Hello,

Its a New Year, and I have to ask it every year!

I want a Double XP/SP event for L2, who is with me?

Almost all of the other NCsoft games have done it, why can't we?!!

So I say who is with me?

FREEEEEEEDOOOOOOM!!!

:p

why can't we?!!

Because everyone would [censored] and moan. <3

It is not in keeping with the feel of the game. According to the Devs.

Quite frankly I have to agree. Sorry. :(

According to the US Dev's.. lets get that straight ;)

I seem to remember Alyra posting about it but don't remember "which" devs she said. However, since the game takes its lead from Korea I assume that it is they who make such decisions.

Or does the Korean market have such events?
In favor? Yes.

Will it ever happen? No.

And if it did, it would probably be in the form of a pursuit of a rare rodent that spawns once every 6 hours in rare locations, like the sea, where no one ever hunts.

/agree

As cool as it would be to level twice as fast during this 'event' it would totally detract from the whole ethos of the game, which ultimately is... to grind!

I myself wouldn't want such an event as i would get to where i wanted to be far too fast, and consequently get bored of the class i was playing even faster, as the novelty of new skills/armor etc. would wear thin.

For me i feel part of the fun in L2 is down to the anticipation of anything new obtained throughout the course of play, whether it be new skills, or new equipment; and as much of a pain in the butt grinding is, im kinda glad it's that way...

It means i have to wait, so when i DO get what iv been pining about, it makes the acquisition all the more satisfying ^_^

XP x2 hardly makes an event. It gives a week of good xp parties easily reachable. It doesn't break three legs of a duck.
At most it would incitate some players with the nose too near the monitor to skip nights/meals/classes, that is all.

Now of course it could be nice for "players" who can stay logged 24/7. :p

Wow, I'm gonna have to use that. I have no idea what it means but sounds cool!

For this event to work, you'd need to increase all drops by the same amount as well. Leveling up faster is useless if you level out of your ability to afford gear.
Any not really makes it much faster... it just means instead of gettin .02 per kill you get .04, wow

instead of getting 6k adena you get 12k ...hm that seems like a bigger boost

Yeah, but my feeling is that it opens up the door for people to cry for "more" of this type of event after it is over. As I've seen, the COX games have had several of these.

Just seems like it goes against the idea of "earning" your lvls.

That is one of the things I like about L2. Not everyone can be high lvl/clan leader/castle holder/ etc.

You have to earn it. (cheaters aside :o )
Double is double. If you level twice as fast you'll end up with half as much adena.
Thats why 80% of high levels cheated some way to get there

In terms of raw figures many would fail to see the impact such a change would have but 2x XP/SP = You gaining levels twice as fast, therefore cutting your overall grind time by 50%. . .

Personally i would call that pretty darn fast!

Which is why on test sever, even with 6x xp,sp, drops, at A grade it was still really slow and S grade OMG

That is one of the things I like about L2. Not everyone can be high lvl/clan leader/castle holder/ etc.

You have to earn it. (cheaters aside :o )

And yet there are so many cheaters, esp. at high levels, the end result is that only the fair-minded truly suffer.

At this stage of the game a multi- XP event should be of a mind to get as many of those fair-minded through the meaningless mid-levels where they can experience much more of the full content of the game... in their lifetime. Obviously if you're 78+, an XP event won't help you one way or the other. But at 45 - 55, it would be a decent boost. And who are we kidding, there isn't much that happens at those levels anyway. Most of the newcomers find themselves grinding without any social interaction, because everyone else is at S grade and beyond.
everyone is at 65 and beyond

I would prefer that instead of rushing people through levels, that they enrich the level ranges so that it is enjoyable to be in those ranges.

Needless to say, I am not amused about the rushing through 1-20 as I had a blast in the game at those levels during Prelude.

Of course we don't have the lower level population at the moment but what if NC were to introduce special fortresses that were only accessible for those levels (*gasp instances*) so that people of those levels (and yes, there would be alts but it will at least invigorate those level ranges) can participate in content that was interesting and fun.

As the game gets older the developers are going to have to start thinking outside the box, especially with getting new players. Sure, the openness of the game will be compromised but if the game doesn't change to accomodate and enrich lower level players (and not rush them through) then you are essentially going to find some high levle players, a disenfranchised mid lvl playerbase and many players that will leave due to no challenge, new players, etc.

A double xp/sp event doesn't really address the real issues and only provides a superficial bandaid that will only act to superficially placate lower and mid lvl players.
Yea they need new content they will induce fun and challenge to all level ranges like fortresses for small clans right... more like for alt clans

Instances for 80+ nice but what about 1-75?

New flying funny little pets cool for castle owners and fortress owners and rare clan hall owners???? not good

New giant wolves that are for 55+ and highly expensive
I'm ok for 55+ but wow highly expensive food gear ss and all

And what happened to owning little pet keltirs at level 5 or 10 or whatever?

Cause in this game the real stuff don't start till mid B grade+
RB's need to be reconfigured cause they are sucking right now

and I did a RB with kamael during the christmas event the only drop was a fir branch...

it would totally detract from the whole ethos of the game, which ultimately is... to grind!

...what kind of game IS THIS??

I would prefer that instead of rushing people through levels, that they enrich the level ranges so that it is enjoyable to be in those ranges.

Agreed, but we all know they aren't going to do that. Not in 5 Chronicles, an Interlude and a Throne...not ever. Not until the number of new subscribers warrants it. Even then, it's best for them to cater to their core base. Better to press "fast forward" and get the newcomers to the middle of the pack. The grind at 55+ is still a decent enough grind and learning curve for everyone to benefit.

Needless to say, I am not amused about the rushing through 1-20 as I had a blast in the game at those levels during Prelude.

Not advocating rushing through the premature early levels, but all the same, it's not a fair comparison. At prelude and C1 everyone else was more or less at the same competitive levels. All of the things that we enjoyed back then in terms of player interaction is light years beyond what a newcomer would see today. And let's not lose sight of the fact that it really is the community that keeps us in this game. It's the game's only saving grace.

Well of course there will be alt clans. Point being is that actual lower lvl players will be able to join and partake in such battles.

Regardless of alt players/clans, new players need to step up to the plate and seek out players who want them. NC can't do it all as players need to take some hand in their own fate.

The influx of new players isn't large enough to solely keep alts from taking part (and no way to really do it) so having alt clans/players mixed with new players is the only way to go. The thing is, you need content that can't be accessed by higher lvl players because otherwise, why bring lower lvl players? The idea is to enrich certain level ranges.

By allowing other players to bring alts or alt clans it at least allows for more robust events.

As far as cheaters, there are cheaters in every game. No way around that it seems. But that doesn't mean that L2 can't better its gameplay for those who don't cheat.

I think there is a 2% chance you're being facestious, and a 98% chance you're serious. Anyways, yeah, some mini-RBs that can be defeated with a small group and give some real drops would be nice. They would pop up in ramdom areas, not the same ones over and over. And they would be appropriate top the level of where they spawned. And only be around for a short time. Thus, to defeat them, any players in the area would have to just form a group and "do ot". No time for calling in clannies, because the mini-RB would leave too quick. In other words, something to encourage more interaction among players. This is what I have read was great about the game in Cruma Tower in the first Chronicles. Anyways, just an idea.
Oh yeah I remember in c1 and c2 Cruma tower was the place to be then in c3 everyone left to the catas and in c4 the bots swamp the lower cats and in c5 all the catas are swamped and many legit players quit the game
I remember c1/c2 as well with the Cruma tower being such a nice spot.

It went from cruma (lower floors) to higher floors, to AL and then ToI afterwards. I miss those times :(

If a double xp/sp/etc event would happen, I'd hope they'd impose something so bots couldnt take much advantage of it (which in itself is a hard thing to do) Or at the very least make it like a 1-weekend friday-sunday event, instead of a week.

But as others have said...won't happen.

When 10% in a night at 40 was **** good exp!

No because such an event doesn't last long. One week at XP x2 is like two normal weeks. In a game where getting at highest levels takes years, I don't see how one less week of grind is so awesome.
And for your information, the ethos of this game is to join groups of friends, form parties, clans and allies to reach the highest goals. Grind is not an ethos, it is the relativization of the interrest of the obstacles before reaching the highest goals.
The ethos of L2 has always been around clans.

gettin .02 per kill

You get .02 per kill?!?! Lucky... it's more like .01 for 6 kills for me...
.02 per kill at the catas off yellow and pink mobs w/o summon with summon its .01 in the fields... omg

I am sad to think about greens and whites

also stun mobs suck
US "Dev's" have no power, the only way you will ever see changes that the NA/EU base wants is if NCNA negotiates and gets the rights to freely run events etc. As of now everything comes from the korean "port this to US server" department.

I don't know why people don't understand this... The Koreans even do the English translation of our updates.

You really should pay attention to the thread before posting a comment.

I made it quite clear in my first post that i was fully aware of this subject being an 'event'.

My second post was merely pointing out that 2x XP IS fast regardless of whether the duration is temporary or permanent. My comment surrounding the issue of getting to a target level faster also applies.

Secondly the ethos of every MMO is what you mentioned above so congratulations on stating the obvious.

However you were right to correct me as 'ethos' was the wrong word to use for the point i was trying to put accross, as what i should have said is that fundamentally, the game 'centralizes' around grind.

You on the other hand are also wrong, grind is not a "relativization of the interrest of the obstacles before reaching the highest goals"; grind IS the obstacle, and it is in fact the 'common goal' which is the so-called 'relativization'. That entire sentence was needlessly complicated, also please be sure to correct your spelling before criticising other peoples' grammar.

You understood the point i was trying to get at quite clearly, you just decided to be awkward so you could attempt to make a valid point out of my mistake.

I know for sure that the Japanese market had such an event. Actually it was like a month ago. I don't remember the whole details, but it was like the "cheap gatekeepers" so lasted for like 6 hours during peak time.

I personally would see no harm in this event and would welcome it.
how about a 1/2 xp 1/2 sp event? but with 5 x drop rate

how about a 1/2 xp 1/2 sp event? but with 5 x drop rate

Put 5X on the spoil rate also, and I would LOVE it.

I can get behind this event!

putting more adena in the game would only further inflate prices..... (unless its 5x non adena drop rate increase, in which case, sure!)
Hmmm... what was the Quote Of The Month from "Grazzt Garage #6" again ?

Oh yes :
"But of course, only in L2 would you have anyone complain about getting double XP. This is a game filled with truly twisted souls" (SinPalabras)

:p
I'd go for a 4x SP event instead. My BD is only going to be about 10m SP short for his lvl 74 skills.

Time to go delevel him and do 72-73 all over again.

Double XP doesn't help new players. It actually hurts them the most. So you are now level 20 twice as fast but have half the adena and half the SP. That is twisted.

The high level players probably need SP and mats more than anything. Double XP might not even be noticed by them.

Double XP might screw with the bots, however. They'd have to delevel for twice as long.
i wasnt actually talking about adena, that can stay the same or can even be reduced , i was thinking more along the lines of increasing chance of D+ full drops and spoils and increase amount of normal and key mats dropped.
---
hammered you must not die enough :D
x2xp x4 sp x8 adena x16 drops

x2xp x4 sp x8 adena x16 drops

I could get behind that if it didn't last too long. Would be a huge boost for new players.

Oh, but for gods sake, make books stack for implimenting, please!
books stack already
yeah why not?

screw it all make every mob drop full top whatever grade you are and 1 million adena each. and make all the mobs 1/4 hp mobs with x 20 xp x 10 sp.
x 20 xp x 10 sp.

Yay level 80 with level 58 skills!
^^ lv 80 with lv 10 skills! woot lv 80 human fighter LFG!

books stack already

I haven't book hunted for a while. Good to know.

Why should we care if XP x2 is faster in general when as you seem to know, we're speaking of an event?
Do you want to speak about relaxed servers?

Secondly the ethos of every MMO is what you mentioned above so congratulations on stating the obvious.

No. It is not the case for all MMORPG. I'm not speaking of "playing vaguely together", I'm speaking of the importance of clans. There's nothing against solo in Ultima Online and World of Warcraft, from my experience. There are a few high level goals in WOW requiring a guild, but you don't necessarily need them to progress.

That is very wicked from you. I never attacked anyone on grammar. On the contrary I ask people to correct mine because it's not my native language. If my sentence is too complicated, it's how I managed to organize my idea. If you're not happy, ask moderators to forbid access to forum boards for non-english users.

You understood the point i was trying to get at quite clearly, you just decided to be awkward so you could attempt to make a valid point out of my mistake.

No you are paranoid. My point is that grind is the consequence of obstacles poorly thought. You can make a game with a long progression arc with numerous obstacles where you don't see any grind because the quests/activities follow your progression adequately. L2 quickly fails there and quickly appears the grind.

Just to say that what removes the necessity of groups is bad for L2 and what removes the necessity of repeating the same action stupidly may be good for L2. You seem to be saying that grind shouldn't be removed because "it's L2". I disagree.

In which case i wholeheartedly apologize if you were insulted, i took your sentence for the 'literal' sense of how you explained it, and felt the need to correct both you and me.

This appears to be where our wires crossed, just because i said L2 centralizes around grind DOES NOT mean that is what i believe the game to be.

Check my other posts in relation to 'what i believe L2/MMORPG's to be', and you will soon understand that i also feel L2 fails in 'quests/activities following your progression adequately'.

Our fundamental beliefs are very similar, however this seems to have been lost in translation.

Personally i just don't think this qualifies as an event, and synonymously does not constitute what events usually (but not always) surround; which is fun, drops and/or items.

Again, apologies for any responses that may have appeared impertinent, as it was not my intention.

Interesting
Ok no problem. :o

If you believe that groups can make the grind fade, then we agree. That's why I'm saying the most important is not the grind.
