DA lvling with pole?

Human Classes Started Last reply 15 posts
Is this possible or worth it at all? I'm only lvl 34 on my Human Knight and soloing so far has been slow, but expected. I see SK's doing it so i'm curious iif it is as effective, and I would only have an EE for heals, no boxed SE.
I didn't try the polearm in the 30's.

All toons can use all weapons. The human knight has zero pole skills and the polearm is an inaccurate weapon. Still with buffs and the right mobs it might work well.

One reason low polearms work so well as an aoe weapon with toons that have masteries is that the toons have skills that make it hit harder--which kills more, faster.

You can try it and basically if you get the stuffing knocked out of you while taking 4 minutes to kill 4 mobs (because of low power, high miss rate, zero crits), then you can probably infer you would have killed those 4 mobs faster with the sword and its crits that you do have masteries for.

that's what weapon/armor choice really comes down to--efficiency.
I don't 'think' the polearm would be efficient for a human knight at 34 but it might be so you could always give it a try and test it out I suppose.
My gut tells me you'll kill fastest with a sword at that level all things being equal.

1st lesson of poling, never do it without vr

2nd lesson of poling always have good buffs

3rd lesson of poling to increase profiency, bring a friend
Thank you for the advise, and saving me a hard learned lesson ;)

you welcome :D good night.

VR has been nerfed so much that you dont even notice the difference anymore, hitting 40 mobs with a pole yields me 200 hp a swing with vr 4, dance of vamp, and zakens, at level 79

with a healer that is barely noticable, nevermind with only vr 4

I was just poling a few days ago on my mid 30's dwarf. Pulling 8 mobs at a time was really easy, as long as I had VR. Sure if you trying to pull 40 mobs I could see you point, but I don't know anyone who does that any more. It is still viable though at lower lvls to pull 12-16 comfortably with a healer and VR is still a must.

Just yesterday though I tried on my lvl 46 SwS, and without masteries, the arc is much smaller. I could barely stack the mobs to get them all. I would definately recommend bringing a friend with another pole if you are gonna try it though.
I got a Temple Knight 2nd sub on my alt and I levelled it to A grade in catacombs with polearms.
I felt it was easier then on my warlord, the tank has more pdef and if things do go wrong still have UD. Pulling in catas is very easy. just use hate skill on the none agro mobs.
I pulled 2 rooms at once (16 mobs) and even without masteries its not that hard to hit them all at once.
You just gotta learn which corners work and which don't.

90 degree corners of full walls always seems to mess up the pack of the mobs (same problem on my warlord) and each time theres several who stand out of the way and don't get hit.
90% corners on not full walls (see screenshot, theres a 90 degree corner but no actual wall behind you) allways works perfect for me, I hit all mobs even with my small arc (i didnt even use wideblow SA but crit stun.

I did have above average buffs but definitly until A grade this works on single rooms with just SE buffs.

Where to stand to hit all mobs : not in a real corner, but take a corner where there is no wall behind you.
Why ? when you run to it, you can click behind the corner and you will run until cant go any further and you'll be perfectly placed. In real high wall corners you gotta move in by clicking on the ground and due to small lags and what not you wont actually stand where you clicked and mobs will not nicely line up.

you see i went to apostate when mobs were still yellow, the better your buffs, the more risk you can take.

your DA should do more damage then a TK btw
ghala... u seen your buffs ??? not al ppl hunt with COV... trust me :) With COV i can pull 3 rooms of stuning lilims... with COV any class in heavy armor can AoE solo ;) with yours buffs PP can pole ^^
above average ;) maybe alot above.
lol above average

hunting with buffs, CoV, dances, songs, cat buff, that's a Mass PvP setup lol
your not solo if you are getting buffed with cov..
solo= 1 char with no box's idk why people think that just cuase they have 3-4 box'd toons they are solo..
and by the looks of that image he not only had full dc/bd/sws but also had a bishop to heal..
basicly that's a full party of high lvl support to plvl a noob so ya any class can aoe with that set up but the # of players that have access to that atleast on my server is very low, hell i'm 75 in a clan with a castle and we don't even have a single player in the alliance with COV. let alone one that is willing to plvl someone out of party.

Crap that means I need take back everything I said about soloing
lol
well don't get me wrong though i box 2-3 support class's myself but i don't consider it soloing,
more like soloing with box's lol

there are 3 diff ways to solo
1 solo no buffs other then self buffs or scrolls gsap ghps
2 solo ch/castle buffs only
3 solo with 2box buffer(s) (support)

True solo is either 1 or 2
I tend to agree. Solo means one. Not one plus a buff pet (or any other oop toon tagging along).

When I'm solo I generally don't even have buffs running (except my own).

When you say a "solo human fighter" it would seem to me to mean no other toon supporting and most likely only with the normal newbie buffs and self buffs.
My caveat would be that pulling up any summon after 40 is still solo--so I guess a pet would still be a solo toon in my mind.

That's how I see it anyway.

And a solo human knight using a +++glaive isn't going to aoe very effeciently I wouldn't think.
I'll still bet it's nearly as fast to find a collection of green mobs and chew them up with a single sword and shield--particularly when you start talking about additional costs of leveling like heal pots.

When newer players ask questions like these we don't do them any favors to say "yeah, SURE you can aoe a lvl 28 human knight--just get him 3 buff pets, clan hall buffs, out of party nukers, and an augmented +9 A-grade polearm and he'll be fine!"

"Most" players don't have access to most of that--which is why I don't see those answers as helpful.
