I have one of me sieging the Ivory Tower. Not very riveting, just me yelling at the gatekeeper for about an hour and then wandering around one of the floors muttering to myself about "too much thread" and "where's the salt" with an occasional "I am the Emperor, the tower has fallen".
But entertaining on a "certain" level, I can assure you. :)
Can you convert to a l2r format from another format using Vegas for example?
Only if you make e.g. a fraps of the replay while watching it. The l2r file does not contain any video data, it just tells the game client what to show on the screen.

god dang ... my goverment blows >< i want clinton ^^
sigh. So do I.
No thank you.
I think Clinton is one of the worst choices we have at the moment...although to be entirely honest I think all of them are currently about as useful as gills on an cat.
Canadian residents will be required to answer an additional mathematical question in order to claim their prizes
Oh man this was too funny when I read it.
Well that's cause Canadians think that 2+2 = 5 :p
Can't really trust a Canuck these days, hence this question is important!
I have my old rusty-dusty Basic Math books somewhere if any of ya wanna borrow it.... just pm me with details such as Paypall info, name, address, etc :p

This contest makes no sense... we can't edit L2R files (as far as i'm aware) so how can we really put together an epic siege video? As we can't edit the file, we can't choose what is shown, so will just have to run around a siege, hope no one kills you and pray that you get footage ><
I don't usually compain about things, but I just don't understand this!
From what they have said in the competition rules (e.g. no use of copyrighted material), it sounds like there is a way to edit L2R files... is there? Oo
I think people are probably thinking about this the wrong way.
they are not looking for a "movie".
What people are envisioning is that they want essentially "movie" footage that builds to exciting climaxes with some thread that hints at a narrative.
However, if you think about it, if they are going to be using this for promos they can't possibly use it in L2R format because only players would be able to see it.
What they are looking for are short bits of siege or pvp footage that "THEY" can then cut, format, splice, etc to make some sort of exciting presentation. They the can say that this footage was captured in L2R format and that players can do this too and make their own movies after the fact. Or something to this effect.
So the person who wants to enter this contest just has to make their way into some exciting fights. Most likely it will be the action along with the place that frames the action that will determine how valuable the footage is.
I'd like to know, since replays are only good for the chronicle they were made in, if they have older clients around (like I do) to view ones in interlude, C5, etc. None of my neat stuff is in ct1 ><

So what your saying is ....Fraps it?
lol, no don't fraps it. :p
Thinks of your replays like a rough cut diamond. You have picked the area (well you have picked the area to record) and the fight.
However, since a replay can be seen in a variety of different ways by moving the camera, it's my guess that they will take the winning replay(s) and move the camera around to find the shots they prefer. They in turn will record it and use it as promo material. So their choice of shots is like the cutting of the diamond. finding the best angles, zooms, etc. At least according to their needs and aesthetic.
L2R files are never very incentive... you can fraps something nice from a really boring replay... :/
I guess they may want some matter to put in gameplay videos that reflects what happens ingame as opposed to the previous videos of Siege in C-Grade or the recent videos of parties in full Dynasty. Something that looks anonymous and can be understood by any L2 player...
But I feel uninspired...
Can you convert to a l2r format from another format using Vegas for example?
Not for this particular contest, but we very well may have a movie contest later this year that would allow for more movie formats and broader creative freedom. :)
Your rules aren't specific, but does it have to be CT1 replays or do you guys have older clients lying around.
I'll add that to the contest info/rules. We do ask that the L2R movies are taken using the CT1 client. I'm sorry if that inconveniences anyone. Do keep in mind that you're not required to partake in the siege, just capture it.
what is the largest t-shirt size!
XXL

We're looking for L2R movies that show some good siege action. You're correct that it doesn't take any editing or formatting, per se; the content that is captured will be the main judgment factor. We will be editing the winning L2R movies ourselves, but we would like to showcase our community and give credit to the winners in the process.
i think they don't allow us to send rendered video is the problem of its quality. not just everyone can encode a movie and keep balance of size and video quality. also when they have L2R they can get raw (never coded) video, so it's better quality they can have... don't say your movies are bad quality. i believe you, they are good for that codec. look at any L2R and feel the difference, then look and some offical movies and feel the difference one more.
the 2nd problem is different resolutions. some play even 800x600 as their obsolete computers cant run lineage2 with better setting. but others play 1280x1024 and even more. it's hard to mix so different movies. there are some way but it really really hard.
the 3rd problem is that your movies have game's panels, windows, chat, fixed field of view etc. if they have L2R, they would suppress the interface and use better scenes. keep in mind that you get record of what was played, but they announced what they need. they need very showy fragments instead of your 120% ownage...
I believe the contest should be extended to the 10th as the deadline. Currently with the dates, some servers will have gone through 2 castle siege cycles and others only have gone through 1. Extending the contest by 3 days allow for both sets of servers to go through a total of 2 castle siege cycles.
epic =/= teh win.
they seek for great action to make a presentation movie.
mo matter if you get it from a castle siege or from a fortress siege or maybe from very very awesome mass pvp.
The very best footage would probably be staged at a castle not even in a siege anyway, since the chances of getting awesome random footage is proabably pretty low.
Gratz to the winners.
Anyway it was just as i expected boring sieges.
Yes a lot ppl mostly mages and archers doin PvP.
The screen is full of orc buffs and some heals and ppl spamming cp pots.
OK sieges are always like this nothing special.
I rather wanted to see some more action. Siege Golems, swoop cannons, wild hog cannon.
Even if its not the typical siege in game would have been much more fun to watch.
The fortess battle was something new for me to watch then again nothing to special about.
Well i cant blame the contest winners for it. Its like that and wont change untill the classes are more balanced.
Again tnx for the contest winners to take time recording and gratz for winning.
