And what happened, why did Sieg's heroes go down? Will there be any compensation for the heroes? Why is it taking so long to be fixed? If you think an automated message on the hour every hour satisfied your customer's questions and made them feel like the problem was being addressed promptly, you are dead wrong.
In case you didn't know, good customer service involves TAKING CARE of your customers instead of just having the game repeatedly saying "we're looking into it."

They just told you they are taking care of the issue... so chill. Obviously you haven't been a part of the L2 community for very long, usually when stuff like this happens, NCsoft won't even bother replying to you or informing you about the situation and the petition system always resulted in an automated answer.
Just go grind some, enjoy the event... they are obviously working on it AND they are keeping you updated on the situation. This is a large improvement over the customer service we had a year ago.
So piss yourself over the issue if you want, but all you are soiling is yourself.
Been playing since C1 kiddo, I'm tired of all the BS from this crap company. Taking care of the issue would have been fixing it the day it happened. Spamming a message every hour is not taking care of the issue, its blowing it off. Its been almost 48 hours since the problem started and it took them nearly that long to even tell us when it would be fixed. As a paying customer, I don't like being blown off. You say " and NCsoft won't even bother replying to you or informing you" like its some kind of acceptable practice. It isn't. Its customer service at its worst and shows how little they care about their L2 community.
You owe me 5 mil by the way Vhaidren, I lvl'd you in witches with my destroyer and you soed as soon as that doom helm drop went into your inventory. Thanks for being a [censored] in game and out.
Lineage 2 and DST (Daylight Savings Time) don't mix. They never have. To put it bluntly L2 was made in a place where they have one time zone and no DST. There is no patch, no hot fix, and no code replacement that will fix this issue. Ever. That part of the game is borked. Permanently. So far Lineage II has broken 9 times due to DST changes. For the last 7 of them we have created special scripts that we run right after the time change to magically make all the changes happen that are supposed to happen on DST or the switch back.
In this particular case Sieghardts stood up and took its medicine like a good boy, waited for us to leave then spit it all over the room and flipped us the bird.
So Firestarter (great name btw, appropriate,) you and Sieghardt are cut from the same cloth... Tough as nails and hate me.
As we speak, people smarter than I are creating, and testing the magic bullet that is supposed to return balance to the force. Supposedly it will return all lost points and matches. We will see. I hope it does. I really do.
To everyone that has waited patiently... thank you.
Please consider this your warning for when we fall back out of DST. Something will break. No preparation or fix will stop it. Just pray it is not your server this time.
I can see that it must be very difficult to write a little piece of code into the L2 server program that allows you to put a tick in a box that says "Observer Daylight Savings" and this piece of code actually changes the in-game time. What revolutionary code that would be. You could possibly sell it to Bill Gates. Oh, hang on, he had his boys code that into his product back in the 17th century.
It's just more evidence that we are seen as a 2nd rate consumer by NC Korea and that NCNA are happy to let that situation continue or absolutely powerless to stop it. If only there were awards for worst customer support then someone around here would need a large trophy cabinet.
On the plus side Spam, you'll have made some peoples day. There are actually fanboys on here who treat a post from you like some kind of divine event that's worth paying $15/month for. Whoever hit the "Break in case of emergncy" button has served the community well. And I didn't see a 923 anywhere in this post. ;)
I'm off to my service support job now to try to actually fix some issues for my customers. I'll let you know how it's done when I get home. :p
As for firestarter, i understand your grief. The support of ncsoft over the last 4 years have been a pain in the [censored] for L2 players. I never tfound out why that was and prolly I will never know the awnser to it as well. I'm playing also other titles of NCsoft and there the support is great! I'd like to think that when the change to CT1 that brought us a new interface, NCsoft saw that the support also needed some improvements. Now from my personal experience they have made a effort and still have a long way to go but they DID improve. Now thre is a quick response time from their support team ingame! For me that is a big improvement. None the less alot of the message are automated which is something that I personally hate in particular.
As for the issue at hand, If you are really playing since CT1 then you should recollect that their was another hero problem a few months ago. There was no hero status anymore and it took 1 whole month for it being fixed. Not sure if there even was an explanation from NC or not but the point I'm trying to make is that this time you did get a notice from NCsoft admitting that there is a problem. They even explained what the problem is and they are in the work of fixing it.
I can understand the irritation of getting cut deep into the flesh and having a wound of 5 inches long and an inch deep. And what do you get from it? A Walt disney patch to stop the bleeding? Well we both know that that is a temporary fix. Lets give nc the chance after their message in game to fix the priooblem so that it was more than just a patch

Suggestion: Stop caring about DST changes. Don't adjust for it. But I am willing to bet since they are running on Windows Servers (SQL server at least), there are other issues in the background that makes just ignoring it impossible.
You are right, Korea should have programmed for it, but it seems that is one of the least asked for changes from the korean player base, so it won't be happening (I am just kidding here spam, not trying to be mean :) )....
Anyways, there are other things that go on in the data center that most likely are very time sensitive and need to be correct.
Anyways, there are other things that go on in the data center that most likely are very time sensitive and need to be correct.
I'm administering a few data centres all other the world with over 100 thousand servers in it. There's a lot of time-critical systems in there which have to be synchronised to at max a few seconds difference; sometimes less than a second.
All of these tasks run on servers synchronised to the UTC. No time zones. No DST. Way less headache for us.
Hey, I asked simple questions with no flame bait and the guy who calls NC incompetent got all his concerns answered? :( I guess the squeaky wheel does get the grease!
If matches occurred between the data loss and the fix, how will that be handled?

There is no way in hell that a worldwide company is going to set its servers to observe DST.
They woudnt set them to any time that could change because most your talking about thousands of servers.
Anyway, Spam rules ;P
I agree with Akoj or whatever his name is (heh sorry). Just dont observe DST. Even some places in the US dont observe it, for good reason.
i enjoy waking up every morning... without a worry all year about setting clocks and crap... only thing is making sure i don't end up with a clock that is hardcoded for dst... what a royal pain.
perhaps this should be written down as an option for future servers to take into consideration..... a server without DST would be a plus for me ;)

This part of my statement was for you. :)

I obviously can't start talking about server settings. I will say that all other NC game servers are on UTC. L2 is not and can not. Without getting into debates about simply programing a check box (lol) or setting the servers to UTC I will state again that this issue will continue forever.
Anyway.. servers are up. Let me know if stuff is still borked.
As much as I complain, I do it because I care, the DST thing is stupid, but I see where it is out of NCNA's control to change it. If NCK will not change it, then it will never be changed.

Hey I live in a state that does DST (most of the states do but not all states observe it) and I hate it.
Psh for my work i love the dst... i work an hour of OT if i work that nightshift or get an hour extra sleep. If i work the other one i get 1 less hour worked or possibly 1 less hour sleep its 75% all good imo ^^
Am i to assume though that NC NA then has no say in whatever gets programmed and we just beg NA K to change things to what our people want when its time for a new update? Has this DST issue been brought to NC K attention before?

Plus there's a good reason it was put in place.
The amount of energy being saved by the daylight savings time is significant enough to continue using it.
As far as the coding issue, I am surprised HGMSpam gave so many details. I did not expect that :).
I know all about running scripts that were supposed to be temporary solution but a permanent solution never seems to come since there are far more important issues.
LOL, you give the community too much information they complain that you don't know what you are doing. You give them too little information and you will be accused of keeping secrets or not telling us everything. If you don't respond quickly enough, you don't care about the L2 Community. If you respond quickly, you are just giving us a "automated" response.
****ed if you do and ****ed if you don't. How you guys go to work everyday and read this forum is beyond me. I for one have become addicted to the soap opera entangled in these many threads and have the option to look away.
I tip my hat to HGMSpam and Alyra (and the rest of the staff I know not of). Thanks for putting up with this community.
Heroes are up, matches and points are correct, all is happy again in the land of Sieg. Thank you Spam for the replies here and thanks to the programmers for a good fix. I for one am pleased with the way it worked out. +1 to NC's customer service on this issue.

*splursh*... *cough *****...... sorry choking on my drink here..
what?
DST is ment to for some, to keep thier daylight hours adjusted.... essentially making it so that you get off work when the sun is just about down.. instead of getting off work with it being pitch black dark out...
that's it... and frankly.. it's really rediculious as alot of people think that there is some other advantage for it?
DST for Central Standard time living is a joke.. considering that with or without it.... the daylight remains pretty much uniform..
either way.... for some people that experience DST in fractions of the hour instead of full hour changes.. it's an even bigger nightmare.

Your not completely off base but the added benifit of moving the time is by waking up earlier youve changed *in ON/Canada* the time you get up to a time when its allready getting or is bright outside. There by removing the need to turn on lights around the house. And when it starts to get dark out the your in bed 1 hour earlier so you lights run 1 hour less ^^ Every bit helps ;) ... and with the more daylight you have the more kids go outside and play and not sit infront of their computers all day ;)... that is unless their running traders hehe

Yea please take that off Lionna server. I have DST but I don't need it in my game. We have to adjust to people's time all over the world anyway so Korea was right in not even putting it in game so keep that pill we don't want it. :p

ps. and thanks for the update spam
I'm not a big fan of DST myself. But not having the NA market servers stay consistent with (most) local times throighiout the year would probably be a big nuisance for many players. Manor and seige times would be a problem.
(The reason I'm not a big fan is: When you have young children, as I once did, bedtime can be a problem when DST is active.)
Gustin had this issue last year, and they didn't have Hero's for a month, and that month everyone agreed was one of the best months ever. Its amazing SPAM told you EXACTLY what the problem was, and what they were doing to fix it, and ignorant people who have no clue of the day to day operations in a technical field complain about it. I have no idea how some of you tie this into a customer service issue. What lack of customer service is there? They told you there was a problem, they told you it has always been a problem, they told you they are working on it... where do you see the lack of customer service?

get ready for your drink to come back out.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
Daylight savings was put in place to maximize the sunlight available to an "average" day to save energy.
More sunlight and higher temperature for the hours that the majority of the population was awake. Not so they would have light, but because they wouldnt have to turn the lights on.
The recent change to extend it a month was in direct response to the increase to the price of oil.
I suppose you feel that Carter dropped the maximum speed limit on federal highways to 55 because he was concerned for people's safety? It was to make people save gas!
Next time you express your opinion on a matter that you are not 100% sure, drop the friggin sarcasm you dork.
course this isn't the topic to discuss this.. but i'll make the simple point-fact.
Every time a change is made to adjust for dst the first time.... it's countered and nulled with the next one that readjusts it back...
I don't have a clue about the 55 limit, all i know is that people will continue to drive the speeds they want... the "saving gas" a political matter that i won't discuss at all.
As i mentioned, the orginal push behind the DTS.. was to for workers and labourers... to make as much use out of daylight as possible. Getting up before the sunset and being ready to work at dawn vs getting up just as dawn was coming up and and burning the daylight away getting to work and not working yet.
this was implemented in a few places before work lights were really aplenty and easily available... obviously in an attempt to keep costs lower, (who needs lights if your using sunlight).. however with todays labour forces and schedules.. it doesn't matter anymore if it's 3pm or 3am... the lights are likely to remain on at all times....
If you think about that, due to warmer and warmer summers, it may be more efficient to work slightly off daylight time during summer. Remember what problems had Spain, China, Japan and other countries due to excessive energy consumptions from air conditioning devices? Air conditioners >> lighting comparing energy consumption.
actually... some places work in the dark... specially during the summers.. and sleep during the day... this concerves considerable amounts of water.. and saves on dehydration..... not to mention other illnesses related and accidents that tend to occur due to the extremes....
lighting an area for work is dirt cheap... compared to other uses of power.
