Hey yea so my friend is rolling a SE to buff me and whatnot and i am wondering which class i should roll to help them out, i was thinking SH or some melee DD class that can sustain a bit of damage themselves but I'm not sure which is most effective. Any ideas?
why not Sorc>SPS? cast speed doesnt mean much in pve, matk does. the sorc will be 2-shotting mobs the sps wont be able to @ same lvls, plus many mobs have fire weakness, plus a crappy btm. oh and sps have that mana regen buff, not sure if its good tho. so?
Maybe bcause sps can overhit and gain more exp from one mob?
But then again that can be overriden by killing faster for less mana ?
But I don't think you should go a certain class just because you want the optimum class to duo with your friend.. you have to like it too, to fit your play style, to have the skills you likes maybe, judge that based on what skills are available and what is said about each class, then decide.
I'm thinking if it will be constantly Duoed with an SE, a Spellsinger could do well. At higher levels their AoE nuke can be cast quickly, and the MP management shouldn't be an issue with the SE constantly recharging.
If you'd prefer a melee route, perhaps a warlord/polearming destroyer?
having myself lvled a SE to 78 and beyond I would say that a SH is BY FAR the best duo for a SE for the fastest exp. I have duoed with every class and the only ones that can come close are a Necromancer and a Sorcerer. A SPS you guys say is good, no it's not. You will be sitting alot with a SPS regenning MP.
SH hands down is by far the best. Nothing can compare to it.
If you are looking for a fighter class, a BD is always a good selection. This would require the SE to help out by meleeing mobs for fastest exp. Also a tyrant is another good class to duo with a SE but they eat soulshots FAST.

becuase sorcs suefull skills that made them something have been shot dead and although sps sucks at PvE aswell they have it better than sorcs just roll a SH and smile at the dead bodies
Up to about level 68 I think Destroyer or Warlord doing polearm is better than SH. Frenzy nerf doesn't matter to Destroyer at all since it is not needed to pull 2 or 3 full rooms in catacombs. Guts + Rage + Zealot works great.
Note that I have done both with my SE so I have some basis for the claim. Above level 66 or 68 the SH is definitely faster.

I dont think that a destroyer can solo 2-3 rooms in a cat/necro with just SE buffs and GSAP Potions since the polearm VR nerf. Have you tried it in CT1?

Good point. I haven't tried it since CT1 and you are probably right based on what I've read. So sad :( I will go check it out and see what happens, but solo poling 74+ sucks for XP anyway with all the physical resists mixed in the rooms.
A Spellhowler is definitely the fastest leveling class in the game since the polearm nerfs. I played a Spellsinger for 2 years and let me tell you, the Mana Regen buff is nothing compared to body to mind. Not to mention I'm nuking for 10-20% more damage than my SpS.
I have a +4int/wit and a -8men. With a Demon set (+4 int -1 wit) I have a 52 int. Most single HP mobs fall over dead in 1 shot, 2xHP take two and so on.
In a group, I can use Curse Death Link and kill 4xHP mobs in 2 nukes, or 3 with an overhit. Considering it costs the same MP as Hurricane and does almost twice the damage, the risk of staying at extremely low hitpoints is made up for with the increased experience and mana efficiency.
Sleep is nearly useless in PVP now, and Sleep and Silence both can cast faster. Your best bet nowadays with a SpS is to hold down your Hydro Blast button and hope for the best.
I liked my Spellsinger, don't get me wrong. It can still deal out damage faster than any class, but definitely not as efficiently. Body to mind, Death Spike, and Curse death link are a Spellhowler's bread and butter. Spellsingers have nothing to match this.
i liked mine too, but got soo infuriated with farmers everywhere that i turned him red and spent a month pking bots and famrers, then delvld about 10 levels and still not white. So gave him no grade armour and shadow wep and he is there incase i ever get ok'd and need a come back.
I would say SH is best yes, but in my experience Necro,SpS,Sorc.... it doesn't really matter what class... it matters WHERE, Necro's dont really do it in fod however on the other hand if you go to fod with a SpS and you're lucky with herbs (SE takes all herbs and SE knows what s/he does) you can get massive amounts of exp (better then SH in the same time) however with SpS you really are dependant on mp herbs.
And if you wanna know about melee's, I've had real great experience with a TH, a good TH (or other dagger class) knows how to kill stuff effectively and the exp you get will be only slightly slower then a nuker, however TH's drain MP like no other ^^ the good side about them is they do not nessicarily need the mp to kill so you're in less danger when you run out of mp then when you're with a nuker ^^
Archers is only nice because SE's have Focus/DW/Guidance (same why SE is nice for TH) and they can use skills more often because you can recharge....
In the end SH FTW :)
EDIT: also, TRY TO AVOID MANY OVERHITS!!! overhitting a lot of mobs will get you in trouble... SE's need the SP and when you overhit mobs you get more exp but not more sp :p so be smart and balance between exp and sp

Amen to that! If you can't kill the mob with two hurricanes, shadow flare first and finish with hurricane ftw :)

Give the SE a dagger and pair it up with a summoner... All Dark Elves have a good Patk, Summoner can use the lvl 40 summon for max attack and VR should keep it healed indefinately. The SE is then free to assist along with the summoner. You get 1 big DD and two mystic melees which add-up to some good damage, as well as SE buffs and the cubics. Not sure which summoner would be the best though. A Warlock with Kai (reflect dmg just adds to the total attack power of your party and no mana drain on summoner) might be best, but I am partial to demons.
The Nuker/SE combo is nice, but you are limited to weaker mobs = less XP. And if you don't manage your mana perfectly, you will probably spend some time sitting to regain mana.
You certainly have a point,
However in my experience, killing "weaker" mobs as you call it has an advantage. Nuking once or twice makes it allmost impossible for the same mob to attack the nuker directly making it an easy kill. (saves SE mp) killing 2 mobs in 4 shots gives you extra safety aswell, I would allways prefer 2 hitting weaker mobs over 4-5 hitting stronger ones with nuker or to go with fighters, and I for one am pretty good at managing mana :). But I guess taste matters :P (in my experience xp/time ratio is better with Nuker on "weak" mobs then with allmost any party on stronger ones (you quickly need a big party for "fast" kills giving you less exp per kill so often I end up with lower xp/time ratio then with nuker ^^), for nukers vampires in fod during the day rock ~lvl70-77, great exp also the drops aren't bad at all either.
For fighters... I like HS :) (<3 Yeti really :P)
You're quite right about the dagger ;) SE buffs would favor dagger classes and thus also boost SE's dagger ability, I dont know much about Summoner but yeah I'd say its a good option :)
