LOL saw the title and was going to say there is no such thing in L2.
I would love to see people actually play support classes, but unfortunatley it will never happen on a big scale in this game. Might as well get use to the idea of 2boxing in MMO's. Every MMO is like that now days. Use to be a minority that 2boxed now it's the majority.
Do you people want to see a return of live support classes again ?
Or are you just satisfied with everybody & thier grandma doing the 2-box ?
:(
The issue is good and dead. No sense trying to revive it to be honest because it's an evolutionary response not a democratic vote or anything like that.
People want buffs but they don't want buffers(less exp, less drops, less adena). They moan about not finding buffers but the fact is that no one really liked to party buffers in the first place, so it was sort of a self fulfulling prophecy. Even in C1 as a Shaman/Warcryer people just wanted to party me long enough to get buffs and when I walked away after they kicked me they were like, "WTH! Are you going to be our buffer or not?" Yes, they expected me to sit there for 20 minutes, rebuff them, and then sit again without getting any exp, adena, or drops. That sort of mentality is still prevalent so just let the issue go. They won't change. The game won't really change.
About the only time anyone wants "live support" is during sieges. The other two weeks you are on your own. Thankfully, I have been in two great clans and especially in the first one I got a ridiculous amount of support. I feel bad for other folks though.
You want to know how out of touch NCsoft is? Talk to an SE. Can you imagine trying to actually play that class on a daily basis? I would rather punch myself in the crotch. No, I'm serious. At least when you get done punching yourself in the '**** you might be playing a class that isn't actually better off being boxed, but if you are an SE you're just screwed. Then of course you have the lovely prospect of solo'ing as a Bishop or Elven Elder.
Yeah, the game designers play L2. Everyday. Sure they do.
How ever everything is balanced and made to fit with no +ed weapons or armors, dwarves being in better gear than everyone else, no-ones spamming hp pots, or attakc pots or speed pots or cp pots, etctetctec. It's balanced on a no adena sink usage whatsoever, so if you have everyone using those, then the balance is so dead it's not even funny
Serious parties use live support. Pole/AoE, Pagan, Archer parties...
Only nukers box like sociopaths.
Heh...
Serious parties use you know what, certainly not "live" support.
Although define support really. Boxed buffers are the norm, especially in serious parties.
Boxed dancers/singers are also the norm. (Simple G15/Nostrom Macro)
Stop exagerating. Boxed BD and SwS are exceptions, not the norm.
Box in Rift parties are numerous, but on other parties, 8 or 9 members doesn't change a lot of thing so everybody prefers a live buffer so they don't have to care about it plus crowd control adds survivability.
The only exception I saw was once with a OOP Doomcrier in Archer party because there was nobody else available.
On a side note, SE are not screwed at all. But they're generally stuck to duos in FoD. Still, XP is fast there.
And there are still players grouping by affinities, creating weird parties, not top efficient but fun.

What guild are you in on Teon?
Its not a exageration at all. It is the norm.
Take a look at any ITT party for example. You'll find numerous are boxed (with w/ Redsky). Take a look at any Nova or TD party on Bartz, again, numerous boxed. How about RM/Fusion & RVG on Franz? Wow, same thing!
I would bet any amount of money that *at least* 1 character in every ITT PvE group is boxed. If you've got Skirn playing, I'll bump that up to at least 3 ;P (<3 Skirn)
Its really as simple as a G15 or Radar these days. Sorry, it IS the norm, regardless of if you like it or not.
ITT and RedSky are non-factors for those actually playing the game. They don't stop to boxed chars...
And RM and co on Franz... no comment.
Anyway, I only grouped once with a boxed BD. The guy was boxing WC too. Unfortunately it wasn't G15, which nobody uses except a few ones for pick ups, so he's been expelled from the clan.
You must be reading Blah too much.
They certainly "own" the higher parts of the server, yet as they don't care about most of the other players, we don't have to care about them. Newbs have fun at Dion Castle sieges. Newbs can exp wherever they want without having to constantly check Radar for incoming enemies.
Anyway, live support is useful and most of players look for live support before bringing their boxes. And not all supports are boxed at the same rate. BD and SwS still have a comfortable margin before having to complain.
PP and SE are dead classes. Sorry, you must consider reroll guys. :)
Guess I need to reroll. Dang - so close to 78 too. What should I reroll to?
Gotta admit - playing the prophet class for as long as I have has not been easy. Finding the right clan or group of friends to play along with all works out in the end. Playing as a prophet that gets up of my butt and fights along surely does pass the time in between buffs though. Not sure how many prophets play this way.
Yeah - I did - Ironic thing was - I was told to reroll at 56 when I got Haste 2 because PP's were not useful after that. Didn't listen then and won't listen now - LOL.
LOW GAME (newb) parties dont use boxed support very much.
Better? ;)
Nope ^^ Both types use boxed support for PVE. Both also use live support. But, the main point about Live support is PVP, dont you agree? It is quite easy to G15 that WC to buff every 20mins, or that BD to dance, but for PVP it becomes a bit more complicated if you want more than just buffs and dances.
And Dion wasnt really a siege of the "who the hell are they?"... maybe you're just associating with people like Dizjk who dont even see their own allies.

Obviously for PvP you'd want live :)
But for PvE, its so mind numbing it dosent even matter. G15 the WC, G15 the BD/SWS (Dance every two minutes, assist macro the targeter), and your good to go.
You know alot do it Charm :P Skirn is freaking famous for boxing like 4-5 characters LOL.
As for Dion, I have to disagree with you. It was purely a siege of who the hell are they for a majority of those alliances. You could PK them and they woudnt even declare back they are so scared. Heck, look who won... (although Dizjk dosent have any allies TBH.. Exile is doing a great job alienating all their friends)

certain classes are just easy to box.. (dc anyone? I like pressing 1 button every 5 minutes) warlock too. 1 button every 12 minutes. sws/bd 1 button every 6 minutes.
only classes that take any real effort is cardinal and lead archer.
I can confirm, I am specialist of boxing. One main and 8 box, you need to have the appropriate hardware and games pads, and you will be able to make PVE without no problem.

first you say live supports are not needed for pve
than live supports are needed for pvp
do you expect live high lv supports to pop up from nowhere or to xp alone till your so nice to call tham for pvp?
PS: as for Dion if your dont know who the clans/allys are, you just show how little you know about teon server or how arrogant you are.
To not declare back after pk from one of the "factor clans" is not about to be scared, its about ignoring tham.

Boy, you really dont know how its done do you?
Account sharing is more then just a word you know.
the bad thing of always having boxed support chars is that usually when played live for pvp their players have no clue how to pvp with the class..
boxing is ok but live > box and I personally always take a live player over a box
ppl who only xp with oop boxed chars and leaving clannies who play a support class in the cold should look up the meaning of team work & check why they bothered being in a clan in the first place

and you know they ban for Account sharing?
(not talking about the "other ways" how its done)
Agreed that live is always better then boxed in PvP.
PvE though, alot of times there absolutely is no difference between a live or boxed support toon.
Its not like your WC adds any reasonable DPS. In certain circumstances a BD/SWS is actually better boxed because its *on the second* dances with never any "hey dummy dance" time. They also assist just as well as a live.
Perhaps some of you have never been in a party where supports have setup G15/Nostrom's to go afk to grab a drink or bathroom or whatever, but I assure you, its just as good or better then if they were live.
Might be but if I catch anyone in my groups doing that without letting the party know it's auto dismiss from party as I play this game to interact & have fun with players, also my main reason I hate botters.
for background info it might be worth noting that I've lvled my SwM sub to 80+ with friends without having to box/walker it
it all depends on how one wants to play & have fun in this game which is after all something personal

So its ok as long as they tell you, gotcha. Which means, more then likely, you've seen it done, or been in a party where it has been done.
Some do it alot more then others, but it is rampant.. just for the ease of setting up parties if you have your bases covered.
As to the sub, why not your main? Gonna suck if we dont get the sub+main swap event and your stuck at level 80 while everyone else can go 85 w/ new gear ;)
believe it or not but after playing my main, dualist 76, since open beta I got tired of it in C4 and have been playing my SwM since then ^^
ps, NC Soft needs to hurry with K+ and the new XP area on Hellbound (Iron or Steel Tower I think lol) as it suxs to find decent xp spots for a full party of 79~80 players doh

Although opening up the tower woudnt help. You cant get in it right away anyway. First you need to open Hellbound, then gather enough rep from the natives to even gain access.
Dont think anyone has opened the way yet on any server.
with the way you mean access to Hellbound ? if so Seighard & Kain have done so already and several of the players who made that possible are now on Bartz & Franz so it's just a matter of time imo ?

its open on bartz.
but you have to be 78+ and have to have done the 2 quest.
Not everyone 2boxes a healer/buffer. I have several active support classes in my clan. PP, SE, Bish...
Just because you prefer a 2 box, or think that everyone 2 boxes because you and your friends do, it doesn't make it correct. There are more actively played support class characters than you think ^^
My players actually enjoy their support classes. Parties are easy to find, and it's fun to play them in PvP (just because you are not doing the killing doesn't mean you are playing a gimped class).
Another example of lineage players generalizing things lol.
Edit: BTW, Ashane.. RF Online didn't suit you I guess? Got pretty pathetic after f2p eh? (Dunpealle of Wind Server/Novus)
Sorry, my mistake on hellbound. Havent been keeping up on it. Farmed a few shards and kinda gave up, too much of a pain in the [censored] to even contemplate S80.

Hey Dun :)
Yeah, after begging for a merger for how long, we kinda gave up. Came back where we started, here ;) Too bad too, had a hell of alot of potential.
Tried to go back to RFO when they first announced F2P, and I was having the same installation/time-sync issue that caused me to quit in the first place...
Anyway....
I prefer my buffers live, personally, though I could 2-box if I wanted to. Still, talking to myself starts to annoy my flatmates, so its better to have a conversation in typetext with someone that types back, you know?

Not everyone does it. but a lot of people do. And it can make it hard to find parties as a support class since almost everyone has a boxed one, or someone in their clan has a boxed one.
most people will take a boxed OOP over a live in-party buffer
as far as enjoyment in pvp, healers are somewhat interesting to play. but prophets/SE's are dreadful, imo. (SE is such a gimp healer, greater heal sucks balls for pvp)
most people will take a boxed OOP over a live in-party buffer
That is a sad statement.
& it used to be that people made a boxed toon because they couldnt find enough live support....but at least they wanted to party live support back then. :(
It's true though. an in-party buffer means it'll take you 2 mobs to get the same EXP, a lot of the time that isn't even made up by the buffs. Especially not at low levels
With text, I'm legible. With vox, even Dubliners have trouble with my accent. Americans? Forget it.
now i wanna know what you sound like :p
how long have you been with the people you play with. usually you learn to understand påeople fairly quickly, even with heavy accents

Nah, I'm in the same boat as the Scottish kid mentioned there... you might understand every tenth word, or extremely common words like "aye", "nay" and certain choice expletives... other than that, not so much.

Sad and true ...
Nearly every player will do so as Lineage II is just a race for throne of The best Player.
Live support won't really exist, unless NCSoft make it really needed/good in both pve and pvp, no matter of lv.
don't really know any Irish people.
The only one i know about is Dara O'Brian, an Irish standup comedian, but i don't know whether he speaks with a true irish accent.
