Wanted To Say Hello To The Forums - New Player

I am just about reaching my six month spot in playing Lineage 2 and I told myself when my subscription was 1/2 up to create a forum account. So here I am.

I wanted an 'anime' type game to play that wasn't Final Fantasy so after doing 3 trials I finally created a permanent account and began playing Lineage 2. There is something about this game that I like. (Not having a toon that you can strafe right or left took me some getting used to, but I settled in on the click to move option.)

I have 4 servers full of characters and are slowly taking them to level 20 to get their classes which I will take some time to do. My goal was level 20 at six months, and so far about 1/2 of them are almost there.

Looks as if this game is a lifer for me. As in a life-long hobbie. The more I played, the more I liked it. Tabula Rasa didn't do it for me, and neither did any of the other MMO's besides GW, WOW, and COH/COV.

I am still learning the game from scratch but have noticed how very real life it is, following traditional D&D, RPG type rules. I like this very much. Just to let yas know, L2 took me away from Dungeon & Dragons Online.

I also like the graphics though I have had some trouble. My defaults appear to be 'very wide' on the terrain, and 'narrow' on the npcs. When pointed at a town or city I get extreme lag but have already figured out the Alt P key as a temporary boost.

My graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1550 PC at 3.0 Ghz and occassionally get some anamolies flashing going on with white outlines of mountains turning flashing green for a brief second in the distance. It is just enough to be annoying. I already know that most of the lag or trouble that I get is from the shadow optioins or 3.0 pixel shaders and how the current directx and ATI drivers are working with my card. I am staying with the 8.1 ATI drivers as the new ones are just so terrible. (i.e. In the swamps the horrors below the horizon line are completely invisible and will not show.) Other than that, with ground terrain on, the game looks great. I love the style and drawing and hope newer updates will even play on it further.

Since the game is reaching its 4 years I wanted to say congratulations with a game that can go on many years to come. (Still not sure how Guild Wars will work with time and GW2 coming out. Server price vs. income I would guess.)

I do not plan to play AOC or WO and have been looking for an MMO that I can get many years out of on my current PC of 3.0 GHz. I believe this is it. I go for a shelf life of 10 years on a pc, and may even get more out of this current one. This is really my 2nd biggest pc so I still have room for one more. :)

As I have been into computer games now for a good 20 years I am starting to lose interest on upgrading and purchasing new parts and new pcs. So this is where I plan to stop with Lineage 2 being one of my long runners.

Of course that depends on what 'Aion' and 'Star Trek Online' do. Therefore, I will try and keep an open mind. :D

I want to thank NcSoft for putting out such a good hobbie. The style, clarity, and game play are well worth the money that I am paying.

I wish you continued success. Good Luck!

{GlassEye also is on the forum boards of City of Heroes.}

You've got to admit though, that's a lot of characters (28 if I'm reading the post correctly) to be splitting your playtime between! I'll bet he has a really good idea of what classes he likes best. :) I think that's pretty impressive.

Welcome, GlassEye!

He's playing the game his own way and discovering things in his own time. The game is a land of discovery and can take hours just learning a new area. Good for him.
Rushing to some high level in 5 minutes is pointless if you want the real enjoyment of discovery and escapism that Lineage 2 can bring.
Its refreshing that a new player sees the game this way. This is one of the reasons I'm annoyed that the developers seem to assume everyone no longer wants to work through the lower levels.

I'd like to welcome GlassEye to the forum and Lineage 2.
Good luck with the game and continue to play it at your own pace.
I actually envy him a bit. He isn't letting himself get cought up in the grind to end game.

Taking your time leveling, doing quests and creating from the sound of it one of every class so far seems like it would be fun. I would of course get bored eventually but sounds like he is having fun. I would imagine though at this pace it would take 5+ years to get any of those tunes close to end game.
Welcome
Ahh great post, I too am a new player to L2! Yea I hear ya man on everything you say!

:)

Is that so special :) level 20 in six months :) If your comment was about how slow he's leveling and how it took six months :)

No one will beat the slowest levling Orc in all of ELMORE :D
Glad he's enjoyed his last 6 months! And you people just shush and let him lvl the way he wants. After all, look at Splatter and see how much fun he's having!
I hope he snagged one of Sovrath's gift baskets. I hear the pineapples are tasty!
ive offered to help you out splatter, too.

i dont even think youve logged in for 2 months.

this game is a timesink no matter how you slice it. time to level, time to sit and sell, time to farm mats, time to finish quests, time is required to do anything in this game. hellbound, the latest update opens up a 9 stage dungeon that the SERVER as a community needs to open to unlock beleth. the SERVER needs high levels.

if this guy wants to watch whatever toon he plays on _NOT_ take time to compress his levelling to speed it up thats his isue, i dont care. the offer is good forever.

everyone here (with the exception of the OP) knows the game STARTS its highly glossy, polished and smooth feel at a specific level, in specific places, with specific skills.

as much as i love making new toons (and i do love it) i know they wont be what the could be because i havent reached that level plateau i am trying to preach about. as it is, the low level content of the game (levels 1-40) is vanishing at an alarming rate, with each successive update.

splatter: do you know what insanity your tyrant can bring upon a live healer? do you know just how potentially hard you are capable of hitting? do you know the worth of your tyrant in any good pvp group?

i dont want to tell you how to play! i jsut want you to get to the point where you can make that decision!!!!

To be honest, no i don't.... :( And i'll be years from such content

slap! :)

To the OP... if you do decide on a character and it's on Hindemith, let me know and I will help you out. As Tailchaser mentioned... the pineapples are tasty. ;)
Welcome man.
If you really like the pre 20's you will probably love what's to come.
For me it was always a like a ladder. The higher I climbed in levels to more fun it was, untill i discovered that was not the class I really wanted to play :)
And then start over again.
So I guess it's not a bad thing to try out as many classes as possible before you decide for something. But do remember that classes develop incredibly after lvl 40. Before that many of them are very similar.

I actually envy him a bit. He isn't letting himself get cought up in the grind to end game.

Im with Kruken on that I kinda envy him, Yeah i got alot of alts but with my BD it was a mad rush to get to lvl 61 and no time to rest and enjoy things. I will say that I look back at all the class change quests Ive done and i NEVER want to go though those again, but I wish that I had acaully sat back and enjoyed the low lvls a bit more.

Let GlassEye play how he wants to play, good for him that hes taking to the time to enjoy the finer points of being a low lvl.
Being a lowbie is cool.. that's also probably I have so many alts. ;)

Speaking of class change quests...
Here's my small list:
SH to 63 - Deleted it when I left for WOW(Yeah.. stupid)
BD(6x), SE(5x), WS(5x), Bishop(4x), PP(4x), "SH"(2x) and "WC"(2x).. these on Devi. I had some toons on other servers. Most were deleted, as I didn't like the server.

On Luna.. I'm about to start questing to Scavvy and Artisan.
Among other 2nd class change quests. My next goal is make a 3rd class change on my BD.... but this will take time, as I want to lvl my Dwarf till I get A grade crafts, as the market is assuming prohibitive prices... and I refuse to be "scammed".
