Alyra, why the GMs protect the spammers?

Alyra, which is the reason the gamemasters protect the spammer who spams the wisper channel with his ads for selling adena?
For 10 days I send every day 2 pettions to ban the name of his site from appearing in the chat but it still proceeds to spam the chat.
The only reason I see for this is it is you, the gamemasters which are actually selling the adena through the advertised site.
Top whom we must complain to force the gamemasters to do the job they are payed for and to stop ptotecting the spammer?
are you sure that its the same name?

usually it is just a different variation of the same name.

like, AA000448557

etc

very easy to create a new name that looks like the others.
I don't think Handel meant that it's the same character name, but the same URL that's being advertised.
I don't think it would solve anything to censor it. They'd just start circumventing the chat filter like the players do when they want to use a naughty word. But it would be nice to see some sort of reaction from NC, and censoring the name of the site would send a positive signal to the players.
Something you might not have noticed, but the name of the url we are given has changed in recent weeks.

It resolves to the same company and the same website, but the address we are given now is different from the address we were given a few weeks ago.

While both still appear to work, I would speculate that something IS being done behind the scenes. One does not simply switch domain names in advertising for no reason.
I don't even read the PMs anymore. I recognise the size and shape of the message, and block the sender instantly.

That's 60 names that can be blocked right? What will you do after you've maxed out your block list?
/allblock
to make RL money of course duh!
Its easy, click " then press Home button, then Delete button and type /block
or I just reply with some [censored]/fu/or curses in my lang, not that they care really.

That's not a solution to an annoying problem though, now is it?

I love the idiotic conspiracy theorists. Here's some food for thought, perhaps the reason nothing has been done in the past 10 days is because NCSoft still hasn't figured out a way to solve the problem, but I'm sure your well thought out conclusion to the matter is more sensible.
I like conspiracy theory threads, too. :)

Hey, just cuz they're "idiotic conspiracy theorists" doesn't mean they ain't right!!!

ill give you a other one... after being in game for so long with our nice automated friends i refuse to belive in the theory that GMs have nothing to do with tham, that they dont run and profit from tham ...

technically speaking, what you have there is called a "Hypothesis"

now go go and work on the next leap on this and turn it into a "Theory". :p

No cuz goldsellers make new toons all the time to pm you and I just have to block them again n again, mainly cuz they annoy me when i wanna pm my friends.
Only ncsoft can give a permanent solution but obviously they dont and none rly cares anymore, at least I dont care anymore. GMs at private servers can ban bots at the very first mins they log, cant ncsoft gms do it or it costs?

As for the OP,
Wht do u expect Alyra to say?
I can tell you what I think might be said.

"Our legal department is currently investigating possible action regarding the site in question."

God knows that's what I'd say, were I Alyra. If I had a whole legal department at my disposal.
The easiest and quickest way to solve this problem is sensor their website so it will appear as -_-. With some creative string filtering you can filter it out with spaces removed so they cannot escape the filters (requires a novice programmer). I have suggested this to Spam in the past. Hopefully NCsoft will do this and just keep adding every new domain name they register to the sensored word list.
Some other ways of stopping them:

If anyone sends a large amount of PMs in a short amount of time (especially from low level chars) to a wide number of people stop them from sending any and alert a GM.

Or perhaps a bayesian filter could be used (similar to e-mail spam filters).
The name of the player cannot be blocked because the sucker uses 3-4 new names every day. But it is matter of seconds to block the name of the site. And for some reason there is no reaction at all. Don't know which is the reason, but my grandma used to say "Nothing is done without reason"
In general, there is a chat filter in place that should prevent them from reaching more than maybe 20 people at a time.

Of course, since they're not using the official client and the thing is client side indeed, that's no problem for them at all.

What I said long ago still holds true: Filter for anyone who is sending more things than the official chat mute would allow, instaban. No questions asked.
they should make all URL say something crazy and stupid instead of what was inputted for chat. instead fo the phrase we have all come to know, "blank blank blank ... buy with confidence" it could be replaced with "lima beans are crazy good!" or some other silly phrases.
If they can detect the message, they should simply ban the people in question. No need to get playful.

"Our legal department is currently investigating possible action regarding the site in question."

"legal department"

hahaha. That is funny on all kinds of levels.
I've addressed this a few times already, so I'll reiterate what I've stated before. We do ban the meddlesome spammers on a regular basis, but we are also working on more long-term solutions to disable this sort of abuse on a more wide-scale basis, such as further changes to trial accounts and/or even the chat system in general.

I've done what I can to keep them off our forums, and thus far have been happy with the results (albeit it's created more work for me, but it's worth it). That was something we could implement immediately, though. Any changes we have to make to the actual game client itself or how trial accounts work, do take time. We are dedicated to solving this issue as quickly and thoroughly as possible.
