Next on the list is Paid Services. Included in these services is the highly anticipated Character Server Transfer. I dont have a ton to say about these services yet, but I do want to let people know that there will of course be rules on when and where characters can transfer as well as restrictions on what items and how much Adena a character can transfer with. More details to come in the near future, but Im targeting the launch day of Chaotic Throne 1 as the same launch day for paid services.
Well, the launch day of CT 1 is tomorrow. There have been no details about the services, no mention of the services release date, and no mention of which services will be implemented when. Since apparently Tim Tan doesn't know or has no control over this kind of thing, would you care to update the record Alyra?
And as a side note, why did NCSoft bother with the in-game recorder? Its crap, you can't watch the videos 6 months after you make them. What's the point? And why are you only able to tell us this TWO DAYS BEFORE LAUNCH? Seriously, are you flying by the seat of your pants and horribly understaffed? Yesterday we had to petition a critical glitch in the Festival of darkness and didn't get a response in a half hour, and the 7 signs cycled over with our issue unresolved, costing us 500 rep points.
Its getting painfully embarrassing, isn't it Alyra?
yes he did, except he forgot that Mister Tan never actually said "we are GOING to do it EXACTLY when CT1 gets live" he said "we will try"
which is two different things.
had he said the former, i would /concur. but no blame and nothing bad can be said about someone who "tries" and fails as opposed to someone who "guarantees" and doesnt come through.
Let us travel down the road of common sense; Don't you think that NC Soft is better off waiting to see what the subscription base is going to be like before making promises on the ability to change your account (transfers, name change etc.) Also, if they waited until Dec 31 to release, do you think that would have a significant change on your happiness with the game?
Remember, its a game not life. However, as in life nothing is perfect. Stop being a bubble boy :-)
someone in NCSoft NA could just say : "ok, sorry we won't be able to do the characters services for CT1".
one more time, there's no communication...
If your washing machine goes down and repairer says to you "i'll try to come next monday", and the next monday i don't come without any explainations, what will you do?

Erm....
Gamespy Article:
"or a nominal fee, players can now transfer characters between servers and change their names. This is more important than it seems in a game with a simply brutal leveling-up process. Now switching clans no longer means having to start at ground zero. Players will also be able switch a character's sex and the game will automatically carry over their appearance choice. Ironically, the only race this won't work for is the Kamael thanks to their sex-specific class requirements. The Kamael is currently undergoing public testing and is expected to go live at the end of December. "
Warcry Article:
"One of the most waited for features was the ability to switch servers or change names. This will be coming with the Kamael update. There will be restrictions on server changes, both in amount of adena and items you can move as well as how often you can move. Right now, changing gender will result in the same customization choices carrying over. If you had Face A and Hair D, you will still have them when your sex change is complete. Choose wisely, what looks good on one gender can be not as attractive on the other."
The big one! Drum roll please!!
L2 Vault interview:
"Leyanire
In the interview with MMORPG.COM live chat you let slip that character transfers on NA/Euro servers could be a view of the future. Can you give us a more solid time line?
Tim Tan
Character transfers and other paid services are scheduled to become active when we launch The Chaotic Throne 1 to the live servers. "
Hi Spud, I believe thats Tim Tan talking. Freaking owned ******! hehe
I really think people are freaking out over nothing. It's just not practical or feasible to give moment by moment updates. Now, granted, it would have made more sense had they also included info on transfers and other services with the announcement of CT1 going live, but this seems pretty par fo the course.
People need to relax a bit. Really. They are coming and they are coming soon.
Sovrath, I'm sure they are coming soon. They've been coming soon for over two years. People get jaded when soon is years away. After two years of "soon", NCSoft is a bit thin on credibility on the whole "soon" thing.
At any rate, they still have a lot of work to do on communications.

Well, I suppose that is true and I can appreciate that people are a bit Jaded.
However, I am fairly confident that all of this will be addressed Soon
its clear to anyone whos been here since the start, they have much less staff now than then. these forums were much busier in c1. i guess they sank those greenbacks into TR..way to go.

Didnt everyone already leave Erica like two chronicles ago? :X
And remember NCSoft never said which Kameal update this stuff would go in and Tin never said what "year" the dec update would be in effect.
NCSoft has a new skill "+9 Enchanted, Evade Customer Base" effect lasts until all users leave the game, and has no re-use timer, can be spammed at any time.
hi ashane. please highlight his guarantees. i see nothing more than a loose definition of "with" and a somewhat vague reference to "expected" not to undermine a "scheduled" that really has no reference to "same-day" or "same-week" activity.
the mention of no dates in all three articles helps to mud-ify the situation.

Erica is an extremely live, interesting and active server. A bunch of the losers left a while back, which made things much nicer!

Character transfers and other paid services are scheduled to become active when we launch The Chaotic Throne 1 to the live servers.
Read, then re-read, and tell me how you cannot find a date in there.
Typically "When we launch CT1 to the live servers", which is a date.. December 12th.
Scheduled means they are to be released at that time.
You can debate words, since I know thats what you love to do, but its pretty clear in every single CT1 review, plus some korean guy or whatever telling us its being released at the same time.
if CLEARLY we knew it was coming same-day as CT1 ... why are people crying ?
does it sound better if i say "details tomorrow" ?
and really in the grand scheme of things why would you want to know the rules before you were subject to them? if the rules for transfer were given during PTS whats the wager there would be 6000 people screaming "GIMME GIMME GIMME GIMME" before CT1 was even active a week.

alright, lets examine the Tim Tan quote...
SCHEDULED: this can mean a few different things. a schedule, firstly, is not a simultaneous occurrence. it is a sequential occurrence. this means "WHEN CT1 goes live" X is scheduled to follow. still no mention of a date despite the 36hrs of notice we got. a scheduled event means an event running for either x amount of time or beginning on x day. simply because it is scheduled still does not deliver a date.
ACTIVE: again many meanings. active as in rules set, and services posted, or active as in were going to start being serious about making rules. the previous articles made no mention of rules, only of what you should see as a service. i.e. sex change.
so, please clarify HOW i got forum pwnd, as clearly we think two different ways.
the english language is delightfully easy to murk, and bugger up.
When dealing with customers, implying a date and actually saying a set date does not make a difference.
Alyra had said that they were not holding details from us and that they would post them when they knew what they were. Since they havent posted them yet, they must not know right? If they don't know now, when will they know?

dude spud, lawl. stop trying.. you got bucket crit to the face. he obviously hit you in a sore spot, like tyson with the ear chew. just walk away haha.
When dealing with customers, implying a date and actually saying a set date does not make a difference.
if this is true then its still not Tan's problem. it would be an interpretation issue.
since my interpretation and your interpretation vary, it is impossible to actually say a date of any importance regarding anything because obviously someone will try to throw those words back in the speaker's face accusing of lies.
the above statement by Teed cannot therefore be true. and because it is not true there must be one interpretation of the date when things happen which was not stated at the time of the interview.
remember folks, when that interview was made they speculated 4th quarter 07. if they knew the exact day, it would have either been anounced at the time of the interview, or when the PTS came up. since this date was heretofore unknown by everyone but the lead team, it is ONLY logical to surmise that the "paid services" update will similarly be sprung.
i make no appologies for the triple post, but after reading the Gamespy and the warcry interviews it seems to me that the only inference to a date is the END of december. and that statement was made on the 7th. the 12th is neither the End of december nor is it anywhere mentioned of an earlier live date.
my only assumption then is that Korea must have given NCNA notice that they must split the releases up. opting for Paid services for the end of the month, the PTS went live ASAP.
What is the big deal? When the services are available you will or will not use them. Telling you when the services will actually happen is irrelevant to you using them. The whining and crying about something you cant control is just plain silly.
Nothing to see here folks, everyone move along please.
Of course it all could be moot and by amazing revelation, full details and the services themselves may go live tommorow.
Then again, pigs may fly... and hell, pigs almost fly in the piggy event, so who knows.
Its crystal clear exactly what Timmah was saying though, just like in every review, they all say when CT1 goes live or "with CT1" not "later after CT1".
I don't know about many of you but I am becoming rather tired of all this. Our guild (which currently is rather small compared to days of old) Pays NCsoft $5500.00 per year (with probably another $5500.00 worth of members sitting out right now) ( my personal contribution is $600.00) and I'd like some answers for once.
I remember sitting on Bartz in Prelude waiting and bloody waiting on Server transfers. Come Chronicle one they said it would be sometime after ..... Fast forward 3 years... Where are we at? What's the status?
If they'd implemented this long ago it would have made things so much easier... How many of you have charachters on multiple servers partially leveled up? You know what I mean. (those that get subclasses in 2 months ... probably can't know what i mean and can skip over this part) Hell I don't even think I should be charged the first time I use that service (If i ever do)
I think people just want some answers .. as it helps with planning the next phaze of their L2 experience. Not only about server transfers but also about the following ..
- Name changes
- Sex change
- What servers will be involved
- New servers
- Will they be relaxed
- Comunicate with us your comunity
Does Ncsoft owe us this? No, probably not, But Lineage2 is a good game that could have been and still can be so much better if they'd just "LISTEN" & "COMUNICATE" with their comunity. That is the key.

Read the second paragraph. It says "The Kamael update also BRINGS three new account services which will be available to players."
Lets look at the word bring. If I am Bringing a gallon of milk home, does that not imply that the milk is arriving at my home at the same time I am?
If it is an interpretation issue, then it IS Tan's issue. You can only misinterpret if the information was not communicated well. If NCSoft didnt communicate well, then IT IS THEIR PROBLEM.
please, contemplate the differences between "commitment" and "dedication".
when you arrive at the conclusion they are in fact one-and-the-same, youll begin the reasonable doubt that Brings doesnt actually Include.
edited to add: the thing about Bring is just how it can mean something of no object.
i can bring holiday cheer. you wont know when it's arrived but i will have brought it. bringing a gallon of milk is not the same as bringing an account transfer service, nor indeed holiday cheer.
either way its still an interpretation issue. unfortunately we are splitting hairs.

What does it matter? A play on words. Tomorrow could bring a whole slew of announcement by the L2 team as a "surprise" but the fact of the matter is they are not keeping their comunity updated properly.. and rarely ever have. It frustrates many as I am sure you know. It's not weather they deliver the goods or not which is a moot point to most just talk to us dammit, Give us some clue as to what the hell is going on and do so on a regular basis.

I don't doubt its an interpretation issue, but that is still NCSofts problem. If they had communicated well, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I think the lack of communication is the reason for everyone to be upset.

Yeah right :p
And what about new gamers looking for a game that comes on this forum and only see people crying about this and that,
no reply what so ever from Community Manager or Moderators of the forum :(

They will see that in any game they go to including the most popular mmo on the planet right now. Besides, Many of us have stayed silent now for 3+ years. I try to bring people to this game all the time. Many have come, getting them to stay AHHH now there is the kicker.
I only cropped out non-relevant text and added red lines to help read.
I appreciate the screenshot, but why do we have to get that sort of information from a 2nd hand source? what does NCSoft have to lose by telling us that?

/Quote NCAlyra we have to ensure that servers dont go past there cap limite .....
Easy to do have real ingame GM that will ban the bots,
do a /gmlist ingame and see what message you get...
There are no GMs currently visible in the public list as they may be performing other functions at the moment ;)
now if we would have this message instead
/gmlist
GMwhatever name is online
now /message GMwhatever i want to report a group of botter at the location 48401, 174616, -4976
now GMwhatever ports to the location and see a party of 9 all doing the same thing at the same time running always in perfect line all over each other, does it take really a 6 months of investigation to see that thoes are botters ?
but we all know that wont happend since they will lose tons of cash if they do such a thing
Golkonda, you obviously don't know that the /gmlist command is not designed to work like that any more.
The GMs sit and look at a queue that lists all servers and the petitions that come up on them. That helps them monitor 10 servers at once, rather than one server that they show up on /gmlist.
This was all brought up in several posts over the last few years, ever since that change was made.

No i was not aware of that change, so its easier and less cheaper for NCSofts to have one person monitor all 10 servers petitions, then actualy having a real ingame (GMs) community service, and clean up the mess they did (bots) by not having any ingame GMs
For those that don't get anyone else's impatience with this company, you must realize that we waited three years for NCsoft to "evaluate" the service, and would really like to GET the service before the 4th year arrives. That would be fantastic.
Even NCsoft NA doesn't get our frustration because most of their employees haven't even been there as long as most of the customer base. This is all new to them.
Same goes with all the other problems we've been waiting to be solved for over 3.5 years. They keep feeding us the "we're working on it" answer for years.
Altho, as others have mentioned, I imagine they are waiting to see if the Kamaels actually pull in new/old customers and see how the server status is.
Or they are waiting for their email from NCsoft Korea with instructions on how to implement the service :)
