It has recently come to my attention that the nukers were not the only toons to experience the failed Matks. My friends gladiator failed with two of his ranged magic attacks in a row the other day. My archer was landing his hex with less frequency as well.. So maybe I jumped the gun a bit on my post before... We all got our spells NUKED with this update.. Hmmm maybe UD ought to have a chance to fail also... Same with buffs .. how about heals... ultimate evasion...hate spells... did i miss any.. im sure I did and Im sure you guys will tell me.. totally missing the point...Maybe on melee toons you should press the attack button and you toon turn around to you and say "Ah i dont feel like it, Im a little tired atm" LOL .. but sorry anyway I thought it was just the Nukers getting the shaft on this one .. I was totally wrong...
Happy Holidays
Luv u all
SHOCKER
I noticed this on my necro right away :( It will mean a lot more deaths for sure, and limit what mobs we can fight now :/
I look forward to new Chronicles* like I look forward to a trip to the dentist :p Always changing names of things (but not everywhere so you have a quest that says to find soandso but the name was changed so you cant find them..., nerfing things that were perfectly ok and instead of fixing bugs for the most part they just bring a bunch of new bugs
*(yes I will always call them chronicles regardless) Let's name the next chronicle "Who gets the shaft this time?" :)
I'm sorry but I still think this is "dealable". I've failed attacks with many mobs after me and have always survived. Got a little hairy a few times but at least it broke up the steady rhythm of leveling.
actually, i am not so sure force fires fail, theyre still Physical based. if they COULD fail, you'd see people whining that Hammerstrike, Fatal strike, etc also fail. their effects sometimes fail to land, but the attack itself does not miss nor fail. dagger strikes being the exception to the rule.
Everyone who dismisses mages as merely whining are doing so in a hypocritical fashion. They know that this new realteration to the magic system makes them better off if they are a physical damage class.
As far as Sovrath, yes this change is not the end of the world, but that doesn't mean it isn't an overly bad change. When mobs only give 15,000 exp for a solo kill, you need 1,000,000,000 exp or 66,667 15,000/mob kills to gain a level and each death costs you either 1.3 million adena for a brez or 10,000,000 exp (667 mobs), a good chance of death once every hour is the worst possible design flaw. This is because a single death sets you back many hours worth of game play, and in trying to make up for the loss, you have again a good chance to suffer another loss making you even worse off as you now have two losses to make up, in so giving you more chances to die once again while making up 2 losses, etc. etc.
Ultimately the problem of the system is that the chance of loss and the cost of a death are far greater than the reward from taking on that risk of loss (15,000 exp and maybe 3000 adena). This is why failing magic spells on a paper armor wearing class can be deemed unaccpetible in pve content.
The other problem is that unlike melee attacks where a miss costs nothing but time and maybe a hundred hp, a 1 hp spell costs 69 mp and a bsps (800-1000 adena per s bps on Lionna), not to mention a larger proportion of damage verse total hp pool. And I have yet to see a physical skill or attack be cancelled or interupted by damage.

Afterall this is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Play Game also called MMORPG...if you grind solo everytime you are out grinding you are turning this game into a Online RPG and remove the existance of other players that makes it into a MMORPG.
This isn't directed just to you, but to ALL that are crying that they can't solo grind any more...even with buff pets while maybe a live buffer would had made it posible.

I rarely die as I never CDL. I just hunt dense mobs that give less experience but that are very "dealable". You are correct in that death does put one back but I say that one just needs to rethink their leveling. Still, as there don't seem to be many high level hunting spots (I haven't really explored all of the new content but the new Island to the East with the unfinished floating city is not a great solo place) that might be a problem.
As far as the other poster indicating that mages need to find a party. Well, that is not always easy. Many people just don't want mages in the party except if they are close clan/ally members.
Very few people are shouting "looking for sps, looking for sorceror, looking for necro, looking for Spell Howler".
Though I do recall a time where everyone was trying to get into mage parties on TOI. What happened with that!
Or mage AoE at ABG! The new areas being very SPS hostile is a strange move from NCSoft, I give you that. Perhaps many would feel that this isnt so bad if the mobs wouldnt all be resist aqua.

Just find an EE or SE and you should be fine. They can buff you (Clarity/PoW/Empower), recharge, heall and controll the mobs for you.
Sorc/SpS is great to have in party when they can do Sleeping Cloud to sleep the mobs (yes it is slow, but it helps alot).
SH is also great to have because they can keep their MP up for a longer time with BtM if the party don't have a recharger for him/her.
I often find nukers at TOI that need a recharger or to help controll the mobs.
I wanna see people pop a QHP or Greater CP pot and get the message:
"The potion has reached its expiration date" and give them zero effect :p
except of course when YOU pop one.
I can count on one hand the number of times I have popped a QHP. CP pots are another story of course, but I wouldn't mind the misfire message, why would I suggest it if I meant it for everyone but myself?
MMOG stands fopr massviley multiplayer, in that alone you are correct. However you have quite a ways to go to towards an understanding of that significance.
What it specifically refers to is that many people are simultaneously playing some game all on one server or cluster of servers. This MMOG in no way describes the type of interaction between those players, nor does it require that there is any interaction at all, the only requirement for something to be an MMOG is that a very large number of people are playing simulataneously.
As far as grouping is concerned. I never get invites, ever. The SE I had duoed with up to now has become much less available, and i have not been able to find a replacement of a level high enough to recharge me. Lacking a clan hall, I don't even have basic buffs when I solo, it is the real deal.
But my habits and lack of ability to acquire a group or another duo partner are a complete nonissue in relation to why C7 is a horrid time to play a mage (since it has been all but impossible to get a group as a mage for quite soem time). What is the issue is that the reintroduction of half failures and full 1 damage failures coupled with a complete nerf to surrender and the vortex spells (ice vortex is now completely useless and surrender's only use is to remove the specific elemental resistance buff) decreased overall mage damage which was already decreasing as higher level of mobs continue to get higher levels of hp and magic defense on a straight line basis while mage spell power and effective magic attack (after it is square rooted) were already peetering off due to lack of actual spell upgrades and the magic attack of weapons increasing in a manner not in line with the fact that magic attack is square rooted. I am doing less damage now in the middle of Ketra with S grade than I was doing at level 44 in Cruma Tower 2 with a non enchanted mid c grade weapon; this in spite of thr fact that the actual hp of the mobs I am trying to kill has gone up quite significantly as has the damage they do to me.

PS: Thank you Ellisande for teaching him/her the true meaning of an MMORPG. Now, the bigger question is, will he learn/accept that or no?
Glads only failed when they ran "out of luck" meaning their chargers faded mid skill. This was the case since ever but more noticeable in C5 where you still had left over chargers from your previous attack, meaning you didnt refresh your charge timer from 0. I haven't noticed any other failing in CT1 that would make you deal 1 damage.

If this game was meant for soloing and ONLY soloing then WHY the hell do we HAVE BUFFERS AND HEALERS in the game????
but why am I talking to a 8 years old that won't understand anyway...see you and have fun with your class now that it has returned to the way it used to be. I would had played as a nuker, but I prefer to be up close and beat the mobs to death.
You can solo. You can duo, trio, full group. You can use a pet, tranform, train a wild beast. There are a lot of options.
I think I'm personally losing sight of WHY buffers and healers are in game, TBH. Between buffs in fortresses/clan halls, potions, scrolls, newbie guides, heal pots, brez, bsoe, and new places were you CANNOT have more than 2 people... I'm pretty sure ncsoft is trying to "breed" us all out.
But isn't that to be expected and for the same reason that tanks aren't that desired in serious grinding groups. Groups want to get as much exp/hour as they can, and any class in that group who does not contribute to damage output in a manner sufficient to make up for the 1/n amount of exp they are taking is considered to be dragging the group down.
This is why I as a mm have not gotten a group invite (though I have forced myself into a few groups, but was never invited in), and is why I imagine Ellie's Cardinal hasn't gotten all that many good group invites.
Oh I have a good clan, groups are not a problem but unless we're going somewhere dangerous I'm not "needed". The designers of this game has seen to that.
Tanks, and bishops are big party chars. The new areas (2 people party max!) see to exclude us.

So go there in a party from a tank and a bishop. Like me:-) Everyone wants to get VR buff but it doesn't really help that much. A better healing is a quite enough compensation for the lack of few gained through VR hit points.

Haha, I figured you wouldn't understand the definition of MMOPRG even though someone else was kind enough to post it for you.
By the way, I have 2 kids myself. So don't talk to me about being an 8 year old, sonnie :p
I'm done talking to you as you struggle to get an undestanding on even the basic concepts, why bother waisting time with ya.
Sigh... This thread turned out exactly like the other thread... From complaing "****, my spell failed for a second times this week!" to "Look! Do you see how great am I"
Handel here's an idea Shut up and go troll on Blah.
You should do us all a favor and go back to blah as you need to calm down before you post here...and btw watch your kids...you might learn something from them.
An SE would make a far better DUO partner to a tank than a Bishop would, for just the buffs alone. In pretty much any scenario.
If you need the heals of a bishop, you probably should not be in that place because a tank does not have the DPS to make it efficient for the bishop.
I guess spamming UD whenever it pops can help, though. Lol.
SE is probably the best buffer/healer type class to duo with any type of melee DD in the game. Just give it a Staff of Evil Spirits/Blessed Body and you're pretty much Good to Go. Haste pots are cheap.
Warcryers are good also, but they don't have Recharge/Invocation :)
