rapier or cross bow

Kamael Classes Started Last reply 59 posts
can decided so plz help me haha i just want the one that will do most damage at the end
that's easy crossbow
depends which end of the weapon
Choose what you like the best... I liked crossbow more and ended up taking that..

that's easy crossbow

As in a crossbow is better long-term or in the end? I've been curious on this as well. Actually, somewhat regretting that my Kamael isn't male because two-handed Kamaels are just nasty.

At any rate, the rapier is cool and all but I also like the idea of crossbows. I already know how difficult it is to level using a regular bow and just don't see any use for those stupid traps . >.<
Go for Rapier is you like close combat over range. All just a matter of opinion. TBH the trap skills dont make any sense to me.
As alternative for when you hit A grade.
If you are bored of running all over the spot chasing mobs, go to VoS. Sinse you still have pre 40 xbow masteries you can nuke then with your souls and finish them off with the xbow. Works pretty well sinse your soul nuke burns more then half of the mobs HP allready.
I was actually dumb enough to run into a trap when it was so obvious that the arb laid a trap but I was so intent on getting a backstab in the the focus was just gone, cause man when you run into a root trap, gg.

If I really wanted to lvl a Soul Breaker because archers are expensive as hell to lvl through C-grade. Can an Arbalester survive 40-52 with a dagger the way Elves and Dark Elves can or would I be better off using the crossbow straight through?

And are Kamaels comparable at range to the other archer classes?
the question was "i just want the one that will do most damage at the end"

And I answered the question. Now prove to me a rapier will do more damage then a crossbow End game
i prefer going arbelester and then using a rapier anyways.....

problem solved
don't know..

having a little over 360 crit rate with insane attack speed vs those duals.....
they +10 with a +36.7 to Critt argument. and they were my WC and Glad Old weapon so lot cheaper then trying find a decent Rapier with as nice of P attack.
nice
does ur kamael actually swing the 2nd sword o0?
You can't carry enough weight to use bolts+SS without going to town every few minutes, and you don't get VR. So it's basically insane to use bow to PvE.

I'm arbalester but use rapier for PvE.
See, another arb using a rapier..

what i love the most is the passive critical increase we get that also effects the use of any other weapon..

Rapier...... = to that of a dagger, speed of a dagger, more patk then a dagger, similare crit attributes of a dagger and a sword.....

it's like the best of both sword and dagger worlds...

Still soloing Apostates @ lvl 55 with a +10 77 crit SA/+24 crit Augmented 2nd from top c weapon.....

I still can't afford a 200mil +0 Dama
If you're an arbalester, use the crossbow. Advice from someone who has a soon to be 79 Drac(armor+bow with Focus+Fire Stones) arbalester in clan.
Given a high grade focus bow, and dwarf that can hold your supplies, yea, use the crossbow. Otherwise you spend all your time restocking.

But for lower (under B) grades, your CON isn't night enough to carry the shots...
You'll need more restocking with a rapier than a bow when both use the same amount of shots. Higher DPS = less shots used per mob. Not to mention that the healing pots you'll need for going into melee weight more than bolts.
if your rapier is enchanted enough, the DPS difference is marginal..

I have to stock up more often with the crossbow... and wait around due to using a crossbow then a rapier..

AKA,

I can continuously kill mobs.. gain more xp.. in the same duration as killing as efficiently with a crossbow.
LOL, that is the worst argument ever. If the Drac bow is enhanced enough, it will be the same as a [censored] +14 Dynasty Bow. Fail more pal? Comparing an OE weapon to non-OE sure is smart.

Tell us once you even scratch the 70's.

Actually you get a "convert b grade bolt" skill with which you get from 1 B crys something in between 1400-2800 bolts... so all you need to carry at B grade is something like 4000SSB and 2 B crys

You don't get crossbows with focus until top-A. After that, yea, weight isn't really an issue, getting ganked by other clans is ;)

I wont be getting a better P.Atk+focus then my C rapier until S grade, so it will be all rapier till then.

does ur kamael actually swing the 2nd sword o0?

Some times most of the times it don't but I still do 2 hits. it's wacko like the rapier. and I would use a rapier if someone gets me a +10 top B grade with Focus.

Yes a Crossbow is a Good PVE weapon but not when your solo in a full room with VR being useless on a crossbow. I will take my Duals till I'm A grade ty :D
You know, you're prolly the only Catacomb lover here. There's much better EXP places...
There is but the seal stones supply my greater heal pots, pet bless rez and Greater swift attack pots. Which I always need because I solo a lot and some one in the clan or allance always needs supplies and guess who they turn 2 when they run out. Also I'm not going let farmers chase me out of the catta becasue they think they own the dam cattas.

omg, are we even talking specifically about 70+?

I thought the orginal discussion was about PvE at the lower lvls?

Of course soon as you get up in lvls to make full use of a crossbow, would it make more sense to use it, course i still think (even with experience as i've got a +10 dynasty bow on the pts current with +24 dynasty leather set) in which lvling the toon is MUCH easier and more efficient using a similarely enchanted rapier of the same grade.

In essense, while it would be nice to have a drac bow, i'd rather have the rapier.
+16 rapier top c grade > +10 dama ;)

better focus, easier augmentations (cheaper), and it just sucks that i have to carry a crapload of CSS lol... but it's well worth it if you can craft yourself.
Melee is never more efficient than range in lvling... but hey, you like to stick to 60's, so have fun. And I guess you're the exact same as Ashley, no pvp at all.
Very little to no pvp....

Range in pvp is the way to go... that's obvious and i'm aware of it.

PvE with range is not great at all unless your in a group already.

I want to see how well you do pve wise with a range weapon that isn't able to kill the mobs effectively while giving great loot and additionals.

Sure i could go out and find archer weak mobs, but the fact remains that it's still isn't nearly as efficient as having a rapier with similare characteristics as a dagger, VR4 and mowing the land down in a frigen split second.

Problem solved.

If pvp rolls around, switch to the xbow and yet again, problem solved.
Xbow, PP and IoP... Guess you havent been around much.
maybe not..

but i'd be interested to see who gains the fastest lvling....

so far i'm beating out 5 other arbelesters that are going stickly Bop (various enchants) that are soloing in various places....

If i had the patients to gain a lvl every 2-3 hours grinding, i'd gain a lvl or 2 every day.
Wow, you're leveling fast in the 50s, that's a great accomplishment. Just wait till you come close to the 70's range. Melee has to run from mob to mob, slowing the process. Melee also has normally less DPS, slowing again the process. And once you get high enough, most of the melee mobs will start stunning, which will suck alot on your Kamael.
as i said....... this was a discussion about lower lvl..... pre 70's likely.....

but that doesn't change the fact that there are still places in which they don't stun... and with a proper setup.. you can potentially still solo if not dou well enough in the higher lvl spots.....

catacombs included

I KNOW for a fact that i won't have much of any issue soloing or douing through out lvl 60s
Uhh, the OP does not specify LOW LVL only anywhere. He wants most DPS, which you made into LOW LVL PVE talk. And even then, Xbow does more. Your calculations are skewed already by using a +16 Weapon, which is not the norm. How about the other one having a +16 Bow? Wanna bet which one does more damage, hmm? You go catacomb or whatever, he goes VoS and after that FotD and will do DOUBLE if not TRIPLE your EXP.
I'm heading for 80's and I still fight no stun mobs :)
For crap EXP :)

correction, your correct in that the OP was discussing DPS.... overall value.

and yes, i'm refering to more of the lower lvl pve because that's all i'm familare with.

But my observations are not skewed because that +16 weapon was a bow as well, and the result was overall a slower grind. Less efficient.

I would still like to see how to identical toons manage to lvl with one having a xbow and the other a rapier.....

The passive critical learnt in themselves are quite a big change when using a rapier...... lvl 2 critical is utterly beautiful. can't wait for the 3rd...... 400+ critical lol.... buffed....
And you were probably hunting in the same place with the bow? And I take it your buffer is a SE.
Buffer is SE.. .but i also have a friendly proph as well..

No not in the same locations at all... i've gone around to a nubmer of recommended places... even doued with another archer.....

It's just not nearly as efficient.

ATM i've got a +10 homu converted to sword with focus..... which is actually a smidge less then a dama +0... and i'm still doing better then the +16xbow...
I'm just wondering where did you test the exp speed/efficiency? I mean the hunting area. An arbalester hunting in FotD with a crossbow will do more exp/hour than one with a rapier, of that I am 100% sure. Assuming they have equal buffs/gear. And FotD just happens to be one of the best exp places in the **** game. If you have good gear and some buffs, you can easily go hunt there around lvl 62 or even a bit earlier, and you can stay there to 76+. Of course you can hunt there with a rapier too, but the exp/time will drop dramatically since you will have to run to each mob.
FotD is one of a few places where i've ran around.. but it can't compete to another location of which with a rapier....

mostly Catacombs solo.....

For crap EXP :)

Still take it over getting stun. I hate Stun :(

FotD tablet spot > Catacomb any day.
_Charmille_,

I have never seen anyone with their head stuck so far up their own butt. If you are not the one playing a Kamael and do not have personal experience, please shut your mouth because the funk coming out of it smells terrible.

No one cares what level you are! 70+ does not make you tough anymore...my ten year old cousin could get 70 in 3 months because of the way the game has changed in the past few years. Trust me you don't know everything and even if you did with that attitude no one would want to hear it.

That is all.
Oh oh, did I hit a nerve? Know what, I dont care what you think or what your cousin could do if he wanted to. Fact is, FotD tablet spot beats your catacombs and other **********ing places 10-0. So, like the little good stalker you are, crawl back under that rock of yours and leave the stuff for people who have played the game past B-grade.

Actually, that means that your cousin is better at xping than rapier huggers :p

Check your register dates before you talk about how long somebody has been playing. Also, how is she a stalker after one post? o.O Oh right, I guess it's because you're the "sexiest" something on something. I dunno, I'm losing interest because you're lame.

Anywho, I personally prefer rapiers though it would probably be ideal to have both if you can afford it. As far as straight dps goes, I would say that depends on what buffs you have. If you only have SE buffs, for instance, the rapier would probably be a better option simply because of the hp you would get back (in pve). If you've got a prophet, the xbow would probably be better. I'll have to mess around unbuffed to see which would be better with just herbs and stuff.
Check your brain before your next post. Register dates have no meaning. Heck, there's people with 04 dates asking about how to play the game since they've been here for 2 weeks.
You were right about him babe =/

He does measures his -_- by the number of pixels he can put on the screen.
coz we all know forum registration date is when u started playing right!
I have just hit 20, completed the Warder quest and I'm struggling to decide which weapon to use for D-Grade. I know that if I was on any other toon, I'd use a dagger up until C-Grade because of the massive SS consumption that D-Bows take. Does the transferred weapon take as much SS as the weapon prior to transformation? (Hmm, did that make sense? I mean: an LXB takes 10 shots, will the xbow you get after you transfer this also take 10 shots? And is this the case with swords>rapiers and 2hswords>ancient swords?)

If that's total gibberish, could you advise me on which weapon to use and why?

Ta
+4 or more rapier because you don't have to hold as much for a long hunt and the bonus you get from +4 or more Rapier is a nice add on Kamaels
rapier is like a cross between dagger and sword... has the speed and critical bonuses of dagger.. but the SA's that swords carry and an inbetween patk value...
don't forget the bonus you get from +4 or more
to your SS question, the converted LXB which is taking 10 per shot will be a Cranequin and will consume 6 per shot. Its same with the other Bows/Crossbows. The SS cost of the converted bow is around half(+1) on the D-grade crossbows.
Very smooth
Using CROSSBOW until mid B grade was a little slow. But never bothered using my DUals or a RApier cause i didnt have someone to VR me. So i sticked with my XBOW-mastery.

But now with my Reaper (soul-bow), i just looove the way mobs fall on the ground...
