I just came back after a trail account from 05..currently my highest character is only 15 so I figure before I devote more time into a character I should make sure i'm on a good server. Right now i'm on Gustin and I've yet to run into another person...is there a "best" server?
Bartz is your NA
Teon (first), Franz (second) if your Euro.
Or, if your Euro, you can wait until the opening of the new server Luna and start fresh with everyone. (Or US I guess, just siege times/ oly times wont be friendly to you)
The the answer to your question "the best server" would really come from what kind of player you are. Do you want to have to constantly fight for a space to level,do you want non stop pvp, do you want to role play, do you want to be a loner, do you want to be in a clan that actually helps you even though you are at level 1?
Consider these questions, then ask what server is best. Reason being, that not all servers are alike.
thanks for all the great replies so far! To be more specific, I guess I'm looking for a friendly community that I won't have too much trouble finding others to group up with in. I don't really want to have to constatly fight to find a spot to level, but it would be nice to run into other people too. I don't plan on playing a whole ton (5-10 hours a week) if that matters. 21-40 really arent much better frankly... but will be better on the highest populated servers (Teon -> Franz -> Bartz -> Hindemith, in that order)
At any given time any of the NA servers could have the most people online. But I do agree Bartz is the most populated NA server after that is just personal opinions dependant on time of day..

You have already made a huge leap in getting help in game by posting on the boards.
I am in Gustin and would be more then happy to help you or anyone else that is starting the game.
The hardest part is determining who is actually new and not a reroll looking to scam.
Gustin is in the same boat as every NA server not named Bartz. The lower levels have been boosted to get through very quickly. This results in even more barren lower towns.
Your toon is low enough that starting over on another server will not cause you to consider /wrist.
Give the other servers a try, they need population too.
However, if you want to stick with Gustin, I , and I am sure many others on my server, would be more then willing to help.
The biggest advice is to find a clan. A common community will always be able to help you more.
You might also want to check and compare the prices of items on each server you are considering joining. Hindemith has a diverse population that is active on all levels. The prices on items are usually the cheapest across all the servers. Good luck on your choice.
actually you can remove everything beside bartz, teon, franz from your list of populated servers. i'm in the #4 server (or #5 according another stats), hindemith. and it's quite deserted. when server population goes less than 2k ppl, for me it seems very lonely place. :/
yes, some servers like devi and hinde have more EU people than Batrz, but this can't really help with pain from 9 hours time shift (i mean CDT and Moscow times). :/
I am an NA player and I agree there seem to be more Euro on Hinde. This works to my advantage because I can have my shops up and selling things when I'm sleeping. While 2K players may seem empty it only takes 9 to form a full party. And I still see a lot of pvp/gank groups running around.
Devianne has similar population and great high end politics/pvp.
Everyone's so defensive of their server it's not even funny.

Hate to burst your bubble but they are comming to Devianne. Not as much as Bartz. But every week we are getting more and more players. I know it's not balancing out the losses but they are comming to Devianne.
The funny fact this is not really relevant since as I said the server is anything but active in terms of real players, except the high level drama there's little to look forward to.
to me the interesting thing is that the number of players on Teon, Franz & Bartz varies depending on time in a day.
But on the other servers the numbers are pretty constant, difference between peak and non-peak time is very small, maybe 100 players? These 100 ppl seem to me like real players but who are the others? nonstop bots? nonstop shops? can you interact with them? curious ...
Well I decided to make a character on bartz and at least check it out. Already i've seen more people in a day than I saw the entire last week on Gustin so thats a good sign I guess. I'll play around with it and see what comes of it. I went human mage, but I really just want to get to 20 so I can get out of the real new areas and see some of the other classes. I sorta have to see them to know what I really want to play. If anyone else is just starting up on bartz let me know and maybe we can group for a bit to ease the monotony. Thanks for everyones input!
