I don't mind seeing russian, greek or any other cyrillics in the chat.
It's the same IRL. They speak their native language and you either understand it or you don't. When they want to communicate with someone else, who doesn't understand their native language, they use english. (Or they may wish not to do so)
Let's be realistic to the reason why it got removed as that was due to adena sellers/pl service etc. advertising in foreign languages which is bypassing the filter scripts.
Anyways to stay on topic if you're playing a MMO you should not stick to nationalistic views but use the general common language used by all to communicate aka English but that's just my point of view.
ah and fyi I'm Dutch and used to speak multiple diff languages but Greece & Russian etc. is kind of pushing my skillz..

You can advertise in other languages regardless of unicode or not.

Last time I checked, URLs were still not in unicode. Also last time I was on Teon without unicode, people were able to write in a language I can't understand. Maybe they were advertizing an awful illegal program or selling babies or whatever...
So what's your point about bypassing a useless filter? You actually believe it wasn't done before?
IMO, NC US have broken arms and should let NC EU manage L2.
You can type russian and other languages without unicode too. So they're faced with the same problem regardless..only perhaps in slightly greater numbers because the lazy ones join in.
I don't mind people speaking their own language but when they use it as an excuse to grief, kill steal and practice their namecalling skills, that's when it gets on my nerves!
Saying that I'm pretty sure they'll give you back your languages when the bugs are fixed so just be patient.

This is what people aren't getting, they didn't take away any languages, they only removed the special characters, people can still namecall you, adena sell, grief, etc. in their own languages regardless.
Not having unicode wouldn't stop me from calling you a "taabeligt roevhul"
Actually the only thing not having unicode prevents, is that the GMs would have a harder time using translation tools to approximate what a smacktalker or adena seller is saying
I believe the only reason they reverted was that the automated tools for tracking lazy miscreants could not handle the additional characters.
Suggestion to NCsoft:
Cowboy the "f-word" up and become more creative. You would show you do acknowledge Euro's/Non-US-players as much as the
"natives".
Carry on.

I think people are getting it a little more than you're giving them credit for to be honest. They've been given a lollipop only to have it taken away five minutes later so to speak. I know I wouldn't be happy either.
I just wish they'd just stop one shotting mobs I've taken the time out to spoil and half kill just to take my hard earned adena then shout at me in a wall of text I don't understand when I ask them to stop! There's no excuse for bad manners and time and time again I keep finding that people who don't speak English seem to hold a grudge against those of us that do in game and that's what I meant by my comments earlier. :)
It would be more simple if LINEAGE II was like GUILD WARS :
french servers for french people, spanish server for spanish people etc etc and on which their own language with a chat filter adapted and gms who understand and speak this language.
Of course international servers for those who wanna play with mixed people from everywhere.
The problem are the fees of a such adaptation of the game, including people working in several languages to monitor it and the time it will take to translate each patch.
This decision doesn't own to NC USA but to NC KOREA if one day they really will want to conquer Europe and other countries with Lineage II.
The only true right now is they loose customers who don't speak and read english at all or are discouraged to try L2 due to the english barrier and these ones play other online games in their own languages. That's all.

Right. Japanese online games are losing me as a customer because I don't speak Japanese. Wait... Japanese is not the most common spoken language in the globe, neither is the language people start learning as an asset/ investment for their future carreer/jobs or even to study overseas.
I think people should stop complaining about English. They will have a much harder time to cope with if Chinese ever becomes the new lingua franca of the planet.
