I am just returning to the game from a very long break and i started a human fighter i was thinking about going pally however i cant find any information about how they do in PVE and PVP i love PvP but PvE is a big part of the game so i wanted a fighter that could stand up in PvE very well i have a lvl 52 WC that i have turned into a buffer. Should i be going to a differnt class for what i am wanting or would pally be great for both ? I will be spending a lot of time solo but i just got a few of my friends to get on the game and they are trying the new race so i might have a few people to play with once in a while. Any help on a great tank + pvp tank would b e a great help. Thanks
Pally has certainly started to come into its own in the last few chronicles, yay dev love. Soloing any tank is painful, however the DA has it a little easier, paladins are pretty restricted to only hunting Undead areas effectivley(thankfully there is a good ammount). Get a focus sword, some DD based armor, boost your str and or dex, and go to town. Since you already have a WC stick with that, if yourmaking a new buffer id say get a PP so you have Holy Weapon(since it now stacks with toggle) and zerk.
+1 on the Wolf, have mine to lvl 49 now. I just park it near me and barely miss the XP! Just started DA for my Subclass... so we will see! Kind of cool seeing a Dark Elf as a DA =)
Paladin Rox also at pvp. many stuns if hp<30% go up angelic icon root and ultimate defense. If you enemy still alive root/stun again after ulti down heal by holly bleasing and put your sword i to a corpse of U enemy because nobody can survive pvp with good playing paladin. ;)

do it ;)
Holy Blessing is horrible. Too slow, too much MP, doesn't heal for crap, etc etc. Maybe in PvE it might be sorta maybe ok. Maybe.
yea but if U have root/stunned enemy U can heal and easy finish.
Remember - If U >Need< u can self-heal not always ;)
Pally is not a DA who need cat to kill anybody and need stadium of Cardinals for survive ;)

Wow, do you really believe that about DA's? :confused:
Man I love my Dark Avenger. One thing though to keep in the back of your head, is that DA and Paly are DEFENSIVE fighters, and fight that way. Of course I always go against the grain, so my DA has +4 str -4con tats and a +5 DLE w/crit dmg, and a aug that gives passive skill of increasing crit rate. So basically what I'm saying is, is that DA's and Pally's are very flexible, depending on how you want to use them.
People told me not to go the atk route to stick with the +++ con tats and -str. But do whatever works best for you, personally I get a bunch of extra hp off my armor so I don't need the con...or at least thats my thinking, and me and my panther pfffttt no better time
And you don't have to lvl him or rez his [censored] like you would a pally wolf. If you think your gonna be partying alot, go with the paly cuz of their party defense skills, if you decide your gonna be soloing go da.... all just my advice lol. Don't take it to heart, best suggestion is to just play the type of character you'll think you'll have the most fun with.
Look ahead and see what skills you get and when under "races and skills" on this site. Choose which one you think you're gonna be happiest during the long grinding hours once you get into your 60's and 70's...thats what I did.
RedDuke is a dark avenger, so not able to use touch of life. Michael is a 79 PK on lionna so has touch of life, artbunt was 78 and had tol, LeGolliath is 77 or 78 PK i think so my not have ToL, and I am 77, so there are your high level ToLers on lionna. I dont know of any Temple knights that have gotten up that high either, or very many Temple knights at all for that matter.

DA obviously have the advantage to my eyes in PvP or PvE due to the Panther, but advanatges are there to be overcome, and sometimes are. Won't ever change from Paladin though in a choice between them.
Don't really need a pet tbh. I leveled mostly with my clan, so soloing really isn't an issue. If I feel like soloing, just having a 2 boxed buffer is fine. We're not just limited to undead mobs, though it's easier with them. I solo on Isle of Prayer fine. PVP-wise unless I get the unlucky lethal, I rarely die. AI and ToL in mass pvp is normally last ditch effort if I'm the only one standing. Even at that point, it's usually enough to take out one or two then make the enemies run away.
Pally vs DA in Oly with equal gear, I'd have to say Pally will come out on top most times, just because of the survivability.
An end-game pally isn't anything to scoff at, it's just a long hard road to get there. Well worth it IMO.
Karigan, what gear do you have. Because my Paly dies alot. 7k hp 3k cp and its about 15 secs of running to the bad guy and dropping at their feet. WITH cp pots flying. In mass pvp. im the last to die cause Im no threat to anyone. Stuns are good. Roots help others to kill a target and Tribunal annoys daggers and archers. But the tiny bit of damage i put out doesnt even bother healers. Ive even gone into a mass of targets, UD Hate aura , and lasted 5 seconds. Granted Im not one of the uber kids , and never will be, But in pvp, Im the [censored]. Spamming hate was fun, but that changed. And run speed is so sad that the pvp is over before im in range to hate/root/tickle anyone. Ive stuck with the paly cause its my 1st . And because its a rare toon.
So , help me change my opinion .
Well, I've been a paladin since prelude. I'm in IC, forgotten blade with focus, also a drac bow w/ focus. I'm sittin' on full boss jewels (most of which is the clan's, perks of being clan leader). 3 UD's at 79 makes me last quite a while. There's been sieges where I've rushed up to a flag, pop UD with half a clan whacking on me and taken the flag down. Moved to the next flag, pop vengeance and repeat. We're like mini-raidbosses, although I do agree that our damage output is a problem. This is why every penny(adena) is important to work toward epics and gearing yourself up to do some damage. Something to keep in mind is that a tank is only as good as the people he/she is tanking for. Pty UD is useless if the pty us spread out of range, it's also useless if the party is rushing to their deaths and taking too much damage. To that end, my clan helped me out a lot when tanks weren't needed for parties. You gotta have people you can count on and you get to keep em alive.
I was hoping for a better answer than epics and top gear. I totally agree on your last line tho....and i hope my clan reads this thread..................
hehe Before the epics and top gear, I was in NM and damascus :p Same deal, just died a few more times. You just gotta be flexible. If the situation calls for it, pull on a health weapon instead of trying to do damage. Sacrificing to keep your primary dd's and healers alive goes a long way in mass pvp. I actually have a lot of fun preventing enemies from running away with stun or root so that others can kill them.
It's funny how tanks have high mdef, slow, stun, root, and will get owned by mages.
but then, nukes hit haaaard, slow never lands, root lands less agains't mages and is over quick, stun is rare due to your lack of speed, you get slept it's over.
TK's have a much better chance of winning but... I've met like 3 TK's all low levels
Both pally and avenger are good classes in their own right. Both hard to level yes given no attack skills. ;)
And whats all this about Touch of Life...Touch of Death is better in my opinion ;) Love having a cancel and also a way of taking down zariache hehe.
Love my toon was first I rolled never wanted a different one. Never played a pally but I'm sure they are good too. Look at the skills and then pick, is what I did - you'll pick what suits what you wanna do more. Take everyone elses opinion with a pinch of salt.

Glad to read that, because I know for sure I'll never have the kind of adena to throw away on epics... Hard enough just getting a SA on a mid A weapon and taking it to +3 lol...

Um... yea they have m def passives and m def self buff + UD which takes m def up like frenzy yet it doesn't matter if you can cut down the damage if you can't touch your enemy

they have m def passives - like all other classes
and m def self buff - same as magic barrier buff and not cummlative
UD which takes m def up - well thats UD for ya
uhm... now thats utterly wrong, not all other classes have m.def passives, actually there's quite alot of classes without m.def passives. Human warriorclasses (gladdie and WL) don't for example. I've yet to see m.def passive on any of my dorfs, lol. Neither destro nor Tyrant gets it either, tyrants do get m.def from one of their totems though but, hey, thats not a passive, thats an active skill :) I took a look into some of the archers too (didn't look at all archers mind you) and they dont have m.def passives either.
So yeah, m.def passives are not for everyone to recieve
Nitpick more, ok so not everyone does. Just mages, kamael, elves, dark elves, all have as good mdef as a tank... (??) lol
My point is tanks arent designed to be good mdef like they are pdef. The circle of doom involving tanks is tank > archer > mage > tank, hence passives/selfbuff/whatever, we still suck against nukes.
But I agree tanks shud have better mdef, and the attack vs defense balance should be better, with range also taken into account.
With DA passives (ooo), self buff (non cumlative ooo), and equal equipped - a nuker will have more mdef than DA. Plus will have awesome range and high damage. Just not a UD, and perhaps 1k cp/hp less.
My Paladin is stopped at 41 and I think she'll remain like that for a long while. But I wouldn't choose DA either.
But the reason of my post is only that I've been reading some people saying "Oh get a black wolf and level with it". Or "This or that class is easy to solo with a wolf".
You should ALSO be informing people that a wolf is only that good when you can afford the 150m in gear for it. That IS major information that can mislead someone new into thinking that "oh, I'll be fine if I get a wolf", level it till 55, and then realize it'll be a while till they can afford the gear for it.
Wanna give information, give the FULL information.
The P attack on Great wolf is so nice that you can give it cheapest weapon and no Armor and it's still very useful to a paladin. It still does decent damage with cheapest weapon and you have hate to not worry about not having armor on the wolf.
dont kid the lady, ashley. the low level wolfs without at least 5 m extra spent on gear for it, plus shots PLUS oop buffs is the only way youll get decent killspeed out of the wolf. makes a great leech though.
Hummmm i kinda agree with both of you.
I leveled a Wolf till 30 i think. it had the best armor Adena could buy, Mithril i think, and with full pp buffs (lvl52) it was a 2 shot. I tried to keep it out of the way but couldn't.
The best spot was sitting in the hall of a Nec or Cata.
Hate is great. It does keep the mobs on the Pally. the problem is if the wolf is not in you los and a aggro mob spawns beside it.....then its curtains.
I now box a TH with my Pally....works great and eats a whole lot less :-P
That's sad then.
My wolf was always at my side hutting with me on my WC all the way to lvl 72. mind you this is before the update were wolf had to fight for XP. no great wolf no great wolf gear. and I still took him to 72 by my side hunting at catta and WOA killing Angles no Hate.
you guys can't do it with hate then good thing they change it so anyone can lvl wolfs now ><
With Hate its easier to get the aggro if the you have the wolf fighting beside you (as you did) in my case the wolf was on autofollow and didn't attack....and was kinda behind me. If i saw a spawn i would hate it but if i didn't it usually got my wolf before i saw it.
Also i didn't use Brezz (after i used up the first bunch i bought) so i kept taking 8%
In hind sight i guess i should have had it attack.... but i really don't need one and its just another money pit.
Here is some info to compare wolf and panther :
Lvl 72 wolf without buffs 150+ mill of gear (top)
Patk=1742 Atk spd= 304
Pdef= 520 Mdef=682
Acc=112 Evas=107
Crit=88 Spd 187
As for Panther lvl 76 (has 4 lvls on fenrir)
Patk= 1775 Atk spd= 278
Pdef= 532 Mdef= 478
Acc= 120 Evas= 115
Crit= 44 Spd= 165
IMO panther I use for pvp and fenrir for pve <3 both.
I raid alot whenever i get the chance to and personally from a raiders point of view rather than a tank i think the difference is rather minimal between the DA and Pally tanks. They're both excellent tanks for Raids. If the choice presents itself though i think i would lean more towards the pally. Just cause back on hinde we had the best **** pally on the server in our ally ^^
DA has panther which helps a lot in pve. But without it they both suck at DD. However, the new vanguard stance transformation allows tanks (PA, DA, TK and SK) to hit pretty much harder making them very easy to lvl up solo.
I'm planning to sub a tank to help my clan with RBs and Forts. My plan was to go with a DA - and I'd hoped to use duals from my BD alt toon while in Vanguard.
I thought DAs used duals rather than 2H Swords. But I see on the lineage2 official site it says:
A real noobish question here ^^ I recently (yesterday) class changed to Knight, and it's nice. And I was thinking of going DA, but after reading this im not sure anymore (**** u ^^).
So my question is, which class is to prefer when playing in a party, the DA/HK or the Paladin/PK?
Ok, I think I will :)
But u said to me in my own thread to go with DA, so I'm a bit confused ^^
hehe :P
I said DA before because after trying both I found DA more fun Just becasue of the Panther but after taking with others I agree it's better 2 go with Paladin and just get a Pet ;)
