up D/g T-shirts (about 3mil in EA/d, and T-shirts, still only got one to +5).
I'm not keen on C crys for low cost.
In fact I'm making a PS my self, I'm 1 lvl, 15% and 1 class change from getting my DW to a PS (ATM that will change soon).
PS is a pretty decent class, the summons hit hard, the cubics are decimating VS melee targets, summon friend, are wanted for any Archer party, or tank party. And they are very few in all, so if you wanted to contest for hero spot you'd have a chance.
Part of my reason for doing this class instead of SH, I'm sick of the nuke style, even in D grade it got old very fast. Summon friend; being able to get my buffers where I need them is very important! something different; I like a change of pace.
get a dagger with focus, useskills, usually if i'm buffed I can take down a room in the catas in a few min as I either take about 13-3 hits to take down one mob as I crit alot and crit hard, but now that's changing as I have a dagger with not focus...but something else... something not seen for years... something so vile and dangerous, they had to be locked away, so...
I don't crit as much but that's the glory of buffers ^^
having to get the 3 cards then port here there and every where was a pain. I got lucky and got lvl 1 card two times in a row, but you have to run it 3 times.
but Nukes fail so **** much now its not even funny. I'm glad I went PS just for that reason alone. no joke nukes failing is no fun!!

Just delete the card you get and retalk to the NPC to give you a new one if you don't like the one you got...
I didn't start using ports regularly till lvl 60 or so. And we didn't used to get dimension diamonds. You had to pay for the costs of your class change all by yourself.

I've heard of the horrors of Pre-GK times... *shudders* Oh teh horror!
Summoners aren't expensive, if yours is stop sucking at it
Leveling a summoner for an hour: 400k
Watching how a Summoner is actually cheaper than most classes: 100k
Watching Physics display this with so much math it makes my head hurt: Priceless :D
we always had GK's, but back in prelude, well i was lvl 14 or so before i could afford to use one. Ported all the way to the altar of rites, because it was so far away.

well I'm not doing cata's atm.
I know as I progress in lvls I'll have a tough time making money while grinding. so while my PS is still young I'm nuking on field type mobs for spell books. I figure I can self sustain the class by farming books till mid 40's. then start farming 60% rec's later on.
once thats no good. switch to farming books again in a higher lvl spot. only got to get the PS to 56...so its no big deal...its a side project to my main!

I said that. its stated in the quest guide. maybe you should read it? :p
When my PS hit 66 I decided to try Forest of the Dead.
First I tried the lowest mobs but found stun annoying (I think most summoners hate stun...).
I then tried the mid range mobs (yellow to the summoner), they drain with additional bleed and root, no biggie since u can remove root and bleed with servitor blessing/cure, but still annoying.
So I went to what I think is the highest mobs in FotD, the vampires at the book case. Turns out that spot was the easiest of them all.
Now how many classes can do the vamp spot in FotD (spot good until 77 or so) at lvl 66 with just SE/PP buffs? I dont think an archer would be able to do it with such ease, coz of the accuracy from hunting light red mobs.
FotD has good money drops and also has 2 quests u can do which gives adena/xp and mats. I love that spot :)

If you have a VR buff pet (VR lvl 1 or 2 will do), go into the catacombs with soulless, it is the fastest leveling you can get. I have partied with a lot of experienced clannies and they are always amazed at how fast they lvl with me in the catas...
I have no solid numbers, but I have yet to find a class that lvls faster solo than a Summoner in catas using the lvl 40 pet and VR buff. (Poles used to beat us, but new patch kinda killed them)
Not necessarilly it's effects, but every 5 seconds it's the same old "Aaah! Ah! Uhh! Aaah! Ah! Uhh!" and everyone in vent asks why I'm bleeding. :p
PS: Can someone confirm this? Is it every new level of servitor you get, it takes 1% less exp from you?
Example: Level 40 Soulless = -10%. Would level 44 Soulless = -9%? Level 48 Soulless= -8%? etc. etc.
No, somewhere in the mid 60s (I think 66 or 64) Soulless and Nightshade start taking 5% instead of 10% and shadow goes down to 24%. Then around 74ish Soulless and Nightshade take 0% and shadow takes 18%.
I am too lazy to go find the exact levels, but you can easily look them up yourself in the patch notes for CT1.
Great, well I've been using Shadow since 52 at the top of EV due to his VR. (I have no external buffers).
Once I get Nightshade, should I swap to him due to his tanking abilities? Or should I continue you use Shadow? Same question goes for catas; I'm not sure which servitor to use where and until which level. Confused!
NO. he hits like a scurvy ridden kitten. You can use shadow till level 80. He's your solo pet, if you're soloing you probably want to use him. Nightshade is a healer, sure he has defense but he's a healer first and foremost. In some areas you can solo with soulless but you'll need someplace with herbs to make up for no VR and for the nasty MP drain.
His def stats are about 1k at +1 (yes i only made him +1) and he has about 8k, this is with just my buffs of course. So yeah he can tank. Think of him kinda like a pally. He even hast hate skils (his debuffs have a hate effect, fairly strong). But realistically use him as a healer for party play.
