I've got quite a bit to ask here...bear with me. I did read every post in the dwarf forum, so I'll try not to be redundant.
I'm planning on taking WS all the way up, then doing BH, then some other class to be my pvp class. (you get 3, right?)
How long /played does it take a WS to get to level 75? I assume it's longer than other races/classes, but I don't know how long it takes them, either. Assume I'm just going to be levelling normally, no buffing support network or anything like that. (I'll hopefully not be poor, because I'll be in shop mode for long intervals.)
I know everyone else can craft (boo!) but we're the only ones that can turn items into crystals, right?
What does a dwarf shop have that a crafter shop doesn't? I'm talking about when you set up your toon to be a shop.
Lastly, people seem kind of despondent about the fate of dwarves. Should I just level some other class, and trust that I'll get enough money to get by? I'm doing dwarf partly so I can take a cool pvp class later and surprise people, but more for the money, and to have a good crafter on my account. (and to get invited to a guild more readily.)
Well level dwarf with no support is really hard, if you make friends on the game to level with, makes things a lot easier, as for the dwarven class in my case is the class that I had more fun playing I am actually a Bounty Hunter, most of the times I have to solo but I have a SE on my back pack :P
Not all the classes can craft what you craft actually, the WS is the only one able to craft Weapons, armor, jewelery and other crafting materials as well as soul shots and spirit shots, whit the recipes you find or buy you can register those and then just set a craft shop and leave your toon sitting on giran making money.
As for the fate for the dwarf is pretty dark since NCsoft hate us and nerf us on avery chronicle until we disappear but the dwarf is the only race that look super cool with any subclass, and believe me once you level you main WS you will not want to do another dwarf class ever one is enough
a WS isnt that bad to solo with, atleast not if you use your golem. but it will be costly and you will want to have some kind of support. id personaly recomend a 58 SE, it would be able to both heal you and your pet decently aswell as give you VR wich would help alot. with some potions for attack speed you should do fine. only problem is you dont get haste for your pet. a 52 or 56 pp would be ok aswell but then you basicly need to hunt in areas where there is herb drops so that your golem can get heals.
Oh, and I figured out that SE is Shillien Elder, but you can't exactly buy those in a shop...or can you?
lol no
many that playes a dwarf usualy have 2 accounts (1 for the dwarf and 1 for a buffer)...there are some wery few exeptions though...they level a dwarf (WS/BH) and a dark elf (SE) or orc (WC=WarCryer) to make it wasier for them to level, but it takes longer since you have to drag up two characters at the same time.
Yes, when I reached 40 recently on both my dwarves I had to buy another account to keep playing.
I was fine on C4 PTS without but I used a LOT of Greater Healing Potion and Greater Swift Attack Potions. Since it costs 6k for 1 potion on live I simply can't afford it, or I'll craft shots 22 hours/day to hunt 2 hours lol.
Of course, if you play with friends or in a clan you don't need another account only if you solo like I do.
Get your spoiler up to around 45 and head out to Outlaw Forest. The gargoyles spoils ghp almost on a 1 for 1 basis. Helps out ALOT.Yes, lvling a dwarf solo does take time. But if you like the class, its worth the effort it takes. Ive watched clannies go from 30 something to 60 something in the time I've gained 6 lvls. I, however, am a masochist. And a miser. And even though I have alts, I prefer my dwarf over any other class there is.
This is a good tip thank you. I finally found the GHP recipe from Common Craft, I was planning to fish to make some but I'll have a look in Outlaw Forest :)
what worked for me for fast leveling... well kinda
A: get every material recipe as you level up to 20... PERIOD
(get tons of them) they sell well in giran
(plan out your levels by this is almost how strong i say this)
B: get the dg/cg/bg/ag shot recipes from spoil/drops asap
C: spoil works till lvl 20, then kinda works till 75 aka don't stop using it (spoil it as lead in then try next mob)
D: be prepared to make 'rest breaks' at 20, 40, 52, 61
this is where you craft basically nothing but ss and farm the market and make enough cash to afford the best grade gear
E: craft a mid to high dg weapon with all the mats you spoil
(crunch said weapon for dg crystals most likely sell it otherwise)
F: get a this item makes x crystal and live you life by it... almost every purchase i make revolves around two things... how much i can crunch it for and get ss wise and how much its worth on the market... if it ain't selling crunch it unless its worth waay more than ss
G: know your profit margin if it costs x to make ss sell at x+1 or 2 not at +10 or 20 more to make but it sells much faster
Thanks for your advice, everyone. I'm on Bartz now, seems a little less dead than Sieghardt.
Totally off-the-wall question: Is there a way to make it so you automatically burn shots when you hit? Or do you have to click it every time?

I have a vague idea what you mean (get recipes...) but I'm not really sure...are you saying the recipes to craft the components to craft things? How do I get them? Just lucky drops/spoils?
E: craft a mid to high dg weapon with all the mats you spoil

I disagree with this. On Kain at least, you will make more money selling the mats than crafting a d grade weapon. Same for C grade. You can buy the C and D weapons in Giran and upgrade them with ancient adena at Seven Signs event.
Otherwise you can craft some recipes such as dark hose with the mats from the golem outside Dion or enchanged jewelry from the orcs near Giran and make cheap d crystals from them, because it's using stems and leather which are not too expensive.
The material recipes are leather, coarse bone powder, braided hemp and so on. You can get them from drop and spoil. You can find more infos on fansites.
to clarify on material recipes (and spoil for that matter)
material recipes allow you to turn stem in braided hemp
or coal and charcoal into cokes etc... however if you burn your way up to 20 as fast as you can you can miss these recipes...
spoil works this way (apologies if you already know)
spoil mob
(spoil either lands or not, usually a sound will play on successful spoil... but not sure cause i rarely play with sound these days)
kill mob
sweep mobs glowing blue corpse
bing items or recipes etc...
basically doubles your drop chances
and alot of the spoils at low level tend to be very high chance of spoil
Well, you've got your credentials for saying that in your sig... :)
I want to play a dwarf because I like the idea of putting a shop up all day while I'm at work, and because I want to take that uber human rank class, later, so I can be a pvp dark horse.
Are those bad reasons?
How slow is 3 times slower? How long does it take a normal class to get to 75?
to clarify properly buffed and equiped a dwarf is an awesome sight to behold
with the newb buffs 1-40 should be easy as the main problems dwarves have (healing/ww and hitting mobs faster) are solved by newb buffs.
as for normal class to 75... not sure think you can do it in a couple months but that depends on lots of factors... gear and whether you spam ss / hp pots / buffer/healer
i'm fairly certain i did a dwarf to 20 in 3 days... but it could of been less
Totally off-the-wall question: Is there a way to make it so you automatically burn shots when you hit? Or do you have to click it every time?
I'm sure you have know this from other player by now, but just incase right click on the shot on your hotbar- enable auto shot usage. You can also disable auto shot usage by right click on it again.
if you just want to lvl up fast, poling is fastest way to xp for dwarf class through they need buff and healer. lvl 8-36 u get newbie buff that help you, after that you should group with clan/friend buffer/healer class to help you lvl up.
When I say poling -your using a polearm weapon to hit many monster at once. dwarf has matery and skill in poling so why kill 1 mob for xp while you can kill 10 or mob for xp and lot of drops. Even with the reduce effectiveness of Vr buff you should still be able to do pole and lvl up faster then killing 1 mob at a time.
And yes clan with acadamy want low lvl player to join , since they get lot of clan rep point when you finish 2nd class change in their acadamy. So it does matter if you play a dwarf or not as long as you are activly leveling to 40 and finish your class change any acadamy clan will want you. Plus you might have some high lvl clan buffer who help you power lvl:) thinking killing 15-20 mob at once all that drop and xp:)
Completely agree with Goddess above. Dwarves can be frustrating at time for sure, but they are also lots of fun. Warsmith isn't a bad choice either, you + mech golem aren't a bad combination for solo xp in areas that drop herbs, although costs come into play there. But the best xp of all can be found poling, and dwarves are very good at that. We may lack some of the skills that people suddenly think are neccesary for poling (AoE stuns/Frenzy/etc) but we can definatly hold our own. You'll want to expirience both these methods of leveling, unfortunatly though...that means 2 weapons for each grade.
Really though, 100% solo isnt a great option for us (or any other class) so make friends. Try to join an active clan, and hopefully you'll find one who's open to partying and helping new players. Get to know buffers/healers around your level range, and maybe you can get dedicated party's going with them. Your not gonna want to lvl to 75 solo, but then again why would you play a MMO if you did want to solo all the time?
the dwarf levels about 3 times as slow as any other class
you can make money using the manor than you ever can spoiling/crafting
you can get more basic mats and buy key/recipes than you ever can spoiling them.
you do so little damage as a dwarf, you will almost always lose any equal pvp scenario.
so you really really really have to like playing a dwarf.
if you dont get a second account so you have your own buffers, you are going to cry. warcryer and a healer will carry you far into the night.
good luck
You must not fight many Kamaels. My BH own kamaels (she only B grade and owns A grade). and the manor system is not that great over spoill.
1. it cost to buy the stupid things in the first place. (and they screw up drops) Spoill is free and at witches I spoill any were from 5 to 15 animal bones per mob and sell them over night while I sleep for 1k each. + on top of that I get armor and weapon scrolls to sell. Can't get that with manor system.
2. Get a Great Wolf. I solo a whole room at witches at lvl 58 (I'm 59 now) with no ss with my great wolf and oop SE.
Which I'm glad I have a SE I run out of mp we kill mobs so fast.
Don't bother with crafting just sell the matts unless your crafting for something you need.
