Class change coming O.o AW or PR? Your thoughts?

Dark Elf Classes Started Last reply 17 posts
I was just hoping to get some input from you guys on what class to choose. I have been leaning towards AW because I have alot of fun playing it (so I should probably go AW, right?) But I have read posts about AW not being to solo effeciently at later levels and I am more of a solo grinder/guild chat kind of player... I guess I could make a SE to buff, but it's hard to lvl a char that I'm not even into... same goes for making a dwarf.. anyway

I don't do much pvp now, but it's what I'm looking for at higher lvls though. I've heard it said that rangers are just the "uber one shot pwnzors" and while that could be fun, I'm not so into owning everyone in sight so much as skill and challenge.

Was wondering too, for AW, at later levels does the unlock skill and key of a thief ever bring in any good items? I heard chests will drop WE/AE scrolls, but its rare. And I figure maybe the drop rate of an item from a chest is just like an item from a monster, but i cant find the info anywhere.

I've been using the dagger and it's pretty exciting, but I dunno, its a hard choice to make... the bow is alot of fun too hehe. Any input or opinions on each class would be appreciated. thanks
I dunno about either class you wanna progress into, but as far as chests go I get a fair amount of scrolls from them...just this morning in DV I got an EW-C. They are few and far between, but when ya open them up and see that **** scroll sitting on the ground (adena too!) you just get all warm and fuzzy! At least, I do. :p
Well I'm in the same boat. From the information I have gathered you can solo with either to about 60. Then the mobs become harder with status effects.

The AW is very chance based. I have a 55 AW on the PTS and it's main attack skills are really hit or miss. But it is very fun.

The PR should have a better time soloing. Their big problem is that most don't start to use the bow until 52. That's because earlier bows cost 10x shots per hit. Since DEs don't have the best carrying capacity you'd be going to town a lot. Also they don't tend to use any actual skills. Since they need MP to shoot most just auto-shoot and nothing else. So some say they are kinda boring.

Both classes need buffs to pwn. Without buffs they are pretty mediocre. But that's how this game is anyway.

you sound like a AW so I say go AW and don't look back....later you can sub a HE. :D
AWs are cool, go AW :) hehe, you can always equip a bow and grind with that when you get bored of melee dagger. Works almost as good as a PR.
Though the uniqueness of being a dark elf PR/AW is starting to fade away, more and more people roll or have a PR/AW toon or sub. Just a FYI.
Another FYI, HE/TH owns AW/PR. By far.. :/ Poor AWs dont get fake death either, which is a huge minus!!!!

Thats some opinions on it :)

AW/PR ownz TH/HE
TH > AW in every aspect until lvl 78 and then at 79 it reverts back to TH > AW.

PR > HE is circumstantial based on boss jewellery.

TH > AW in every aspect until lvl 78 and then at 79 it reverts back to TH > AW.

wat.

TH > AW in every aspect until lvl 78 and then at 79 it reverts back to TH > AW.

wat.

I'll end you!

TH > AW in every aspect until lvl 78 and then at 79 it reverts back to TH > AW.

PR > HE is circumstantial based on boss jewellery.

So AW only Better then TH for 1 long lvl :)
Thanks for all the input. I was thinking about it, and when i hit the end game (sieges, wars etc.) I don't want to be a glass cannon or w/e as an AW. Not that I want to own everyone, but I don't want people to see me and think "easy kill" or something. So what I think I'll do is go PR, but sub a TH so i get the fake death, am still a d.elf (just like them more than humans) and play the same styles I was into from the beginning.
Sounds like a solid plan :)

And people dont think "Oh a AW, easy kill!" They think, "ah crap, gotta kill that ****** fast or he will kill me!" though you do get killed quite easily yes.. :P

You are in the glass cannon territory from the moment you picked D.Elf..! Anyway the AW is versatile class than can do insane amount of dmg when unnoticed and its a top dagger class. PW's dmg output suck and TH's are balanced in the middle with a small advantage of extra hp. However AW's hit harder and they'll be hitting even harder in CT1 where they get Critical Power passive lvl 7.
At 79 a GH gets CounterAttack that reflects dmg from Physical Skills therefore a good small proportion of the dmg inflicted to him is reflected back to the enemy he fights...

imo CounterAttack > Mirage

imo CounterAttack > Mirage

Counter Attack lasts like 5 seconds bro.

Mirage lasts for 1 minute. You see the AW cast that skill you run away for 5 seconds and it's worthless. You see a TH pop Mirage, I hope you're fast at targetting.

Mirage blows Counter Attack out of the water in every way.
AW > TH :P
blinding blow has an effect most people tend to ignore: turns target around
so at an "early" level of 66 you have 1/2 of the lvl 77 skill "bluff"
add trick and switch to it and you have 2/3 of bluff o.o it's not like the stun lands much for bluff anyway :P

and any dagger class hitting you from behind is scary :O AWs especially since they can 1hit you the easiest

also coming CT1 TH can't enchant their crit chance/power passives while PW and AW can for cirt chance and crit power respectively, this could turn out to be a big thing... but we'lll see since I have no idea how good the enchanting for these 2 skills will be like.

HEX PAWNS.

low con? wel... it's not like a couple hundred HP will make that much of a difference, when people in this game hit for thousands of damage at a time... the much higher base run speed is also very useful, I personally dislike the dash skill since it takes a little bit of time to cast, and it runs out quickly (THs can usually only catch 1 slow running class and hit 1-2 times before it runs out... then a elf mage will run faster than them :P), blinding blow is a nice addition to a AW/PW's arsenal, and as a bonus it boosts their run speed nicely too.

basically... in conclusion, a TH is *slightly* more sturdy, up there in damage ability, but in my honest opinion, not nearly as versitile as the other 2 dagger classes.

and yea, a lvl 78 AW can 1 shot my 76 prophet with clanhall buffs ONLY, i.e. deathwhisper 1 (does about 6k damage on my 800pdef), a TH i can just spam root and run away (humans fighters have lowest mdef)

for the person saying run away from a AW if they do counter attack buff... LOL maybe a TH can dash away (and they say elves run away the best??), but every other class except PW/SR/SwS can never out run a AW, and showing your bare back to an AW is the stupidest thing you can ever do.

and the cancel target thing? lol I wonder if you ever played a class that can cancel targets... or fought against one (I am assuming you're relatively competent since you're lvl 78 but i've been proven wrong before...) holding on the the attack button or any skill/magic cast will automatically retarget... it's the wonderful l2 engine doing it's wonderful magic of making things not work as they are supposed to... and in this case it's to a TH's disadvantage.

seriously, THs are the most boring and inversatile dagger class there is.. they may be able to own PW and AW (i said *maybe*) but this game isn't all about 1v1, or dagger vs dagger...
I've fought 79 AW's, I've fought 79 TH's.

The TH is much more dangerous of the two.
Not that Ive fought the two of them 79's, but theoretically and from what I can see and evaluate... I agree with Devilstar.
