The spellbooks that are required to learn level 40 through level 74 skills can now be purchased from the following merchant NPCs in newbie towns. (All spellbooks for the skills that you can learn without spending any SP will still need to be acquired from monsters.)
Human classes: Talking Island (Silvia)
Elf classes: Elven Village (Krimis)
Dark Elf classes: Dark Elven Village (Minares)
Orc classes: Orc Village (Wosca)
Dwarf classes: Dwarf Village (Mion)
Kamael classes: Kamael Village (Miflen)
All spellbooks for skills that are level 74 and below now have level requirement information to learn the skill.
This ontop of several rarer sets now being available from NPC its pretty much removed a lot of the collecting aspect for some people (and clans that have been saving up for their members). It also makes a whole range of mobs pretty much useless.
Good thing ONLY IF they replace the drops from mobs with something else or remove them alltogether.
What's the point of getting them from mobs when you can buy them from NPC. Waste of inventory space.
I for one am deleting the entire character that held over 200 spellbooks for me to sell. What's the point of keeping them... And I am far to lazy to sell them one by one to an NPC.
Coming in game with a first character, this is a great thing. When I started I couldn't even buy the books from the bot farmers because I didn't have enough adena for their high prices. Now I've got a warehouse full of books that are useless, unless NCSoft's vendor prices are very high.
It does remove a whole sector of the market though. I just wish game designers would keep the mechanics throughout the life of the game, rather than dumbing it down in an attempt to get more subscribers. This particular aspect makes it tough to gain new skills, but gave a sense of accomplishment if you farmed the book yourself.
If they started the game this way it wouldn't be a big deal. This is the same as adding newbie buffs to level 60. How is level 60, or 40 for that matter, a newbie?
I don't know why anyone would consider this a bad thing for players, unless you enjoy hunting same mob for 5 hours for 1 SB drop or fork 3m for it from random shop in town.

It certainly is a bad thing for all the people that made their living selling off sb drops for bank. Now how do they go about getting that income back?
In my opinion some things should remain during the live-time of a game (from alpha to sun-set).
Ncsoft does not see it that way. Basically you face playing a game which lost it's core as that was the development of the character in all it aspects.

I've made over 100mil from selling spellbooks, mostly selling the level 55 ones for 2m each. THat option is no longer viable.
It removes another form of income leading people to you know what...but oh well, I am happy with the change overall. Less lag in giran, people will actually do something else other than trying to sell a lame spellbook for 250k for 3 days with no luck.
Consider: it is now POINTLESS to go through Cruma Tower at all. for anything. PLB part drops, nerfed. Summoner book drops from 2nd floor, Nerfed. Exp up there pitiful at best, risk is too high for the reward.
cant manor worth a crap up there either.
i am sure the same effect can be seen throughout Frozen Lab, and Ivory tower crater.
I understand this is a very good thing and should have been from the get-go (hunting a mob for forever just looking for your GMight?). But it is a huge stab in the back to people who hunt in those places simply so they can provide the books into the market and sell them.
So while I am for it being part of the game, I'm not a fan it was so suddenly implimented (it has already?) or that it wasn't implimented to begin with.
Edit: 1.65m worth of (NPC VALUE) spelbooks sold. Wow how much would that been worth without this patch. Though, I know I never would have gotten around to selling it all. =P
Please don't forget that this is a Korean patch for a Korean game. It's been said on these forums many times before that nearly all of their player base is end-game. Maybe this part of the update was 100% intended for them, and being as we get what they have (and nothing else) it's just another part of OUR LineageII that is falling apart because our devs can't taylor the game to OUR needs.

esplain me this lucy - if so many of the korean population is end game and the majority of players play from netcafes, or cybercafes HOW IS IT these players have reached this end game without dumping TONS AND TONS of CASH on these cafes sitting there playing 24/7 ?
i suspect these Koreans DONT have more endgamers than we do. i also suspect the end game players that DO exist are just as insulted and harrassed by common lowlevel gamers such as Myself, as any player here in NA.
The NPC in orc town is USKA not WOSKA. Not yelling at you pain XD I couldn't target "woska" either when I went looking for the seller.
So it looks like the Wishing Potion quest, which was the ONLY way to get paagrio's heart is now available for like 8k in a shop.
Really, really terrific move for all of us that liked farming spellbooks either for the money, or just to share with clannies. I now get to shop over 150 books, some of which I spent a good deal of time farming off group mobs.
It should have been this way in the beginning. But since it wasn't, it's a real slap in the face to those of us that enjoyed farming something that didn't have a drop rate of 1/9999999999999.
For a new player this is a good move, a new player who is not being supported by a clan or other methods cannot hope to get 15-20mil just for there 4-52 skill books.
For an older player this is a kick in the teeth in terms of income but I'm sure you can all use your head and find other ways of bringing in the Adena.
Everyone was complaining about high levels getting allot of updates and no help for the lower levels, i think this is a good move by NCSoft to help out the true lower level players in getting those skills which will inturn get them to a higher level and carry on playing.
none ... spellbook hunting has always been a ******ed feature of this game. Especially when they introduce new skills like in c5 and you got to roll new characters if you want to farm them cause they drop from like mid 50s mobs.
Welcome to L2 Light. I guess I'm one of the few who actually enjoys and looks forward to farming spellbooks whenever I make a new toon. I'm a bit saddened by this development.
you look forward to farming spellbooks?????
weird
most of the spellbooks I ve had to farm were for subs ... 2x Bishop subs and yeah I never ever ever looking forward to farming the books, shoot me, I just found it a tedious unecessary process go to ev, hit mobs till you get the right book, then go ivory, then go to some god forsaken place you would never go to unless you had to get that book .. bleh

you all must enjoy wasting time. no wonder you're all still low level noobs. you enjoy farming lvl 44 spellbooks.
No wonder I was able to sell greater battle heal/heal/group heal for 1m each so easy, not to mention greater might/shield (both PP and WC versions) for 4m each before this patch.
If you take 2 minutes to look at what skills you will get and plan ahead you can easily hunt the books/amulets that you need.
btw...the new skills they added last time (C5 or Interlude) is in the NPC shop in Ivory Tower and Rune (always been there)
who knows maybe I will be able to sell the new forgotten scrolls/amulets for 50m each if ppl are so lazy that they don't hunt them theirself...
the ivory npc only sold 4 of the x new c5 spellbooks ... none of the frozen lab ones ... good luck farming frozen lab when you re third class ;)
PS yes I bought gr.heal etc off giran dorfs, I think I paid like 250k each, big freaking deal ... it really is chump change if you re on a sub and dont feel like hitting IT
Spellbooks were a good source of income for some lvl toons looking to make some money at their 'low' level from a need that other players had (too high to farm it themselves or too lazy for example).
L2 is a market based game and I believe the books being sold by NPCs is a mistake and takes away from an aspect of the game I know I enjoy, working hard for something that is of importance to you. If that is not your style and get annoyed at teh farming aspect it was those entrepreneurs that kept the wheel turning.
It sucks that it is done and will not be reversed, that is just my two cents.
Maybe this is the NCSoft way of making the economy more for the dwarves. People selling the spell books didn't have to get them crafted by the dwarves. The dwarves were not getting the fair share of adena from the book sales. So NCSoft saw this and decded that it shouldn't be in the players hands any more because this sector of the market can still function without a dwarf thus weakening the dwarven economic force.
They've taken away our farming of spellbooks, crafting low/mid c grade armor, weapons and jewelry so there's no need to save even a small amount of parts, not to mention the craft shops that run 24/7. Dwarves have NO economic force. We are slowly, but surely, being driven from this game.

Just move on to the higher lvls and keep farming rare stuff there... They made the change so its going to be easier for low lvl people to advance to the higher end game content, they do it to not leave out new players who wants to play the cool stuff.
Due to the harsh demands on xp to reach end game nc is forced to do this to make the trip there as easy as possible.
Why stop there, how about you just log in at level 52 with all skills learned and in B grade gear.
Then we can delete all newbie villages with surrounding lands (after moving the SB sellers to Giran), Delete Gludin (forgotten temple, windy hill, windmill hill, southern wastelands, orc barracks) and then Gludio (RoA, RoD, all of Ants nest and the rest of the wastelands) and Dion (Cruma tower/swamp, EG).
Or better yet, how about level 85 with all boss jewels, s80 armor so everyone can be like this guy (http://www.thenoobcomic.com/index.php?pos=234) since leveling super fast is more important than learning how to play.
plain and simple if you think that being able to buy spell books is a crappy idea then go out and hunt for them. imo it really helped me since its taken me almost a year to get Greater Shield because the drop rate and mob spawn blows on it. people will still sell spellbooks, people will still hunt spellbooks. just the cost of those spell books will drop and there will be no true revenue in it anymore.

I could not have said it better.
What I don't get is that some of the new features are great, but then there are the others that just completely bend the players over and forces them to take it up the xxx.
Ok now that is just ******ed, why would ANYONE farm spellbooks in the 40-74 range when the store sells for for around 10k? Is anyone going to waste their time setting up shop to undercut the NPC?

Good or bad thing?
Lets leave it at necesary evil. While I agree this removes a source of income from those who need it most, aka lowbies, the market for spellbooks at least in my server had died over a year ago and finding a spellbook was getting to be impossible and most of the time you were forced into hunting for them yourself. I wouldnt be oposed to hunting for my SBs if
1) the droprate wasnt as bad as it is for some SBs
2) SBs dropped from mobs that make sense and were roughly of the level where you need to learn the skill
Combine this with the fact that L2 is crippled by the lack of a REAL auction hall systems like say what MOST other even free to play games have, so who in their right mind is going to bother selling SBs in this day and age when you could be selling much more expensive items like say life stones.
Note on hunting spellbooks:
The book for sale are always those from hunting areas where everybody goes. There are too many of them, they don't sell and nobody has problem to get them.
The book I needed were never for sale. I always had to ask friends to help to get them, we knew it was on a stupid no xp spot, but that's what friends are for. For some books, friends gave me one they got some times ago. For other, I asked a botmaster in cata and he dropped dozens of books so I had more than my share. And for 76+ books, since I spend a lot of time on the same spots, I already have some of them.
Special mention of ******ness for Trance, Mana Burn, Mana Storm, Erase and Magical Backfire spellbooks. You'll note that spellbooks for bishops never drop on undeads.
So... what did I buy? Major Heal or Major Group Heal, I don't recall exactly. What did I sell? 2 Greater Shield, 1 Greater Might, as I spent some time xping there (duo with a WS in my early 5X). Those were the only book that had a "market".
But mainly people were getting books by themselves, and I never sold any vortex for example.
It's always been faster to sell to NPC and use shop time for something else more efficient. So, do I regret it? Not at all.
I felt all light-headed when I read this. My main source of income was trading SBs and I have (did have) many millions of Adena's worth on several chars. I even have an account paid solely for SB shops.
This, coupled with C grade in shops tells me that the designers are clearly moving the thrust of the game to higher level chars and are making it as easy as possible for people to reach those levels.
This is madness and ripping the much of the soul of the game away. Well it seems it to me.
This is one unhappy Fierybint :(
Benediction drops from Spiteful Soul groups, which is 1 head mob and 4-5 minions (I cannot remember which). I wouldn't attempt that on my bishop even proper buffed. Not that it matters now, but to take out those groups I use to sleep cloud the bunch because each one required 2 nukes. On a bishop that would probably be at least 3 each. Anyway I digress.
I'm not quite in the same boat of Fiery, because I rarely sold books but I also had quite the collection.
I can't understand why people assume everyone wants to rush to the so called "end game". There's so much to this game to be discovered and explored by new and even some older players.
You learn your trade as a noob in your class and move up to become (hopefully) a stronger and better character. This is all being undermined by moves towards the notion that everyone wants everything in five minutes.
Legend of Mir went the same way. All the low level stuff was made superfluous by making it easy to reach higher levels. Everyone got bored and demanded more and more super items. Then the addiction wained and the desire to play was lost. It's now unable to sustain itself through subscription.
I suppose one consolation is I didn't waste money on overpriced fish proofs for extra recipe slots. I can delete Karmian etc and anything C or lower.

I like to just go explore sometimes. Some pretty places out there. I had a friend a while back, who sadly quit, take me for a trip on the love boat (w/e it's called). Nothing riveting but it was kinda fun and a break from the monotony of grinding. I'm kinda afraid to make 7x cause I don't know what I'll do when I get there. Subbing, perhaps I'm wrong, just seems like starting over w/o 1-40.

I like to just party and have fun killing stuff. Problem is, I either can't find like minded parties, or none at all. No one parties OLs, my clan isn't always on either. Real bummer :( . I'd like to just enjoy the trip, especially if it's gonna be a long one. I can never find people who don't complain about not making enough xp per hour or something. When you're only 4x, xp shouldn't be your only concern, imo. I'm actually 56 now and were I a Glad soloing in a cata I would take an OL just to sleep mobs, doesnt happen though. Actually the biggest problem, in my own experience, is that everyone has their own buffers (feels like everyone anyway). Some even have 2, SE and PP.
I've made and deleted a few toons. I have a 40 BD, 41 Tyrant, 49 WS, 29 spoiler (which I find to be the most boring), 34 Wiz, 56 OL, and 30-ish shaman going WC. I've deleted a couple warriors, SO, and a couple other things. The one class I seem to enjoy the most, is the one that no one parties because they're (insert your reason/s here). Why get a multiplayer game to party by yourself? I suppose when you 2 or 3 box you get to keep all your drops atleast.
Foodstuffs, there is a clan that is just like what you are describing on Erica. I'm sure there are clans on other servers too...if not, look into coming to Erica!

Thank you very much for your reply :) . If not for a few great people I've met, on Bartz, I would have quit a long time ago. They keep me coming back. I would very much like to enjoy the game and I think the one thing, for me, that is harder than anything else in the game is finding people to enjoy it with. I've probably gone 10+ hours straight in awesome parties probably enjoying the company more than the game itself. Sadly some of the best people I've known in game have quit :( . In fact, it's getting to the point where I'm ready to quit as well.
Unfortunately I can't afford a server transfer, I can barely afford to play the game, and even then it's a big maybe. Maybe I'll start something new on Erica and see how it goes...
