a thought just struck me Re: a DA doing AOE for exp.
the DA has AOE poison, and Paladin has AOE hate+root.
a combination of Wideblow and longblow would really make duoing Pally+DA a valid AOE tactic. of course these skills require level 58 before the effectiveness really shines.
there are a few DA's in my clan, and a couple (yes more than one) warlords. the warlords are not happy doing what they do and are inactive and have rerolled. i am thinking rerolling Pally (for other purposes) but the human Fighter i have now is doing very well at the AOE even at his low level.
my question is, to any other tank player that does AOE solo or boxed - has mass shackle, or corpse plague made any significant impact on your Poling ? have you duo'd using this method? does it work with just AoePoison from 40-58?
i know using an OL would make the AoERoot issue null, and would make the Pally a far better use of Hate Aura+AoeShield tanking, but i dont have any Live Ol's in clan and my boxed buffslot is taken up with another buffer.
what would limit me besides the mob limit, spawn time, and room availability for solo Pally poling with a bishop box ?
yeah, i know anyone can aoe. and yes, the DA does have aoe hate, but the paladin has shield aegis. pure shield tanking the pally wins for that. i am just wondering how effective 2 tanks are. no pole masteries makes poling harder, no?
I've not tried it with 2 non-pole users, Spud. I can tell you the non-mastery classes will miss some significant portion of the time.
In other words, I would guess this to more an issue of accuracy than patk.
The corpse plague is a mediocre speed cast and does land--it doesn't hit particularly hard. In a large mob group getting the target on the dead one and tripping the skill will take some timing.
I suppose if two tanks poled that as long as they didn't go nuts and pull 3 cata rooms that they would be okay. They can certainly take a beating (thankfully because without shields they aint gonna block nothing and they evade like a brick--which is to say almost never).
I couldn't guess what the relationship to a pole-mastery duo compared to a non-pole mastery duo would be. If I had to guess, I'd say the pole-mastery toons would do better than 50% more damage and do it more quickly.
All that being guessed at, I think the two tanks would do just fine--particularly at lower levels.
I recently put a glaive on a Rogue and partied with a low level dwarf (with a winged spear) in OB--meaning only one had pole masteries, and with no oop support we did 3% per pull and were pulling all aggro from 3 of the camps with regular healpots--neither of us at lvl 35.
Inaccurate weapon, nothing special in DEX for humans, no pole masteries--I'd say they can do okay (but nothing special).
No it's not a problem at all. pole mastery at that lvl adds what 30 to 50 P attack?
Not to mention adding to the number of mobs you could pole.
That is a rather big factor of pole mastery ;P
Anyway, I'd say Paladin for sure. Just get more stuff better suited to Poling later on in life then a DA does. (Especially if you plan on poling in ABG, DVC, etc.)
And who cares about low levels? Useing a pole for AOE in your 60's is not overly efficient without good OOP support. AOE shackle is only handy in keeping mobs rooted and adding a second aoe hate cast to ensure agro controll. Aegis stance goes out the window when your useing a pole, overall id say for a paladin you will level faster with a focus weapon and a prophet than poleing with a DA

classes without pole masterys can only hit 4 mobs (8mobs if pole is sa'd) but should still do fine if u got good support
where did you get that Info?
I was hitting 12 mobs with my Kamael that has no Pole Skills at all using a Pole with SA Critt stun. Just have to force them to be in a line by going between 2 pillars in the catta.

Go take those 12 mobs, do 1 swing, count how many you hit. You wont hit all 12 on a class with no pole skills.
No Mastery + Pole = 4 Targets
No Mastery + Pole + SA = 8 Targets
L8 Pole Mastery + Pole + SA = 13 Targets
L9 Pole Mastery + Pole + SA = 18 Targets
L9 Pole Mastery + Fell Swoop 5 + Pole + SA = 24 Targets
Yep thanks you were right i just thought I was doing some deadly critts on some of the mobs that died sooner. WOW that sucks but your right still better to pole at least for C grade. but i will just pull 4 at a time for now on a class with no mastery. the 4 argos then the 4 non argo. Safer that way also.
Still that sucks with The 4 mob limit what was the point in the VR nerf that hurt Warlord, BH, WS & Destroyers more then anything.
I would AoE with any class, that is if u have the right support. I solely aoe'd on my paladin, and I did fairly well.
40-47 CT1
47-57 GoE lowest floor
57+ some Cats & GC
When things did go wrong I popped a GHP or battle heal from the prophet. Can't recall when I soley xp'ed single target.
To answer Spudnik,
Those skills would not help you at all tbh. I never AoE rooted my trains, and frankly I don't see its use. If you are going to solo/duo aoeing, you are not gonna lose agro anyway. To use Corpse Plague u need to kill a mob in the first place meaning the others will be close to dead also, unless you pull more mobs then u could hit. Even then GL landing a poison that does crappy damage to begin with.
