Okie quick post , I like the new pet system because its easier and reminds of lineage 1 :) , hated the old one thats why I never picked up pet training , here comes my question.
I am going to level a pet well into its 70s (Hopefully) if you were me would you do Wolf or Dragon ?
I can't decide because both have their Cons and Pros so I need your help. Thank you for your help.
i would go wolf
1) they start at a lower level, so more of an accomplishment
2) they only just became easy to level
3) they only just became useful at higher levels
4) for the reason above, if you get it to a high level and dont like it, you can sell it for a decent amount of money :)
5) striders are so last chronicle
It's not too hard...the wolf has high patk, but poor defense. The Hatchling has low patk, but much higher defense.
Depending on what your character class is, pick the one that you are more likely to be able to keep alive.
I assume your a melee class...cuz if your a nuker it doesn't matter what pet you take, your still going to do all the work. Except maybe if your Body to minding, in which case the heals of a baby pet may be more useful than any other pet. (although much easier for mobs to snack on.)
Also, as far as costs go. In order of cheapest to most expensive to gear and feed:
Baby Pet (Cougar, Buffalo, Kookaburra)
Twilight Hatchling **
Wolf
Star or Wind Hatchling
Strider
Black Wolf
** A twilight hatchling will cost as much to gear up as the other two hatchlings...but it eats far less food. So it's overall operating cost is lower. (It's also much weaker as well.)

hehe ^_^
Admittedly a Striders probably doesnt make people go "wow" anymore (if they ever did O_O? ) but they are a decent mount and ultimately, fun to run around with. In terms of actual usefulness, thats about as far as a Strider goes.
Striders have an extremely poor P.Atk/M.Atk and could probably just about take on an Elpy whilst riding one, their gear is extortionately expensive; but they are/were faster (not necessarily easier) to level the old damage = xp way, in my opinion.
Also after you obtain a Strider there isn't much else to look forward to... A Wyvern? Good luck becoming a castle Lord, and even then the **** thing isn't permanent (*~*)
Wolves are actually battle capable, their gear is cheaper (or use to be), and from what i have seen, have pretty decent stats at higher levels. Personally i dont find Wolves as cool lookin' as Striders but soon you will be able to mount a Wolf too... rendering a Strider largely irrelevant (T_T)
To cut a long story short, although i am a lover of Striders, Wolves are definitely the better choice.

Level a wolf. If you get it to 70+ then you will be able to ride it after the next patch (Kamael +).
I don't know much about the DD power of the strider, but the wolf is a good DD (just dies easily).
wind strider has the best dd with striders but still low when compared with a wolf. strider has more P defence but once the wolf becomes a black wolf with top gear he hits so hard with vr3 it don't manner. My black wolf is now my DD and tank and they eat very little which is good the food cost a lot.
Actually i can say a wolf will help you lvl now if u have top equip but they lvl slower now at low lvls.
I just was dissapointed that the wolf lvl 21 gets outlvld from the character lvl 21. In order to progress and lvl the wolf more you have to delevel or choose another character to lvl it. Well i dont see that happen on the great wolf so far.
Anyway a wolf has good patk for well cheap gear and he gets better every lvl. However they have weak pdef and mdef and can get killed fast if u dont pay attantion.
A Hatchling dont need equipment at all now and even you have top equip ( thats much more expensive then the normal wolfs) they dont do much damage to the mobs.
The wind might have the best patk of all hatchlings but the ultimate defense skill or the stun are not that usefull at all.
The twilight one has no skills at all beside riding it later they have absolutly no use.
The Star hatch might be worth getting it has a self heal and a magic burst skill that will become a lot better later
( a clanmate has a lvl 73+ with over 800 matk in top equip ).
It can actually help you lvl too but clicking the burst botton is very worse for normal lvling you will end up to hit the burst all time while fighting.
The Great Wolf is awesome. With top equipment ( about 150-165 mil depending on tax ) he is a big help for melee chars or buffer/ healers.
If you ask me if u plan to play a support class or tank i would lvl a wolf.
If you plan to play a nuker with body to mind lvl a baby pet ( for hp recharge if u need ) or any other pet (but they wont have much use for you then ).
Hatchlings and the new method for leveling pets make it easy to level them. Twilight is just a taxi. Star and wind would be more useful if you could somehow use shots with them. A level 55 star strider and mounted nuker is like wielding a +3 som (no acumen, no shots). Each level higher is like a free +1 but usefulness is negated by not being able to use shots. In the end just settle for the taxi cab.
Wolf is different. Right now I'm leveling it just by having it absorb xp but wolf and transformed PP is awsome DD combo. Just xp where herbs drop or bring a healer/beg for a vr.

Hence why i say go wolf :)
I lvl'd a Star Hatchling to Strider first of all but found not being able to use shots whilst being mounted made them pretty redundant.
In the end i just settled for the 'Taxi Cab', Twilight was really easy to lvl but as i mentioned before, being able to mount them is about as far as it goes unfortunately (T_T)

Eggy ^_^
Just make the wolf at 70+ and CT1.5 you can mount them and best DD partner after it becomes a Black Wolf. So far that's the best thing I like about Ct1. lol I remember so many telling me back in the day that lvl my wolf was a waste.......I don't see them saying that anymore now.
:D
I do like my Wind hatchling (level 59) for my BH thou. :D

:D
I was one of those people >.<
My My My.... how foolish do i look now lol ^_^
Yeah despite Wolves now being the better companion, i still love my Strider. Who knows... one day they may actually make Striders more useful... i mean c'mon they are DRAGONS for crying out loud! They are s'pose to breath fire and kill Knights in Shining Armor (Wyvern does not count lol).
