I've gotten some mats to drop, for which I did notr get the recs. To them, I have to spoil off mobs that are say maybe 8 levels lower than my BH - dark blue. Will the spoil rate be affected by the level difference? Will I even be able to spoil the dark blue mobs?
Also, do things like Empower and spiritshots help spoil rates? I'm guessing the answer is "no", but thought I would ask.

You will have a really hard time trying to spoil blue mobs. Spirit shots and emp have no effect on spoil.

Spoil works like drops do. The dark Blue mobs should spoil easy, but the chance of getting the spoils (blue glow) is reduced at the same rate as drops.
In short, you have to buy the rec from someone else, take a chance you can get it despite being terribly overlevel, delevel to get the recipe, level an alt for it or just ask yourself if it's *really* something worth crafting.

from experience running a newb dwarf up with top ng gear is a quick way to hit up all the recipes while possibly banking them for a later date
notably dwarves cannot use sps to my knowledge (might be changed) but empower does affect spoil landing chance but mostly on ++ mobs not dark blues
best spoil evar... ag shot recipe off a blood red amazed the heck out of my clannies

Spoil is not magic it's a melee skill so how does empower effect it?
By the way if you cast kiss of Eva on the Head Priest at any church you can +10 any dagger from D grade and up O.o

haven't done extensive testing... (mostly due to no high level scav/BH) and i'd need someone to actually kill the mob...
but found that spoil tends to land more often with empower than without... course it might just be a statistical blip
then again i've had two parties reform to include spoil sharing due to my WS landing spoils
