Longer: All nukers have a couple of aoe nukes, all of them have the same radius. Sleeping Cloud / Aquasplash / Tempest / Cyclone / Flame Strike and so on. and if theese nukes are sent to the leader of a group spawn you hit every mob in a spawn. But if you happen to be a Sorcerer and you get to 58 for that next aoe skill that you been missing you get "Rain Of Fire" and go up to the groupspawn and target the leader ... and nuke.. 1 mob get hit, aint that a little stupid?
Example i was out testing a bit and had 2 mobs meleee punching me and i used Rain of fire on one of them, the otherone wasnt even hit. that was melee range.
Why is Rain of Fire so limited when every other nuke aint?
Well i like them, I was looking forward to the 58 nuke and i got it got disapointed about it. but ... good friends got me to noble anyways ... still like it and i hope to be able to do something about it
I've never played a sorc, but it sounds the same crap as Corpse Burst. Very small radius, plus the mobs have to be very close together and on as flat of a surface as possible cause if you have 2 mobs and one's on a small rock, the other right next to that rock, well the one on the rock will miss the entire nuke.
lemmah fill ye in on something about rain of fire...
its a similar skill to the tyrant's Force Buster. aoe range of 140 - except this has a longer cast range (tyrant need to be right up close to cast)
useful under two conditions: 1) when youre grouped with other AOE'ers (preferably another tyrant and a SH - IP or OOP pp/se) and you have a tank/warlord puller. 2) when youre using rocks.
grouped with other AOE'ers Rain of fire works not bad. of course, it would depend WHERE you stand to cast; being the unusual nature of this kind of party, you would want the tyrant on the one side of the corner where the WL or Tank pulls, and the Sorc and/or SH/other AOE nuker class on the OTHER side of the corner where the puller comes to. hating together you would do Blazing Circle and Rain of fire, the tyrant would do Force Storm and Force buster, the SH would do Tempest and Auraflash if necessary but the mobs (even the 4x cata mobs) will be down in a hurry. if the timing is right, you dont even need the puller to swing. one SE heal would be enough - theres enough power in the that AOE setup that the only limitation is the MP of everyone in party.
of course, that would be true in interlude. AOE skills and poles being limited to 15 targets now in CT1 just throws all that good fun out the window.
about rocks - i dont really think its a terrain exploit but there are certain rocks that you can climb on top of can cast spells down from that will pull the mobs into the corner of the rocks. theres one in Frozen lab, one in the Hotsprings i think (been a while) and one in IT pit. you simply pull the mobs to the corner of the rock, walk up the back side and blast. sometimes it doesnt work though, and for the power of the solo AOEer, its too costly.
yeah this skill rock but u have to have the mob on top of u to work i pull train with my clan leader who is a sorc 3rd class and i drop the mobs on him and spam hate aure and hit does rain of fire and the blazin cirlce and rain of fire hits everything
Not quite sure why you'd want an SH over a SpS in any AoE situation - but yes, sometimes the mobs can be pulled so close that the radius basically doesn't matter anymore. :) I've seen RoF blow up in a tight group of enemies, and it's wooo shiny. ^_^

it really doesnt matter - but based on the OP asking about Sorc aoe, the bottom line is you need more firepower to make it useful. be it SH, Tyrant or SPS. at the very least the SH isnt a mana broken class.
58 and realizing the downsides.....you're in for a hard freakin lesson.
You get an over hit skill as a sorc.....at 77....your body to mind does crap....in walk mode you look like a duck with a stick up its butt and you dont have the boobs of a female SH, the male sorcs are somehow a little more limp wrist than male SH's and you could never have the cast speed of a sps who nukes like a machine gun on steriods when given the right buffs and support.
If you're whining about rain of fire.....
Also, if youa re trying to level a sorc with aoe in CT1...whew..you have you're job cut out for you! You're best bet would be to strip it down to it's sorry excuse for underwear and watch for 7 days on your login screen as it kills itself in sit-mode. The end result will cause you less agony than the grind to 80+ on it.
you have a whole lot more to look forward to whining about. Or you could try to look at this glass like it's half full and try to convince yourself it's something worth sticking to, which at this point someone should just end your toons life for you constantly.
Well i was 58 realized the aoe wasnt the thing i wanted ... i stuck with it and now im noble anyways :P (the sorc is my sub).
And about the AoE in CT1 ... its easyer then in Interlude blazing circle+aura flash on the right mobs = 5 dead mobs in 2 nukes and you barely take damage doing it.
