Coming back to l2 after a year away, Ive noticed alot of changes. My complaint in this post is the spoil land rate. I did a count today of every time my mob turned blue (hunting whites and greens @ lvl 47) Spoil activated on average 3 out of 5 mobs, but I only had mobs turn blue and actually gain something one out of every 15. Has anyone else noticed the definite lack of spoiling going on? I realize that some of the changes may be to discourage our 'friends' but its really done a number on those who actually play a dwarf. Its gotten so bad that Ive dragged out my lvl 30 cleric and gotten more stuff than from my BH.
Maybe try spoiling different mobs? I'm a bh and I haven't had any trouble...in fact I've made more lately than I ever have before, although I am spoiling slightly higher lvls than you.
It could be that the particular mob you hunt has a low chance of flashing, mix it up some and try a bunch of different ones. Variety is the spice of life, after all.
Well, I've been hunting all over the last few days, finishing up some old quests in my log, just because Im bored. the best spoil Ive had, and I mean an almost every time blue mob, has been light blues in IT. I'll never lvl at that rate. yes, I know, 'You're a DWARF.. you dont level' But I would like to atleast make b grade to be able to go hunting with friends. Its probably just the way my luck falls. Aldric gets teh good drops and I get.....christmas trees.
I was killing the bandersnatch groups in FL earlier today, and the main dog turned blue almost every time - I'm actually unsure of whether any failed to flash blue at all (the minions have low spoil rates, but spoil landed most of the time, until I decided to stop spoiling them).
Like we have the drop rate that determines how often an item should drop from a mob we have a spoil table that determine the same.
You don't get a drop from every mob and the same is for the spoiled mob. It turns blue only if it has something to give to you.
wow, Im not a noob here. I do understand the concept of spoil/drop tables. Ive been playing for around 3 years now. What I am being cranky about is the, to my toon, unacceptable low spoil land rate that I have been getting. Others have good luck spoiling, I don't. I get better drop on my cleric than on my bh, its a fact. Im glad others are having better luck. My congrats go out to them.
And on a truly cranky note, before you go explaining things to someone, find out who you are talking to. They MIGHT just know more than you do.
Sorry about that, but some has complained about the same in the past where they thought that a spoiled mob = a blue mob.
I have a BH around the same level as you and I can spoil just fine...even my lvl 1 spoil on my WS works in Imperial Tomb (1/10-15 mobs gets activated) at the same rate as in Interlude.
Greaaat...more depressing news....Your WS spoils more than me. I'd ask if this year could get any better, but the sink clogged up and backed up into the washing machine, my cat disappeared ALL day, I died 3 times in 30 minutes due to bad bad lag and my clan leader change request did NOT go thru at maintenance AGAIN today and I get the standard..we'll email you about your petition response. Its a holiday, no one working.
I have seen vastly different rates for spoil landing in different fields with the same monster levels. I don't know why, and for all I know, that is normal (or not normal).
Just for reference: The fields I tested in were Garden of Eva bottom ring (not bottom), Catacomb of the Branded, Cruma Tower level 2 and and Devil's Isle (Musveren/Guard rooms).
I might get around to trying out the start of FLab today if I don't get caught up levelling my baby Kamael again, will post the results.

Don't be a jerk. He was only trying to help. On a cranky note from me - you yourself said spoil is landing on 3 out of 5 mobs. So first off there is no problem with your spoil land rate.
Instead of making an unfounded global complaint how about you tell us which mobs you are spoiling. It's not impossible that the mobs you are spoiling just happen to have a very low rate for the items they spoil. eg: if you were spoiling ori ore 1/15 times I'd say that's pretty good.
Anyway main point is that if you're going to get mad and make a post like I quoted - perhaps consider giving us more information in the first place - because a general comment like you made doesn't help people to answer you. But then again maybe you didn't want answers and you just wanted to complain.
On a side note - at lvl 51 I would recommend Oel Mahum's north of Ivory Tower. You'll get lots of bones from them - almost every one that spoil activates on will spoil 1 or more animal bones.
Try reading the rest of my posts before you call me a jerk. Yes, I WAS complaining about MY(read MY PERSONAL) bad luck with spoils. 3 days after Christmas and my house literaly fell down around my ears, I was in a very very very grumpy mood. People on these forums know that. They know me. I am a dwarf. I am allowed to be a bit shirty every now and then.
I've had some really lousy spoil rates latey, but then again my dwarf is a pathetically low level artisan. I've been wondering if the increased magic resistance of the mobs has anything to do with it. (just a wild idea don't flame me too hard < ducks for cover > ).
On my arty, after my first class change, spoil land rate dropped to near zilch. I still use spoil in hopes of it landing. It does....maybe once every 40-50 mobs. Im always...OH COOL!!
by doing your lvl 20 class change quest, if you pay attention, you learn that mobs, once spoiled, have a "turning blue" rate unique to every mob. In short, spoil something else. If spoil doesnt land, level until you can upgrade it or spoil green stuff.
from experience with my scav right before you get skill upgrade on spoil mobs tend to get harder to land spoil
True. For whatever reason spoil really starts to suck right before you get a new skill level.
also from experience the mobs past lvl 50 absolutely suck sometimes for spoil chances...
Not only that, but if you are looking for basic materials you're pretty much screwed unless you get a cata group. The spoils are still really nice, you just can't run out to a field someplace and get good basic mat spoils. It's a bit trickier than it was at low levels.
Again, I like the spoils I just wish that if I needed bone, varnish, etc. I had lots of options that could be solo'd easily. Sticking my nose into a dungeon...uh, it tends to turn into a bloodbath.
the closer the mob to your level, higher the chances of spoil activation. but for bones and similar items, yes, as jacent has mentioned, catas/necros are the place to spoil.
edit: fixed abo\/e. thx for the clarification Aghen. =)
the closer the mob to your level, higher the chances of them turning blue.
FALSE !! higher are the chances that the spoil has been activated... chances of mob turning blue is the spoilrate.
Don't forget the level of the skill:
WS 50 with spoil 1 will have some difficulties to spoil a mob lvl 50
BH 50 with spoil 1 will have the same issues than the WS
BH 50 with spoil 3 will have more chances than the BH 50 / spoil1
BH 50 with spoil 6 has more chances... and so on
Just because this seems to be a re-occurring question regarding spoil.
1)The spoil skill has a 'learn level'. The higher the 'learn level' the easier it is to spoil higher level mobs. You can still spoil L80 mobs with L1 Spoil as a warsmith, but your chances are greatly reduced. (Much like how low level nukes start to fail if they are not upgraded.) You can get lucky, yes. But overall your chance of landing it is very, very low. (Although Warsmith's have so little to effectively do with their MP in pve combat that using it on their low level spoil is a 'fair' way to waste it.)
2)After a mob has been spoiled the only thing that matters is the level of the Spoiler/mob killer. Spoils at this point are treated like drops, that have to be swept. If your level is over the mob level, your chance of getting a spoil is reduced in the same manner. And just like drops, each spoil has their own set rate for 'dropping'. The level of spoil has no effect on this rate, it's all based on the set rates in the database.
3)Because you do not learn spoil at each skill level, there are times when the maximum level of spoil will not be sufficient to ensure the skill 'lands' at a high rate. Usually this is when you are close to reaching the next skill level, where a new level of spoil is available and you are fighting mobs near or above that level.
Does spoil work in pvp? If not they should fix it so it does then. After all some mobs up at the railroad station say the spoil is in you the bandit mobs so let Dwarf spoil work in PVP.
Spoil pretty much went to hell when the mannor system was introduced. Spoil was the way to go but now seeding is it. Only real reason to spoil anymore is for the the items only obtained through spoil.
Ya you can still get stuff but it's not what it use to be. By the way not much has changed in that regard in CT2. Still pretty much takes forever to get enough parts to craft anything except for the only thing worth crafting now is B grade so drops, crafting is pretty much useless prior to B grade.
