Is mana regeneration worth learning?

Elf Classes Started Last reply 31 posts
I'm a lv32 Elven Wizard.
Soon, I'm going to be a Spellsinger :)
So far I'm loving my character.
However, mana seems to be the big problem.
As I am getting close to class transfer, I was looking up the skill lists, and saw Mana Regeneration skill.
Is it worth learning?
Or just waste of my SP?
If you are soloing then yes it is worth it.

If you 2box an SE then no its not worth the SP cost.
It's worth learning. Don't expect much, but any mp regen boost u can get is worth it.

It costs adena, but went you take into account how much adena shots cost, it ain't much.
just one word Sps is a mp [censored] so any mp regen is good. so YES its worth learning
Definitely worth learning
only gonna boost ur regen with 1-4 mana each tick(havent tested it much) but as other have stated, ANY regen is welcomed. so yeah get it
No its not worth it. Getting back only 3 more mp per tick (amounting to 450ish mp in a 20) is quite simply not worth spirit ore cost. Solo, duo, trio, 9 person party, I never use this piece of crap self buff. Considering you need to spend not only spirit ore but also a good deal of mp to cast this buff, I would highly suggest not bothering with it.
If you cant afford the cost of casting it dont bother, but if you can its more than worth it. L2 is a long grinding game, 3-4 mp per tick adds up :p

Don't play an sps if ur not prepared to dish out the adena field one ;) Its not like its a cheap class to play. Solo lvling my 60x sps is expensive. And yes the 1-4 increase per tick does add up, especially at the higher lvls (like in a-grade). Its like learning a quick mana recovery skill temporarily...and we all know those are useful ;)
Where the heck have you been? I made tons of money doing the 60-70 grind on my sps.

The 1-4 mp per tick is only worth it if you feel that paying 7200/(660-25)=11 adena per mp is a bargain. My cost/benefit analysis says it is not, and so I don't use it. And even when I did try testing it, I never noticed much of a difference in terms of how long I could go without having to rest, though I did notice a difference in how many shots and potions I could carry alongside the seeds and crops I had. The biggest and only noticeable improvement when soloing comes from the mana herbs.

Anyone who says this spell is good is playing you for a fool and is operating under the princicle that any change is a good change, regardless of how negligible a change it is. These are the same people I imagine who would be willing to pay you 25 cents for each 5.670 grams you lightened their coin jar by.

Post as vicious as always Ellisande

It isn't the best, I will admit, but if you are worrying about 7.5k/buffround after 70+, I must say you need some money advice. When I duo with an SE, I find any mp gain worth it and do see a difference. It's a personal choice, and since it helps my grind I use it :p
I really don't understand this whole "not worth the money thing". The highest level of Mana Regen only costs 15 spirit ore per use - at an average of 500a per ore that's only 7.5k .... it costs more than that just to teleport. What, do you run out to your xp spot too?

With most 70+ mobs dropping at least 1500 adena, you should easily be able to pay for the cost with just 2-4 mobs.

As Auqa Spark said, if you're worried about a paltry 7.5k, you need some help.

As a SpS/EE combo, I can definitely tell a difference when I use mana regen and when I don't. Sometimes I'll forget to use the skill and then I'll notice that I'm having a tough time keeping my mana up, at which point I realize that I don't have mana regen on. If there was no difference, I wouldn't be sitting there for several minutes going "why am I running so low on mp?" before I ever realized I forgot it.
e.e Ellisande also claims that duoing with an EE will cost her too much money ...

Because money/mob >> money/time.
Well Maline you dissapoint me again. Money/mob is the only thing that determines whether you end the day in the black or the red. You can earn a finitely infinite amount of adena per time, but you will still be losing money if you are earning negative adena/mob. A negatiove money/mob score means you are going to end the day at a loss. Duoing with an ee (and they never are willing to split the costs of bsps) always results in a negative or near zero money/mob score for the fact that they do not increase the per spell damage, so you need just as many bsps to kill a mob when duoing with an ee as you needed before the ee joined the party. I still find this to be true when duoing with an eva's saint who has PoW. The small mattack increase is negligible, and the small increase in magic crit rate is unnoticeable (maybe because I am very unlucky when it comes to getting magic crits). The reintroduction of full and half spell failures is the final nail in the coffin towards affirming you cannot make money duoing with an ee who does not split the cost of bsps.

To say that 660 mp every 20 minutes is worth 7,500 adena is a personal decision. I believe it is a needless waste if adena, as 660 mp is only 7.8 more spells per 20 minutes (for an average of hydroblast+solar flare+ice/ligh vortex). When you start needing 3+ spells per 1x h mob, that is only 1-2 more mobs you're going to kill in 20 minutes.
Money/time need not measure money drops. If you can't make money with one other person in group, as I told you back then, the EE or you have an issue.

Plus, at the level where you have vortices, can you seriously still worry about 7.5k every 20 minutes?

1. Nice way to think about things from your perspective only. As an EE, I can tell you that we do not make nearly as much money as a SpS. As a SpS, I can tell you that I make a ton more money than an EE. There are many reasons for this, if you insist, I'll detail them for you. Either way, you're actually being selfish in 2 ways (while acting as though the EE is the one being selfish): a. you want a poor EE to help you pay for shots and b. you won't party with an EE because it costs you money. Great friend you must be...

2. Have you not figured out, by now, that grinding is NOT the way we make money in this game? Grinding, most of the time, can pay for your shots, any pots that you use, etc. and leave you with some cash left over. It will not, however, buy you A-grade or S-grade or anything else.

3. 1-2 more mobs are going to drop enough money to pay for mana regeneration - thus, according to your logic, by using the spell you even out on the money side and wind up with 1-2 mobs more xp. So why not use it?

I have a question for you - do you use shots? Because the way you talk as if 7.5k is such a HUGE deal, it sounds like you shouldn't be using shots either! Or teleporters... or pots...

Sorry... another question... do you panic if you leave one pile of money on the ground? LOL I really want to know! Because personally, while I do try to pick up my drops, I always leave at least 5-10 piles of adena spread out around my hunting grounds. Sometimes I leave quite a bit more than that - and it doesn't bother me! Would you ever do that? (I'm guessing not, if you don't think 7.5k is worth 25k xp...)
Someone who is doing nothing but recharging should be splitting shot costs. Of course, an EE need not be reducing themselves to that. :p
So, the opposite is true: an EE doing nothing but recharging should be compensated for the boring gameplay.

Listof I want to play the game you are playing, where 1-2 mobs are worth 7,500 adena. At fotd and isle of prayer I've seen a demonstrated 50% drop rate for anywhere from 1500 to 3500 adena (an average of 750-1750 adena per mob). Since S bsps cost 800-1000 adena each, each mob is costing me 800-4000 adena to kill as I need 1 to 5 spells to killa single 1x hp mob depending on my luck and where I am grinding. Since I am already earning negative adena per mob, no matter how many more mobs I kill, I am never going to make enough to pay for a buff even if it cost me 1 adena, nevermind 7500!

An EE who parties with me never has to use a single shot or major heal (however I do require that an ES use PoW if they have it). All they need to use are non-bspsed regular greater heals and mana regeneration (which does not benefit from using shots). So I fail to see why it would be unfair for a class with no duoing costs to split my 800-1000 adena per spell Sbsps cost (Notice however that I never ask my duoing partner to share these costs, but that doesn't mean I don't have to pay for the Sbsps either).

To say that grinding is not how we make money, is to lie. All of my money came from grinding (well it came from the manoring I did while grinding), and I made enough adena to have full NG, D, C, +6B armor, A and S grade equipment sets. I have never practiced any of that arbitrage everyone else partakes in which causes and maintains price inflation.

Is it just me, or did you not just directly contradict yourself there? You're loosing money on every mob and can't even afford 1 adena... and yet you have made enough to buy S-grade?

I have never practiced any of that arbitrage everyone else partakes in which causes and maintains price inflation.

And that, my dear friend, is exactly why you can't even afford a measly little 7.5k.
No I am not contracting myself, simply leaving out pertinent information. Mainly that I made tons of money from manoring at VoS and then at Fotd using a som. Once I outleveled both areas and switched to S grade, I was no longer raking in the cash. But I don't need to, since I made enough in 16 levels to last me through level 80 even though I lose adena for every mob I kill.
Didn't read all the posts (yet) but it's worth it to me. I have a SE and if I forget to put mana regen on I totally notice the difference.
How?
When you have enough SP, yes. Until then, your skill points should be used elsewhere. If it's anything like when I was that level, you already barely have enough for main skills.
Simple .. Learn the skill .. test it for yourself .. if u think the pro's outweigh the cons and feel good about it, then use it. Nonstop xp is best when shared with an active SE or EE in party that can pick up mana pots and regen you. Rarely do I have to stop except for buffs when I do this and the company is nice too. Boxing an SE out of party is okay but I find my xp goes up faster with an active one. Spellsingers are fastcasters for a reason .... GO GO GO GO GO .. let the active Regener pick up all drops and share xp and money. Works for me.
Well if I'm hunting in an area and I notice I'm having a hard time keeping my MP at the levels I normally like to keep it at, when I wasn't previously having a problem... it's always when I forget to put mana regen on.

It's especially noticeable in places were mp herbs do not drop. (spiteful soul groups, doom knights, etc)
mana regen is worth learning, it costs the equiv of like 1 monster drop to run it for 20mins.. the extra MP is noticeable and helps alot in all areas.

end of
Any increase in mp regen is good, and as to saving 7.5k adena in ct1 when many have full epic jewels... no comment.

+1

This is exactly what I experience. This is why I believe mana regen does work. Because I notice that I'm having trouble keeping my mp up first, then I realize that I've forgotten mana regen.

Anyone who says this spell is good is playing you for a fool

Matter of opinion. Anyone that solos a sps is a fool imo.
nothignn wrong with the spell, and its each to his own.

Personally, i dont solo my SPS, use him solely for raids at the moment.

mana regen is worth learning since it helps you regen mp.

downside - 7.5ka big woop. Thats one mobs worth of coin at the level you learn it.
