Elf Classes Started Last reply 63 posts
I've looked at the skills on SWS and have noticed they have no armor mastieries and no weapon skills but get sword/blunt masteries .

So question is are they a fighter hybrid like orc mages are mage hybrids and if so would the pdef casting speed robes be worth using or evasion light armor's? Also how does 2 handed swords or 2 handed blunts do on one?

I know the answers will be go heavy and use duals since everyone in game uses duals. I use a dagger on my OL not the normal dual swords that are so popular on hinde and i love it.

This just an alt i can't decide to make a SWS and use evasion sets with fists just to have something noone else plays or to make a PW since i allready have a 45 lvl AW and use same gear on him as i do my OL.

I'll hardly play him since alts are to help clannies lvl but wondering if anyone ever tried using mith set in c grade for evasion and a haste fist set up or what SA on a 2 handed sword or blunt would be good.
Use heavy armor.

They're a support type fighter, which means they're not really a DD, not a tank, just keep your songs up and help kill/annoy stuff. They're not any kind of a hybrid class..

As for a weapon, 2h swords are good PvE weapons. For PvP 1h sword + shield. Some people use a dagger, it works ok but not as good as an equal sword IMO. Duals are crap and only for fashon, better off using a 2H sword, then you also get extra patk from masteries (doesn't apply to duals).
Heavy, you're considered a knight class, so your heavy armor masteries reduce critical damage.

Use a one or two handed sword.
Jeez, dont use duals. Use 2handi swords. 1Hand weapon masteries do add bonus to 2handed swords also. So you with a 2handi would do more damage than duals. And yes, Heavy Armor. You might not get mastries after 35 but you still will have decent pdef. Your just not a tank, tho once you get your pdef song at 55 and if buffed, you can play as a tank in normal grinding, just not so much in bad situations or raids.

Sws rock, go go go !
Thanks and not sure if SWS or PW still since it's just an alt and won't get much playing time but this info i can use to help my clan member with when she gets to 40 so thanks.
I've tried 2-handed swords, 1-handed swords, duals and daggers on my SwS. By far, the most DPS was with the dagger. Duals were horrible.
Yeah, daggers work well also with your crit rate song. And a bow is good for a back up in pvp (i used alot when i was sws, since your fast, you can kite) and for archer parties, whom will be looking for you for groups.

This is even with the miss rate being higher on daggers than on swords?

Miss rate isn't that bad even with dagger. And especially with focus SA. critical hits make up more than enough for the misses.
I also have +4str +4dex -8con tats.
I can easily tank and keep mobs aggroed on me from other DDs.
You need +STR for a dagger to really pay off over a focus sword (because of lack o fmasteries), and of course a BD in the group. Add more crit damage buffs/jewels, and the better the dagger gets :)

Yes. However, I really don't miss much. Not noticeably more than with a sword. And I really like the crit rate of a focus dagger. Fully buffed (440 crit rate), it's not uncommon for me to get 10+ crits in a row with the dagger.
at 79+ you will want a haste dagger for fast reuse of song of silence as the difference in reuse time between a sword and that is huge

It's really not that big of a difference even when you only have Renewal up.
ren zerk cov bd dances it takes off more then 1min but i guess i wasn't clear here as it's meant as a secundary weapon to get skills, arrest entangle psycho/sword symp elemental/silence song, & songs up fast in pvp while using a drac bow for the actual damage (forgotten blade for close combat unless mages as then the dagger is better due to spell cast interrupt)

anyways its also a matter of personal preferences so w/e works best for yourself ;)

Gotta take into account that Song of Hunter gives a much greater boost to daggers, since it doubles base crit rate.
Hello, I'm new to the server, but I've been playing L2 for years now and have always used SWS. To answer your question, I think two-handed sword is the best weapon for a SWS; at B grade, it's always good trying to get a Great Sword with SA Focus. I also think that SWS Sword/Blunt Mastery should be changed to match the Warriors' Mastery; BD has got Duals Mastery, like Glads, so SWS, since they are the Light Elf warriors, should get equivalent mastery too,
doesn't matter if they have defensive-type songs.
what about evasion armors is that usefull and how about using a 2 handed blunt or fists?
2 handed blunt or fists have higher accuracy but lower crit rate compared to 1 handed/ 2 handed swords. Since most Sws usually go for SA/weapons that give good crit rate, they rarely choose blunt or fists.

Imo, Sws is not an evasion class and with the nerf of song of water (+3 evasion now instead of +10), it's not worth choosing light armors (which give evasion bonuses) over heavy armors (which you have mastery for).

what about evasion armors is that usefull and how about using a 2 handed blunt or fists?

Never, ever, ever, use a blunt or fist, especially after getting Song of Hunter.

Song of hunter gives a 100% boost to your base crit rate. Since fists and blunts give the lowest base crit rate, they are least affected by song of hunter.
SWS seem too screwy to play then as far as weapons go since they only have sword/blunt mastery and according to our up to date lineage 2 website :) they get no weapon skills and nothing for armor after 40 like i've posted before so in reality it's not a very well thought out class it seems, it's almost like it was just thrown together and stuck in game to have a light elf similar to a BD and a human gladiator.

Maybe someone who developed the game will see what i mean and when the next update comes arround they can make SWS better and fix the flaws it has. Only armor masteries are as a knight in d grade. and i know most other classes get the armor masteries even after 2nd class change.

As far as weapon skills go they get zilch after 1st class change so why bother giving them a mastery for swords and blunts if they don't get any skills after 1st class change to go with the masterys , like a lvl higher than what the power strike is maxing at in no grade.

I might just make another dagger since i allready have a AW and i play my OL almost same way. SWS is just too flawed it seems.

Thanks for all the advice hope this helps any new players that plan on playing a SWS for a main. I'm seeing it as a flawed class that was just thrown together.
Eh. If they raised the chance for the symphony skills to work, as well as changed our sword/blunt mastery to be the equivalent of a human warriors sword/blunt mastery, I'd be happy. Considering a BD's dual masteries are the equivalent to a gladiators, it only seems fair.
that's what i said, i think Sws are the warriors of the light elfs, they have to do the quest "test of the duelist", that's the first sign (i think). and the problem about what weapons should a sws use, is because they arent good with any weapon, we are asking in what weapon a sws "suck less"...
sws suck in damage, but tbh that's the problem of all light elve melee

Damage-wise (in pve):
All tanks have more possibility of damage than TK
TH and AW >>> PW, same for the archer classes
and as said before, bd >>> sws

Giving SwS's the same masteries as a warrior wouldn't even get close to changing that.
If you are used to playing daggers/DD classes, you will/might find Sws is a boring class to play because there are only a few songs/skills for you to mess around . Even if you have active weapon skills for Sws, you're not going to use them much (because most of your mp are reserved for songs/dances, and some debuff skills like arrest, engtangle, psycho symphony...).

"Fast in speed, suck in damage" is the nature of all light elves - and of course Sws is included :p. Also, Sws doesn't have weapon masteries that are equivalent to warrior's masteries.

With all that, it seems like Sws is a depressing class to play. Hm, now let's take a look at Sws at different angle. Sws do not need to stick to a certain type of weapon like BDs. They can choose whatever weapons they seem fit with their playstyle. My favourite weapons are dagger, bow, and polearm. Messing around with different setups to maximize your damage/exp and make your toon a unique one is enjoyable (at least for me).

Sws do less damage compared to a BD but it doesn't mean sws level slower than a BD. By doing AOE, I level much faster than my BD friend - even when VR was nerfed and I have less time to play than him.

BD is an offensive support class and Sws is a defensive support class. BD has dual masteries equivalent to Gladiator - which is a DD. Sws has weapon masteries equivalent to tanks (paladin, DA, SK, TK ...). So it doesn't seem so unfair for Sws when he/she doesn't have weapon masteries of a warrior (but this doesn't mean I don't want these masteries xD).

Yes! Sws needs more love from devs but I don't think Sws is a "flawed" class.
Yeah, Sws rock. the offensive buffs of the BD are no good if the BD cant live to make it to the target. On my old nuker, i could kill BD a grade above me before the BD could make it to me. Sws on the other hand were much harder to deal with. Plus Sws have great buffs. And
Try killing a sws with a nuker in CT1, youll see it's much easier than it used to be 'cause the elemental/divine protection buffs have been nerfed. But watev, sws is a good class. It's allround and helps the party. I don't think the problem lies in the sws class, it's more that bd pawn too much in pve.

Also, Sws doesn't have weapon masteries that are equivalent to warrior's masteries.

1 - the sws is not a tank; the tank skills that they have, so do the bladedancers, if BD got mastery like Glads, why sws cannot have a mastery like others warriors (they look cool in 2handed swords :X).?
2 - the sws must choose whatever weapon they please because they suck at using them all. if ncsoft wants to make the sws useful, then give them a warrior's weapon mastery, or sword/blunt for warriors that sould be the best.

everything a sws does, a bd outdoes or do better.
sws may have defensive type songs, but that doesn't make them a tank or a defensive type class. as much as i cry for ncsoft to do something about their weapond mastery (change for warriors sword/blunt), they don't care...
They should make Song of Water do +10 evasion like it used to. God forbid forcing an archer to use skills to kill things.
SWS' rock, you have to play them completely different than a BD, you're not a DD and changing their weapon mastery WILL NOT CHANGE A THING!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!! 20 patk more!! [censored]!!!!!! That won't have any effect at all! OMG! I hit for 3 damage more! HOORAY!!! Drop the mastery whine, please.. What they need is some kind of attack skills, like a fatal strike kind maybe with a debuff like tanks get.

I'm quite happy playing my SWS in PVP, I won't kill much but I'm a royal pain in the butt, can't run from me and I'll stop you in the tracks and annoy you. When I'm chosen as target over archers because I'm bugging some healer, you know you're doing something right.

I hate CT1 for that reason.... All the elemental protection songs were nerfed to hell. I even blew 80 million SP on the E. Prot song as well. =( At least it's somewhat useful in doing quests for HellBound.
Not whining completely about lack of masteries or about the damage they do cuz a light elf is a speed class not a damage class. More lack of skills as far as weapons go.

I was merely stating that they need masteries like all other races and classes manage to get after 40 and i was wondering why they don't have some offense to go with all thier defense set up.

Anyways i deleted my lvl 17 light elf and am staying with my 52 Overlord (most unloved class in game if not with great friends and a clan :)) since he has an offense to go with his defensive set up and also since Overlords were thought out better than just throwing a Sword Singer together and throwing him in game.

Only thing missing is dual tomohawks for my Overlord and a dual blunt mastery
So not even tried an SWS then >.< My point still stands, 20patk(+/-) won't do jack [censored], but would be nice at any rate.. and if they gave them haste passive like THs do as well..
Eh, it's more of a principle matter imo. BDs get it, we don't. 923
No they don't, they get dual masteries :o SWS gets knight sword mastery, deal with it.

(hahahaha)

Anyways, SWS > BD in PVP any day.
Since they get sword blunt masteries wheres the ability to stun at ? No skills for weapons after 40 means why have a weapon mastery after 40 then in my opinion like i have allready said?
Just seems stupid to be a master in something but no skills to proove your a master in it.
Okay let me get this straight. This is more of a SwS and a BD argument ove who is better. I find it simple. Their both supportive classes. They both have sucky armor, neither are supose to tank. Their both at good decent dmg. BD's hit harder but barely crt (experience with my lv 50+ BD). I've seen SwS crit WAY more than I have ever done and did more dmg over time.

So the fact i'm trying to point out is that SwS is a good dps class. Though they are not ment to be dps their buffers. The main point for them in groups is to help kill some and buff the group. They are wonderful for power because of all their crit+ songs which is awsome! Their increase in def is amazing to because i love it when they increase the def on tanks in groups for my EE to handle the healing easier.

So I think SwS are just as great as BD, they both have seperate ways of play style.
SWS' are better, especially in PVP.. BDs are PVE masters though :P
Just started a SwS myself. Pretty solid on my weapon choices and armor, but been struggling with which direction to go on tats. Im really looking for advice from PvP Swordsingers..what works for you guys.

Right now Im thinking +2 Con -2 Str, +4 Dex -4 Str. Since LE are pretty weak I figured capitalize on speed, crit rate, atk spd and the con for a little better stun resist and survivability. Anyhoo...lemme know what you think.

I hope you plan on grouping a lot that's a big - on PVE with that setup

That dye setup seems a bit silly tbh, no offense. The theory about taking advantage of your class' strong points doesn't apply imo to DEX on a heavy armor class.
Basicaly there are 4 good dye setups for a sws:

1. Balanced1 +5 STR -5 CON
2. Balanced2 +5 STR -5 DEX
3. OrcDex +5 STR -5 DEX +4 CON -4 DEX (slow elf alert ) this one is a bit bad when you're fighting high evasion classes/mobs, but results in good p.attack and good hp.
4. Max dmg +5STR +4DEX -9CON

I think anything else is a bad dye setup.
For you, since you just started your sws, I would advise you to go #1 or #4, concentrate on PvE, having max dmg is great for pvp too.

P.S. You don't need too much surviavabilty on a sws. :p
Not really looking to add my tats till my pve game requires more parties. I usually duo with a prophet or run in a party as is, so not really sweating my pve game. Thats old hat.

Looking for guidance from SwS who currently PvP regularly and what sort of tats they have. I'll most likely be attached to my clans archer party if that helps some. :D

Ket~
take option 1 then and get 5+ STR 5- CON
If you're attached to the Archer party, you won't need tats. If you're still toting a melee weapon, you're probably never going to need it in PvP (the archers are going to kill anyone before you're halfway there).

If you're a Bow-singer, go +STR/+DEX, but the Cheap Shot SA is a requirement.
My setup is currently +3 CON -3 STR.. no armor atm, but used to have Tallum heavy which works out fine. I got a decent HP pool, swing and run fast while still being able to bother soft targets enough to get noticed and can take a decent beating from archers.

Until you're nearing end game (75+ for an SWS to solo) and is still PvE'ing until then, use +4 STR -4CON. Adding DEX is a waste IMO, it adds so little of everything. STR = DAMAGE, that's all that counts in PvE. Also nice with a bow.

Tip: Try out AoE with a pole, 4-6 mobs should be fine.

No they don't, they get dual masteries :o SWS gets knight sword mastery, deal with it.

They get unnerfed dual masterieds. UNFAIR!!

I WANT MY 21p.atk.

Now, give it to me. Or I shall start my QQ fest.

Or am I bluffing? Maybe...
BD get unnerfed Dual masteries because they require Duals to Dance. Swordsingers have standard Sword/Blunt Mastery, but can sing with any weapon-type equipped. Sword, Blunt, Dagger, Bow, Two-handed... doesn't matter.

The BD is a PVE monster, though, but that is always true with L2 where STR and Damage output means more than attack speed, defense or staying power... especially with the Dance of Vampire (which is leagues better than the [censored] Song of Life) that enhances their already high melee damage.

There's a problem with this deduction. We don't get the benefits from the mastery if we don't use a sword/blunt, therefore, imo, nullifying that point.
I think Yatta7 is right, this topic is only because sws isnt good with any weapon, they should have sword/blunt mastery for warriors.
imo they should add 2hander masteries to sws, running round at stupid speed holding a weapon the same size as you looks funky.

This is why I carry a Dragonslayer. It's awesome.
I agree with you all, and thks for the tips, all fo you, are giving to me...as i read before, being an sws, its a way of life, helping others with our songs, making others stronger and our selfs too...cause of my schedule, and little time, i do most of the time, solo...and its really hard, even with my persistence...i reached lvl 55, and for me, the real problem of sws is no skill of attack...that makes sws totally dependent of using soulshots as way to reach a better lvl!

I agree that having not one specific weapon as the perfect weapon doesnt help too...i use 2 handed, and i love it...

We are party animals, but like someone as said, the only thing they want from us, when a bd is on, is our song of hunter...

We really need, as an update, is a stun skill!in some other post i read that we are SWORDsingers, and the new stun skill, should be with the use of 2 handed swords!

Its great to see some sws...i once write that sws are desappearing cause the low attack and fighting skills...we give me some hope to persist even more!
I'm 59 now and loving SWS, i still haven't decided what to go weapon wise for A grade but defiantly going tallum heavy, i'm most likely going to get a DSlayer +++ then atleast i can use it on my destroyer when he hits A.

I have a 62 SwordSinger. She only gets used on Raids, Seiges and PvP. Why? The only skills to be excited about at at level 66 and 76+. Call me dumb but I don't feel like leveling for months with absolutely nothing to look forward to while doing it. Don't get me wrong she is fun to use _sometimes_, and especially in PvP, but she is horrible to level - I prefer my tank, and that says something.
Hello,
Swordsingers are a special class and sometimes its really hard to level them. Its because they are pure party chars, have only their songs (the other skills aren't really usefull at all) and most of their songs are designed for PvP.
As Equipment I would recommend a 1 handed sword and a shield, with the Dex and Shield Mastery lvl 2 your shield defense rate is still good and it helps alot.
Tallum hvy with a DLE w/crit + shield. This will give you the best possible dmg output per sec until S grade, unless you can afford a top A sirra's blade, in that case go with it & haste as an SA. Don't bother with a dagger or duals (even if they are oe'd, you could also use a oe'd 1h sword... so theres no point in argument there), you will actually do LESS dmg over time than with the setup I suggest.

You can use a 2h if you like, but you will be doing slightly less dmg per sec, even if you have more p.atk. Your slower atk speed offsets the benefit. Plus you loose the defensive ability of a shield.
The good thing of a 2 handed sword is, that you save Soulshots due to the slower attack speed.
But by now the shields get quite good boni that you can use full with the shield mastery a swordsingwer gets.

I also got advices von much ppl that say the best weapon for a Swordsinger is a dagger. I don't think so, it has lower Accuracy and lower P.Atk for higher Atk Speed and higher Crit Rate.
But you don't have the passives a dagger gets and the lower P.Atk and Accuracy matters a lot.

P.S: I don't know how big the influence is, but your Atk. Speed influences your songs. I just experienced a faster singspeed but sometimes have the feeling that it also influences the song cost but never was able to test and confirm that.
I think, 1handed+Shield are better for solo, 2h for groups.
Daggers/Bows/etc, I think people are saying that sws're good with these weapons because they are not as good as they should be with swords, they are poor with all weapons...
btw, sws + 2h sword = rulez \m/
If i go SWS on my EK ,i restarted one again cuz i finally got half plate top and bottoms , what pet is good to lvl with them so you are kinda similar to a DA but as a SWS?
Wolfs get great Patk higher in lvls. They will suck your xp for a while but will be a great extra DD when you are high lvl.
My SwS love her doggie.
Gets lots of comments in town too. ^^

M
I agree i had a play with a mates wolf last night, the songs combined with there base stats makes them a very good DD partner. I can actually solo now if i have to, although i hate it and prefer parties.
