Just wondering if there is a better way of enchanceing weapons and armor with out them just going boom. I tried three tiems last night on a weapon got it to five on each one and they blew up. Any information yall could give would be great.
Thanks
There are several theories about overenchanting, but none are proven. Truthfully (and according to NC Soft) any enchant of a weapon past +3 is a 66% success rate. There is no PROVEN way to get it to always work.
Armor is actually a bit less past its safe point.
Some methods include blowing something else up before doing the enchant you want (although I have seen this fail), or enchanting in a church (although this also fails). There really isnt a way to improve your chances outside of getting Blessed enchant scrolls, and even those don't actually improve chances, they just mean you will go back to +0 if you fail instead of blowing up the weapon.
walk up and down constantly spamming

untill you get chatban, click your scroll then before putting it on your weapon hit a guard and then re-click the scroll and apply it to your weapon. Usually works for me.
I always like to pick a spot with little to no people so there isn't any lag. Also, never enchant twice in a row from +4 and up. The more you enchant the greater risk it is of blowing up for me usually. For those who sit and click away from +0 to +9 in one sitting, good luck but it always poofs for me. :)
My OE success rate is about 95% so what you should do is give your weapon and enchant scrolls to me and then trust me to successfully OE and give them back.
Well, perhaps my OE success rate isn't 95% but that doesn't mean that MY success rate with this method isn't excellent.
***note this is a joke don't give your gear to anyone***

Yeah, as others said, it is random. It actually is supposed to be random though sometimes the randomness is at times odd.
Mage weapons seem to have an easier time (seemingly) of blowing.
I've tried the chrurch thing and for a while it actually worked. So I thought that there was some merit to it. However, I then blew my +5 SOM in a church and succeded in blowing two more SOMs going to +4.
I do have a +8 C grade 2 hander (can't remember what that is called but it is the lowest C grade 2 hander. That made me laugh as the one weapon where I am very successful is some low grade thing that I'm going to outgrow as soon as my sub gets to B grade.
Interesting enough, I went through 150 or so D grade enchants in the attempt to get a D grade undershirt to +7. I also went through several D grade undershirts as well (of course)
I got 3 to +6 and kept only one as I was trying to get the other two to +7.
One of my methods is to go train a 9-man bot party. If they all go down in 1 train then I usually get a successful OE.
I only get them in one train if every room isn't taken, other than that I have to rinse and repeat till the healer(s) runs out of mp then they drop like dominoes, also I love training aoe stun mobs
It's why you keep trying. When you get the whole 9-man team down in one hit then you know when to click. I'm feeling lucky today. I might go on an OE run. BTW it doesn't count if they all logout on you so make sure you count the bodies.
Sovrath, man I hear you on the shirt enchanting. I can't tell you how many of those things I've blown up. The first two I tried I got to +5. I've probably blown up 30 shirts since then going for a +6.
I have much better success playing the market and then buying other peoples OE gear. Most of my stuff goes kaboom trying for +4.

That's why, when I see all these ++++++++ etc. weapons, for sale for money that would make a rich man choke, I think of all the attempts it took to create these things and know that I will most likely never own a +8 S grade weapon.
I just don't bring in enough money to cover that type of failure rate.
I mean, "heck", I thought that with "150" enchants, I would be able to get something past +6.
Of course, there reall wasn't much of a money loss there (except for the shirts) because I got those enchants from events and from that Red Gem quest up in Aden.
Here's what I do, but by no means is it failproof.
Get a bunch of C grade stuff (Darkscreamers are popular) when I mean a bunch I mean A BUNCH.
Get the appropriate EWCs
Have everything all ready at hand. So whatever weapon you really want to enchant, have it and the EWscroll ready. Make sure everything is already at +3 or better, Just a stupid theory, but for me even a 100% enchant is a success roll.
Get em all to 3 and then try 4 on all of them
if you fail 3 times in a row, try one on a higher grade weapon. For instance your drac bow.
With the failed ones take c crystals and get more DS with it and get them all to 3 again. Redo.
Result? +5, +6, +8 Drac.
and of course the few 9/10/11/12 DS.

And about 8000+ S crystals
edit: don't EVER do it in one sitting... for some reason, it doesn work as well.
